The castle was more intimidating than she thought it would be. Lilith couldn't help but grip onto Edward's arm for comfort as she walked inside the large church like scene towards the Volturi, trying to ignore the feeling of utter dread that crossed her stomach from being there.
"Sister. I send you out to get one and you bring back two." One of the guards greeted Jane. He then looked at Lilith, sensing her lack of vampirism before adding, "And a half. Such a clever girl." He mused.
The Volturi member who sat in the middle stood up with his arms out, a wide smile spread across his face, "What a happy surprise!" He said, never taking his eyes off of Lilith as he began to walk towards them, "Lilith is alive after all. Isn't that wonderful?" The man, who Lilith soon recognised to be Aro, grabbed onto Edward's hands, and Lilith let out a small gasp and flinched away in fear when they accidentally touched, she had no idea of this man's intentions and how horrible he truly could be—it didn't matter that he seemed nice. He would have been on that throne for a reason. She wanted to be as far away from him as possible, "I love a happy ending." Aro announced as he looked in between Edward and Lilith, still holding onto the vampire's hands. "They are so... rare." Edward and Aro continued to make eye contact and Lilith couldn't help but observe Aro and watch his facial expressions change as he said, "Wow, she is quite talented... and brave. It's delightful to watch."
Edward looked back at Lilith explaining, "Aro can read every through I've ever had with one touch." He said making Lilith let out a small noise of recognition as she now understood what was happening. Edward then pulled pulled his hand away from the Volturi member, "And now you know everything. So, get on with it."
Aro gave Edward a half smirk, "You are quite the soul reader yourself, Edward. Though... you can only read Lilith's thoughts when she allows you to. Fascinating." Aro loved witches, he loved learning about them and he loved having them around, and he was delighted to have Lilith in his presence as maybe she could be an ally. He took a step back, keeping his eyes on Lilith. "I would love to see if... your abilities are an exception to my gifts, as well." He said holding his hand out to her, "Would you do me the honours?"
Lilith took a step towards him, knowing it wasn't a question that she would get to choose, she knew it was an order and she as no choice and she was smart enough to know not to argue with it. Edward tried to hold her back but a small glare from her stopped him as she continued to make her way towards Aro and place her hand in his. Aro let out a happy sigh as he covered her hand with his other and closed his eyes, the blonde witch opening parts of her mind up to him to show her the things that she believed were the only things that he needed to know. He didn't need to know about Bella and her knowledge of the supernatural or even the pack on the reservation.
His gift scanned her thoughts, seeing everything from Lilith and Edward's first encounter; the incident with Tyler's van and so on; Lilith didn't miss the look of admiration on his face as he went through those thoughts, seeing how happy the two used to be and every time she had used her magic. The smile dropped slightly when he finally got to the night that Edward left and it was replaced with a look of surprise when he witnessed the consequences of Lilith's heartbreak and what had happened around her constantly.
Aro pulls his hands away from hers, his eyes still wide. "Interesting." He mutters to himself, "Your powers are quite extraordinary, Lilith. How did you get so powerful while you were so young?"
Lilith shrugged lightly, "It's a hereditary thing." She answered, "My parents are quite a powerful pair."
"Ah, a legacy. How... bewitching." Aro grinned at himself for his small pun, putting his hands together. "However, it is a shame that you lost these powers." He says with pity.
Lilith looked at Edward with a small glare before responding, "Yes, it is a shame." Edward could only look down at his feet, feeling as if he was the reason why for what had happened to her.
Edward's eyes went dark as Aro's next thoughts crossed his mind, "If I may, I would like to help you, Lilith." He proposed, "You could stay here and we could help you regain your powers and bring you to your full potential, you could be better than both of your parents combined."
"No." Edward growled as he lightly pushed her behind him and went to attack Aro.
Jane smirked as she simply said, "Pain." Causing Edward to freeze up and be completely paralysed as a wave of bone crushing pain rushed through him.
Lilith's eyes widened as she could practically feel his pain as she watched her ex boyfriend collapse to the ground, grunting. "Stop!" Lilith ordered with fear, walking to try and get to Edward but Jane's brother held her back, "Don't! Please stop!" She whimpered. Alice bent down to check on her adoptive brother while Lilith continued to beg, "Stop hurting him, please! Please! Just stop!" She struggled against Jane's brother, trying to get towards Edward while he writhed in pain on the marble ground.
With every whimper and every grunt that came out of Edward, Lilith could feel every emotion she felt for him rush back and cloud over every bit of anger and sadness she felt towards him—and the conversation back in that English class months ago crossed her mind; remembering how she promised that they would protect each other.
"Leave him alone!" Lilith finally snapped, shouting loud enough to let the band that was holding everything together completely snap and let everything go, her magic rushing back as she threw Jane's brother to the side along with Jane as well, freeing Edward from her gift.
The room was silent as the Volturi watched in astound at the witch who was looking at her own hands in shock, "Oh, my God." She panted. It worked. Her magic worked and there was no pain or anything that used to come with her using her magic. She had thought what Alice had said in her room about her magic being connected to Edward was just a lie or a stab in the dark, but now that she could see it for herself and she could see that it was true, she couldn't decide whether it made her resent Edward more for leaving or relieved that she had finally figured out what it was that was blocking her magic.
But, she couldn't help but feel both.
Aro suddenly laughed with glee and clapped at the scene that had just happened in front of him. "Astounding!" He commented, "It seems that your magic has chosen to connect itself towards Edward. Your souls have connected along with your magic. That is just beautiful."
