𝐍𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 ╰┈➤Percy Jackson

Y/N was just enjoying their live at Camp Half-Blood as much as a demigod could. They had friends, siblings, were a skilled fighter and generally easy to get along with. Everything was going so, so well. Unfortunately, nothing good ever lasts forever.

One rainy night, Grover brought a new demigod that made a grand entrance with having killed the minotaur.

Percy Jackson was his name.

A name that always made anger bubble inside Y/N's stomach and E/C eyes narrow in irritation.

They don't know why, for the gods' sake, but for some reason the moment they shook hands and their eyes met, they just seemed to have made a silent agreement they would never work with each other. That no matter what, they would never get along.

Even now, years later, their behaviour and antics towards one another haven't changed.

Percy thought Y/N was too stubborn and serious, and that it was unfair they could best him in things like archery or the fact that they seemed to have so much authority with how long they've been at camp. In a way, they were Chiron's second-in-command and he didn't like that either.

Whilst Y/N found that the son of Poseidon was egoccentric, arrogant even, keeping up his title as Hero of Olympus a little too proudly. Not that he bragged, but he didn't have to use it as an excuse whenever he didn't feel like doing his chores. They honestly don't get why everyone seems to be so starstruck with him.

He was... simply a nuisance.

Especially with how he was jumping around and annoying them.

So you can imagine it felt like a kick to the stomach to Y/N when they were sent to go on a quest with him.

Both demigods practically begged Chiron to give them a different companion, but the old centaur silenced them with one stern look.

Currently the pair was walking down the streets of Manhattan, on their way to the bus stop to get to their quest's destination. Not one word is exchanged, but they both wanted it like that. The atmosphere is more tense rather than awkward.

Percy kept glancing at Y/N suspiciously, his hands stuffed in his pockets. He couldn't believe he was stuck on a quest with a person he barely tolerated. Literally what was going on in Chiron's mind when he put these two together? And why isn't there a third person? He wished Grover or Annabeth were here so he could at least talk to someone.

Well, he did think about breaking the ice and trying to make conversation. Y/N might dislike him- which he returned- but could they really not at least talk?

Probably not. It might just end up in one of them saying something nasty and worsening their situation. Besides, he didn't want to give them the satisfaction of thinking he wanted to be friendly with them.

Everything about Y/N seemed to irritate Percy. The way they walked, keeping a hand on their backpack, the way their E/C eyes were fixed straight ahead, the way they ignored him completely...

This was going to be a loooong quest...

---------------

Long story short, Percy and Y/N somehow ended up in a sewer because they thought they'd find something. They did find something, though it wasn't what they had hoped.

Griffins.

Three of them. Y/N was sure they read about them somewhere and how to defeat them the easy way, but in the end they could simply be killed like every next monster.

Percy though, was less concerned. Not at all, in fact. He had a bright grin on his face all along, as if the thought of a good fight was enticing. Rambling about some random nerd movie he and his stepfather Paul had watched and fanboyed over. Y/N scowled.

"More fighting, less talking."

"Geez, relax. Can't you see I'm fine?"

"Gods, can you just shut up for a moment?" They snap. "How can you be so calm? You always think you're better than everyone, you're not!"

"And you need to accept that you need help."

"I don't! I don't need your stupid comments nor your assistance-"

"Oh I'm sorry, I should've known you'd want to do everything by yourself, Bossy." Percy turned to glare at them for just a split second.

And that was his mistake.

The griffin's eyes seemed to glitter cruelly, as if saying 'haha, loser'. It raises a claw, and in a flash, rakes it across Percy's shoulder, sending him flying against the wall.

"PERCY!-"

He doesn't say anything in response, but only groans, clutching his arm and squinting his eyes. At least he's still concious.

Y/N does the best to finish off the rest of the griffins as quickly as possible, already beheading the one they fought previously and turning to the next. The creaure charges at them, and they simply dodge, cutting one of its claws. It hisses, trying to throw the child of G/P off their feet with a wing, which ends up successful. Though, as it goes to swipe again, they roll away and knock the monster off of them.

A final stab, and the monster evaporated into gold dust. They wiped their brow, panting, and turned to check on the son of Poseidon. "You okay, clownfish? These griffins were no easy stuff."

"Well, I think I could've beaten them faster if I didn't have a little slip-up." Percy said, the subtly smug look on his face making him seem even more slappable now.

Y/N decided to not start an argument, as they only rolled their eyes.

---------------

The child of G/P shuts the hotel room door behind them, sighing out in exhaustation. Percy stumbles to collapse on his bed. Suprisingly none of the mortals questioned his ripped sleeve that was soaked with blood.

Y/N leans against the door, looking up at the ceiling. Then, they get up and walk over to

"C'mon. We gotta treat your wounds, you're getting blood all over the bed."

Percy's too tired to protest and makes room for Y/N to sit next to him. They get out a medical kit from their backpack and begin to disinfect his shoulder, which was hard because it was already bruising.

It was silent.

But then Percy blurted a question they didn't think he'd ask.

"Why do you hate me?"

Y/N blinked. "...I could ask you the same." They said slowly. For some awkward heartbeats, the two just stared at the other.

"But... To answer you question, I don't hate you... that much. I just think you're pretty arrogant is all."

Percy tilted his head a little. "And I thought you were too uptight and an overachiever."

That suprised Y/N, for some reason. "I just wanted to be the best. Want to be the best. And I didn't like that you always pretended like you were. Or that people genuinely thought that. I... didn't want anything to get in my way of glory."

"And I did get in the way of that." Percy mumbled. "I'll admit, I didn't excactly hate those traits of yours from the beginning. I guess you wanting to be a leader didn't go well with me taking everything so easily and being in the unwanted spotlight, I used to dislike Annabeth because of her attitude too."

Silence.

"Oh gods, we're both such idiots."

Y/N sucked in a breath. "So... I guess we're not enemies anymore. We're cool."

Percy gasped suddenly. "Oh my gods." He fanned his face with his hands, blinking his eyes furiously. "My mascara's running. I'm getting em-ocean-al."

Y/N frowned. "The bad puns were another reason."

"Hey!"

They both laughed at that.

Okay, maybe Percy wasn't that bad.
