Lilith didn't think that the honeymoon period would end this soon, but, when the thought came to mind to start packing and leave, she didn't hesitate to act. As soon as she felt slightly better from the pain in her stomach, she immediately stood up from her spot on the sofa and waddled over towards Edward's bedroom. She grabbed one of the suitcases and pack some of the clothing up into it, folding it somewhat neatly, not caring too much how it fit inside as she wasn't planning on packing much. The way she had been treated for the last few weeks had made her feel miserable and put her past her breaking point.
She felt as if she just needed time away from the Cullens. She wasn't going to put them through having to look after her and the baby when none of them agreed with her decision. Jake's reaction only made the thought more clearer about how no one wanted this for her besides herself, and maybe Rosalie and Bella. It also didn't help that she didn't exactly want to be around Edward when he was constantly making it known how much he despised the idea of Lilith carrying their child to full term and deliver it, and constantly attempting to change her mind on something that she knew in her heart was right for her to do.
Lilith knew it was bad that she was planning on separating from Edward for the time being after only a couple of months of marriage but she had to think about their child. If Edward didn't want the baby, she wasn't going to pressure him into being a father when he wasn't ready to be one or force him into being ready, but that didn't mean that she wasn't going to back out of her choice of being a mother.
Her parents would most likely help her, no doubt Rosalie and Bella would wherever and whenever they could which would make it easier on her, and she felt as if a weight was already lifting knowing she wouldn't have to do it alone.
"And where do you think you're going?" She heard Edward question from the door, causing her to jump as she had been so deep into her thoughts that she hadn't heard him walk towards the door.
"I'm leaving." There was no reason to lie, and there would be no good lie for her to give to him anyway. She had been caught red handed packing her bags and the best way around it was to just tell him the truth, "Probably stay at my parent's house for a while until the baby comes."
"Why?" Edward crossed his arms, a frown plastered on his face at the thought of his wife leaving him already.
"Because I'm not planning on forcing you to become a father to a baby that you don't want anytime soon." Lilith responded as she continued to pack her bags. She would hate to be the person who would try to force a decision onto someone when she herself had to deal with decisions being made for her. She didn't want to force Edward into being a father and have him resent her and their child for the rest of eternity because he was thrown into something he didn't want yet.
Edward let out a sarcastic chuckle, "You think I don't want this baby?" He questioned her.
"Well, yeah." Lilith answered him with an obvious tone, "Your recent actions have been proving that you will do anything to make me not go through with this; because you don't want this baby."
Edward appeared in front of her from his spot by the doorway and gently grabbed onto Lilith's arms to stop her from packing, "Stop." He muttered softly, his wife scoffing at him as she shrugged his hands off of her and continued to place her clothes into the suitcase, "Lilith, I know I've been distant and—"
"And horrible, and scheming, cold, rude, and disgusted by me." She interrupted him, sending daggers his way for the way he had been treating her lately.
"Okay, I deserve that." He stated, "But, I have never felt disgusted by you, nor will I ever." He added onto it pointedly. He realised that he has been treating her horribly since they found out she was pregnant and unfortunately it was out of fear for what was growing in her stomach and what it could do to her. He was upset that she was choosing to let it grow inside of her instead of taking it out and reducing the risk of her dying, "It's not that I'm not ready to be a father... it's just—I'm terrified of losing you because of this baby."
"Carlisle said that there might be less of a risk because I'm a witch, and you have to trust that, or at least hold out hope that it's correct." Lilith shook her head, "Because I'm holding onto that piece of hope; it could bring us something so special, and wonderful, that we possibly might never have the chance to get ourselves again."
Edward was growing slightly frustrated that she was continuing to stick to her decision, but decided not to show it too much because it might push her to pack faster or leave in the middle of the night, "Lilith, please, I have to protect you."
"And I have to protect our baby." She stated, "Our priorities are completely different right now, and I can see you're not willing to at least give my decision a chance, which is why I need to go." Lilith let out a defeated sigh when she noticed that Edward wasn't budging one bit, she hoped that with the small threat of her leaving that he would change his mind but was only left disappointed when she could see him standing his ground on his own decision.
She hated that they were butting heads over something like this, but, the both of them were too stubborn and had their heels digging into the ground more and more with every conversation—or argument—they had about the subject. Lilith didn't want to have to try the manipulative tactic of threatening to leave to have Edward try and let her have her way, but she was getting desperate to bring together a family of their own that he clearly was not interested in. She was honestly wishing she could just take the last few moments back and not be so childish but she had already started, and she was never a quitter.
Edward grabbed onto her wrists again, "Lilith, stop." He ordered softly when she was grabbing her clothes. Her brown eyes met his own and he let out a sigh of his own, resting his forehead on hers, "I'm sorry, please don't go. I don't want you to leave, I'm terrified of losing you."
