EVER SINCE THE ACCIDENT LAST NIGHT THOSE FOUR INVOLVED COULDN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT IT, no mater how hard the sisters and the twin brothers did the issue at hand would flash in their mind, reminding them of what they were now stuck in and what they had done to survive.
It made matters worse when district 12 had found out about the two killings, and everyone was on edge or angry at what had happened, especially the peacekeepers searching for the murderers, and the mayor, who's daughter was the one Coryo first shot in order to protect his twin and their two girls.
The streets were patrolled with more peacekeepers once they were informed, making those who were against the Capitol become even more cautious of being caught, and the other civilian's in general being careful not to get mixed up in the trouble. They knew better since the Hanging Tree was used way too often.
Word did spread fast the district like wildfire which had those who knew the truth uneasy, knowing what would happen if someone other then them found out. It didn't help (Y/N)'s fears for what could happen to her sister, and Cassian as she wasn't that worried about herself in the moment.
All night long staying up in her bed twirling the ring Cas gave her in her fingers, she couldn't stop thinking about the Mayor's daughter and Billy Taupe, the two who were killed because of Coriolanus shooting them in the back.
The images of their lifeless bodies laying on the ground was a constant reminder every time her eyes closed, reminding her that she was involved in something dangerous, so dangerous that it puts her own life on the time.
Her and Lucy Gray both knew they needed to leave district 12, no matter how bad they wanted to stay, the two needed to flee away to safety. To get away from Mayor Lipp before he found out they were involved in the killing of his daughter, and Billy.
They both mutually agreed together on the decision, and both went their separate ways for now to talk to their Snow brother to inform them what was to time. And that's where it brought them, (Y/N) hiding in the shadows down a hallway keeping a look out for Cassian in his peacekeeper group.
Her (E/C) eyes scan the alleyway out in the open of the streets of the town, them brightening up a bit more when she spotted his tall figure walking fast through the path, wearing a peacekeepers outfit that did suit him well, despite it being against her own morals on what it standed for.
The sound of her bird whistle caused Cassian to freeze mid step following the pack of peacekeepers, sending a look to them before turning to face where it came from. He backed up to walk down the dark alley having a strong feeling he knew who it was.
As he neared the end of the alley, the dim light revealed (Y/N) standing there, a silhouette against the darkness. The sight of her caused his helmet to slip from his hands, forgotten as it clattered to the ground beside his feet.
Unable to contain his joy, Cassian closed the remaining distance in swift strides, his eyes locking onto (Y/N). In an instant, he scooped her up beneath her thighs, lifting her effortlessly into the air. They collided in the middle of the alley, a collision of hearts yearning for the solace of each other's presence.
With the world fading into the background, she buried her face in the crook of his neck, nose nuzzling into his warm skin that she was afraid she'd never feel again, the sting of held-back tears evident in her tightly shut eyes.
She clung to him desperately, her fingers gripping onto the fabric of his uniform and the back of his hair. Cassian mirrored her intensity, his face pressed into her shoulder, showering kisses along the base of her neck.
In the hushed darkness, their whispers merged, a symphony of declarations and reassurances. "I missed you so much," He breathed against her skin, his warm words a balm to the wounds they both carried, "I'm so glad you're okay, darling."He continued, voice a soothing melody that resonated through the alley only for her ears to hear.
She felt his larger hands squeeze her thighs more as they rubbed up and down them slowly, her legs wrapped around his waist as they continued to hug each other tightly, "I missed you too." She whimpered a bit into his neck, before pulling back to gaze into his soft blue eyes, "So much. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to see you again after yesterday-"
In a sudden, desperate motion, he pulled back to move his head down, and crushed his mouth to hers, a hungry kiss that consumed the unspoken sentiments hanging between them.
(Y/N)'s words were swallowed by the intensity of his lips pressed against hers, her protest transformed into a soft gasp of surprise. The kiss was a proclamation, a declaration of the emotions too potent to be articulated, and also to keep her from worrying so much.
Gradually, Cassian lowered her back to the ground, their bodies remaining intimately close. With her back against the cool wall, she could feel the heat radiating from his chest, their breaths mingling in the charged space between them. His hands found their way to her waist, fingers tracing patterns that spoke of possessiveness and longing.
One hand cradled the side of her face, his palm warm against her skin, as their lips continued their frantic dance. The world faded away, leaving only the two of them entangled in the fervor of the moment.
Lost in the intoxicating connection, her hands found their way to his shoulders, fingers curling into the fabric of his uniform. Their bodies pressed together, a fusion of heat and desire, as the world outside the cocoon they created ceased to exist, surrendering to the urgency of their reunion, their lips moving in a symphony of passion.
