THE week of the ballads has passed and a new one has begun. The news of Quinn Fabray being kicked out of her house was all around the school already, but she couldn't care less. If there was one thing that came good out of that was getting to live with the Romero. They were what her family never was: supportive and loving in the most sincere way. Having people who accepted her for who she was now and truly cared about her well-being had led her to stop being so angry alm the time. And that somehow brought a more peaceful environment for the new directions, since she and Finn didn't fight that much anymore. But glee club was not glee club without drama.
As the week passed, they had realized of something unexpected: Amelia Romero and Santana Lopez were not in speaking terms anymore. No one knew why or since when the Latinas were fighting, but McKinley High was shocked about it.
You'll see, since the altercation with Grayson last year, the two girls had become inseperable at school. When Amelia transformed into the Amelia everyone knows now, she and Santana became a fearsome combo. They seemed unstoppable, and now? Now they didn't even dare to look at each other. And the fact that not even Mateo, Finn or the other half of the Unholy Horsewomen knew what happened was also surprising.
The only thing that was possible to know was how the fight hurt both girls. And during glee time was more noticeable.
They were always avoiding eye contact or closeness with each other, there was a visible tension between them that everyone could feel. But oddly, it wasn't the kind you have with a person you hate, it was one more...sad? Like if they regret being apart but don't have the guts to actually talk about it amd fix it. Which was exactly what was happening, neither of them was mad.
Santana felt extremely bad for the way she acted and the things she said. Deep down she knew that being scared was not an excuse to invalidate the feelings of her best friend and she honestly felt that somehow it was her fault that this happened. Because at the end of the day it was her idea to take their relationship a little further. But as always, her fear got the best of her and she decided not to say anything to the girl, assuming she would no longer want to have nothing to do with her. So, to lighten the weight on her chest, she took all of her anger at herself onto others.
After Quinn moved into her home, Amelia spent the next days making sure the blonde was okay. And once the girl was comfortable, that concern faded from her head, giving way to her previous thoughts. Now she was disheartened, feeling as if she was slowly falling apart. It wasn't just the fact that she had lost her best friend what hurt her, no, it was also that damn phrase that Santana said. Which, by the way, has not stopped resounding in her head since then.
"It's pretty clear to my that you are confused."
Was she? Well...yeah. But Amelia still wasn't sure about what she was confused.
Were all these years, especially those months, suffering for boys just "in vain"? All this time she turned out to be a lesbian? Or was possible that she liked boys and girls? Amelia wasn't ignorant, she knew there was something called bisexuality 'cause, you know, the B in LGBT isn't there for nothing but...was that what she was? Or was Santana right and she was still hurt about Grayson and projecting onto someone she thought wouldn't hurt her that way?
Having so many questions and no answers was driving her crazy, and she felt like she couldn't talk to anyone about it, the fear of losing more people prevented her from doing so. She had enough with losing Santana -the best friend she had ever had- and feeling that the girl would never speak to her again, too disgusted with her to ever do so.
This whole situation was hurting both of them, maybe in different ways but hurting in the end, and it lead to the separation of the famous Unholy Horsewomen: Amelia and Quinn on one side, Santana and Brittany on the other.

IN a new week at McKinley High, thirteen of the glee members have reunited in the choir room earlier that day. Kurt had called an emergency meeting before rehearsal and no one knew what it was about, so they just gathered around the piano looking at the boy with a bunch of Thunderclaps in his hands.
"Where's Rachel?" Everyone shrugged, not really caring about the girl.
"She's not here yet." Finn answered.
"Perfect. Glee club stands on a delicate precipice,we have all felt the cold humiliation of a slushie in the face. But as of right now, our relative anonymity as a club shields us from more severe persecution: swirlies, patriotic wedgies..." Kurt started to explain, but Mercedes interrupted him.
"What's a patriotic wedgie?" She asked.
"It's when they hoist you up the flag pole by your undies." Finn explained to her.
"Strangely, it did make me feel more American." Artie said, making Finn look away with a guilty expression.
"You did it to someone, didn't you?" Mateo asked him in a whisper.
"Don't look at me like that, I had to." Finn tried to defend himself. Kurt spoke again, louder, trying to regain the club's attention.
"Based on my investigation, I am of the opinion that a yearbook photo would only fuel the flames of anti-glee-club terror. I've done a little library research." He opened one of the yearbooks. "Peter Gellar. Glee club second tenor, 1998. He can be seen here with both a drawn on Hitler mustache and rice paddy hat. Shortly after the yearbook came out, Mr. Gellar had a nervous breakdown. He is now the homeless man who sleeps in front of the public library."
Amelia didn't bother to look up from her nails, not being in the best mood she has decided to stay in her chair and try not to talk to anyone. Like she has been doing the last days.
