happy thanksgiving?

Thanksgiving. It was already here. Everyone was leaving for break, and you were excited to go home. You wanted to invite Connie back home for Thanksgiving, but you knew he had his own family to return to. The Braus's would be expecting him, besides, you didn't know if it was too early to bring a boy back home anyway.

This last week before break had seemed to wrap up pretty neatly as you got good grades on your exams and assignments, a whopping A-minus for your photography project. You were proud, since the whole thing had nearly taken up all your time.

You smiled as you sat in the park on a blanket, watching the boys play football in the frosty November air. It made you think of back home when your dad and little brother would play catch in the backyard, always finding a way to reel you in. You weren't all that great at it, but it was still something fun to do.

Going home made you excited, the anxious feeling to be back in your room nearly overwhelming. You couldn't wait to lie in your own bed and use your own private bathroom again. As much as you wanted to be there today, you were heading back tomorrow since you were going out with your friends for a little friendsgiving before the actual holiday.

"Y/N! Wanna play?" Jean called out to you, waving the football in the air.

He looked at you expectantly and you weren't doing anything better, so you got to your feet and went over to join them.

"Who's team am I on?" You asked, narrowing your vision.

"Mine," Armin gave you a lopsided grin, pulling you to his side with Eren.

"Ah, so you guys just needed a third player?" You smirked and Eren shrugged, giving you a small smile as pointed you to your spot.

"Ready?" Jean set the ball down on the ground as everyone got situated. He yelled "HIKE!" and threw the ball back towards Marco.

The game was in motion as the six of you ran around, weaving past one another and tackling. At one point you were tossed the ball. Gripping it to your chest, you ran for the other side, Connie right behind you. You remembered this all too well and hoped he learned his lesson the last time he tried to reach for you.

"Touchdown!" You cried out victoriously as you held the football above your head, Eren and Armin cheering you on.

"I almost had you," Connie breathed out, his chest heaving as he swiped the football away from you.

"Sure, old man," you insulted, his jaw dropping as you let out a laugh.

"Rude. You're gonna pay for that," Connie let go of the football and tackled you, pulling you down to the ground as you let out fake cries for help.

"Cornelius, can we please finish this game first?" Jean placed his hands on his hips and you twisted your body around, now having him pinned to the ground as you gave him a wicked grin.

"Cornelius...?" You gawked and let out a small giggle as he shoved you off.

"Nobody calls me that and you know it!" Connie grumbled to Jean, getting to his feet and grabbing the football.

"Anything to get your head back in the game," Jean defended himself, but Connie only rolled his eyes, placing the football under his arm and extending his hand out to you, pulling you back up.

"You know I'm only calling you Cornelius from here on out," you pointed out and Connie gave you a deadpan stare.

"Okay, okay! I won't say it, I promise," you gave him a mischievous look and a quick peck on the cheek, patting his chest in a playful manner as you raced back over to your teammates.

"Now! Let's finish this ga-" you stopped talking as you saw someone watching you. Someone who looked an awful lot like Floch.

The boys seemed to notice your sudden change, all following your gaze. You saw Connie's jaw clench, his brows furrowing as his honey eyes darkened.

What was he doing? Stalking you now? You tucked some hair behind your ear and took a couple steps forward before Connie grabbed your hand, forcing you to look over your shoulder at him.

"It's fine. Let me handle this," you gave his hand a reassuring squeeze and continued over to Floch, your heart beating.

"Hey," he flicked his chin upward, crossing his arms. You flashed an unenthusiastic smile his way before stuffing your hands into your back pockets.

"Why are you here?"

"Straight to the point, I see."

"Floch. Don't play around with me."

His red, messy hair blew in the wind and over his eyes, his brown stare sending chills down your spine. You hated those brown eyes.

"Well after you slapped me, I didn't really get much room to talk," he bent towards you, but you stepped back. He chuckled at that a little, shaking his head a bit.

"You're scared?"

"I wonder why."

Floch bit his lip, his arms dropping down to his sides, his hands clenching into fists. He caught you staring at them and immediately opened his hands, stuffing them into his pockets.

"Y/N, I didn't come here to fight," he seemed to sound genuine about that, but you were still on edge. Floch had always been so hot and cold. One minute he was sweet, the next he was a raging madman.

"Last night, I was at that party because I knew you would be there. I miss you. And I know I wasn't the best boyfriend, and I wanted to apologize for that," you scoffed at that and Floch froze.

He was quiet for a while as you started to laugh, bringing your hands up to your face as you couldn't believe what he was doing right now.

"Did I say something wrong?" Floch sounded confused, his brown eyes searching your face.

"Oh my God, Floch! It just never ends with you, does it? Bad boyfriend? Apologizing? Like I haven't heard this before. You treated me like shit. And now you don't have anyone to boss around anymore and to control like some estranged psycho, and it's killing you, isn't it? You didn't love me Floch. You never did. You were obsessed with me— the idea of being in a relationship with me. That's not love. I was just an object to you, and you know it. God, why are you doing this to me? Why are you back here? Are you just addicted to hurting me? To making my entire existence a living hell?" Your voice was strained with so much anger it was shaking. Floch stared silently at you, awkward and small.

"I never wanted to hurt you. I'm different, I've changed," he expressed, but you just rolled your eyes, tired of this.

