「Beyond the generalizations」

"Just because one person
killed another doesn't mean
everyone is a killer"

I - The most common

People are used to generalizing quite a lot of things; Everyone does it, I sometimes do too.

But, there's a limit to it, there's a limit no one should cross, no matter what. Why? Because it's stupid and completely ignorant toward everyone.

We all hear countless of generalizations, and in my case, the most common ones I heard, are three:

- All men are the same.

- This food sucks.

- All venezuelans are bad.

Which is stupid, because it's proven none of those are true.

I can understand the reason behind those words, but I just can't find a way to justify it, at all.

II - The portrait

As a matter of fact, all of this is usually simply shrugged off by those who hear it or say it.

People don't tend to think much about this, it's simply something that happens and is pretty much accepted in society.

III - What's wrong with it?

So, I live in a country that has had quite harsh changes ever since venezuelans migrated, but to say every venezuelan is bad is just straight up stupid.

Now, moving onto the famous phrase, "All men are the same," now, first of all, that's a straight up lie, because we all know they mean it as if they are bad people when it's not true at all.

Can I prove it? Yes. For one, babies exist, babies are born every day, yet because they're men, they're going to be discriminated when they're older, just because they were born as men?

I know a lot of people don't mean it in that way, but I also think they should take care of their words.

Now, moving onto the question, "What's wrong with it?" Well, I could say, from my point of view, that it is quite like discrimination.

Because you're giving a certain image to certain people, just because of where they come from, how they look, etc.

IV - Can it be understood?

Yes. Yes, it can be understood, I can understand that some people have gone through bad experiences, or have heard of bad experiences.

I can understand it, I know that people feel fear and are affected by past experiences, which in some cases, are traumas, and pretty bad traumas.

So, yes... I can understand why some generalizations are made.

V - Can it be justified?

As said before, I can understand the reason behind all those words, but I just can't find a way to justify it, at all.

The countless of times I heard the phrase, "This food sucks," without fundament is sickening. Why? Because we certainly can't say that just because we don't like certain dish.

VI - A little note

I've been trying to be more conscious of my words in terms of generalitazions ever since I realized the stupidity behind all of those words.

And I really wish much more people did it, because it's something that feels wrong, when history itself shows what generalizations did to people, and how much it hurt tons.

So, yeah. Let's try to make this a better world to live in. ^-^
