"Hyung, why did you yell my name while showering?"
Jungkook choked on his food.
"I remember hearing you say my name," Taehyung said innocently.
"W-what? I don't know. Maybe you're just imagining it."
"No, hyung! I swear I hea—"
"Tae!"
Both of them turned toward the source of the well-known voice that interrupted their conversation.
There stood Jimin, smiling brightly while hiding something behind his back. He walked towards Taehyung, who simultaneously stood up from his seat at the dining table, leaving Jungkook alone. Jungkook intensely stared at both of them, anger visible in his eyes. This went unnoticed by the two friends, who were busy staring at each other.
"Good morning, Jiminie!" Taehyung greeted his best friend with a warm smile.
"Good morning to you too, Tae."
"What are you hiding from me?" Taehyung asked, slightly tilting his head in confusion.
"Oh! Close your eyes."
"Okay?"
"Look! Tadaaah~"
As soon as he opened his eyes, he saw a bouquet of beautiful flowers in front of his face. He smiled widely, taking the flowers from his best friend.
"They’re so beautiful! Thank you, but why are you giving me these?"
"Because it’s New Year, dummy! Happy New Year, Tae!"
"Oh my god! That totally slipped my mind. I’m so sorry, Jiminie, I don’t have any gifts for you," Taehyung said, frowning at the thought.
"It’s okay, Tae. I have you. That’s enough," Jimin said, hugging the younger.
"Do you know about these flowers?"
"...no."
"These are white carnations. They signify pure love. Nothing is as pure as the color white, which is why white carnations also signify purity and innocence, sweetness, and loveliness."
"Wow, you’re so intelligent, Jiminie! Thank you so much!" Taehyung giggled.
"You’re welcome, Tae," Jimin replied with love and adoration in his eyes, which went unnoticed by Taehyung, who was busy admiring the flowers. However, it was noticed by someone else, whose eyes threw daggers at Jimin.
Jungkook stood up from his seat, leaving the scene without finishing his breakfast, ignoring both of them.
---
It was around lunchtime, and the elder hadn’t returned home yet. Taehyung was eagerly waiting for him, confused by Jungkook’s sudden change in mood.
He felt sad and alone—again.
He lay down on the couch, hugging a pillow. Tears slowly dripped down his cheeks as the thought of Jungkook leaving him alone made him feel sad. Soon, he fell asleep, exhausted from crying.
---
Taehyung woke up to the feeling of someone’s hand caressing his face. He slowly opened his eyes, only to be met with Jungkook, who looked startled when the younger suddenly woke up.
He quickly retracted his hand and smiled, helping him sit up on the couch. Taehyung yawned and rubbed his eyes, stretching his limbs to relax them.
"Why did you sleep on the couch? Did you have your lunch?" the elder asked with concern.
"N-no. I w-was waiting for you!" Taehyung blurted out, blushing.
Jungkook was taken aback but smiled, stroking the younger’s soft hair.
"I’m really sorry, baby. Will you forgive hyung?"
"Of course, hyung! But don’t leave me alone next time. At least tell me what was bothering you instead of leaving me alone."
"Again, I apologize. But I have a surprise for you."
"Really?!" Taehyung stood up in excitement.
"Yes, and it’s upstairs. In our room."
Taehyung turned around and was about to dash to their room, but Jungkook stopped him with a back hug, his arms circling around Taehyung’s waist, breath fanning on his ear.
"It’s a surprise, baby. You have to put this on first." He held a blindfold in front of Taehyung’s face.
Before Taehyung could react, Jungkook quickly put on the blindfold.
"H-hyung!"
"Ssh. Hyung will carry you upstairs."
Without waiting for a reply, Jungkook picked Taehyung up bridal-style and carried him to their room.
Jungkook set him down when they reached the room. Taehyung quickly took off the blindfold and gasped at the room’s transformation.
The walls were decorated with fairy lights, with each side adorned with different types of flowers.
"Wow. It’s so beautiful," Taehyung thought.
"Do you know what they mean?" Jungkook asked.
"Huh?... No."
"Let me tell you," Jungkook said, grabbing Taehyung’s hand. They began walking around the room.
"These are forget-me-nots. They symbolize true love. As the name suggests, they are given with the hope that the recipient will never forget the giver. They also symbolize faithful love and memories."
Don’t forget me.
"These are primroses, which symbolize youth and the sentiment of not being able to live without a partner, often associated with young love."
I can’t live without you.
"These are red camellias. Red camellias symbolize passion or desire."
I want you.
"And lastly, spider flowers. They signify true love. It means, ‘come elope with me.’"
Run away with me.
Taehyung listened intently, captivated by the elder’s knowledge.
"Wow, hyung. They’re so pretty."
"Just like you."
"T-thanks."
"Did you like them, baby?"
"Hyung, how could I not? They look so beautiful, and the fairy lights… Thank you so much, hyung! You’re the best!" Taehyung beamed, hugging Jungkook.
"Let’s have dinner, Tae. You didn’t have lunch today, and I don’t want you to lose weight, baby."
"O-okay."
I won’t lose to you, Jimin. You can’t take Taehyung away from me. I’ll do anything to keep him with me.
