Like he promised, Edward picked up Lilith the next day around six and drove her towards his home to meet his family. The entire ride there was silent as she looked out the window and watched the trees blur past. His home wasn't too far from hers, but, it was far enough so people wouldn't stumble past it often—Lilith assumed it was so they could have privacy and not have to worry about anyone catching them doing something that wasn't necessarily human-like, just like her family had done with their own home.
"So about last night..." Edward starting, a small smirk playing on his lips as he thought about her kissing his cheek and then running away. He then heard her panicked thoughts as she freaked when she got inside.
The witch's cheeks reddened quickly as she thought about it also, "Can we please not talk about it right now? I'd rather your family not meet me while I look like a tomato." Edward laughed at her as they pulled up to the front of their home and he heard her gasp. He quickly got out of the car and rushed to the other side to open the door for her and helped her out. He grabbed onto her hand as they walked towards the front door, him opening it for her again like usual, "Woah. This is incredible." Lilith managed to let out as her eyes wandered around the room at how beautiful the home was. Edward smiled at her expression as he went to help her with her coat, "Esme definitely did a good job with the design, it feels so homey."
"Did you expect her to chose coffins and dungeons and moats?" He joked at her as he grabbed her hand again and began to lead her up the stairs.
"Well, not the moats..." She joked back innocently causing him to shake his head at her.
As they walked up the stairs, the girl stopped as she saw the different bits of art and heard the opera music coming from the background, her eyebrow rose as she looked at Edward who looked slightly embarrassed, "I told them not to do this." He said to her.
She slightly sniffed their air and let out a small moan of satisfaction, "Is that.... ravioli?" She questioned, her mouth watering as she rushed up the stairs, dragging Edward along with her.
Edward lead her towards the kitchen and she saw his family cooking up a storm, her eyes lit up as she saw the beautiful kitchen and the food that was placed on the kitchen island as they continued to prep for dinner while they listened to a cooking tutorial, "You guys didn't have to do all of this." Edward said to them, grabbing all of their attention to him and the small witch beside him who was clinging to his arm.
"But, I appreciate it!" She added excitedly, trying not to giggle as she spotted the empty appliance boxes thrown to the side.
Esme smiled as she walked over towards Lilith and embraced her with a small hug, "We're making ravioli for you. We heard from Edward that you liked it so much."
Lilith looked up at Edward and bit her lip as she thought about when they had dinner together and she ordered the ravioli a few weeks prior after he saved her from those attackers, "You remembered."
"It was hard not to remember. You were practically singing in your mind how much you loved it." Edward chuckled, remembering how loud her thoughts were while she ate, "But, anyway, this is Esme—my mother for all intents and purposes."
Lilith looked up while Emmett stood behind Esme and waved the knife that was in his hand with a smile, the small witch waving excitedly back at him.
"You didn't have to go through all of this trouble, there's no way I could eat all of this by myself." She said as she looked at how much they had prepared for her, "No matter how mouthwatering it is."
"Nonsense, you've given us an excuse to use the kitchen for the first time." Carlisle said, "And I'm sure you can take some home for your parents—I know how hard both of them work."
"I hope you're hungry." Esme smiled as she walked back over towards her husband.
"Starving." She corrected as she walked over towards the counter, eyeing all of the food that was beautifully placed on top of it, her mouth salivating at the sight of it.
"Perfect." Rosalie smiled as she sat next to her, "I'm Rosalie, but I'm sure you already knew that after Edward has told you all of the great things about me." She said looking over at Edward who didn't look one bit amused in the slightest. Rosalie was furious when she first found out about Lilith and Edward, but, she soon calmed down once she realised that she was a witch and their secret was safe with her, and when Alice showed her a couple of her visions, Rosalie soon became excited to meet her. She was also completely fine with her once she figured out that her blood didn't excite them at all—another thing she assumed that had to do with her witch bloodline, but, that didn't change the fact that she worried for Edward who sometimes did feel the want to taste her blood. But, she knew he would never act on it as her safety was his main priority.
"Lilith." She smiled back and thanked Carlisle as he placed the bowl in front of her. Lilith was about to take a bite when she heard someone call her name.
She turned around to see Alice and Jasper walking over to them, "I'm Alice." She said as she embraced her into a hug.
"Lilith." She introduced herself again.
Edward read her thoughts and made a face, "Alice, what are you—"
"It's okay. Lilith and I are going to be great friends." She interrupted her brother, knowing exactly what thoughts he was asking about.
"Ah." Lilith said excitedly, most likely thinking it was a future vision that she had about them while the rest of the family looked around awkwardly, "I look forward to that then."
Lilith looked over at Jasper who had a tight smile on his face and looked like he was struggling slightly. "Sorry, Jasper's our newest vegetarian." Carlisle apologised, "It's a little difficult for him."
Lilith looked up at Edward with worry that she was imposing and was going to make it worse for him. Would she have to leave to make him feel comfortable? "It's okay, your blood doesn't call to us as much as a regular human's." He reassured her after he read her mind, "You don't have to leave."
"We're assuming that it's because you're a witch it'll make it easier for him and the rest of us also." Esme told her and Lilith looked over at Jasper sympathetically.
"It's a... pleasure... to meet you." Jasper said slightly stiffly. He wasn't used to being able to talk freely with a human without wanting to feed on them, so, talking to Lilith was slightly strange and he was still trying to wrap his head around it.