Edward gulped lightly, Lilith was his mate—their souls were connected—and when he left her, it all made sense as to why she was so weakened and distraught. Their souls weren't supposed to be apart and when her magic connected its source to him, he tore it away from her making her not be able to use it without hurting her until now.
"But, what shall we do with it?" Caius, the other Volturi member questioned, "If we do not do something she could be a liability." Witches with loyalties only to themselves were too powerful or risky because the Volturi wouldn't be able to control her or her choices. They had to make sure her loyalties were with the vampires and wouldn't cause them any harm with her existence, otherwise they would have to get rid of her.
And Aro would hate to waste such potential.
Aro sighed, "That's true." He cocked his head to the side, "Felix." He called.
Edward's eyes widened as he flipped Lilith to the other side, the girl turning around to see the large guard who lead them towards the Volturi making his way towards Edward, who met him halfway and tackled him to the ground.
Alice took a step towards them to help her brother but was grabbed by one of the guards by her throat and held to the side while Felix kicked Edward off of him and sped nearby and grabbed him while he was still airborne and pinned him to the marble ground by his throat, cracking the floor and damaging Edward's exterior with a growl.
Felix stood up and faced Lilith, who gasped but held her hands out ready for him anyway, two flames lit up in them as the large vampire walked towards her.
Edward shot up and tackled the vampire once again, only for him to get thrown to the side by his robe, landing in the stone bench nearby. Felix rushed again towards Edward and punched through the bench, grabbing Edward by the throat once more and held him up as he gripped onto him, crushing his throat.
The two tumbled as they fought across the room, Edward getting the upper hand every now and again and putting up a good fight against someone who was almost twice his size, but, Felix was strong and large—even that is hard to beat when Edward just running on emotions and the need to protect Lilith. The two struggled to pin each other down, getting out from underneath them at the last second until Felix finally managed to get Edward by the throat again and flip him over and throw him onto the stairs right in front of the Volturi, the stairs immediately smashing underneath the vampire.
Lilith let out a gasp as Felix placed Edward up on his knees in front of Aro and grabbed him by the jaw, ready to tear his head off when Lilith yelled out, "No!" The girl raised her hand and Felix and the rest of the guards freeze, completely paralysed from the neck down, the vampires grunting as they tried to move but struggling to when they felt the extremity of her power.
Edward slipped out from Felix's grip before rushing in front of Lilith once more. "Get away from her." He growled out at Aro.
"I would never be a liability to you." Lilith swore, peeking her head out from behind Edward, "I don't like to use my power too much because of the affect it has on me, and I could never do something like that to anyone that I cared about. Please, just let us go and I swear to you that I will never cause any problems."
Aro sighed again as he looked back at Felix who was still paralysed, along with the rest of the guards, "This is a sadness. All that power will be going to waste." He wanted a witch on his side, he hadn't had one with them for a very long time as they aren't immortal like himself, and the witches are now very hard to find unless they want to be found as they can very easily blend in with the humans around them, "How can we know that we can trust your word?"
Aro rushed in front of Lilith, who gasped from being so close to her and froze when Alice yelled out, "Wait!" Aro looked at the vampire, "Lilith won't be a liability, in fact... she'll be one of us instead." The room looked at Alice, and even Lilith looked shocked as she confessed, "I've seen it."
Aro held out his hand and asked Alice to come towards him, she hesitantly walked over towards the Volturi member and took off her red leather glove and placed her hand in his, showing him the vision she had in Phoenix. Aro looked in wonder as he watched the vision of Edward and a golden-eyed-Lilith running through the forrest, barefoot while Lilith's skin sparkled when it hit the sunlight, the girl looking back at Edward and giggling, a large grin plastered on his face as he chased after her.
Aro gasped, "Mesmerising; to see what you have seen, before it has happened." He said to Alice, amazement flooded through him from how powerful the three of them were in front of him. The man turned to Lilith, "Your powers will make for an intriguing immortal." He stated for her, knowing that her gifts as a vampire could be anything due to her power that she has as a witch. He thought it would be a shame to give up such a gift that she has now, but, he was excited to see what happens beforehand to get her to become a vampire, "Go now. Make your preparations."
"Let us be done with this. Heidi will be here any minute." Marcus sighed from his chair, having not said a word for the entire visit until now, Lilith looked up at him and noticed the look of despair and sadness that covered his face. The vampire slowly stood as he gave them the smallest ghost smile, "Thank you for your visit."
"We will return the favour." Caius stated, staying seated, "I would advise that you follow through with your promises. We do not offer second chances."
Edward grabbed onto Lilith's hand and the girl didn't argue as he lead her out of the room with Alice following after them as Aro called out, "Goodbye, my young friends." He said and Lilith looked back to see the creepy grin on his face which caused her to instantly snap her head back towards the front.
One of the guards began to lead them out the way that they had come, seeing a group of tourists heading the way towards the Volturi, "Nice fishing, Heidi." He complimented the girl.
"Yes, they do look rather juicy." She smirked as she continued to lead the buzzing tourists towards their doom.
"Save some for me." The guard lightly hissed in excitement as Heidi called out to them, "This way, please. Stay together."
Lilith looked back, spotting the many younger children and older people in the crowd, feeling horrible once they opened the doors and hearing the screams that followed almost immediately after, the girl trying to turn back to stop it, but Alice and Edward held her back and continued to push her towards the door.
Needless to say, it was an awkward ride home.
