The waves below the cliff top crashed against each other and the rocks violently, leaving nothing but air bubbles and foam in its wake. The current didn't exactly look gentle or calm from the windy weather that was approaching and the storm that was rolling in soon. If anything, it made Lilith gulp and her heart race with nerves.
"Do we really need to do this?" Lilith asked as she stood at the edge of the cliff, looking down nervously at it. Stupid Bella and her stupid ideas.
"It'll be therapeutic." Bella responded as she took her jacket off, "Jake and I saw the pack do it a few months ago, I think it'll be fun." Bella and Jake had thankfully rekindled after the Paul incident and everything was slowly going back to normal. Afterwards, Bella and Lilith even had a discussion and lilith explained how she wanted to tell her about the pack for the longest time, but, she couldn't. Obviously, Bella forgave her because she knew it wasn't her secret to tell.
Bella was still trying to wrap her mind around the fact that Jacob was a werewolf and that she was his imprint; her life had gotten so complicated yet so wonderful ever since she moved to Forks. Saying the words 'the pack' sounded so foreign and strange to her knowing that a year ago she had no idea any of these things existed.
"Bella, I'm not an adrenaline junkie like you." She reminded her as she peaked over the edge seeing the waves crashing against the rocks angrily, "And the current looks really strong."
"If you want we can do something else." The brunette suggested, "We can face our fears another way."
Bella was grateful that Lilith was slowly coming out of her depressive phase and was starting to lose the shell that hid her normal self, and she felt if she did something crazy and courageous that didn't include trying to sacrifice herself for her friends, maybe she would be back to normal and see that everything around her was still normal and good. Lilith shook her head, she wasn't scared of heights but she was scared of possibly drowning from being too weak to swim or accidentally knocking her head against the rocks underwater because the current was too strong for her to handle. "No, I want to do it... but, can't we jump from lower down?"
Bella's eyebrows raised, "You want to take the easy way out?" She asked, lazily shrugging, "Okay."
The witch puffed as she took her jacket and shoes off, glaring at her friend slightly, "You and Jake deserve each other. This is peer pressure, you know?" She grumbled, "We talked about this in school; about how you never give in to it."
"Yeah when it comes to drugs and alcohol." Bella snorted, "This is cliff diving."
"And I'll probably be cliff dying trying to keep up with your adrenaline junkie ways." She retorted, causing Bella to snort at her lame attempt of a joke. Lilith peeked back over the cliff edge and whimpered, "Yep, I'm definitely going to die."
"How about we jump together?" The human girl suggested, "It won't be as scary that way."
Lilith's eyebrows raised at her, "Well, I guess it's better than me fearing that you won't jump at all and just make me do it by myself." Bella made a face at her in response for how Lilith seemed to think that Bella would just leave her to jump by herself when it was her idea, "Hey, don't make that face, if I go down, you're coming with me."
The brunette held out her hand and Lilith gripped onto it, the two of them walking towards the cliff's edge looking down at the water below. Where they stood was about twenty feet which made Lilith's heart feel like it was about to burst out of her chest in fear, knowing the feeling of her stomach dropping was going to be felt when she's on the way down, but even the drop wasn't the most terrifying part—it was having to beat the current after.
"Ready?" Bella asked her, even Lilith could hear the slight nervous tone in her voice due to Bella feeling the fear of jumping now also. Lilith only slowly nodded, not wanting to say anything more in case she either chickens out or scares Bella out of it also, "Good, because there's something else you should know."
Lilith's eyebrows furrowed, "What is it?" She better not say that the water was shark infested otherwise she would definitely not jump, she didn't care how much of an adrenaline rush it would cause, sharks were a big no no for Lilith.
"Victoria's been making appearances in town." Bella confessed, jumping off of the cliff and dragging Lilith down with her before she could even react from the news.
Lilith let out a loud shriek as the two girls plummeted towards the water, the fall only lasting a few seconds before they crashed into the cold water. The two were tumbling around before they made their way up to the surface with a loud gasp.