"But you did, Floch. And now I finally have something good here and you can't stand the idea of me being happy."

"I just thought—"

"You thought what? What Floch? What did you think would happen? That I would suddenly realize I loved being in a toxic relationship with you and that you're the only one for me? Grow up Floch! You're a child for thinking that. Now please, leave," you blinked your eyes, feeling the tears brimming your eyes. But you wouldn't cry. He didn't deserve any more of your tears or time. He wasn't worth it.

"Y/N..."

"Leave!" You suddenly shoved at his chest, pushing him back. In an instant you pulled yourself back, your eyes widening as Floch stared at you with wide eyes.

You didn't know what was going to happen next. You didn't mean to shove him, you were just so upset it was like your body reacted for you. There was an uneasy feeling between the two of you, but before either one of you could say something, Connie suddenly came up beside you and intertwined his hand with yours, standing in front of you a bit.

"I think she said to leave, bud," Connie gave him a tight-lipped smile, the tension between the two boys so strong it could be cut by a knife.

Floch didn't say anything else as he flicked his hard gaze to you one more time before turning around and leaving the park.

"Bye! Have a good day!" Connie waved after him, and you knew what he was doing. You didn't find it funny.

You let go of Connie's hand and walked past the other boys, heading over to your blanket and picking it up, shaking it out. Just as you started to fold it, Connie came up to you and stopped you.

"Are you okay?" He asked, trying to find your gaze as you averted it.

"Look, this Floch thing isn't going to get any easier. And you antagonizing him like we're what, 12, isn't going to make this any better, either," you stressed, going back to the blanket and folding it up, hugging it to your chest.

"I'm just worried about you. I don't like that guy," he pointed off in the direction where Floch had been standing.

"You think I don't like him either?" You snapped your head up and Connie's lips pinched together, his expression rigid.

"That's not what I meant, and you know it," he tilted his head a bit, his honey eyes not so warm anymore.

What am I doing?

You shook your head and bit your lip, disappointed you couldn't even control your emotions right now. You weren't mad at Connie, you were mad at Floch. And Connie was getting the brunt of your anger.

"Connie, I'm sorry. I just...I'm—" you started to choke up and tried to fight the tears.

"God!" You blinked and let out a hard laugh, turning away from Connie and trying to get control over yourself.

"Come on," Connie went and hugged you from behind, resting his head on your shoulder as you leaned into him, letting his warmth comfort you yet again.

"Let's go back to my place and just...relax, okay?"

"Okay," you half-smiled as he kissed your cheek and let you go, racing back over to the guys.

You still felt uneasy, as Floch was here for a reason. To get you back, and he wouldn't give up for anything.

─────────────────

You were sitting on the couch at Eren's house with Sasha, watching the boys play a game of poker around the coffee table as Niccolo worked in the kitchen. He was adamant on doing everything by himself, but you figured you'd go and check on him soon.

"I think Marco's going to win," Sasha whispered to you, her gaze bright as she eagerly watched the boys.

"I don't doubt it," you whispered back and stood up, heading over to the kitchen to meet a very stressed out Niccolo.

"How's it going in here? Burn anything yet?" You waggled your eyebrows and Niccolo laughed flatly at that, shoving a bowl of a brown looking batter into your arms.

"Keep mixing that and then pour it into the cake pan," he ordered, going back over to the cutting board.

"You're welcome," you gave him a snarky grin and he rolled his eyes, continuing with his work.

Together, the two of you busted your asses in the kitchen. It was actually really fun and the kind of thing you needed right now to get your mind off of things. Cooking the cake and icing it was easy enough, but preparing the turkey was another story.

"Why is this so hard?" You huffed, trying to keep the buttery and awfully slippery turkey in one place as Niccolo stuffed it.

"Because you buttered it before I could stuff it," he grumbled and you shot him a glare despite the fact that he was right.

"I thought you told to me to butter it, so I did?"

"Yes, I did, but I said to do it after it was stuffed."

"Hey, how's it going in here?" Eren popped in and the two of you flashed smiles as you both chorused out a very positive, "Awesome!"

"Great!" Eren nodded his head and left after that, you and Niccolo's smiles dropping as soon as he disappeared from sight.

"Almost finished..." Niccolo put a little more stuffing inside and then flicked his head, trying to get his wavy hair out of his face.

You sighed, staring at the turkey in awe and raising your hand up, high-fiving Niccolo without even looking his way. The both of you then picked up the tray and shoved the bird into the oven.

"And now we wait," Niccolo grabbed a towel and wiped his hands off, giving it to you next.

"Uh...guys?" Armin called from the living room. You and Niccolo looked at each other curiously before heading over.

"What's up?" Niccolo turned his attention to the TV as Armin turned up the volume, the weather man's voice becoming a lot more clear.

"An unexpected blizzard is believed to be starting at around 5:00 and will last all through the night. We're asking that everyone stays indoors tonight and prepares for a night without power as we're expecting the freezing temperature and ice to cut power."

Everyone looked at one another, realizing what this meant. You were trapped, your gaze flicking over to Connie. You hoped this wouldn't be much of an issue, but with some tension still existing around the whole Eren and Mikasa pairing, this was bound to get a little more interesting.
