Batman3000 -> Out
Red rimmed Sophie's vision as she blasted Gisela with all she could. Her anger, grief, sadness, misery, everything that she had caused her. Everything that she had caused Keefe.
Sophie was doing this for Keefe. She watched as a red current sliced into Gisela's body, slowly killing her. She was too blinded by her rage to stop.
She could barely hear her friends screaming her name. She only inflicted harder, until the only thing that mattered was destroying Gisela. Gisela's face went a pale white, and her lips turned blue.
"SOPHIE!" He shouted. His voice sounded familiar, but Sophie couldn't figure out who it was. She continued to to inflict on Gisela. Watching as the red tendrils sucked the remaining life out of her. But right as Gisela was almost gone, someone levitated up to her.
Someone with striking ice blue eyes. Eyes that felt like... Home. And all Sophie wanted to do was melt into his arms, even though she didn't even know him.
But, no. She had to finish the job. But she couldn't turn away. Couldn't look away from his Antarctica stare. But even though his eyes were the color of cold ice, they were soft. And kind. And broken.
He drew closer to her, and she stopped inflicting on Gisela. He took her hand, and in a blind rush, she remembered.
And then it was all black.
***
"Sophie, wake up. Please, please wake up. I... Love you. I love you more than you'll ever know. You're perfect, Sophie. And I'm the one who got you in this mess. It's my fault," Sophie felt wet tears fall on her cheeks and she slowly opened her eyes.
"It's not your fault," She whispered. She was on the ground in his arms. And Gisela was passed out looking horrible. Did I do that to her? The battle was still raging on as each of her friends were battling with a Neverseen member.
"Don't even say it was your fault. We'll finish off the Neverseen today, and I'll finally prove to you that NONE of this, was EVER your fault," She said softly, gesturing to the fight.
"I'll stick by your side Foster, until the end," He promised, helping her up. Sophie was a bit dizzy on her feet, but that faded quickly.
"If we die, at least we die together."
Keefe nodded and gave her one more kiss. Sophie kissed him like it was the last kiss she would ever have with him. It was broken and hopeless and lost and sad. But it was perfect. Keefe kissed her like he would never pull away. Sophie pressed her body harder into his, holding him in her arms as he dipped her and kissed her deeply.
She never wanted it to end. But it had to. So she pulled away.
"I love you," She whispered.
"I love you more than you'll ever know," Keefe whispered back. And she watched as he ran to take down another unknown Neverseen member. That just left Sophie with... Vespera.
"How funny. Little Moonlark is looking for a fight."
Sophie lunged for Vespera, hitting her with all she had.
Sophie was too weak to inflict right now, but she still had her other abilities. Channeling her outward energy, Sophie slammed Vespera into a tree. And threw a couple of goblin throwing stars at her sides.
Vespera wiped the blood from her mouth, and dodged the throwing stars easily.
Her spear zoomed past Sophie, but she easily caught in the air with Telekinesis, and threw it back at her with all her force. It barely nicked Vespera.
She levitated again, and Vespera did the same. Vespera threw a punch at Sophie's face but she dodged. And it went like that until Sophie was tired and exhausted.
Her friends below her weren't doing so well either. They were all either barely hanging on, or they were already captured and being tortured to death. And Sophie was starting to lose hope that they would even be able to win this war. What had they gotten themselves into? She couldn't lose them. And all she wanted to do was scream, 'WE SURRENDER!' And burst into tears.
But then she remembered something Calla told her a long time ago, "All it takes is one to stand when others fall."
She would be that one to stand. Even when her friends had fallen. She relied on them. Needed them. And where was she when they needed her? Where was she when Keefe needed her? She was right here. She was going to be the one the stand, when everyone else fell.
She felt a piercing anger grow inside of her.
"You took away my family," She whispered.
"What was that?" Vespera taunted.
"You took away my friends," Sophie said again, louder.
