Music filled every inch of the Milano to break the silence as Peter flew his prized ship toward Morag. Primrose sat upside down in the co-pilot's chair with her nose in a book, something the elder of the two never understood. The Quill woman tapped her feet along with the song she'd heard so many times that she got bored trying to keep count. The two would talk about random topics here and there but the Terrans preferred to keep their mouths shut. They found comfort in Peter's music and Primrose's toe-tapping as they flew through space. It made their little adventures a lot more enjoyable, especially since their voyages were the only time Primrose didn't feel Yondu breathing down her neck.
When the pair finally arrived at their destination, Peter grabbed everything he needed before leaving to get the item they were sent to find. Just like every other time they've flown together, Primrose stayed back on the Milano to start the engine in case things went south, which happened a lot more than one would expect. The brunette woman happily sat in the cockpit with The Outsiders in her hand while her foot continued to tap against the headrest. Even though she wasn't as invested in music as her older brother, she wouldn't have minded a little background sound to fill the stillness of their ship. Ever since she was a kid back on Earth, a room without noise made her feel antsy and uncomfortable.
Just as she turned to the last chapter of the book that she'd read about fifty times, the familiar sound of ships breaking through the atmosphere cut through the air. The Quill woman's entire body froze while confusion filled her veins. It wasn't long after that when Primrose placed her bookmark between the pages of her story and slammed it shut. After placing her book on the chair next to her, she looked out the window above her to see two vessels flying through the sky in the direction where Peter disappeared. A small wave of panic washed over the Quill woman while she kept her eyes glued to the alien spacecrafts. She continued to watch them until they vanished behind a large boulder in the distance.
"Hey, Pete. You got company headed your way. You need to get back here before I take off without you," Primrose said into the communicator tucked in her ear. Not even a second after that passed when she slid off her chair and made her way further into the Milano after seeing five aliens with blasters head toward their ship. Irritation replaced the concern that was flowing through her when her brother didn't respond right away before a long sigh passed over her lips. "And now they're guarding the Milano. Can you even hear me? Or did you turn off your comm again?"
"I hear you loud and clear, Rosie. And that threat doesn't work anymore. You've used it too many times without following through," her brother replied with amusement in his voice before letting out a loud laugh, "I'm just finishing up here and then...sh*t."
Before she could say another word to her brother, she was greeted by the sound of his earpiece turning off. The irritation flowing through Primrose's veins increased as she muttered a few words about her brother under her breath. Once she managed to calm herself down, the brunette woman peeked out the window once again to see the guards talking amongst themselves. It was as if their actions were the most normal thing in the world.
Her eyes scanned over the colorful buttons and shining levers at the front of the Milano as she contemplated actually leaving Peter this time. But her thoughts were soon interrupted by the sound of blaster fire. Primrose's attention turned in the direction of the noise to find those who guarding the Quill sibling's ship firing at something in the distance. When she followed their aim, she found the familiar glowing red eyes of her brother's helmet.
While they were preoccupied with Peter, the brunette woman crawled back into the cockpit and pressed the buttons to start the Milano. The roaring of the engine filled Primrose's ears as her eyes scanned over all the newly lit buttons. As soon as she knew she succeeded, the Quill woman turned her attention back out the window to see the guards stuck to the ground. Her eyes stayed glued to the pile of them for a moment before she reached up and opened the cockpit window to allow her brother access to the Milano.
The sound of Peter pushing buttons and pulling levers cut through the air as his sister pulled the window close. The clicking of the lock was instantly followed by shouting, making Primrose become a statue. The brunette girl turned her attention back to the five aliens to see them now free from the rocky surface. It wasn't long after that when another one of them appeared and set up a cannon on one of the nearby rocks.
"You need to get us out of here right now, Peter!" Primrose shouted as she sat back down in her designated seat and gripped her armrests so tight that her knuckles turned a ghostly white.
"I'm trying!"
"Try harder!"
As soon as those two words left her mouth, the Milano began to ascend into the sky. To Primrose's dismay, it was at the same moment a the cannon was fired at them. A small yelp escaped the Quill woman when Peter quickly turned the ship to avoid the hit before he sped through the air to escape their pursuers. The older Quill's laughter filled the air while his sister stayed completely silent. Peter soared through the sky and away from the six people that were shooting at them. Just as Primrose was beginning to think her brother actually managed his first successful escape, a geyser shot up a stream of water and hit the underbelly of the Milano, sending them high into the air. Panic coursed through the younger Quill's veins while her eyes were sealed shut as they freefell toward the ground. The force caused Peter to hit the glass above him due to him not strapping himself in before he was sent toward the back of the ship.