"Patches?" Quinn asked surprised.
"Patches." The boy affirmed.
"He barks at my mom." Brittany murmured, then she went to sit next to Amelia to keep her company. Since her best friends got into a fight, she didn't spend much time with Amelia anymore because Santana was always hogging her time. Brittany missed the brunette, she was the only one who fully understood her and didn't call her stupid. "Hey, Ames."
"Hey, Britt." Amelia smiled sincerely when the blonde laid her head on her shoulder.
"When are you and Santana gonna be friends again? I don't like the way things are now." Britt pouted.
"Trust me hon, I hate it as much as you do." The brunette replied.
"Then why don't you just forgive each other for whatever happened? Santana said she hates it too...I hate seeing you two so sad." She innocently suggested, causing a sad smile spread on Amy's face.
"It's just...it's more complicated this time Britt." Noticing her face turned even sadder, Brittany decided to change the subject.
"Okay, if you say so...Oh, you will not believe what Lord Tubbington did over the weekend!" She exclaimed excitedly, proceeding to tell her best friend the whole story about how her cat had joined a gang. They both were laughing out loud until they realized that their teacher was already in the room. When the girls decided to stop talking they heard him said,
"This year's Thunderclap is going to have a glee club photo with every one of your smiling faces, you have my word on it." He promised, causing his students wince, worried about what would happen if he succeed with that.
••••
AMELIA had been called to Coach Sylvester's office, so now she was heading there a little worried of what the woman would want. She knew her attitude had changed a lot lately and she really hadn't cared about it. Until now.
"You wanted to see me Coach?" She asked, opening the door slightly.
"Yeah, get in here." Sue indicated, taking off her glasses.
"Amelia, you know me, you know I don't care about the personal lives of my cheerios. But it's impossible for me to ignore the fact that you and your other latin half no longer speak. Although I may be proud to see a little Sue Sylvester style in your outbursts, I can't help but worry about my cheerios' future. I can't have not one, but two girls who seem to pay tribute to the Hulk everyday as the stars of the team." Amelia closed her eyes at that sentence, internally cursing herself for putting her position in danger.
"I-I'm really sorry, Ms. Sylvester. I know that we hadn't been...acting properly these days, but I promise you that our compromise with the team is still the same. Just please, please, don't kick us out of the cheerios." She pleaded. Just what I needed now. It's like murphy's law is chasing me.
"Look, Amelia, I don't care if you are fighting over who has the most illegal relatives in the country, or whatever problems you people have. Solve. It." Amelia was taken aback by this, but at the same time she knew Sue really think like that.
"We will, Coach, I promise." She replied quickly, trying to sound convincing. The woman examined her for a while until she decided that she should let her go, satisfied that she had implanted fear in the teenager. It wasn't like she planned on kicking them out anyway, not really.
"Alright then, you can go now. Just stop being so weird around each other." Sue dismissed the girl.
"I promise you Coach, I won't fail you." Amelia stood up from her seat, relieved that the woman didn't kicked her out. She knew that since Quinn left the team, the whole responsibility was on her, and she didn't want to fail at that.
When she was about to leave, her Coach spoke again. "Just know... you are good at this Amelia. You have everything that it's needed...don't let whatever is happening to you now ruin what you already earned. And if you ever need to talk, which I really hope you don't, I'm here for you." Sue Sylvester was being nice to the girl as rarely. Sure, Quinn Fabray was her favourite student, but Amelia Romero was...different. Sue knew her before she was a cheerio, and even then she saw something in the brunette. She saw that behind those glasses and pigtails was a girl with enough power to rule the school if she wanted to. Sue felt that Amelia had the same determination as her when she was younger, only that the brunette didn't lose her kindness completely.
"Thank you, Coach. It really means a lot to me. Oh, please send my regards to Jane for me."
"I will Ames." Smiling one last time, the girl left the room.
Sue Sylvester could be evil most of the time, but Amelia couldn't lie and say that the woman hadn't helped her when she needed it. Hearing those words really made her feel better with herself...now she felt bad for stealing from her a cheerios uniform for Quinn.
•••••
THE next day at the choir room, Amelia and Kurt were sitting on the piano stool trying to play a song on it. They had been slowly regaining their friendship, but now that the boy saw her so...not her, he was making a little more effort to forgive her and try to help her.
"Kurt!" Rachel suddenly interrupted them. "I have a fantastic idea for a club that would officially make me the most involved student in the whole school. I want us to start a GayLesBall."
"I'm sorry...what?" He asked perplexed.
"The gay-lesbian alliance." Amelia couldn't help but tense a little at her words. "Gay-Lesb-All." Rachel explained as if it was the most brilliant idea.