"My parents, my home, my sleep, my happiness," She paused, "But there's something you WILL NEVER. EVER. Take away from me. Something that no matter how much you try, it won't disappear. I don't care if it sounds stupid," Sophie saw the red rim her vision. But she needed to say this one last thing. One last thing before it was all over, "You can't ever take away love."
Now. She transmitted to her friends. She had Dex and Tinker build a gadget that would protect her friends from the inflicting, small enough that the Neverseen wouldn't notice. She had built it after Keefe saved her from being taken by the Neverseen.
The shocking reality finally hit her. Keefe. Keefe wouldn't have one. Keefe didn't have one. He would... He could... He... But she couldn't stop her anger from taking her away, let it turn into all the pain that the Neverseen had caused her.
NO! STOP! KEEFE! HE'S NOT SAFE! HE'S... Her vision blurred and turned completely red, and she forgot who was good and who was evil. Forgot about everything. But she didn't care.
The only she she needed to do was destroy. So that's what she did.
She screamed into the night sky, and released every single terrible emotion she had ever felt, tears ran down her cheeks as red explosions destroyed everything it's path. She was numbed by her power. She could barely breathe. Suddenly it released it's hold of her and in seconds her vision had gone black.
***
"Sophie, wake up," She could feel someone shaking her awake. Her eyes opened softly and she glanced around. The Neverseen lay lifeless on the ground, and the council had already come to see if any of the Neverseen members were still alive.
Biana was shaking her awake, and all her friends were all huddled around her. All of them except one.
"Keefe," She whispered, "Where's Keefe?!" She demanded, sitting up quickly and scanning the pastures, dark from the night's shadows.
She could see her friend's eyes well up with tears, and Linh pointed to a lifeless body, hidden in the shadows. Sophie raced to it. Elwin was already giving him CPR, and shoving elixir after elixir down his throat.
Tears pooled down her cheeks as she collapsed next to him. His limbs were all disfigured and bloody. And he wasn't breathing.
"Keefe," She said softly, "Everything will be fine, I promise."
"I'm doing everything I can, Sophie," Elwin said panicking, "But he isn't responding to anything."
"I'm going into his mind," Sophie sobbed.
"I-I'm not even going to try and stop you. Just please be careful, he's still so fragile."
Sophie nodded and with out another hesitation, plunged into his mind.
***
It was empty. And quiet. Actually, it was silent. There wasn't a thought in his head. A feeling of overwhelming peace washed over Sophie. And she didn't want to leave. She wanted to stay here, in his lost mind forever. Just a couple minutes longer, and all the pain and worry she was feeling would just melt away. She would just melt away.
But her world didn't matter without Keefe in it, so she plunged deeper, into the darkest part of his mind. There wasn't a single light. Nothing. His mind was empty and blank. His mind was gone.
What have I done?
But then she saw it. A flicker of light, just up ahead. Sophie raced towards it as fast as she could, finally she reached it. And she saw Keefe. He was radiating a golden yellow glow. And he looked so happy. So at peace.
"Keefe?" She whispered, tears filling her eyes.
"Sophie? You're here? I thought I would be on my own. It's great to see you! I've really missed you!" He raced towards to and picked her up, spinning her around.
"Keefe! I've missed you so much it hurts," Sophie whispered.
"Me too, Sophie," He said softly, pressing his lips into hers. Their kiss felt different. While Sophie was kissing him with all her pain, love, and hardships, Keefe's kiss felt unbroken. It felt strong, and powerful and happy. It was light and loving and fun.
He was happy. After all these years he was finally happy.
"You're so happy now," Sophie whispered once they finally pulled away.
"It's really so nice here. But I haven't left just yet. It's even nicer where I'm supposed to go," He winked at her, and gave her such a genuine, happy smile it left her melting.
"Where are you supposed to go?" She asked.
"Into that bright light! I've been here, waiting for someone. I didn't know who until you showed up. And then I remembered that I was in love with you, Sophie! Now we can go through the light together. And we can be happy," He smiled. His child like innocence had returned to him. And Sophie wanted him to be this happy forever. She wanted be this happy forever. But something was stopping her from stepping into the light with him.
