❝ CONNOR WHO? ❞

THE FIVE FRIENDS all walked into the main outside cafeteria place inside the school, deciding to check it out and know their way around. surprisingly on the way there, lots of people in their grade greeted reina as she walked past. she didn't know what to make of the sudden attention.

just as the five entered the outside area, they heard voices from up above.

"hey, you! little man."

they all stopped and looked up to see two seniors stood by the balcony, pointing at connor.

"me?"

"bro, how old are you?" one of them asked.

"i'm fifteen," he replied.

"fuck off," the other said in disbelief. "months or years?"

"bro, you are crazy-looking. your name is 'fetus' now."

connor shook his head. "oh, uh, i don't - i don't know about that."

"i do. later, fetus." the two boys mockingly waved them goodbye.

connor looked at his friends and sighed, walking off. the rest followed until they got further away from the two seniors.

once they were out of earshot, reina let out a huge laugh for what felt like the tenth time that morning. she nudged connor with a grin, "ha! he called you fucking fetus!"

"fuck!" he cursed. "game over, i'm fetus for the next four years! i'm the oldest person in our grade, and i look like fucking thumbelina!"

"to be fair, she was adorable," eddie said.

"see, con, you're adorable," reina teased, earning a light shove from him.

"woah." benj abruptly stopped, putting his arms out to stop his friends too.

they all turned their attention to a blonde girl in the distance, posing and smiling with her phone out. reina stared in awe, knowing it was katrina aurienna, the coolest girl at school.

"what the fuck is that?" connor gaped.

"you mean who, right?" reina said from beside him.

"that's katrina aurienna," koosh answered. "dopest chick in school, half a million followers. max solen's brother cheated on her, and she iced him out so bad, he had to transfer schools!"

reina grinned. "as she should."

eddie shook his head. "i'm not ready for something like that."

"i am," connor said. reina glanced back and forth between katrina and connor as he stared at her. she couldn't blame him - katrina was gorgeous, and she couldn't help but envy her looks a little bit.

"she'll be at my party," koosh smiled.

"your brother's party."

"fuck off, eddie, it's mine too."

then, the bell rang, signifying class for most people. reina continued to look between her best friend and katrina, a foreign feeling in her stomach.

"okay well, see you guys later, i'm going to class," benj said, patting connor and eddie's backs before leaving. the three boys just continued to stare, only nodding as a way of saying goodbye.

it wasn't until benj put a hand on reina's shoulder that she snapped out of it. "c'mon, i checked and we have chem class together."

"huh? oh, yeah, let's go," she nodded before lightly hitting connor's arm. "later, fetus."

"not you too!" he groaned, holding his upper arm.

reina chuckled, quickly joining benj's side as they made their way to class.

after a short silence, because reina slightly zoned out once more, benj spoke up. "trouble in paradise?"

reina looked up at him, huffing out a laugh. "what do you mean?"

"okay, cut the oblivious shit, you looked like a kicked puppy back there when connor was staring at katrina."

"nah, you're seeing things benj," she denied.

he raised his brows at her. "really? because i could've sworn i saw a bit of jealousy over there."

reina scoffed. "why would i be jealous?"

he shrugged. "you tell me, rei."

"well there's nothing to tell you. i wasn't jealous, there's no reason to be," she lied. she knew too well that she was, in fact, a little jealous.

benj sighed. "except, there is a reason, and you were."

"benj-"

"come on, rei, i get it - i do, i mean, how you looked back there is how i look whenever bailey talks to other guys, especially this one guy called kyle in her homeroom."

reina sent him a weird look. "seriously, you gotta tone the stalking down."

"whatever, listen, i'm just saying that i know how you feel. and i've known you since pre-k, so wether you admit it or not, you were jealous."

the two walked down the hallway in silence whilst reina processed his words. she fiddled with her friendship bracelet, and her brows tugged together in thought.

when they made it to their chemistry class, reina stopped just a little ways before the door. when benj realised, he walked back towards her in equal concern and confusion.

"i don't want to be jealous, though. why was i?" she asked timidly, catching benj completely off guard.

he had to physically refrain himself from telling her that it was the first sign of her developing feelings for her best friend. it was the first day, and she didn't deserve the stress of new, complicated feelings arising.

he frowned, giving her a quick hug. "it's okay if you were. i know this shit is confusing, and things are changing, but i'm always here to help you figure it out."

reina nodded against his shoulder, taking a deep breath in and out. "thanks benj," she then pulled away from the hug. "but i don't wanna talk about it just yet. too much feelings for the first day. yuck."

benj shrugged with a smile. "connor who?"

reina laughed as the two entered the classroom which had students filing in and taking their seats. luckily, reina and benj managed to get two seats next to each other.

reina was beyond grateful she had benj in her first class, hoping she had more with him and her friends. "first class of high school," she grinned.

"we got this," benj replied, and the two fist bumped.

"all right, people, let's get after it." the teacher walked in, clapping to get everyone's attention. "i'm mr. studebaker. welcome to intro to chem. chem, short for chemistry. intro, short for introduction. if i've lost you already, we'll, then you're fucked."

the class all laughed. reina turned to benj and whispered, "didn't he work for mr stacks?"

benj was about to reply, until mr studebaker pointed at him. "my dude, tell me your name."

benj smiled awkwardly at him. "benj."

"benj? with a J? all right, well, hit the J, bro. let 'em know."

reina covered her giggles with her hand.

"can you tell me what the chemical formula for water is, benj?" mr studebaker asked, picking up benj's water bottle.

"H2O."

"whoa! genius alert!"

benj and reina looked at each other in amusement.

"can anybody tell me what would happen if i took some of this H2O, and mixed it with hydrogen peroxide and some garden-variety dish soap? anybody? no? i guess we're just gonna have to find out - look out!"

he ducked, but nothing happened. but after he added potassium iodide, foam suddenly erupted, shooting out of the glass. everyone gazed and yelled in surprise.

"all right, listen, all i ask is that you be on time, be engaged, and if the entire class can maintain a B average, i'll teach you how to make a nuclear bomb - i'm kidding. but i will teach you how to make a drano bomb. that way you can blow up mailboxes and, you know, shit like that."

benj looked over at reina anxiously, knowing her tendencies to get into trouble. reina was practically buzzing in her seat at the mention of making bombs, especially ones she can use to blow stuff up. it was like giving bomb codes to a baby. "ah shit," he mumbled.

halfway through class, reina was in the middle of taking notes, when suddenly a crumpled piece of paper landed on her desk. she looked around, her eyes landing on a boy sat to her left.

she knew him as dylan reeves; he was a chill guy, but she only ever spoke to him once or twice for homework reasons back in middle school, so she didn't really have an opinion on him. what could he possibly want?

confused, she opened the crumpled paper as quietly as she could.

her jaw dropped slightly. she looked back at him, only to see him already looking at her with a smile. she felt her cheeks warm up as she returned the gesture, mouthing a 'thank you' to him. just then, the thoughts that clouded her mind about her jealousy earlier were gone. it also helped that dylan wasn't too bad looking, either, with his fluffy brown hair, tan skin, and cute smile.

benj, who happened to have caught the whole exchange, looked between them with narrowed eyes. it only changed when reina turned to him with a bright smile, showing him what the crumpled paper said.

he sent her a fake shocked expression, raising his brows with a grin. "wow. you know, connor won't be too happy about that," he teased.

reina playfully rolled her eyes before shrugging. "connor who?" she whispered back.

benj smiled and nodded in realisation. just as reina pocketed the note and focused back on the teacher, his smile disappeared in less than a second, glancing over at dylan who was watching reina with a cheesy smile.

he wanted to gag.