The moment he saw in her mind that she was genuinely going to leave to raise the baby by herself, it all sunk in and his actions had slapped him across the face. He was going to lose her because of this—because of him. He couldn't lose her, she was his everything and her safety and happiness was always his first priorities, but, how could he make her happy and keep her safe if she wasn't even by his side anymore? The desperation to keep her safe and by his side took over and immediately made him yield to her, like he always does, and let her have what she wanted. If she stayed, that way he could keep an eye on her at all times and keep her happy.
He had to trust what Carlisle had told them that there was a chance that she would make it out of this alive, and hope that if it turned for the worse that he or Carlisle would be able to change her in time to save her and the baby—or at least her.
Lilith closed her eyes, a ghostly smile playing on her lips, glad that he had begun to come around, "I know." She stated, wrapping her arms around his waist.
Edward smiled himself when he felt her touch on his body, something he had been deprived of for weeks due to the consequences of his own actions. He was thankful that Lilith was always a forgiving person and that he put up with his nonsense. He was grateful that she could see that he was acting out of fear for her safety and not hatred for her and the baby.
But, he wouldn't admit out loud that he would have a hard time loving the baby if it were to make it out and Lilith wouldn't. He didn't think it would be fair for her to give up her own life for the baby when they had their entire future planned. But, then again, she had a constant connection with the baby to be able to love it more than Edward would ever know, making it hard for him to understand why she would possibly want to give her own life up for it.
Edward lifted his hands up and placed them softly against her cheek, rubbing his thumb across while Lilith opened her eyes once again to meet his, "I'm sorry." He told her seriously.
"I know." She responded, bringing her hand up to place it on top of his and bring it down to hold his hand, "I understand that you're scared of losing me because of this, but, I know I'm strong enough to do it."
"I believe you, and I'm sorry that I didn't show that faith in you." He apologised again, causing Lilith to lightly snort. She was probably going to hear him apologise about this to her until the end of time, "Please forgive me?" He begged.
"Edward, I know you're a worry wart. I don't put that against you, in fact, I'd be slightly concerned if you didn't worry about me." She joked, "And of course I forgive you... as long as you help me unpack my stuff, I'm tired now."
He chuckled and pressed a kiss against her head, "Anything for my beautiful and pregnant wife." He responded as he began to place her clothes away neatly in human speed as he didn't want to accidentally make her dizzy if she chose to watch his movements—which she normally did when ever he sped in front of her.
Lilith watched with a smile on her face and a gentle hand on her stomach as Edward placed her things away. She felt relieved that they had made up, she could never really stay mad at him for too long anymore anyway, and she hopefully wouldn't have to fight against the tension with the rest of the family now that Edward was seeing her side.
She understood that they were all afraid for her, but, at least Esme and Rosalie were hiding their fear for her and supporting her instead of treating her like a ticking time bomb. Lilith even made a mental note to give Bella a call to thank her for sticking up for her when she was over earlier, and apologise for Edward putting her and Jake in such an awkward position. She regretting sending Bella away as she missed her best friend, but, she couldn't risk her ruining her relationship over her child.
She could see how Jake was reacting and she feared that it would get worse the longer Bella continued to stand against him. Lilith had no doubt that they most likely argued about it the entire way back to their houses, and she had to hold back laughter as she pictured Bella screaming her head off for treating someone the way he did and saying the horrible things he did.
Lilith knew Bella was not the type to sit back and say nothing, and she wasn't the type to stay with someone who said horrible things and treated people differently because of a situation; but, she wouldn't be surprised if she stayed with Jake because she loved him so much. Lilith could see it in Bella's eyes whenever they talked about him or whenever he was in the same room. Bella was sometimes a private person, but, she couldn't hide how much she loved Jake just because it was that strong and powerful that it always overcame her need for privacy and to always remain calm.
Whenever she was passionate and angry about something, those outbursts would overcome her shy and calm nature also. It didn't matter who she was up against, she would stand up for what she believed in and for the people she cared about; like she had done to Alice, Edward and Jacob just earlier that day.
"You're thinking really hard about Jacob and Bella over there." Edward muttered as he was placing some of her shirts back on the hangers, most definitely sporting a sour expression on his face at the thought of Jacob. He had heard what Jacob had said to Lilith and Bella after the two of them had their talk and he wasn't happy about it one bit. He understood that he was a little emotional about the situation, but, what he said to his wife was too far.
Lilith let out a sigh, forgetting that he was most likely listening in to every single thought she had just had and sat down on the edge of the bed, "I just hope that they don't have an argument and break up over this." She mumbled sadly. She would hate to be the cause of that and wouldn't know what to do to fix it. Lilith then recalled something, "What did you and Jake talk about?" She asked her husband, remembering that Edward had requested to speak with the werewolf outside when things were beginning to get a bit heated.
"It's nothing." Edward shrugged it off, not wanting to tell her about the deal he and Jacob had made. He felt it would definitely upset Lilith to know what he was making plans about and he hoped he wouldn't have to tell her.