Kurt and Amelia shared a look and then got up from the bench, the latina glaring at the other girl. "You are unbelievable."
"Hey, guys! Great news! Glee club gets a photo in the thunderclap." Mr. Schuester informed them while entering the room, earning false cheers of enthusiasm from the students. "It's going to show everyone at the school that glee club is on its way up. When we win regionals, those claps are going to be collector's items. I mean, all of your classmates are going to be begging for your autographs."
"Does he seriously believe that?" Amelia asked Mike, who had take a seat next to her and let the girl rest her head on his shoulder. The boy just shrugged, not sure if the teacher really believed it or just wanted to.
"But I had to compromise to do it." Will continued. "Um, we only get a quarter page in back. Which means we have to pick two teams captains to appear in the photo. So, tomorrow we're going to put it to a vote. Exciting, huh?" He clapped his hands. "All right!"
•••••
AND they voted. The new directions, including herself, had voted for Rachel Berry as the team captain, not wanting to appear in a photo that would be defaced. But, noticing that the students were ashamed of being part of the club, Mr. Schuester insisted that they needed two captains. Which took the next few days for Rachel to beg her teammates to be her co-captain.

"Amelia, finally! I have a proposal for you." Rachel said standing next to the latina's locker.
"Whatever it is, I don't want to hear it." She replied bluntly.
"What? Why not?" She frowned.
"Because I don't like you." Amelia closed her locker and began to walk away.
"O-okay, but this is actually about glee club. I know you don't like to admit it, but I also know that you like being part of the club. That's why I would like you to be my co-captain." Rachel started walking behind her.
"Yeah, that's not gonna happen. I have enough on my plate already, like having to check that everything is perfect for the cheerios photo. Besides, I already told you I don't like you, so please stop talking to me." Amelia harshly said , causing Rachel to stop chasing her.
○○○
And something like that happened with all the members. Including Finn, who had agreed at first but ended up regretting it, leaving Rachel alone.
Now they were all in the choir room because Rachel had called for an emergency meeting.
"I'd like to call this meeting to order." The girl was about to close the door when Finn entered. "Oh, Hello Finn. Nice of you to show." She greeted him sarcastically.
"Look, I'm sorry. The guys were harassing me in the locker room about it. They said that if I took the glee club photo, they'd make me choose between a Hitler mustache or buck teeth, and I can't rock either of those looks." He said, sitting beside his girlfriend. "Do you think I have a potato head?" He asked her.
Amelia, who was sitting behind him, looked up from her phone and leaned close to his ear. "Yeah, you do." Finn huffed and pushed her head away, getting giggle from her. By her side Mateo was laughing too but stopped when Rachel spoke again.
"Okay, look, I-I realize now that all of you think that glee club is just a joke. Okay, a-and you're conviced that we can't win, and you're content to just sit idle by until Figgins cancels the club. Well, I'm about to present to you a rare opportunity. The opportunity to become stars."
"How?" He asked curiously. The girl could be a little crazy at times, but she could also be very persuasive, so Mateo knew she might have achieved something great.
"We've all been cast in a local commercial." Rachel informed proudly, making her teammates gasp in surprise.
"Are you serious?" Finn asked in disbelief.
"Yes, Finn, and while all of you have been so concerned with your appearance in this school, I've landed glee club its first big break. Simply put, making us all celebrities. Okay, and no one messes with celebrities or defaces their pictures." She explained, taking the opportunity to reproach them their behaviour.
"What's the commercial?" Tina asked next.
"Hold on to your hats and get ready to sell...some mattresses!" Rachel informed with a smile even bigger.
As everyone was cheering and laughing, the Romero siblings turned to each other and said at the same time.
"We will be on tv before Isabella!"
•••••
THE new directions were enthusiastically getting ready to shoot the commercial, but Amelia was a little further trying to brush her hair, grumpy. She had stupidly trusted that Teo and Mike could braid it and now was a complete mess. Besides, being honest, she knew it wasn't such big deal because at the end of the day it was just a local commercial, but the rest of the club seemed to think quite opposite.
"I can't believe we're finally breaking into the biz!" Tina exclaimed.
"You guys, I want us to always remember this moment. Soon, there may be agents and managers and movie deals, but right now I want us to remember what it feels like to be here together as a team." Rachel smiled widely.
"Whatever. Soon as I get my record deal, I'm not speaking to any of you." Mercedes joked, making the rest laugh. Except Amelia, of course.
She didn't want to say anything because she was being quite "grumpy" lately, but she couldn't help and roll her eyes at the exaggeration from her teammates. Seeing this, Mike approached her from behind and looked at her through the mirror.
