Chapter Nine: Rock Solid
Keith's POV:
It was hard reliving everything that I had to hide; things that no one knew, things Shiro didn't even know. It tested my sanity.
But it was even harder for me to wake up and realize my dream was just a warning for my future...
More signs would come, but I would be too blind to see them for what they were until it was too late.
And maybe I should've done something different, but there was no turning back from the fear that had started to possess me. And fear is force that can take anyone over.

Lance's POV:
"AGHHHHHHHhhh!!!", I yelped bolting up right as my vision had gone scarlet red.
My heart was beating a hundred miles an hour as I looked up at the clock and saw it was still the middle of the night.
Only 2:13 am.
Which totally put a damper in my beauty sleep schedule...
But after that... nightmare though, I couldn't go back to sleep.
I was too wide awake. Wide awake and scared to be more precise.
I tried to calm myself down as I reminded myself it was all a very bad and vivid dream.
I shivered slightly as I sat there under my cerulean sheets and looked at the soft glow of my spa diffuser.
I felt like I had been IN that dream though. Like everything that had just happened in it was for real... real REAL.
My room suddenly felt way to calm, silent and dark as my vision flashed back to the blood covered hands.
I pulled on my nightrobe and blue lion slippers and opened the door, peeking out to make sure no one was awake. I needed to get some air.
The air was still and quiet as I made my way out carefully and made my way down the hall, my slippers gently squishing underneath my feet.
As I tiptoed my way down I saw Keith's door wide open, the covers thrown to the floor as if he had been in a rush.
Where the quiznack was that mullet?, I thought sleepily for a second before shaking myself awake more from concern.
Pulling in the robe closer to me, I quickly checked each room rapidly, concerned for Keith.
What was he thinking walking around when he just escaped death itself?
I finally came to the last room I hadn't checked, I didn't check the other bedrooms cuz I doubted Keith would go in them, and only saw the empty chairs and platform.
Walking in, I looked around and checked under the desk which held all the controls for the castle. Unknown buttons blinked at me gently, testing my impulse to try and press it but I stuffed it down.
The last thing I needed was to accidentally blow up the castle or throw out a beacon that'd bring the whole Galra army on us.
I stuck my head under the desk just to make sure, going for anything at this point.
Nope. He wasn't under there.
I crossed my arms and tapped my foot impatiently, my eyes darting around the empty room.
Where the heck was he?!
My eye then caught a blinking button reading that the outside hatch door had been opened.
I immediately knew where to go after that, running to the door and poking my head out, looking for Keith.
The castle of lions rose above me as I ran into the powdery dirt landscape of the planet we landed on a day ago. The air was stagnant and smelled faintly of leather and green clouds rolled overhead.
I knew no other planet was like Earth, but I still couldn't get over the fact that I could breathe on planets that had these weird conditions. It just didn't seem right in the back of my mind.
I missed Earth... and my family back at home. But I knew I had to stay and fight a war I never asked to fight, because if I didn't, the Galra would destroy everything and everyone I loved.
And they had almost taken Keith away from me. Death had been so close and practically had taken him.
My fist curled up just thinking about how the Druid had tortured him and contacted us on the screen, enjoying our pained faces.
Keith had looked scared... and that broke me seeing him like that. But when I found him...
I couldn't even let myself think about that again right now.
What mattered was that he wasn't dead.
Keith has survived.
He was alive somehow despite all the odds. Miraculously and wonderfully breathing.
Which is why I had to find him and get him back to bed, I thought desperately as I ran toward a giant boulder, before he accidentally collapsed a lung or something.
"Keith! Keith you over here?", I called climbing onto the rock and peering over it on the other side.
Disappointingly, he was not there. I groaned in frustration and was about to slide off the rock as it suddenly moved, rising into the air swiftly and rapidly.
I was 45 feet up in the air before I knew what was happening, clinging onto the moving surface as I screamed in surprise.
"WHAT THE QUIZNACK!!", I yelped as the ground grew further away from me and my hold started to loosen.
I clung on for dear life, my robe billowing around me as I lost one of my slippers to the distant earth below, "Awww crud, you made me lose my slipper you dumb rock!", I complained as the giant boulder creature grumbled and started to walk.
My world shook violently as I screamed and clung on tighter, my fingers screaming from the tight grip, "I take it back, I take it back!! Nice rock, NICE ROCK!!!"
