❝ WHAT DO YOU THINK, (Y/N)? ❞
CHAPTER TEN ✧・゚

▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅

THE HOB WAS FULL OF THE CROWD CHEERS AND LAUGHTER AS THE LOUD MUSIC FILLED THE ROOM, the covey up on stage like usually performing for district 12 with their instruments, the only decent thing that occurred to keep the people happy and sane under the Capitols' rule.

(Y/N) stood up on stage in the middle of it using the guitar the Cassian recently somehow bought her, wearing a black flowing skirt with a white tucked in shirt, her hair neatly down to sit on her shoulders, boots on her feet and a rose tied around her wrist.

Lucy Gray was beside her swaying a bit to the peaceful melody they were playing, a microphone in front of them both, as the covey all strummed their selected pieces behind them like normal. Her eyes connect with her sisters, and smiled encouragingly for her to sing the song she was talking about before coming up on there.

The girl bit on her bottom lip nervously fiddling with a familiar ring on her finger that she hasn't taken off, gently strumming along the strings of the guitar with an orangey red pick, that she actually made from scarp a while back.

Her sister could sense she was beyond scared to even sing the song she worked on, especially in front of the person who it was made for. So, Lucy Gray gently bumped her elbow into (Y/N)'s, not pausing her strumming along the guitar.

"It's alright, bird." Lucy Gray whispered softly just so she could hear her, using the other girls nickname from their childhood together, meeting her wide (E/C) eyes comforting, "He will love it. Because if he loves you, he will. And Cass knows its from your heart, so don't be afraid to express it."

(Y/N) took a moment to let her sisters words sink in as Lucy Gray steps back a bit still smiling, and the girl faces away to where the back of the crowd was. Her eyes instantly meet a pair of soft blue eye watching her, making her heart leap inside her chest and brush her thumb along the ring he gave her.

From her spot right up on the stage, she knew he was smiling lovingly at her, dimples appearing on his cheeks from how wide he was doing so. And she also saw him wearing his wing on the same finger as hers still also, followed by a charming wink that made her giggle a bit under her breath.

Cassian's hair was growing back a bit now too, as his fringe was over his forehead a bit but still had the buzzcut underneath the mop of curls. He was wearing a blue jumpsuit peacekeeper uniform, and had his dog tag displayed over it this time.

His stomach was churning a lot ever since the moment before coming here to watch his girl play, being stuck in between an argument with Coryo and Sejanus, and thats was why he was sat in between them also to keep the peace. Even if he felt uncomfortable, he wouldn't show the (H/C) haired girl that.

Up on the stage her eyes stay looking into his even with the distance between them, and goes to exhale heavily before going up to the microphone, and began to start playing her guitar while singing softly. No longer afraid to express how she truly felt about the Snow brother. The one whom saved her. Cassian, her Cass that she was in love with.

"Everyone's born as clean as a whistle.
As fresh as a daisy and not a bit crazy.
Staying that way is a hard row for hoeing.
As rough as a briar, like walking through fire."

As her soothing singing voice traveled through the room, everyone in the crowd began to also slow dance with the partner, which made her wish she could experience that with Cassian. But she knew, they have their chance soon, and if not, then she was sure fate would be nice to her for once.

"This world, it's dark, this world, it's scary.
I've taken some hits on so no wonder I'm wary.
It's why I need you. You're pure as the
driven snow."

Cassian's heart was soring inside his chest hearing her ethereal voice through his ears, knowing this song was about him, and only him. He sinks back into his seat a bit more, a soft smile covering his mouth as his eyes held a fond glint staring at his (Y/N) up on the stage.

"Everyone wants to be like a hero.
The cake with the cream or the doer not dreamer. Well, doing's hard work, but it takes some to
change things. Like goat's milk to butter,
it's like ice blocks to water. This world goes
blind when children are dying. I turn into dust,
but you never stop trying. It's why I love you."

When she sang out those last words more throaty her eyes meet his across the room, both their hearts beating faster in almost sync realising what she said was true. What they both felt for each other was love, and possibly stronger then that. What he felt for her couldn't be explained in words, and nor could she do the same about him.

As the melody wrapped around him, Cassian felt a profound swell of emotion. It wasn't just the music; it was the raw emotion in (Y/N)'s voice that reached deep into his soul. Each note she sang was a testament to the passion she poured into her art, and it stirred something within him.