However she was the first to pull back from the passionate kiss, heavy breaths now being heard in the alley was their foreheads rest against one another briefly, catching their breathes as he gazed at her lovingly, and she looked down at their rings on each others fingers.
She licked her bottom lip already feeling how wet it was from his mouth being on hers, and exhaled heavily leaning the back of her head on the wall, "This isn't good, Cass." She whispered, making his brows furrow confused, "The mayor already thinks it was me and Lucy Gray. If they catch Spruce now, or Sejanus talks-"
"He won't talk." He quickly cut her off looking at her seriously, removing one of his hands from her waist to cup her face directing her conflicted gaze to his, "I know Sejanus way more then Coryo does. Sejanus won't do that to us."
She shakes her head hitting her head back into the wall again adiated, but his hand stopped her from doing so, "How do you know that?" She asked weakly placing her palms onto his chest, and pushed him back a bit to leave some space between them, "They torture the people they catch for information here. Even peacekeepers."
"I'm so sorry, my love." He whispered in a slight voice crack causing her heart to clench, as he stares down at her sadly feeling the guilt weigh on his shoulders more, and pressed his lips to the inside of her wrist softly, "I should have told you what was happening beforehand, and kept you safer from all this. I never wanted you to get involved-"
She sighs through her nose a bit shakily at the touch of his warm lips on her skin, and slipped her fingers in between his as she used her other to brush some of his curly locks off his forehead, him leaning into her like a puppy dog.
"I know you meant well, Cass." She mumbled flashing him a reassuring smile making him relax a bit seeing it, before her look faded into a frown, "But, I have to take Lucy Gray and run north. Like Billy Taupe and the others talked about. Away from the districts. If we stay here now, we're as good as dead, too."
"What about the Covey?"
"They can look after each other." She answered briefly glancing down the alley spotting Lucy Gray's head going around the corner with Coryo, and felt Cassian move closer to her more, still leaning her back on the wall, "Besides, they technically were never my group. Lucy Gray is, and now you are too."
Before he can even reply to her sudden confession, the sound of gunshots down the alley in the streets startled the girl, making her inch closer to him, feeling his arms wrap around her figure sensing how on edge she was since what happened last night. But then again, so was he.
He looked down at (Y/N) pressing her the side of her head against his chest, as he leant down to brush his lips along her cheek gently catching her attention, "I'll come with you." He whispered after a second, voice holding a slight pleading tint to it, "Let me come with you, darling."
She blinked rapidly hearing his words right by her ear, and moved herself so she was still in his arms but now looking up at him, "What about your other family?" She asked in confusion, a sad frown creasing her brows, "I could never ask that of you, Cass. I don't want you to leave your family behind for my sake."
He smiled softly making his dimples appear again at how selfless she was being, and reached down to brush back some loose locks off her face, "I'd follow you anywhere, Fireheart." He breathed out in a daze, setting her heart bursting with love, "To whatever end, you have me."
Her hand holds onto his more tightly unable to control her emotions as her eyes sting again, and watches his expression become serious for a moment, "I also just learnt Hoff is maybe going to send me to 2 for Officer Training with Coryo, but none of that matters now."
"You were gonna leave too, weren't you?" She realised out lout cutting him off, hurt becoming clear in her tone and eyes and crossed her arms over her chest, no longer touching him anymore as she furrowed her brows.
His shoulders slumped a bit exhaling heavily through his parted lips, and brushed his thumb along her waist leaning down to bump his nose against hers gently, trailing it a bit along her bridge until their noses pressed together.
"I wouldn't of gone without you, baby." He reassured in a rasp, blue eyes flickering between hers, and lips beginning to tremble, and leans his forehead briefly onto hers, "You mean the world to me, and more. I could never leave you behind."
He was so close to expressing how he's been feeling lately about (Y/N), about how he was thinking about her way more then he did usually at night and any time of the day, and that he dreamt of a life they had together. Away from everything, and everyone, getting married and maybe even having kids.
Cassian wanted nothing more, has never wanted something so bad before in his life then the life he dreamt about with the girl in his arms. He thought that cooking would be his one and only true love, but as soon as he first landed eyes on (Y/N), he knew that was a lie. He knew he'd fall unconditionally in love with the mocking jay girl.
And he had no idea she felt the same way about him, probably even stronger than what he did for her. She couldn't put into words how much she loved, cared and adored the cook, nothing could come close to how much she did. There was no denying it, or trying to fight it. She was in love with Cassian Snow, and wouldn't want it any other way.
"When do you want to leave?" His soft, coaxing question knocked them both out of their thoughts, placing another warm kiss onto her ringed finger before letting it go, their bodies still close together in the dark alley.
She sucked in air between her teeth pondering for a few seconds, moving her eyes towards the end of the alley seeing Lucy Gray now waiting for her, and Coriolanus beside her also most likely waiting for Cassian, fully dressed in his peacekeeper outfit that matched the one before her.
