"UH, so that's another hut... we got a lot of those β kind of our thing," Sokka made a motion with his hands getting an I see from ( Y/N ). After leaving the hut, Sokka took it upon himself to show ( Y/N ) around. As much as he found her annoying, she was stuck here and he was the leader of the tribe, after all.
Meanwhile, ( Y/N ) wasn't letting her guard down, ready for when the Fire Nation or Zuko might show up. She knew he's been on the icy waters for three years, hunting down the Avatar β this might be his next stop.
The duo headed an area surrounded by igloo like homes where there were barrels piled up and a fire lit. "And that's where we keep most of our weapons for say... in case, the Fire Nation comes back."
( Y/N ) raised an eyebrow. "Come back?"
"Uh, one night the firebenders raided the tribe..." Sokka trailed off, the memory flames surrounding everyone's homes and burning everyone before eventually snapping back to reality. "Oh β and were looking for waterbenders, they were ruthless and wouldn't stop until every waterbender was wiped out."
"Oh β I'm sorry," a sympathetic look formed on her features. When ( Y/N ) was younger her mother tried to keep her from the 'war tactics' of her father, so she never really knew much of the cruelty, but she did once her mother left.
"It's fine," Sokka shrugged. "We're never really ready until we have to be."
The two shared a look, a type of silence that ( Y/N ) nor Sokka never really felt before. It was quickly interrupted by the sound of a horn from the distance, the duo turned their heads to see a large ship β one belonging to the Fire Nation coming from the distance.
"Sokka!" From behind, they both could hear the shouting voice of Katara. She ran over to them with Aang trailing behind her. "Sokka, the Fire Nation. They're β"
"We know. We spotted them," Sokka cut her off before turning to the younger kids. "Get to your posts not!"
Some of the kids started gathering bows, arrows and stone. Katara helped Sokka tie something onto his battle uniform. "I don't understand. Why are they here? After all this time, what could they possibly want?"
"Him," the elderly woman spoke up, pointing her finger at Aang. "He's more than the last Airbender, aren't you? You are the Avatar."
Katara, Sokka and ( Y/N ) shared a choir of shocked face, stepped forward. ( Y/N ) was in disbelief β while she was glad that the world had its source of hope back, this also meant her twin brother Zuko would be here any minute to retrieve him and bring Aang back to their father βand maybe her too.
"I knew he was hiding something," Sokka spat. "When the world needed the Avatar most, he vanished because he's a coward. He ran, and people died."
From behind, a member from the tribe came forward. "Sokka, they've landed."
Sokka glanced back at Katara and ( Y/N ). "You need to go hide."
"Sokka, I wannaβ"
"Katara, now."
"Cmon, we need to get somewhere safe."

KATARA AND ( Y/N ) HID AANG in the hut and went back to the large wooden gate with the Sokka and a few other people who were gathered there, ready to fight in case anything happened. ( Y/N ) nearly froze at the sight of Zuko in his uniform, not having seen her brother in three years. She preferred it to be longer, but as much as the two hate each other, she was glad to be reassured to see her brother okay
It brought back memories to that day β why he's here, why he got the scar. Their father. Ever since she ran away, she'd been declared a traitor and if Zuko found her here and brought her back... you get the idea.
"I am Prince Zuko," Zuko began. "Firstborn son of Fire Lord Ozai... we have no desire to take your home. We merely seek someone who does not belong here. Someone who is not one of you. Turn him over now, or I'll burn this place to the ground."
A huff passed Sokka's lips as he walked away from the gates. "Where is he?"
Katara and ( Y/N ) followed behind Sokka, trying to convince him to let Aang stay with them and find another way to get rid of Zuko and his army. "Sokka, you can'tβ"
"He doesn't belong here," Sokka stated.
"It's wrong," katara argued. "You know that!"
"We can't let them take him!" ( Y/N ) insisted.
"What I know is that dad told me to protect the village," Sokka replied.
Katara stood in front of him. "Yes, but remember what mom told us too: she said that have to protect those who can't protect themselves. He's lost everything he knows."
Sokka tried stepping away again to find Aang, but Katara held him back. "Sokka, don't you see? He's the Avatar!"
"And he lied to us about it!" Sokka exclaimed.
"Maybe he and a good reason," ( Y/N ) blurted out, shrugging and earning a confused glance from Sokka and Katara. "Well... what if I was from... a place would you just throw me out with the instinct?"
"After our first 'greeting' maybe."
Katara sighed, stopping Sokka from walking to the hut once again. "Sokka, I know how hard this responsibilityΒ has been for you, but there's more to being a leader than just catching fish. You have to give people something to live for. That's what the Avatar is β he's hope and we need that just as much as we need food and shelter."

THE TWO DID A PRETTY good at convincing Sokka to let Aang be. Sokka god a weapon off of a table made from fur and headed out the gates to negotiate with Zuko, but ( Y/N ) β knowing Zuko her whole life ( being siblings and all ), she knew there would be no negotiation.
"I am Sokka," he began. "Son of Hakoda... Lord of, uh, snow and ice. On behalf of the Water Tribe Village of Wolf Cove, I demand that you leave immediately!"
Zuko sent him a death stare. "If this is the path you've chosen, then so be it."
Just as Zuko was about to walk back with his army ready to fight, an idea popped in Sokka's head. "Let's settle this! Leader to leader! You really need any army? I thought you Firebenders had some guts."
"Don't fall for it," one of the soldier's muttered. "We overpower them. It's not contest."
Zuko snapped his head in the soldier's direction. "Well, where's the glory in that? I accept."
There was a moment of silence before Zuko threw a ball of fire towards Sokka, causing him to duck and cover. He swung to the other side where Zuko swung at him again. ( Y/N ) stepped forward to the gates with Katara, a worried expression written all over her face. She's known Zuko long enough to see what their father turned him into.
Sokka was lying on the snow with Zuko standing above him, flame growing in his hand. "Who needs an army now?"
Just then, Aang came from the gates, blowing a large gusts of wind at Zuko's army, he flipped over the soldiers and swung his stick, blowing them away. He blocked Zuko's attacks with his air bending skills, but was quickly surrounding. In short time, children of the Water Tribe stepped in, throwing rocks at the soldiers and firing arrows.
Zuko grunted. "Enough games. Burn the whole place to the ground."
Just as Zuko's army was about to light a fuse, Aang stepped forward, causing them to lower their arms and put out the flames. "No! I'll go with you. Just them alone. I'm the one you're looking for."
"Get him."
"Wait!"
Sokka and ( Y/N ) stepped in to stop her from going forward while ( Y/N ) did her best not to be seen by Zuko β but she had a feeling he already knew.
"It's okay, Katara," Aang reassured. "No one has ever fought for me before. I think you're the bravest person I've ever met."
Zuko's army took Aang back to the ship and they watched them sail away. As they were slowly drifting away, Sokka watched, but then quickly went away with Katara and ( Y/N ) trailing behind him.
"Okay, listen up," Sokka ordered a member of the tribe. "Reinforce the braces on the gate, and don't fell behind on drills. I saw real sloppiness out there today."
"Drills?"
"And don't let the younger ones push you around," Sokka added. "You gotta let them know who's in charge. You're in charge."
Sokka turned around to the girls with a light smile. "Let's go save that weird kid."
"What about ( Y/N )?" Katara questioned.
( Y/N ) smiled. "I'm coming too," she shrugged. "I owe you, after all."