"Oh, my God." Lilith let out, "We did it!" She said excitedly as she paddled to keep herself afloat. Lilith then splashed the girl with the salty water, "And that's for telling me that news at such a crappy time." Victoria was someone that Lilith hadn't thought about in a while, she thought she had left her alone since Edward was no longer with her and since Laurent wasn't able to report back to her, but, with the news that Bella had just given her; it seemed that she was very wrong.
"That was amazing!" Bella said back, spitting out the sea water that had made its way into her mouth, her teeth slightly chattering from the temperature, "Jake only told me recently as well, she's the reason he phased and what the meetings have been about. She's been the one causing the killings and the pack are trying to handle the situation before anyone else gets killed."
Lilith opened her mouth to speak when she turned her head slightly, seeing the huge wave coming their way, "Bella, look out!" She shouted and quickly pointed at the wave, causing Bella to spot it also before the water came crashing onto them, shoving them under the water and tumble around the forcefulness of the current with their limbs flailing about. Lilith was even sure that Bella had accidentally kicked her in the face during it, but, she couldn't blame her, she couldn't see where the hell they were swimming either from all the water bubbles and debris.
The two girls made their way back up to the surface with another loud gasp, the moment short as another wave smacked them from behind, causing them to be pushed back underneath again.
Lilith began to swim upwards to the surface with Bella, the girl stopping when her eyes spotted something in the distance, her eyes squinting trying to focus on it, her heart stopping when she noticed the distinct red hair coming towards her.
Victoria.
She wasn't sure if it was an illusion or if it was really her, she couldn't take any chances when it came to her and she was unprotected; and she had Bella with her. She knew her chances of her magic actually working was slim considering the last few times she had tried to use it—it didn't work and it hurt her—but, even if there was a small chance, she was going to take it. Bella needed to be protected. The urge to protect the both of them so strong that she shot her arm backwards and then pushed a surge of power towards the red headed vampire, sending her flying backwards into the rocks beyond her, her head hitting it forcefully.
Bella looked around seeing her friend had not come up, her eyes peeking down seeing the blonde girl sinking down rather than swimming and her instincts got the better of her as she took in a deep breath and dived in, using the cliff to push her further towards Lilith and much quicker.
Bella reached her, grabbing her arm and beginning to pull her up to the top as Jacob reached them also from the top of the cliff. He had felt that something was wrong with his imprint and his own instinct took control and lead him to the cliff where he saw Bella and Lilith get smacked underneath the waves and only Bella coming up to the top.
Bella tried to pull her up and Jacob began to pull the both of them to shore, "I'm fine! I can swim!" Bella snapped at him trying to get him to focus on Lilith more rather than her as she was completely fine and Lilith wasn't.
Jacob growled lightly at her for doing such a reckless thing as the both of them began to swim towards the shore while Jacob tried to get Lilith to breathe and keep her head above water.
When they finally reached the shoreline, the shapeshifter carried her onto the sand and laid her down before beginning CPR when he noticed she hasn't let out a breath, "What the hell were you two thinking? Do you know how dangerous that was?" Jacob asked Bella while pressing down on Lilith's chest, "You're lucky I happened to be on patrol nearby when I saw." Jacob shook his head at his imprint, knowing she got the idea of cliff diving from the day that they had tried out the motorbikes and she had seen the pack jump from the top. It was fine for the wolves since they healed faster and they were stronger, but, jumping from that distance could have ended extremely badly for a human.
"It was fine!" Bella argued, "I think she saw something down there and freaked out. I saw a surge of light go across the water and I think she tried to use her magic when this happened."
"C'mon, breathe, Lil." Jacob muttered as he continued chest compressions. The boy had seen the amount of times that Lilith's magic wasn't working and the affects it had on her when she did attempt to use it, and he had realised the damage that was being caused to her because of it. He just couldn't believe she would try to use it once again while in such a dangerous situation.
It was another five seconds before the blonde witch began to cough up the water in her lungs, slowly opening her eyes as both Bella and Jacob let out a sigh of relief, "What happened?" She whispered, still in a slight daze.
