𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐌 𝐌𝐂𝐊𝐀𝐘 always hated the way she was perceived.

For as long as she could remember, Tatum was only known as Maisie's little sister and there had even been a point in her life where she was totally and utterly convinced that nobody knew her real name. However after cutting off a girl's ponytail in the second grade, the theory was immediately put to rest. Let's just say Tatum received quite the lecture out of the principal and her parents that day. Nonetheless for the most part, Tatum didn't mind the recognition that her older sister got. In fact, she was actually quite proud of Maisie's achievements, but there were some moments where Tatum grew tired of talking about her sister. For once in her life, Tatum wanted to talk about herself and her accomplishments. Unfortunately, that was never the case for her, because Tatum and Maisie were polar opposites. The only thing that connected them was blood. However as hard as Tatum tried, it was still never enough for her parents and to cope with being the family's disappointment, Tatum turned to songwriting.

Unlike Maisie who played soccer to cope with her feelings, songwriting seemed to be the most helpful mechanism for Tatum. As time went on, the junior found herself finishing a song that could actually be good if it was sung by the right person. However because of her parents, Tatum was afraid of failure and decided to keep it to herself. As a matter of fact, she hid the whole hobby of songwriting to herself and her close group of friends. That was until her ex EJ Caswell stumbled across her song book.

Even though the two hadn't spoken to each other since their breakup, EJ was determined to share her gift to the world even if it meant showing it to the new theatre teacher, Miss Jenn. With that, little did Tatum know that she would be plunged into the drama of a putting on a high school musical production and she would be one of the people in the center of it all, alongside Ricky Bowen, Nini Salazar Roberts, and of course EJ Caswell.

I do not own any of the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series characters, their story lines or plot lines of the show. I also do not own the song Brutal. All of the credits goes to Olivia Rodrigo who had the FIRE debut album. I'm so incredibly stoked for her. But in this book, Tatum will have wrote it herself.
