[13] ; FAREWELL

A CREAK DOWN the dormitory stairs awoke Aubrey Thomas out of her slumber. She blinked her eyes several times, adjusting to the darkness clouding the room. Aubrey took notice that a glowing light came from the common room; she got up from her bed, investigating the mysterious creaking sound and light. She spotted Draco with his wand igniting the Lumos spell. Aubrey knew exactly where he was going off to-tonight was the night-the night Draco was ordered to kill Albus Dumbledore.
"Draco, don't do it," Aubrey softly spoke, causing the blond-haired boy to jump slightly.
He sharply turned around; Aubrey noticed how somber her brother looked. She wanted to help him out, but he didn't listen. Draco was always going to want to please Lucius, no matter how much it kills him-physically and mentally.
"I have to," Draco mustered, regret and guilt building in his eyes. And with that sadden comment, the Malfoy boy left the common room.
Aubrey stood there, her arms crossed over her chest. She muttered curse words under her breath, before hastily following after him. The brunette whispered-hissed Draco's name repeatedly, but he didn't answer. He heard her loud and clear, but he had to do this. There was no other choice.
The two siblings came face-to-face with The Room of Requirement door. "Draco, seriously. You don't have to do this. There's a way out," Aubrey pleaded to him, but he had already opened up the door, walking into the room.
"There's no other way, Aubrey," Draco snapped, awaiting by the vanishing cabinet.
"Yes there is! I made it out. I'm the perfect example of standing up to Voldemort," Aubrey tried to reason, but every time the witch spoke, Draco shut her down.
In the next few minutes, the door to the cabinet opened up. Aubrey fearlessly backed up against a chest, gulping in pure fear. She knew tonight was not going to end well.
"Aubrey, what a lovely surprise," Greyback grinned, "Coming to your senses to join the right side?"
The brunette-haired witch glared at him. "I'd rather have you Cruico me till I end up like Neville Longbottom's parents, than join Voldemort's side."
"Don't speak The Dark Lord's name, mudblood!" Bellatrix screeched.
Greyback placed an arm in front of the Black witch. "Don't Bellatrix. And Aubrey, that can be arranged," the werewolf referred back to Aubrey's sentence.
"If you both have noticed, I was His second-in-command. He trusted me, he valued my opinion," Aubrey smirked, gloating. "And remember, the prophecy."
Bellatrix rolled her eyes, as Greyback grumbled in annoyance. The other Death Eater's came out of the cabinet, joining the group. The group of Death Eaters marched toward the Astronomy tower, where Dumbledore was at. He just returned from retrieving a Horcrux with Harry.
Aubrey didn't even want to see Harry in this moment; she could only imagine what he might think in this moment.
Draco went up the stairs of the Astronomy tower, as the other Death Eaters remained down the stairs. Aubrey had followed in suit with Draco, begging him not to do this.
Draco slowly approached the top, his wand pointed directly at the headmaster. Dumbledore turned around, nodding his head toward the two siblings, his wand to the side of him. "Good evening, Draco, Aubrey. What brings you two here on this fine spring evening?"
"Who else is here?" Draco hissed, referring to the voices he had heard earlier before he went up the stairs. "I heard talking."
"I often talk aloud to myself. I find it extraordinarily useful."
"Draco, you are no assassin," Dumbledore mentioned.
"How do you know what I am?" Draco spat, making his sister flinch. Dumbledore looked over at Aubrey, giving her a look of sorrow.
The Thomas witch looked down at the ground, as she frowned, spotting raven-colored hair. The head looked up, revealing Harry's face. Aubrey's expression was mixed with surprise and regret. She only wondered what Harry was thinking in this moment. She tried to give him a look that said-'I promise I'm not helping the Death Eaters. And I promise I only came up here to stop Draco. I'm on your side'-but Aubrey didn't think that was quite possible.
"Forgive me, Draco, I cannot help feel these actions are so weak that your...heart can't really have been in," Dumbledore tried to reason with him.