"See? I told you it was going to be alright, Jasper." Alice said knowingly to her mate, "I knew you weren't gonna hurt her."
Edward made another estranged face at his siblings, "Okay... I'm going to take Lilith on a tour of the rest of the house." He announced and began to drag her away by her hand.
"But, what about the ravioli..." She trailed as she followed after him.
"Cute!" Esme said quietly to Alice and Rosalie once the two had left the room.
"I know!" Alice giggled back to her adoptive mother, "Just you wait and see what happens next." She smirked as she had gotten a recent vision of the two when she had walked in the room.
"I think that went really well." Carlisle commented as they began to pack the food into containers for the witch to take home.
"Was that as weird for you as it was for me?" Edward asked her as they walked up another set of stairs, trying to ignore his family's comments.
"No, they're all really lovely." She denied. She then stopped again as her eyes spotted a piece of art that was on the wall, she observed it and giggled when she realised what it was, "Are those graduation caps?"
"Yeah. It's a private joke." Edward told her, "We matriculate a lot."
Her eyes scanned over the caps as she said, "You guys have been around for a while. I don't know how you have repeated high school over and over again and not completely lost your minds yet." She turned to look at him, "I haven't even finished doing it once and I'm already over it."
He smiled at her recalling the many messages he had received from her when she was going her homework and how much she hated it, "I know." He told her, "But, the younger we start out in a new place, the longer we can stay there."
"Hopefully there's still another few years left on the clock for here." Lilith voiced and Edward then began to continue up the stairs as he thought the same thing.
Lilith looked around the room with confusion, "This is my room." Edward announced.
Lilith walked in the room and looked around at the shelves of books and stacks of music, and various trinkets that were placed on the shelves, "No bed?" She questioned. She then pointed to the day bed on the side of the window, "And you better not call that a bed because it isn't one."
"No, I don't... I don't sleep. Vampires don't sleep, ever." He tells her.
"Well, that sounds horrible." Lilith scrunched her nose in disgust. She loved sleep and she didn't know how she would feel if she couldn't sleep at all for the rest of eternity. Her eyes then widened and she looked at Edward, "No offence or anything. I'm sorry."
Edward chuckled at her, "None taken. It does kind of suck sometimes." He dismissed it. He then pointed at the day bed, "And that day bed is actually very comfortable by the way."
"I'll be the judge of that." She said as she plunked herself onto it, and slightly bounced feeling the plushness of it, "Oh, it is, too."
"Told you." He smiled at her. He watched as her eyes trailed across the rows of CDs that were on the shelves. His eyebrows furrowed as he read her mind, hearing her thoughts about his music collection. He never really noticed how often he could now compared to before, "How come I can read your thoughts more often now?" He decided to ask, "I could barely read them before."
The girl shrugged, "You mentioned that you could still do it regardless, but, it would take a lot of effort to get into my thoughts or my mental walls were down subconsciously... so, I decided to keep them down—I have nothing to hide from you." She responded.
If Edward's heart could still beat, he swore that it would flutter at how much trust she had in him.
The witch stood and walked closer towards the shelves, her fingers brushing past the CDs and records before stopping at one of them—seeing her favourite one right at the front of the stack, a small smile coming onto her face as she looked over at him, "May I?" She asked.
Edward had never been more grateful for his gift when he heard her singing the song in her head and he immediately bought the record that night—and he would do it all again just to see the small look on her face again when she saw it, "Go ahead." He answered her and watched as she pulled the record out of its packaging before placing it on the record player and pressed play on the music recorder.
Iron & Wine's 'Flightless Bird, American Mouth' began to softly play, the music bouncing beautifully across the walls and Edward smiled at her, seeing the perfect opportunity to grab onto her hand and gently pull her closer to him. Lilith wrapped her arms around his shoulders and he effortlessly lifted her and placed her on top of his toes so she could reach him a little better and the two began to sway to the music, "This is nice." Lilith commented with a whisper as she was feeling content. Her heart was definitely pounding in her chest for being so close to him, but, it was nothing short of exhilarating.
Edward stopped at the sound of her heart beat, "Are you scared?" He asked her.
"Scared, no. Never." She told the vampire, "Nervous? Absolutely."
"What's there to be nervous about?"
Lilith couldn't help but just let it out, she had nothing to hide from him and he would probably just read it in her thoughts anyway—so she thought it to be better to just say it to him verbally, "I just met your family and I'm nervous that I didn't make a good enough impression, I'm nervous about being so close to you because you make my heart race whenever you're close to me. I'm nervous that I made a fool of myself yesterday when I kissed your cheek and that—"
Edward suddenly placed his lips gently on hers catching her by surprise as he interrupted her speech. He slowly pulled away looking as Lilith seemed to be in a small daze as she was processing what had just happened, "You're not a fool to me." He expressed.
"I feel like a fool." She pointed out to him, "Or at least felt like a fool." The kiss proved to her that her kissing him on the cheek yesterday didn't push him too far, only pushed him towards her—and wow, did she feel like she was on cloud nine in that moment.
"And you having nothing to worry about my family; they all love you." Edward reassured her again. "Especially Alice and Rosalie—and I thought she would be a tough one to crack."
Lilith grinned, "She seems nice, so, hopefully you're not lying about that to make me feel better."
"I'd never lie to you." He said as he continued to sway.
"Do you promise?" She questioned again with a pout as she held up her pinky.
Edward linked his pinky with hers, "I promise."
