Lilith watched with a happy smile on her face as a small girl with blonde hair chased after snowflakes. Edward stood by her side who has his arm securely wrapped around her waist as he, too, was watching the young girl in front of them. The girl jumped up high to catch the snowflake that was a couple metres in the air, Lilith letting out a small content giggle as she watched the girl look as if she was flying. Lilith looked up at Edward who only seemed to look proud at the child and her abilities before she landed onto the soft white snow.
The girl looked into her hand with an excited expression before racing over towards Lilith and Edward, who bent down to catch her and pick her up, placing her onto his hip as the girl showed the both of them the snowflake she had caught. It was then when Lilith noticed the minor details of the makings of the girl in front of her; she noticed the intensity of the green eyes that she had pictured Edward to have when he was human, along with the rosiness of her cheeks to show that she still had blood running through her veins and a heartbeat.
Edward and Lilith seemed to interact with the girl so delicately as they were afraid to hurt her but it wasn't because of their strength, it was because they loved her so much and the child with them seemed to be the most precious thing in the world to them that it was only fitting to treat her as such.
Lilith gave the girl a gentle kiss on the head before Edward placed her back onto her feet, two turning and watched as the young girl went back to what she was doing, continuing to happily catch snowflakes while Edward and Lilith held each other contently.
Lilith's brown eyes fluttered open, her hands instinctively curling the bed covers tighter towards her body for comfort as she sadly thought about her dream, "Lilith?" Edward softly called out as he ran a hand up her arm, "Did you have a nightmare?" He questioned, having heard her sad thoughts but was not able to see her dream. The nightmares with the high priest always seemed to shut him out when they occurred, and she hated how he dreamt of him almost every night while on her honeymoon. But, it felt as if she would've much preferred that dream over the one she just had.
"No, it was a good dream. A really good dream, actually." She told him sadly as she nestled her back closer towards his chest.
"Then why is your mind shut off to me?" He asked, no longer able to hear any of her thoughts about it so he couldn't piece together what the dream was about besides the fact that it made her sad.
"Because it's something I'll never really have, and I didn't want it to upset you by it." She answered. There was a possibility of the dream happening, but, just not in the way that she had imagined. Adoption will always be an option for them, but the way she had imagined the girl having her hair colour and Edward's human eye colour was a reminder—almost more like a slap in the face—that she was hoping for the impossible.
"Tell me about it." He pressed, slightly confused now. He didn't want whatever was happening in her mind to make her push him away, especially not after they had been doing so well lately. But, whatever she dreamt of was really affecting her.
"You promise you won't get upset?" She asked as she turned in his arms to face him, holding up her pinky finger.
Edward linked his pinky finger with hers, smiling as they hadn't done such a thing in a long time and it was bringing back old memories of the times that they did, "I promise." He responded.
Lilith then bit her lip, figuring out a way to word out her dream in a way that made sense to the both of them as she was still trying to figure it out herself as well. She wanted to verbalise it instead of just opening up her mind to him as she felt it would be better for them communication wise. She then cleared her throat, "Well, in was in the future, and I think we had a family? A daughter to be exact. She had my hair, but, had your eyes and these adorable rosy cheeks." Lilith started as she cuddled up towards Edward's chest, placing a hand on top of it which he gently grabbed, "She was catching snowflakes while we watched over her. She would come and show us every snowflake that she would catch and we would look at her so preciously. We didn't say anything but you could tell how proud and in love we were with her. She was perfect... and we were so happy.."
"I'm sorry that I can't give that to you." Edward couldn't help but frown, wishing there was a way to make it happen for her. The way that she had described it to him made him want to be able to give that to her, but hated how they both knew it was physically impossible.
"Don't be." She shook her head, "It was just a dream. I think it only happened because I was thinking about how we would all interact with a child if we were to adopt."
Edward wouldn't mind the idea of adopting a child, he would like to at least have a couple of decades with Lilith to himself, but if the time came and they decided that they were ready and wanted to adopt a child, then he would do that to make her happy, "But, I know that I wouldn't be able to give you that exact child, and that might make you resent me for it." Edward mentioned.
Lilith gave him a sympathetic look as she brushed a hand over his cheek, "I don't regret any of the choices that I've made, because at the end of the day, I'll still have you, and that's all I'll ever need." She responded and Edward leaned in to give her a light kiss.
"I love you." He said to her.
"I love you too, and I always will." She said back. She always knew how to make him feel better about himself and vice versa, and he'll be forever grateful that she agreed to be by his side forever.
Lilith was sat down on a red velvet couch, glaring at the high priest in front of her. He was well aware of her hatred towards him, it growing almost every day with every dream he drags her into to try and talk to her. Her hatred for the high priest swallowing up any fear she had for him as his presence was severely inconveniencing her life.
"I'm supposed to be on my honeymoon." She mentioned, "And yet you keep ruining it by making me dream of you."
Lilith watched as the high priest began to make himself a drink in front of her, "You know, I am quite glad we've gotten past you being afraid of me. I can actually have a conversation with you now." He chuckled at himself, "Although it mainly consists of your snarky comments that could get you killed, I quite enjoy our time together."