His gaze, fixated on her, softened with an overwhelming sense of pride and love. The room blurred as he became lost in the beauty of her performance. The corners of his eyes moistened, and he blinked away the first few tears that welled up, unable to contain the depth of his emotions, as his finger brushes up against the ring on his fourth one.

In that moment, amidst the dancing around him and the music, Cassian was overcome with a profound appreciation for the woman on stage—his muse, his confidante, his love.

"You asked for a reason, I've got three and twenty. For why I trust you. You're pure as a bird,
the driven snow divne. It's why I trust you.
You're pure as the driven snow."

He was so focused on her up on the stage now grinning happily as she strung along the guitar, that he failed to notice his twin and best friend stand up from their seats, Coryo getting up to follow Sejanus sensing something was wrong.

Coriolanus stepped in front of his view of (Y/N) despite him also wanting to watch Lucy Gray, and her, but other things were important right now. He gained a small scowl from Cassian at him standing there, and sighed heavily.

"Don't look at me like that." He whispered yelled loud enough for his brother to hear, and grabbed his wrist to tug Cass beside him, "Sejanus is up to something, and we need to either stop or report him."

The cook gave him an incredulously look tugging his arm back, and crossed them both over his chest, looking past his brother to his girl on stage still singing, "We do not need to do either. He's capable of doing whatever he's doing on his own."

"This is serious!" He rose his voice a bit over the music to get his point across, and pointed a finger at his twins chest roughly and then back to his own, "We need to do something, because otherwise both of us will be hanged! That includes the girls, Cass."

His shoulders tensed a bit hearing the last part, his blue eyes moving from (Y/N) to Coryo and softened a bit seeing the stressed expression he wore. A heavy sigh escaped Cassian's parted lips, and licked his bottom one thinking for a few seconds.

"I'm just trying to watch her perform, Coryo." He mumbled in a sad tone slumping back into the chair, running a hand down his face conflicted, before meeting his brothers eyes with a frown, "But Sejanus is my friend, so I will help."

Coriolanus breathed a sigh of relief at his answer, a warm smile tugging at the corner of his mouth as he nudged his head left of them, where the crowd wasn't as busy, "C'mon, he went this way."

With one last longing look at (Y/N)'s carefree face singing up on stage to the crowd, Cassian stood up from his spot to follow his brother through the crowd, not looking back once to his girl otherwise he would of turned right back around.

When the song came to an end with the instruments still playing behind them because of the covey, the sisters smiled wide as the crowd broke into cheering applause, and shared a happy giggle with one another, before turning back to the crowd looking for the brothers.

The excited grin quickly dropped from (Y/N) when she saw Cassian pushing his way through the crowd, following behind Coriolanus heading to the long hallway, no longer watching her and Lucy Gray perform.

"You saw them walking away too, right?" She faced Lucy Gray in question furrowing her brows, and stopped playing her guitar, no longer feeling the moment since he wasn't in the same room.

The brown haired girl nods her head slowly scanning the crowd quickly, before meeting her sisters (E/C) eyes with her own confused look, "I did. Why would they leave so soon?" She wondered out loud moving closer to her, not wanting to speak into the microphone, "It doesn't make sense."

"Yeah, it doesn't." (Y/N) mumbled in agreement making her accent thicker, face hardening up now worried for the brothers as she set down her guitar against the drums, "Come on, we're going to go find them."

Lucy Gray spluttered a bit in surprise at her sisters words, but also set her guitar down beside hers giving Maude a signal they would be back, as the covey took over the performance for the loud crowd, who went back to dancing like it was their last night ever.

Together they hope off the stage from the side of it, helping each other down from the ledge, and quickly weaved through the crowd, their hands holding one another momentarily to not lose the other one in the rowdy crowd.

The more they got closer the more the sisters heard yelling voices of a few people, catching their attention. (Y/N)'s hand tighten around Lucy Gray's when they rounded the corner of the hallway, and paused for a second mid step making her sister look to her worriedly.

"I don't know what's happening in there, but stay close to me." She whispered in a low warn to her, a bad feeling starting to churn in her stomach that had her gulping, and sending her sister a serious stare, "Alright?"