"Tomorrow. Dawn." She confirmed in a firm tone, turning back to Cassian's waiting expression and nodded her head at him with a small smile, "That's when we can all leave."
"Okay, Fireheart. Okay." He murmured in agreement flashing a dimple smile of his own, before swallowing the lump in his throat no longer wanting to back down with her, "Meet me at the Hanging Tree. First light."
(Y/N) just nodded also in response looking up into his blue eyes, as he reached down to touch the bottom of her chin, gripping it in between his thumb and pointer. He brought her mouth up to his to meet in the middle for a sweet kiss, their lips moving in sync against one another's straight away in a desperate, but soft manner.
Her hands rested on his chest gently caressing the skin there as they continued to move their lips together, until Cassian pulled back with their mouths making a small smacking sound, and gazed into her eyes lovingly that matched hers.
"I'll see you soon, darling." He breathed against her mouth leaving one final and firm kiss against them, both hands cupping her face now to make it last longer, as she drowned into his touch and savoured it while it lasted.
Once they were pulled apart once more which took a lot of their will power to do so, Cassian grabbed his helmet from on the ground to slip it back on, before walking off down the alley meeting Coryo halfway. If he looked back to her, he knew it would be harder to leave her until they could be free again.
(Y/N) stayed in her place watching the love of her life walk away from her, hands clasped together resting on her chest as she rubs over the ring he gave her. Her eyes met Lucy Gray's panicked ones who was rushing up to her, and saw some other peacekeepers over her shoulder dragging someone by the arms.
Curiosity got the best of both sisters, as they linked hands tightly to step out of the shadows into the light and follow the peacekeepers dragging the person along the ground, hearing the cheers and excitement from all around.
Many people were already at the hanging tree area when the two arrived, keeping to the back to not get spotted by anyone. The sisters made sure to hold onto each others arms, as they pushed their way through the crowd, all the way until they were decently up front with some other people around them.
Her worried (E/C) eyes scanned over the crowd before landing on the stage, to spot a sneering looking Mayor beside the Commander of the peacekeepers, and all the soldiers lined up along the stage holding guns.
Her stomach churns when she sees Cassian's head turned downwards, knowing all too well what he was feeling, and made eye contact with him when he looked up. He shuffles uncomfortable in his spot once he did, now even more alarmer seeing the girl he loved was in the crowd.
"Three years, I've fought for the Capitol during the war." Commander Hoff began to speak in his authority tone, it echoing around the entire area up on stage, "I've been angry. But this is the first time I felt ashamed. Get the other one up here!"
An empty spot on the hanging tree were free beside Spruce, as Hoff points to something out in the distance, making the sisters and crowd all step to the side, allowing the peacekeepers to walk through the gabs to the stage.
When (Y/N) finally could see who it was they were forcefully dragging by their arms, she felt her heart drop and eyes widen in horror. She muffled the gasp she let out by her palms over her mouth, watching as Sejanus was now getting pulled up to the stage ready for his hanging.
"Cass- Coryo-" Sejanus tried to get the brothers attention as he pushed back against the hold, tone holding desperation as his eyes met Cassian's teary ones, causing Sejanus hope to vanish completely once he saw the defeated look on his best friends face.
The cook wanted to do something to save Sejanus, his best friend, his brother whom he swore to protect, but couldn't even move, not when Coriolanus had a hold on his arm tightly, and felt the watchful eyes of the Capitol on him.
He had no idea that Coryo had done this to Sejanus, had no clue that he went behind his back when they discussed with each other to leave it alone. But, no. Cassian never felt such betrayal before, and never expect it to be from his twin in blood, the one whom he trusted more then anything.
It looks to seem that now the Snakes were being brought out, and Cassian knew, he knew that his brother wasn't what he seemed. He was dangerous, and couldn't be trusted anymore. Not when he completely backstabbed Sejanus for their sake, even if there was no other way to save them.
In the crowd (Y/N) pulled Lucy Gray into her side wrapping an arm around her shorter figure, biting down on her trembling bottom lip realising this was happening, and Cassian's brother was about to be hanged for something he didn't even do.
She blocked out the words coming from Commander Hoff talking about the Capitol, and briefly heard the recording of Sejanus, Cassian, and Coriolanus talking to one another. Her eyes met Cass's up in front, meeting his teary gaze seeing him shaking his head slowly, causing her heart to squeeze in her chest painfully.
As soon as Sejanus started crying and yelling for his mother, her eyes squeezed shut hiding her face in Lucy Gray's hair, protecting her from the view as the peacekeepers remove the stools out from underneath him, and Spruce, and the mockingjays above began to mimic Sejanus' yells.