While her brother was tossed about the cabin, Primrose reached forward and pulled on the lever to start the engine before they crashed into the stone planet. Both siblings let out relieved sighs as soon as the ship was leveled out while they sat and took in everything that just happened. Due to their shocked states, the Quills were completely unaware of the woman climbing up the ladder at the back of the ship until she called out Peter's name. Primrose and Peter both jumped at the sound of the new voice before turning their attention toward the Krylorian.
"What happened?" Bereet asked through her heavy breaths as her yellow eyes looked between the two Terrans in front of her.
"Hey, uh...uh...I..." Peter snapped his fingers as he struggled to remember the Krylorian woman's name, receiving annoyed looks from the two women on the ship.
Primrose watched her brother embarrass himself for a moment longer before finally deciding to help him out. "Bereet."
"Bereet!" the Quill man exclaimed as if he had a mental breakthrough before sending the blonde-haired woman a small smile, "look, I'm gonna be totally honest with you. I forgot you're here."
"It's times like this that make me embarrassed to be related to you," Primrose scoffed while rubbing her hands down the sides of her face, causing her brother to send her an offended look while the Krylorian sent the same look Peter's way.
As the Milano piloted them away from the Morag, Peter made his way back to where Primrose and Bareet sat after putting his cassette back into his stereo. The Quill man turned on the news to see what was going on in the galaxy while his sister completely ignored the noise as she laid back with her feet on the table reading her book. However, the peace that settled among the trio was soon interrupted by a quiet beeping sound. Primrose instantly looked away from her story and toward the small screen in front of the Krylorian woman. Her blood ran cold at the sight of the familiar face of Yondu staring straight back at her. Before she could even open her mouth to tell Peter, Bareet beat her to it.
"Peter, you have a call."
"No, wait, don't!" the man responded right as the blonde-haired woman pressed the button to take the call.
"Quill?!" the leader of the Ravagers called out to the red-headed man, who was still staring at the pink woman with an annoyed look on his face.
While Bareet sent her brother an apologetic look, Primrose placed her book on the table and sat up as straight as possible. She and Peter exchanged a somewhat panicked look before the latter slowly turned to face the music.
"Hey, Yondu," the eldest Quill greeted the blue man while his sister tried to hide all the emotions that were swimming around in her head.
"I'm here on Morag. Ain't no Orb, ain't no Rose, ain't no you."
"Well, we were in the neighborhood. I thought we'd save you the hassle," Peter responded while Primrose continued to watch and listen to their exchange in her usual silence.
"Well, where are the two of you at now?" Yondu questioned in a tone the youngest Quill was far too familiar with.
Peter instantly glanced back at his little sister before the two of them had a silent conversation. This was something they had done more and more over the years and also something that drove the leader of the Ravagers crazy. Once the Quill siblings finished their silent discussion, Peter turned his attention back to Yondu and let out a small sigh. "I feel really bad about this, but we're not gonna tell you that."
"I slaved putting this deal together! And now the two of you're gonna rip me off!" the blue man shouted, causing Primrose to roll her eyes at the man as she leaned back in her seat.
"'Slaved'?" she scoffed, drawing Yondu's attention to her for the first time since their call started, "having me make a few calls is 'slaved'? I mean, really? If anything, this is really my deal."
"We do not do that to each other. We're Ravagers. We gotta code," the Undota man retaliated, making the younger Quill scoff once again as she crossed her arms over her chest.
"Yeah, and that code is 'steal from everybody,'" Peter said before Primrose could while Bareet continued to awkwardly sit on the other side of the table.
"When I picked you two up on Terra, these boys of mine wanted to eat you both. They ain't never tasted any Terran before. I stopped them," Yondu began his familiar rant, earning an eye roll from the brunette woman while her brother mocked the man on the screen, "you're both alive because of me! I will find you, I will-"
The leader of the Ravagers was interrupted by Primrose reaching across the table and ending the call. Peter just stared at the black screen for a long moment before turning around to face his sister. A smirk appeared on his face as he watched her grab her book from the table and get back into her previous position to continue reading. The grin on his face never faded as Peter sat down on the bench on the other side of the table and snatched the book out of his sister's hands. As soon as he had her full attention on him, the red-headed man let out a small chuckle while holding her story just out of her reach. "Now he's gonna be even more upset with us thanks to you."
Primrose let out a groan as leaned forward and grabbed her book back from him before opening it back up to where she left off. "I'm not too worried. Yondu never liked me much anyway."