Lucy Gray just nodded in acknowledgement to her words, and squeezed her hand firmly, before they turned around together and picked up the speed when the voices got louder. Their fears spiked up even more when they entered the private room, and saw the scene in front of them.

(Y/N)'s face fell quickly making Lucy Gray stand behind her a bit, their hands slipping from one another in the process of it. There stood before them in the back room was, Cassian, Coriolanus, Sejanus, Billy Taupe, Mayfair Lipp, and Spruce.

She nervously exhaled when she saw Spruce holding a riffle, and pointed it at Cass, who was in fact protecting his twin who had the riffle pointed at him first.

The Snow brothers were the first to notice the girls, who were completely oblivious to what was going on. Sharing a serious look between each other, the twins acted to protect the girls who mattered most to them.

In a swift movement Cassian backed up straight away, pushing his body against (Y/N)'s to shield hers from the gun, and held out an arm to provide even more protection, while Coryo did the same to Lucy Gray beside them.

"You invite the whole town, Plinth?" Spruce grunted his question to Billy in his thick accent, holding the gun that was still pointed at Cassian and the nervous girl behind him.

Billy held out a hand also to touch the gun directed at them, making eye contact with (Y/N) for a split second, causing Cassian to scowl in warning, "She's okay, Spruce." Billy voiced turning back to the male, "Both girls are joining us too. Archeron is with me."

"She's what?" Mayfair asked in disbelief double taking on her boyfriend, who was holding her hand but yet it still felt like a forced and fake relationship they had going.

A look of annoyance flashed in his eyes for a second, before spinning around to squeeze her hand, "Quiet down, Mayfair." He whispered in a snappy way, "I'll explain later."

She scoffed giving him a glare, and ripped her hand out of his forcefully, "I think I'm done listening to your explanations." She sneered getting up into his face, before directing he glare to the sisters, "They're not going anywhere. And neither are you. My Pa's gonna string y'all up."

When she tried to walk away to the door Spruce pointed the rifle at Mayfair, causing the Snow brothers to exclaim protest while Billy smacked it down with his palm, "Stop, don't!"

Spruce shrugged the hold off the gun and scowled at the mayors daughter, before looking at all the other people inside the room knowingly, and exclaimed in a shout, "She'll get us all hung!"

(Y/N) bit her tongue not knowing how to feel about what was happening, nor knew what to say as her fingers grip onto Cassian's arm in front of her, her chest pressed against his back and side a bit since he was still protecting her by standing in her way of the gun and the others.

Her eyes met Lucy Gray's alerted ones over Coriolanus shoulders, seeing her shaking her head side to side to signal not move nor get involved, as they both entered in the wrong time and were now involved in something that was bigger then they first thought.

"I think he's right, Cass." She speaks in a whisper to the male, who instantly turned back to look at his girl panicked and gave her a reassuring look noticing how she was shaking a bit, fingers brushing against hers also.

Mayfair surprisingly turned to the girl behind Cassian, a fake sweet smile over her lips, "What do you think, (Y/N)?" She asked her, name coming out in a hiss, "Am I all talk, no action? Hey, how'd you and your sister enjoy the Capitol, by the way?"

(Y/N)'s nose flared in growing rage at the girls words, glaring at Mayfair with deep hatred, and had to grip onto Cassian's arm more to calm herself down before she did something stupid. Like punching her and kicking the mayors daughter.

Mayfair just giggled amused as she turned around, starting to walk away towards the door without looking back the group hearing Billy and Spruce fighting, "See ya'll at the Hanging tree."

Cassian's jaw clenched tightly trying to control his temper, his veins on his forehead appearing a bit to physically show how he was. He knew he couldn't let Mayfair get away because if she did tell, his girl, his (Y/N) would be strung up and killed, not him, her. And he couldn't let that happen. He wouldn't. Even if that meant becoming the bad guy.

However before he could even act, his brother, his twin for life, Coriolanus had snatched the gun from Cass's hands, and didn't hesitate to shoot Mayfair in the back, the sound ringing out through the small room.

Mayfair cried out in pain falling to the floor with a bleeding wound, as Cassian's eyes widen in disbelief snapping his head to his twin, realising he took the heat and the weight of killing someone for him.

