The world went silent and slow as Lilith felt Edward immediately grab onto her hand once they got the green light from his father, and the barrier dropped between them as he began to run her towards the parked Jeep. Lilith heard a constant ringing sound in her ear as the blood was draining from her head, getting light headed from fear that she was now being hunted by vampires. She just let Edward take her as she couldn't make herself move or snap out of her daze. He helped her get up into the seat and began to fumble for the seatbelt when it all caught up to her, and Lilith snapped at him that she was okay. Her hearing and sight returned to normal and she could finally control her body once again.
Edward moved into the front seat and Lilith looked scared at the face he was making. She could see the fury, the worry and the frustration in his eyes, "Is he coming after me?" She questioned but Edward didn't answer as he drove off. That was enough to tell her that yes, he was coming after her. The question was why.
His driving was quick and he made sharp turns, not caring how hard he went over things as they made their way back, "Listen to me, James is a tracker. The hunt is his obsession. I read his mind. My reaction on the field set him off." He explained.
"I thought you said that my witch blood doesn't tempt vampires?" Lilith recalled. This is why she can't understand why a tracker would want to hunt her—if she was a regular human, she would understand it was his instinct, but, not this.
"There are vampires that don't care at all. Blood is blood to some vampires and James is one of them." Edward said, "We just made this his most exciting game ever. He's never going to stop." He scowled at himself. He couldn't help it, his protective tendencies got the better of him and he just knew he needed to get himself in between Lilith and James. But, once that forcefield came up, James' excitement levels grew by a mountain and Edward knew that this was going to turn out horribly.
"What should we do then?" Lilith asked him.
"We have to kill him." He answered her and Lilith's eyes widened as she thought about it. She never had to kill anything and she certainly didn't want anyone to die because of her, "Rip him apart and burn the pieces."
Lilith looked out the window to see that it was no pitch black by now but even then she could see that they weren't going the way they had came, "Where are we even going?" She asked him again.
"Away from Forks. We'll get a ferry to Vancouver." He told her and Lilith's heart beat quickened.
"What, no!? I have to go home. Now. You need to take me home." She said sternly to him.
"You can't go home. He's going to trace your scent there. It's the first place he's going to look." Edward told her.
"My parents are there! They can help us!" Her parents are witches and no doubt would help her against a threat aimed at Lilith.
"Can you just let me get you out of here first?" Edward begged.
"No, we're going to my parents and we're asking them for help." She stubbornly refused. She didn't care how angry she was at them or how angry they were going to be at the situation, they deserved to know. It didn't matter that they had kept something from her because she was going to continue to maintain that open relationship with them.
Edward growled in frustration as he turned the car around and headed towards Lilith's home. The two of them walking inside and Lilith closed the door behind them loudly, locking it behind her as if it would do anything if a vampire were to come bathing through it.
"What's going on?" Sierra asked as she came walking towards the commotion seeing Edward and Lilith standing there looking frightened.
"Lilith's in trouble." Edward answered her briefly and Sierra did a double take and called her husband over towards them, "We were playing baseball and some nomads heard us. We had almost gotten away, but, one of them caught onto Lilith's scent."
"How bad is it?" Oliver asked, completely in protective mode as well in that moment and already trying to think of strategies to fix the issue.
"He's a tracker. His hunt is the obsession and he wants Lilith because I set him off." Edward answered and Oliver cussed.
"What do we do?" Lilith asked her parents.
"You said it was a nomad tracker?" Oliver looked at Edward who nodded at him, "He's strong but not the strongest, we should be able to take him down—even if he has a coven behind him."
"Not so close to town. There are too many possible witnesses." Sierra disagreed, "We'll have to lead him away from here as possible; somewhere remote."
"We could put a barrier spell around the house to keep him out." Oliver began to theorise.
"I refuse to have a vampire guarding the house waiting for the moment the barrier drops or we slip up and leave." Sierra snapped, "We'll have to trick him and get him out of town somehow."
"He'll only follow Lilith and I don't feel comfortable with her being bait." Edward added protectively. Lilith could feel another panic attack coming on as she thought about the situation. A vampire was after her and wanted to kill her and she was leaning on another coven of vampires to keep her safe while her parents tried to figure out how to save her also. Her parents were discussing it so directly it didn't even feel real and she felt like she was experiencing an out of body experience.
Edward felt it coming on and held onto her hand and pulling her close to calm her down while they continued to try and come up with a plan that kept Lilith out of it and safe. But no matter what they thought of, it all came down to Lilith being the bait for James, "We don't exactly have any other choice besides me being bait."
"She's right, Edward." Her parents sighed and Oliver began to place the protection spell around the house, "As much as I appreciate you coming here to warm us, you should've gotten her out of the county the minute you found out he was after her, we would've found you elsewhere to help."
Edward gave the blonde girl a knowing look, "How are we going to get her out of here now? He's most likely standing outside the house watching us as we speak."
Oliver looked out the window hoping to see someone standing there as he lowered his voice so no one besides the people in the house could hear them, "We'll make it look like an argument had started here, but, we need to lead the tracker away from town so we can finally take down the coven." Lilith's eyebrows furrowed. Finally take down the coven? Is that why the Bailey family moved to Forks—because of their vampire problem?