"I think it's safe to say that cliff diving isn't our thing." Bella responded as she wiped the sand off of Lilith's face, glad that she was okay.
"Get her home! I'm gonna go help out over at Harry's place." They heard Sam call out from a distance before he began to run off.
"What happened at Harry's?" Bella asked as Lilith began to sit up.
"Harry Clearwater had a heart attack." Jacob answered and both girls let out a small gasp at the news. Harry had went with Charlie and the rest of the hunting men of Forks to try and track down the 'bears' that were hunting humans and to try and lead them away from the wolves when he was attacked by Victoria, "Charlie, Oliver and my dad are over at his place now with his family."
"Is he okay?" Bella asked, if Oliver was there it most likely meant that whatever happened, he would've been able to fix it with his magic.
"He's gone." Jacob responded again with a clenched jaw. He shook his head before helping the two girls stand up, "C'mon, let's get out something dry to wear and I'll take you guys home." He had helped Lilith towards the orange truck that was parked not too far away from the edge of the beach from Sam driving it towards there and he began to drive Lilith home before he would drop Bella off at her home.
The three talked about what had happened and Lilith tried to recall the moments before she had hit her head on the rocks, feeling like that had to of been something that caused her to react that way.
Jacob even explained to her about Victoria's visits to town and how because of her appearances so close to the pack, it caused some of the boys to phase as it was their spirit calling them to protect the people and Lilith explained to Jacob why Victoria was after her in the first place.
After that, the ride was a comfortable silence and the three friends felt content knowing that there was no more secrets between each other.
Lilith sat in Bella's car as they got to the driveway of Lilith's home, she thanked Jacob for driving her home and for saving her before opening the door. The shapeshifter smelt the air, "Wait!" He snapped and quickly reached for the door handle and closed the door, the blonde girl's head snapping towards him, "There's a vampire."
Jacob was now aware that the red headed vampire was making appearances in Forks because of Lilith and because she wanted to kill her, and being a shapeshifter made him very protective over his imprint's best friend. Wolves were always protective over witches as they gave them their gift, and being around one was to be blessed. There was no way he was going to let her to go and face the danger, especially when she was having trouble with her magic.
"How do you know?" Bella asked, making room for Lilith in the truck again.
The boy looked around as he started the truck back up, "I can smell it." He answered, biting back a growl and the urge to go in there, "I'm getting you guys out of here."
Lilith looked around, trying to spot the vampire when her eyes stopped on a sleek black car that was parked across the street from her home, recognising it almost instantly, "That's Carlisle's car." She notes before opening the door, "What the hell are they doing here?" She asked herself as she made her way out and towards the house to give him a piece of her mind.
"It's a trick, stop!" Jacob says as he tries to get her back in the car. If the Cullens were back, he wouldn't be able to protect her as it was their land—that was the treaty.
Lilith didn't listen as she continued on into her home, the lights completely off as she entered, her head scanning the room to see if she could spot anything before turning the lights on and jumping in fright seeing Alice standing directly next to her, even causing Alice to gasp lightly.
"Alice?" Lilith gasped.
"Lilith, oh, my God." Alice said relieved as she pulled the witch to her before pulling the blonde shoved her off lightly, "Would you like to explain to me how you're alive?" She snapped.
"What?" The witch couldn't help but ask.
"I saw a vision of you and Bella jumping off a cliff." Alice exclaimed, the blonde could tell she was quite furious at the situation, "Why would you do that?"
Lilith's walls were up the second she realised it was Alice standing there in her home, she couldn't help it. The Cullens had left her high and dry and without a word for months, and then they return only for them to try and parent her like she hadn't had to protect herself without them. Her eyes narrowed at Alice for her tone, "It was fun." She answered her, before trying to walk away, "And therapeutic."
Alice grabbed her arm, and brought the witch back to her, her eyes scanning over her, "What happened to you?" She asked, her golden eyes filled with worry and a small glint of fear.
"You left me." She responded, snatching her arm out of the vampire's grip. "That's what happened."