It took every inch of strength for me to hang on as I was jostled up and down abruptly as I screamed and hollered for help while trying to remain on good teen with the thing.
What had I been thinking?
I was getting carried away by a rock and I had lost one my super comfortable one of a kind blue lion slippers!!
What was I supposed to do now?!
I looked back at the castle and watched it shrink slowly but surely, my chances of backup decreasing by every step of the creature.
"Uhhhh, hey you! Rock guy!! Can I call you Rocky?", I called out, "I'm kinda stuck on you, and I'd really appreciate if you'd stop?? Like I'd really REALLY appreciate it!!", I screamed as it jumped over a ravine, "DON'T DO IT ROCKYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!"
The sudden movement from the boulder creature was too much on my hands, and I found myself falling off into the very space it had cleared.
Wind whistled around me as gravity took its hold on me and pulled me to the ground far below, ending most likely for a very painful death for me.
Was I really going to die over something like that?! Falling off a rock?
Even Keith wouldn't believe I had died over something so stupid if they ever found my body and my ghost were able to tell them the story.
I tried to think as the first few seconds of my descent started, my brain jumping from one subject to the other faster then lightning.
Just then my ears caught a harsh blast of something, before a flash of red suddenly slammed into me.
The air got knocked out of me as I got slammed in the gut and a second later onto the hard ground on the other side of the ravine.
I could barely breathe as I was dropped into my knees coughing as my heart beat rapidly.
What the heck just happened?!
"Oh my god Lance... are you trying to kill yourself or something?! Why would you be riding that thing?", Keith's incredulous and annoyed voice asked.
Keith.
I felt a sudden sense of comfort and relief as I heard his voice wash over me, but it was immediately replaced with anger and annoyance.
I whirled around, my vision having colorful spots as I glared at him.
"I-I'm the one trying t-to kill m-myself?!", I wheezed angrily, "Really?! You're the one w-who died only two days ago!! You shouldn't be running around out here after everything you've gone through!! Don't talk to me about doing something stupid! Don't even... and, and.., you thought I WANTED to ride that thing?! I was looking for you, you quiznacking idiot!!", I yelled grabbing his shirt.
Tears were now coming down my face as I stared into his, several emotions rolling through me as I stared at his stupid and bewildered face.
He didn't understand how much I actually cared about him...
Heck, I didn't even understand it!! Which made things so much more complicated as I grasped his collar and was glaring, crying and wanting to hug him all at the same time.
"Lance, get a hold of yourself! I'm fine!", he protested trying to get himself free from my grasp, "Seriously... you really didn't have to come out here like this."
"Yeah, I did mullet. You FUCKING DIED!! Have you forgotten that teensy weensy little fact?!", I yelled gaining control of my breathing for the most part now. I was sitting upright now, one knee up as I shook his shirt aggressively, "Well have you, huh?!
Do you think this is some game or something?! Give Lance a heart attack? Give the whole team a stroke!? 'Cause I guarantee you're on the right track with the stupid decisions you've been making!!
Can't you just stop being such a selfish hero for once and think about yourself? Think about your own health here?!"
"L-Lance..."
"Don't you Lance me mullet!!", I interrupted, "You're an idiot through and through!! And your stupid I'm-so-tough-act is about to get on my last hecking nerve!!
So just stop!! Stop before you kill your self again and hurt everyone else in the process!"
I then let go of his shirt harshly, throwing him back a little as I stood up and fixed my bathrobe, mumbling under my breath.
Keith's eyes never left me as I stalked over to the hoverbike he had just used to save my life, opening the side panel and bringing out a bottle of water.
He hesitated, rubbing the collar of his shirt awkwardly, "I'm sorry... I.. I didn't know. I didn't think anyone would freak out if I decided to take a ride, I just couldn't sleep.
I didn't mean to worry you Lance."
I crossed my arms, "Well you did. And you made me lose both of my blue lion slippers!", I said grumpily pointing to my bare feet.
Keith sighed and shook his head, "You really weren't kidding huh when you told us you need your beauty sleep."
"What's that supposed to mean?!"
"Let's just head back.", he said ignoring my question and climbing onto the bike, "That's what you wanted, isn't it?"
I stared back at him, as his hair gently blew against his face as the backdrop of stars and green clouds rolled behind him.
"Yeah, it is I guess...", I said reluctantly climbing behind him.
(For those who aren't American, I'm sorry... but here using feet is easier then meters in my opinion... 😅)
Glad to still have you reading!
