❝ WHAT IF HE DOESN'T LIKE
ME BACK? ❞

FRIDAY MORNING, the early morning sun slipped through the curtains, bringing stunning yellow rays across the room. reina slowly stirred awake, waking up from a dreamless sleep - one of the best sleeps she's had in ages.

she yawned and rubbed her eyes. however, just as she was about to get up, she felt a weight around her - and was my pillow always this stiff?

fully processing what was happening, her eyes widened. of course, she and connor always had sleepovers, and she always slept in his bed when they did. he quite literally had a drawer filled with her fluffy blankets whenever she did.

sleeping over at his house wasn't what surprised her - no, it was the fact that they were literally cuddling, and she could feel their legs muddled up together. he had his arm loosely around her waist whilst she previously had her hand rested on his chest.

to make things worse, she changed from her long sleeved fitted shirt to a loose oversized one last night. the problem? her shirt lifted up a little during her sleep, and connor's hand rested on her bare back, due to him bringing her closer throughout the night.

her face heated up, and she was internally screaming her head off. here's a little insight:

she don't know how they ended up like this. up until this point, they never cuddled and always kept their space - sure, when they were little they held hands to sleep, but that was different. way different.

deep down, she wanted to stay close to him and sleep some more, but she was too flustered and panicked. trying to keep it together, she quietly and carefully got out of bed, replacing herself with a pillow. she grabbed her charging phone and checked the time: 7:33 am.

she let out a sigh of relief, knowing they had time to get ready for school that started at 8:30. she unplugged her phone and headed to the bathroom, immediately splashing her face with cold water.

she thought that by doing so, it would snap her out of whatever flustered mess she was in. unfortunately, she couldn't get it out of her head.

she's never experienced this feeling before, not even with the name-we-do-not-speak-of, no matter how much she thought she did. no amount of compliments from his stinky mouth was able to make her react this way - not like how connor did.

she immediately dialled 911 - by that, she dialled the first person she saw in her contact list.

after three rings, the older girl picked up, and reina made sure she was off speaker. "hey rei, what's up?"

"morning, rei!" she heard bailey in the background. it was known that bailey went over to benj's house most mornings to go to school with alyssa.

"code red, i just slept over at connor's and-"

"you guys did it?!" alyssa yelled in surprise, and she heard bailey's added shouts of disbelief.

"fuck no! what the hell? absolutely not, what is wrong with you?!" reina whisper shouted, a hand on her forehead as she paced.

"well maybe next time don't start with 'code red' and then tell us you slept over at connor's!" she exclaimed.

"okay fine, sorry, but we're not that dumb! anyways, i slept over and i woke up to us fucking cuddling! he had his arm around me n shit, and we were so close!" she continued to whisper-shout, hoping that if connor was awake, he wouldn't hear her properly.

"awww," alyssa and bailey chorused. "wait does that mean you guys finally made up?"

she bit down on her lip from smiling. "not aw, ew! we've never cuddled before! and yes, we did yesterday, that's why i slept over. i came here and we talked things out."

"don't act like you didn't love it!" bailey teased.

"i didn't i was just shocked-"

"it's too early for your bullshit," alyssa groaned.

"i'm not-"

"rei?"

reina froze, hearing connor's voice from the other side of the door. judging by the silence on the other end of the call, the two girls heard him too. she cleared her throat, "yeah, con?"

"my mom made us breakfast for whenever you're ready," he said.

"oh, okay, i'll be done in a minute!" she lied, knowing she needed at least fifteen minutes to get ready.

after that, she heard the two girl's giggles from her phone. "sorry rei, we gotta go. but come find us at lunch later," she said.

"alright, i will. see you later," reina replied before ending the call. she sighed, splashing her face with cold water once again.

REINA CONSIDERED CONNOR lucky for not knowing the two cuddled last night. for the most part, she kept her cool around him, acting like nothing happened.

that was, up until lunch, where she sat with alyssa and bailey in the cafeteria. the two girls immediately bombarded her with questions, and reina quickly explained what had happened yesterday.

when she recited the events and got to the cuddling situation, she couldn't help but feel nervous all over again as she replayed the memory in her head.