"Edward..." Lilith warned. She didn't like that he was trying to keep a secret from her in that moment, especially with everything going on. She had assumed that Jake was probably saying terrible things, and if he was, she wanted to know—it wasn't like she probably hadn't heard it before anyway.
Edward groaned at the warning from his wife. He knew she wouldn't drop it and she would constantly bring it up until he finally told her. But, the deal they had made would stress her out and he didn't want to do that anymore when they're back in a good place again, "We made a deal." He answered vaguely, turning around to see the blonde haired witch's unimpressed expression on her face from how much little detail he had given her, "Fine." He scoffed, knowing he wouldn't get very far with that answer, "I asked Jacob to kill me if the baby killed you."
"Edward!" Lilith half snapped, half scolded, her eyes widened in shock at what he had admitted to her, "Why on earth would you ask for that to happen!?"
"Because I can't live without you!" Edward snapped back, "You know I can't. I was making last resort plans in case this all went very wrong."
Lilith let out an exhale and stood up walking over towards Edward and placing her hands on his face, "Your life is more than just me." She told him.
"No, it's not." Edward shook his head, "You made life worth living, and with you no longer in it, I no longer see a reason to be here either."
Lilith's eyes softened at his words. She couldn't help but think about what were to happen if she didn't survive but their child would; if Edward was planning on dying without a second thought, who would look after their child? She would have to try and also make some last resort plans also to make sure all of their bases were covered.
Edward then watched as Lilith froze in his arms, her expression turning fearful while her eyes were glazed over. Edward had seen the expression many times on Alice whenever she was seeing a vision, but whenever Lilith was having them he worried over her like there was no tomorrow.
With everything going on in their lives, he couldn't help but worry about what she was seeing—since he could never see her own visions until after she thought about them, never while they were happening—and all he could ever do was pray that it was something they could handle and that it had nothing to do with the high priest. Edward couldn't think of anything worse than having the high priest come while Lilith was expecting; he couldn't even begin to imagine what would happen if he were to.
Lilith continued to blink, as if she did, the images in her mind would disappear and everything would go back to normal. She felt if she were to blink, she wouldn't see the people she considered family coming to attack her, her other family, and her child.
She wouldn't see Sam, Paul, Jared, Embry and Quil trying to kill her and her baby. Her innocent baby. She wouldn't see the flashes of neutral coloured fur and bared teeth in front of her, or the pictures of the Cullens having to fend them off. She wouldn't see Edward struggling against Sam and Paul, and she wouldn't see Rosalie trying to run and hide while protecting what looked like a blanketed baby but not being fast enough. If she blinked more, she wouldn't see Paul standing over her with a disgusted look on his face and with no remorse anywhere for whatever he was about to do—or what he had just done. There was blood everywhere, she couldn't tell if it were from the wolves, from her, or from her baby, but, she didn't want to find out. She just wanted it gone.
With one last final blink, the vision was gone and Lilith felt as if she could finally breathe once more. But with every breath she took, she couldn't help but fear what she had seen. The images were still burned into her mind and all she could see was the horrid of what she pictured.
Her memories were now playing into Edward's mind as he could finally see what she had imagined and his protective instincts kicked in almost instantly.
Before either of them could react in any other way or discuss what had just happened, Lilith's phone rang. Her head snapped towards it, seeing it placed on the bed and walking over towards it, picking up the sleek phone and seeing Paul was calling. When Lilith looked at the phone contact, seeing that it was Paul her finger hesitated over the answer button, deciding over whether to press answer or decline. All she could think about was her vision about him and what the future was possibly going to hold. She wondered if the outcome would be different whether she pressed answer or decline.
She sighed before pressing the answer button and placing the phone by her ear, "Tell me it isn't true." Paul demanded.
The pack must've all knew by know about her pregnancy due to Jake—he would've been the only one to be able to tell them and her anxiousness about letting him leave the Cullen home angry was definitely justified now. The vision was most likely the result of Jake's confession and she couldn't lie to Paul about it because he already knew and saw everything he needed to from Jake, "I'm sorry." Was all she said.
She heard rattling and growls on the other end of the phone, causing her to pull the phone away from her ear as she listened to Paul have an outburst on the other end before he came back, "Lilith, it could kill you."
"And there's a chance that it won't." Lilith told him, "But, that won't stop you and Sam trying to kill the only chance of having a child of my own regardless." She said, feeling her eyes narrow at the wall in front of her as she remembered the vision.
"We don't have a choice." He growled. Sam's ordered them to kill it before it was born, and he had no way around it anymore.
"Everyone has a choice, Paul." Lilith snapped at him, "And this is me making mine!" She finished before instantly hanging up phone and blocking each of the pack boy's numbers and throwing the phone angrily, watching as Edward quickly sped over and caught it before it could smash and give her another reason to get upset.
Lilith could only then look at Edward as her chest puffed in and out angrily before she quickly burst into tears, running into his arms for comfort. This is meant to be the happiest time of her life, however, it feels anything but.