"We'll make sure no one else follows you and we'll meet you at your home to discuss the plan." Sierra elaborated more as to why they couldn't just come with them.
"Go, now." Oliver ordered Edward and began to push them towards the front door, "Keep her safe." He said lowly and Edward nodded at him before he ripped open the door and Oliver's demeanour quickly changed to one of rage as he yelled at them, "Don't you ever show your face around me again! Don't ever come back here, do you hear me?" Lilith froze at how easy her father was able to act that out and say something like that to her on the spot, she was sure her shock was a dead give away that she wasn't expecting it and if James was watching them, she hoped it would be believable enough to lead him away from her home and follow them.
They got into the car and began to drive away from her home, she heard a loud thump from someone jumping on top of the car and she flinched, "It's okay, it's just Emmett." Edward tried to calm her down by holding onto her hand and rubbing his thumb over her knuckles before bringing it to his lips, "Alice is in the car behind us." Lilith turned around to see that it was in fact true and she saw Emmett standing on the back of the Jeep and he waved at her and she quickly turned back around.
They began to drive past the diner and she looked out sadly as she saw her group of friends coming out of the diner looking happy and carefree as they all hung out. Jacob was with Bella and it was clear that they had now gone public and she wasn't there to celebrate with them.
They arrived to the Cullen house and Edward pulled her along inside to try and keep her away from any doors or windows. As he looked up he saw Carlisle leading Laurent out, he froze and pulled Lilith behind him and snarled at Laurent, "Wait." Carlisle stopped him, "He came to warn us about James."
Edward only relaxed a little and he kept Lilith behind him protectively, "This isn't my fight, and I've grown tired of his games, but, he's got unparalleled senses, absolutely lethal." Laurent explained, "I've never seen anything like him in my three hundred years. And the woman—Victoria—don't underestimate her. I have no wish to be on any witch's bad side because of this." He said before finally leaving.
The Cullens waited until Lilith's parents arrived before they started to talk about their plan, they lead them all down to the garage where there were all of their different car, "I've had to fight our kind before. We're not easy to kill." Jasper said.
"But, not impossible." Emmett reminded him as they reached for their jackets. The rest of the Cullens reaching for the essentials they were going to need, "We'll tear him apart and burn the pieces."
"I don't relish the thought of killing another creature." Carlisle stated, "Even a sadistic one like James."
"The reason we were called here was because of James." Oliver reminded his colleague, "Their hunting was getting too close to town and some of the locals were getting worried about the town having a vampire problem on their hands." Lilith blinked, the dots connecting once again.
"What if he kills one of us first?" Rosalie questioned as she placed herself up onto the bench. She didn't doubt their abilities to stay alive, but she had no idea how ruthless these vampires could be when it came to getting what they wanted.
"I'm going to run Lilith south." Edward announced, "Can you lead the tracker away from here?" He asked his father.
"James would know you would never leave Lilith." Oliver said to him, "He'd follow you first."
"He's right, Edward." Carlisle agreed.
"We'll go with Lilith." Alice volunteered, "Jasper and I will drive her south with her parents. We'll keep her safe."
"Can you at least try and keep your thoughts to yourself? I don't want them scaring her." He told his sister and she nodded.
Lilith looked up seeing how tense and worried Edward looked and she lightly placed a hand on his shoulder, seeing him settle slightly, "Relax, I'll be okay with them. You know you can trust them."
Edward responded with a kiss on her head as Alice strode over and grabbed onto Lilith's hand, "You're the cutest little thing. You'll be safe with us, don't let Edward worry you too much." She whispered to her while she lead the blonde witch over towards the car, ignoring Edward's unamused expression.
Edward then grabbed onto some of the clothes that she had left in his car and began to hand them to his mother and sister, "Can you put these on so the tracker will pick up Lilith's scent?"
Rosalie didn't move at first as she looked at the jacket in her hands; she was almost about to argue because she didn't want to have to die anytime soon. But she soon remembered that this wasn't just anyone anymore. Lilith was with Edward, she was family now—and they protect their family. She instantly put the jacket on and looked at Lilith who gave her an appreciative look, Rosalie could only nod at her in understanding before walking towards her husband.
Edward walked over to Lilith who was sitting in the backseat of Alice and Jasper's car while her parents had moved to wait in their car that was parked out the front of the home, "If anything happens..."
"Nothing is going to happen." Edward reassured her, "There's ten of us, and there's two of them, and when everything's done, I'm gonna come back and get you."
"Do you promise?" Lilith looked up at him.
"I promise." He nodded, "Lilith, you are my life now."
The sound of the engine started along with the sound of the garage door rolling up, meaning they were about to head towards their destination. Edward placed a hand on her cheek and Lilith reached up to place a kiss on his lips and the vampire returned the kiss with urgency before Lilith sat back in her seat and look up at him as she said, "Please stay safe."
Edward looked at her sadly before the two cars he stood in the middle of drove off and he was left standing alone in the garage, his eyes never leaving the car that held the girl that he loved.