"i seriously don't know how it happened, and i hate how i didn't actually hate it at all," she groaned, covering her face in embarrassment. "makes me sick to my stomach..."

reina crossed her arms and leaned them on the table, looking outside the window. "i hate how i thought he looked kinda cute when he slept peacefully, and - and i love sunrises, and the way the sun shined on him..i don't fucking know.." she muttered the last part.

the two girls looked at her knowingly. bailey put a hand on reina's shoulder, getting her attention. "you know, it sounds a lot like you like him as more than a friend."

reina furrowed her brows, looking at alyssa who nodded. "it's so obvious, rei. you literally called him cute, you guys cuddled and you liked it, and he's your best friend."

"okay but what if i'm ruining our friendship by liking him? what if he doesn't like me back?" she frowned, not even in the mood to deny it anymore.

"no way!" bailey gasped. "i mean we knew, everyone knew, but it's about time you admitted it."

"and anyway, he likes you back for sure. he'd be dumb as fuck if he didn't." alyssa shrugged, scrolling on her phone.

reina sighed. "i don't know.."

"he definitely likes you, rei. you guys are coming to kayvon's party tonight right?" bailey asked.

"yeah, why?"

she grinned. "that's your chance!"

reina immediately shook her head. "nope, nuh uh, no fucking chance. i'm just starting to accept i have feelings for him and you want me to make a move tonight? that's funny," she laughed.

bailey rolled her eyes. "c'mon rei, woman up! alyssa and i will be there with you if anything. right, alyssa?"

the two girls turned to the other across from them, who was busy staring at her phone in annoyance.

"what are you looking at?"

"nicole's instagram. i can't believe she dumped me for this basic bitch," she complained.

bailey shrugged. "she's actually pretty nice."

"sorry, didn't realise you guys were like scissor sisters." alyssa retorted.

"i'm just saying, i mean-"

"okay be honest, is everyone talking about my nose?" she asked the two.

bailey and reina looked at each other before shaking their heads. "um, no one's said anything to me."

"i've heard some people liking it," reina informed, not specifying that it was either positive or negative.

"oh really? good that they've noticed. i can feel the attention." she looked around.

"damn, alyssa! you're looking good," koosh said as he approached their table along with benj.

"don't look at me," she said, going back on her phone.

"hear about my party tonight?"

"i heard about your brother's party?"

he lightly scoffed. "it's both of ours. hey, why don't you take my snap in case you have any trouble at the door?"

she rolled her eyes. "i feel like i'm done with this conversation."

bailey quietly laughed whilst reina grinned in amusement.

"seriously, you should come. it'd be cool to hang since were all in high school," benj said to bailey.

"yeah, maybe," she smiled.

"right on, right on, very nice.." benj trailed off.

him and koosh then stood there awkwardly, holding their lunch trays. after a moment, reina started laughing at the same time alyssa spoke. "get lost, or i'll tell bailey you don't have pubes!"

"i have pubes!"

"gross," bailey grimaced.

reina continued to laugh freely. this is too entertaining.

"should've threatened him with the poster incident-"

"anyway! i uh, hope to see you later," benj interrupted her harshly, giving bailey a quick smile. "rei, you coming?"

she snickered. "no, but you did when-"

"okay! um, maybe you should go with them," bailey smiled awkwardly, letting reina out of the booth. "text us later."

reina nodded before getting dragged away by benj.

exiting the cafeteria, benj lightly flicked the side of reina's head. "hey!" she groaned.

"we promised to never speak of that again!" benj rolled his eyes.

"bro i wasn't actually going to tell her - it's too embarrassing and disgusting to say, even for me," she shook her head, linking arms with him. "and pinky promises are sacred. i don't break that shit, like, ever."

koosh furrowed his brows. "what's the poster incident?"

"nothing," they both replied quickly.