"You called me Sophie," She realized.
"That is your name... Right?" He looked confused.
"Well, yes, but..." She trailed off.
"Okay," He shrugged, laughing. Then he grabbed her hand to pull her in but she stopped.
"They're waiting for me. For you. For us."
"Who?" He asked.
"Our friends. Dex, Fitz, Biana, Tam, Linh, Marella, Wylie, Maruca. Even Stina. Elwin, Mr. Forkle, my parents. They need us Keefe. I need you. Please don't leave me. Please come back with me."
"Back to the sad world? Why would I want to go back there?"
"Because..." She paused, "Because of love. We all love you Keefe. I love you. And you are my number one priority." His eyes shown with the light of a thousand stars and everything just clicked into place.
"And you are mine...Foster."
They grabbed each other hands, and they left his mind.
3 months later...
The Neverseen members were mostly all gone. And there was a huge Wanderling planting for all of them. Vespera was still alive, and she was locked away in Exlie. But Gisela was... Gisela was Gone. Sometimes Sophie still had nightmares about killing all those people, even though they probably deserved it. But luckily Keefe was always there to cheer her up when she was sad.
The planting was heartbreaking for him, he lost his mother. And it was all because of her. She barely slept a wink for at least a month, terrified that Keefe would hate her, or that Gisela would come back to finish the job and kill him. Or her.
But he swore he would never hate her. And Gisela was already dead.
Her nightmares slowly disappeared, eventually only returning to haunt her a couple times. But Keefe's would happen almost every night. He'd wake up screaming her name, begging her to be alive. And then he'd stay awake the whole night, petrified that he would lose her. Sophie only knew this because she had to forcibly enter his mind, or else he would just swear that nothing was wrong.
Sometimes he would call her in the dead of night, wet tear marks on his beautiful face. And Sophie would ignore his protests and leap straight to the Shores of Solace, holding him in her arms until he fell back to sleep.
She finally reached the door to Keefe's house and knocked. She waited for the door to open by Lord Cassius, but was surprised to find Keefe standing there instead. His hair was styled to perfection and his clothes were slightly wrinkled as always.
He pulled her in for a quick kiss on the lips. Short but sweet, and then pulled away.
"Thanks for coming over to help me with my homework," He thanked her.
"Anytime, Keefe," She laughed, "By the way, Biana told me to tell you that's she's planning this HUGE party or something in honor of us defeating the Neverseen."
"Nice, I'll be there."
"When is your homework due?" Sophie asked slyly.
"I don't know? A month ago? Why?" Keefe questioned.
"Because... TAG! YOUR IT!" She shouted, running out of the house and onto the white beach.
"Oh it's SO ON!" Keefe yelled from the house. Sophie quickly pulled off her shoes and socks, and then jumped into the warm water.
"But my hair!" Keefe whined, looking at Sophie swimming happily in the water.
"I think your hair looks cute unstyled," Sophie smiled.
He considered it for a second, "Nah. But you're really cute when you think you're gonna win," He smirked. Taking off his shoes and socks quickly and diving into the water.
Sophie screamed loudly and tried to swim away as quickly as possible. But Keefe was such a good swimmer! He caught up with her in no time.
"You never told me you were such a good swimmer!" She said breathlessly.
"I've had a lot of free time recently, I guess?" He laughed, "Oh, and hold your breath."
"Why-" Sophie barely had time to take a deep breath before Keefe dunked her underwater and pulled her in for a long kiss. Kissing Keefe underwater was salty, and she could taste the ocean water on his lips. But other than that, she kind of liked it.
"I can't believe you just dunked me!" She tried to be angry, but she was having to much fun to even try and wipe the smile from her face.
"You loved it," Keefe smirked, swimming close enough to her that their lips were almost touching.
"Yes. Yes I did."
"Hey, Sophie?"
"Yes, Keefe?"
"You are my number one priority," He whispered, tucking a stand of her blonde hair behind her ear.
"And you are mine," She said softly. Then she dunked him down for another salty underwater kiss.