(Y/N) gasped in a strangled way not believing that just happened, her hands flying up to her mouth looking over Cass's broad shoulder, watching Billy run up to Mayfair and drop to his knees on the floor beside her.

Her teary gaze quickly moved out to her sister who was hyperventilating, and she wanted to go comfort her, but the hold Cassian had on her got stronger, making her stop what she was doing, and sent Lucy Gray the best comforting look she could manage.

"Well, you just shot the mayors daughters, son." Spruce spoke up over the noises coming from Lucy Gray crying to Coryo, and Billy trying to shake Mayfair on the ground, "If you weren't a rebel before, you are now."

The male by Mayfair's dead figure looked back at the small group, vision filled with tears as he silently seethed at the Snow brothers, "You killed her."

"Quiet, Billy Taupe." Spruce scolded turning his attention to him, his grip on the rifle not slipping for a second spotting the raged look on the said male's face staring at the four behind him.

The air felt dense and stifling, a suffocating tension enveloping (Y/N) as she teetered on the edge of a looming panic attack. Her breaths came in shallow gasps, each inhalation a struggle against the invisible weight pressing on her chest. The room, once familiar, now seemed alien and unwelcoming.

Sensing her distress, Cassian moved turned around to her spotting his brother comforting Lucy Gray also. Cass's eyes reflected concern and love, as gently he reached out to cup the side of (Y/N)'s face, his hand a warm anchor on her trembling body.

"Baby, look at me." He whispered in a urgent tone, his voice a soothing balm, as her panicked gaze meets his, and he tucks a piece of hair behind her ear, "You and me are going to be alright. Nobody is gonna think this was us, I promise."

Her eyes flickered rapidly between his blue comforting ones seeing how he was scared also, and tried to slow her breathing down as her shaking hand comes up to grip his wrist, holding it to ground herself from freaking out.

"You reckon you're just gonna walk out of here free?" Billy asked them all with his hands on his girlfriends dead body, hatred clear in his voice and expression, "Dump this on me, maybe? You got a surprise coming, Capitol boys. If I'm gonna swing for this, you swing with me."

Letting out a yell of anger, Billy charged at Cassian blindly making the Snow male shield (Y/N)'s body with his own, but Spruce was quick to shoot him. His body slammed into the wall before slipping onto the ground dead, causing the two girls to cry out in shock, hyperventilating even worse now then before.

"N-no way, he's-" The Archeron girl gasped out in a choked voice falling against Cassian who caught her in his arms, pushing her face into his chest forcing her to not look at the two dead bodies laying on the ground, the once two whom she knew.

He wrapped his arms around her shaking figure tightly moving them away to the back of the room, and held her close sharing a serious look with his brother who was cradling a crying Lucy Gray, both of them knowing what this meant for the four of them now.

"You're okay, darling. You're okay. I'm here." His words were a frantic reassurance hearing her quickened breathing, pressing his lips by her ear as he mentally cursed himself for letting the woman he loved more then anything have to experience this. He knew she could handle it, but he still didn't want her to have too. It wasn't fair.

She squeezed her eyes shut tightly pressing her face more into his chest, trying to block out everything around her, as the sound of the gunshots still ring in her ears, causing tears to burn her eyes thinking about the murders that just happened. She knew none of them had no choice, but it still didn't mean she couldn't feel horrible about it.

Cassian pulled back to slide his larger hands up to her cheeks cupping them, and bent his head down to press his forehead against hers, "Listen to me, okay? You're gonna go back out on that stage and you're gonna sing with your sister." He began to tell gently wiping away her tears with his thumbs, "You're gonna sing like nothing is wrong. And I'm gonna find us a way out of this, okay?"

"Y-yes, okay." She stuttered back in a scared hiccup, nodding her head against his as he pulled back to press a hard kiss on top of her forehead, letting it linger as she recollected herself feeling his comforting touch on her.

"Good girl." He rasped a gentle whisper onto her skin, a hand still cradling the back of her head that his fingers brushed through her locks reassuringly, his darkened gaze on the bodies behind her shoulders seething silently.

Once more he pulled back giving her one last strong look of reassurance, both their rings feeling heavier on their fingers as he ushered her to go. And she did, running out of the room grabbing Lucy Gray's hand in hers, not looking back once.