"Can you just smile a little? I swear it's easy, look." He tried to grab the corner of her lips and pull them up, but he simply earned a blow to the head with the comb.
"You know what? You and your stupid friend will never get a smile from me. Look what you've done!" Her hair was still a disaster, which did not help with her mood.
"Hmm, are you sure about that sweetheart?" He arched an eyebrow at her and then began to tickle her stomach.
"S-stop! Michael!" She pleaded between laughs. The rest of the team was looking at them amused.
Every time those two had moments like this, the rest thought that they looked really cute together. Actually, the new directions were waiting for them to finally become a couple, although one of them doubted that would happen.
Suddenly, two men walked towards them.
"Okay guys, we're very excited to have you here. We here at mattress land believe that mattresses aren't just for sleeping and fornicating anymore. We believe that buying an affordable mattress should be fun." The manager of the store explained.
"All right, let's go over the script. I think it's pretty brilliant. I wrote it myself." The director said, Amelia recognized him as the guy who took the photos for the thunderclap. So that's how Berry got this.
"Action!" He yelled, motioning for them to act.
"Ah, me." Finn started, sighing.
"What's wrong?" Mercedes asked, smiling.
"We just lost our jobs...at the factory, and we can't get a good night's sleep." Puck continued. Amelia was trying hard not to laugh.
"Chipper up! Come up down to mattress land. We've got near-wholesale prices to fit your style and pocketbook." Rachel was the next one to read the script, joyfully. But after looking around her she knew this wasn't going well. "I-I'm sorry. Mr. Cusperberg. This script is brilliant."
"No, it's n-" Before he could finish the sentence, Mateo's mouth was covered by Finn's arm. Seeing that he was almost choking her brother, Amelia had to hit them both on the head.
"But we're a glee club, and we should perform." Rachel continued, looking at her teammates to get some support.
"Perform the lines as I wrote them." The director cut her off before she could say more.
"Wait a minute, Dennis. What did you have in mind?" The store manager asked interested. The fourteen teenagers shared a smirk, knowing exactly what they should do.
Jump!
Sung by the new directions.
"Come on down to mattress land!"
•••••
THE next morning on the Romeros' house before school, the three teenagers and Marissa were waiting expectantly in front of the tv for the commercials.
"David! Hurry up, you're gonna miss it!" The woman yelled at her husband, who was still upstairs. "Jesus, este hombre siempre decide ser lento en los peores momentos." She muttered to herself before going to the kitchen to get the breakfast. The teenagers chuckled at this, never getting tired of the screams of the adults.
"Calm down woman, I'm here!" He exclaimed, walking down the stairs with his shoes in one hand and his jacket in the other.
The five of them sat on the couch waiting for the mattress comercial to come out. Meanwhile they spent those minutes talking about other things, such as how Quinn felt for example, until the music of Jump began to sound on the tv.
"There is!" Mateo excitedly yelled.
"Ay David, our babies are on tv! Look how gorgeous they look, mis pequeñitos hermosos." Marissa squeezed Teo and Quinn's cheeks as David did the same with Amelia.
"Esos son mis pimpollos! " The man laughed histerically. "Who would say that three, sorry four, talented childrens came out of this house huh?"
It was at times like this that Quinn felt a bit uncomfortable living with the family. While it was obvious that both adults were proud of all three, she couldn't help but feel kinda left out when they spoke in Spanish.
"Dad, please...Isabella doesn't count." Mateo said with a smug smile on his face.
"Okay, okay. You love it, we got it. Calm down." Amelia managed to free herself from her father's grip. She loved them, but sometimes -to not say always- her parents could be outrageously exaggerated.
"Ay, why do you always have to be so amargada." Her mother reproached her.
"Yeah Ames, stop being an amargada." Teo mocked her, getting Amelia to hit him on the head with a toast.
"Hey, hey, hey. Don't play with the food." Their father scolded them, and then directed his attention to the blonde. "So...how did you not throw up with so many jumps?"
"Papa!"
"David!"
"What? I'm just asking!"
"I actually don't know how, but I never felt nauseous at the scene. It's not like I've done a lot of jumps tho." Quinn answered, laughing a little.
"Ok, a lot of talk for today, we have to go." Amelia took the last toast from the coffee table and stood up. "Bye mom, bye dad." She gave each of them a kiss on the head and walked to the door. Teo repeated her action and Quinn saluted with a polite "Bye Mr. and Mrs. R!"
"Goodbye queridos! " David replied.
"Have a nice day!" Marissa yelled.
Just as the three of them were leaving the house, Finn parked in front of them. And, continuing with their latest routine, the four teenagers went laughing and singing to the school, feeling good about themselves and the latest glee club achievement.
Not knowing that it would be one of the last times they would be so happy all together.