"He trusts me. I was chosen," Draco snapped.
"Draco, listen to me," Aubrey slowly started. "He trusts me too. Remember, I was his second-in-command. I was going to help him takeover the Wizarding World; the prophecy determined my fate. But I realized nothing good comes out of working with Him. He's an evil man that only cares about himself. Draco, he killed my parents. My birthparents," the brunette cried, tears streaking down her fragile face.
Draco's eyes filled with such regret, but it went back to anger. "Think about what your sister said, Draco. You're better than this," Dumbledore said.
"There are others. How?" Dumbledore persisted.
"The vanishing cabinet in the Room of Requirement. I've been mending it."
"Let me guess, it has a sister."
"A twin. In Borgin and Burkes. They form a passage," Draco explained.
"Ingenious," the headmaster softly praised.
"Draco, years ago, I knew a boy who made all the wrong choices. Please, let me and your sister help you," Dumbledore insisted, nodding over at Aubrey.
"Professor Dumbledore is talking about Voldemort-or Tom Riddle, as he was called back then. We can help you get out of this," Aubrey told him sincerely.
"I don't want you guys' help. I have to do this. I have to kill you. Or he's gonna kill me," Draco cried, his wand pointed at the headmaster, and his wand he disarmed from him.
At this point, the group of Death Eaters from down the stairs had came up. "Oh, look what we have here," Bellatrix's voice echoed through the tower. "Well done, Draco."
"Good evening, Bellatrix. I think introductions aren't over, don't you?" Dumbledore tightly smiled.
"Love to, Albus, but I'm afraid we're on a bit of a tight schedule," Bellatrix snarked.
"Do it!" Bellatrix hissed, pressuring her nephew.
"Draco, don't do it," Aubrey pleaded.
Bellatrix had kept pushing Draco to kill Dumbledore, until Greyback was going to do it. Snape had pushed his way through the crowd of Death Eaters, pushing Greyback's wand down.
"Severus. Please...," Dumbledore lightly ordered.
In one swift motion, Snape lifted his wand, speaking the Unforgivable Curse, a green light igniting from the tip of his wand. The light zapped right in the middle of Dumbledore's chest, as his body fell from the tower. Aubrey gasped in shock, yelling out in denial, sobbing uncontrollably. The Death Eaters screamed out in glee, as they ran out of the castle.
Harry had ran after Snape, hollering after the murderer. "Snape! He trusted you!"
Aubrey was pulled toward the Forbidden Forest by Draco, as she hysterically cried, watching Snape block off the attacks of Harry.
"Sectumsempra!" Harry hissed, as Snape blocked the spell, resulting in the boy to fall to the ground.
Snape came over to the raven-haired boy. "You dare use my own spell against me, Potter? Yes, I'm the Half-Blood Prince," Snape muttered ungratefully.
Snape had flicked his black robe, leaving the scene. Harry looked at Aubrey, as she trudged over toward him.
"Harry...I'm so sorry. Please, I'm not apart of this. I was only trying to stop Draco," Aubrey cried, trying to grab onto his hands.
His hands felt limp in hers. He didn't say anything, but didn't yank his hands away. That seemed like a good sign-well, sorta of a good sign to her.
"I love you, Harry Potter. And I didn't expect too, but I did," Aubrey stated, pecking the boy's lips tenderly.
"I-" Harry was cut off.
"Aubrey!" Draco called to the brunette.
"I'm going to have to go. I promise, I'm on your side," Aubrey truthfully told him.
"I believe you."
"I know Ron's brother Bill and Fleur Delcour are getting married this summer. I'll be there. I'll try to keep in contact with you, Hermione, and Ron throughout the summer. Maybe, I can send you guys updates," Aubrey hastily mentioned.
She slowly backed away from The Chosen One, giving him one last look.
She knew the end was near. Aubrey didn't know if she was going to survive-but she was going to fight like hell.