Lilith let out a scoff at him and rolled her eyes dramatically, "What do you want?" She questioned him. These dreams together never seemed to go anywhere of use to either of them, and she didn't quite see the point.
"I want to help you, child." He answered her and Lilith raised an eyebrow, not believing a single word he said because there was no way that there would actually be any truth to it. The high priest didn't just help people for the sake of it, there was always going to be a catch with his deals and she would be stupid to believe anything he says to her right off the bat. Her parents were a good example why she shouldn't believe him, "I want to help you harness your full potential." He added.
Lilith let out a chuckle and lazily waved her hand, "There it is." She scowled. She watched as the high priest hardened his eyes and walked towards her, instead of cowering away, Lilith stood up and faced him, glaring into his eyes, "Let me tell you this, I don't want to be like you, I don't want to be a dark witch and I never will, so quit trying to pull me over towards your side because it won't work."
The high priest looked slightly impressed at her, "Fine." He said curtly which took Lilith slightly by surprise as she wasn't expecting him to back down so quickly, "I'm always about giving people choices."
"And where was my choice before!?" Lilith couldn't help but snap. She didn't have a choice in her future, having to create one for herself to be able to live a happy and good life instead of the one her parents accidentally set out for her and tried to hide her from.
"I'm giving you the choice now." The high priest responded in a calm tone, completely disregarding her outburst which almost made it seem threatening to her, "But, don't think that I won't just back down."
"If you think about hurting anyone that I care about to get to me—and I mean anyone—I will show you what my true potential would look like, but, you won't like it." She stated. She knew it was stupid to threaten him, but, the safety of her friends and family meant more to her than herself.
The high priest huffed with a smirk, backing away from Lilith and taking a sip from his drink, "We're more alike than we thought." He realised. She was fearless and powerful, quite the combination, "I'm not surprised either, I did give you a piece of my power to help you be born in the first place."
"Well, its a good thing that I'm giving that up soon then, Voldemort." Lilith responded almost sarcastically yet with a large amount of distaste. She never wanted the power in the first place and she knew the temptation for more wasn't actually what she wanted but what the darkness of magic was just trying to persuade her to want.
"Ah, yes, to be a vampire like your new husband, correct?" He questioned her and Lilith nodded at him, confirming his suspicions, "But, is that really what you want? I thought you would want a family and to continue being able to practice magic."
"If that's what you think, then you truly don't know me at all. I'd much prefer to give up my magic and the idea of having my own family in order to protect the people I care about from you and myself if I go down that path." She crossed her arms, "And besides, don't act as if you wish for me to have my own family for me to be happy. We all know you'd try to prey on my child like you tried to do with me."
"I know everything about you. I was there the moment you were born, I named you, and I was with you for almost every moment after that without you even knowing it." The high priest sad as he sat down on the velvet couch across from her.
"Yes, Lilith, great choice." Lilith mumbled sarcastically, "But, you don't know me, you don't want to help me, you just want to use me and I don't want any part of it anymore. So, leave me alone." Her nostrils flared as she stood up and began to walk towards the door behind them.
She reached for the door handle, "Don't you ever wonder how it was that I was able to find you so easily when you were concealed so heavily in Forks?" The high priest suddenly questioned, causing Lilith to pause. The high priest smirked, "I think you do know, but, you never wanted to admit it because you trusted someone you shouldn't have."
Lilith turned to look at him, "Someone told you where I was, didn't they?" She realised. There was only one person who she could think of that all clues were pointing towards, but, she hoped that she wasn't assuming the worst.
"Yes, they did. Even despite your outbursts of magic, you were still concealed by the wolves and your parents." He confirmed, "And you know who it was."
"Why are you telling me this?" She suddenly asked him. She couldn't figure out his motives for anything he said or did, he was such an enigma to her but he was acting as if he was an open book—which went against everything to try and trust and believe anything she was seeing or hearing come from him.
"Like I said, I want to help you. I'm showing you that I can be trusted." The high priest told her, "Even if you say you don't want it now, there's something coming your way that you'll feel as if you can't handle on your own, you won't know who to trust, and you'll come crawling back to me asking for help."
She scoffed, "And let me guess, you'll laugh in my face saying 'I told you so' and turn me away?" She asked.
"No, maybe then we'll negotiate the terms of your parents' deal and make one of our own." He stated, leaning his arms on the back of the couch, "You might not like it or you might, only time will tell. But, for now, I'll be waiting for you." Lilith's glare intensified, "Be careful who you trust, Lilith. Not everyone is who you they seem." He added.
"Believe me, I wasn't going to trust you anyway." His words of wisdom only convinced her more that she needed to stay away from him.
It was then when Lilith turned back around and opened the door, walking through it and closing the door behind her, instantly waking up back into the real world.
It had been several hours since she had woken up from her dream with the high priest and she had felt on edge ever since. His words were on a constant loop at the back of her mind and she could see that her state was slightly worrying Edward when he was trying to distract her from it. He hated how he couldn't do a thing to stop this from happening to his wife who was clearly struggling to make it stop and move past it. He just hoped that it would all be over soon.
"Are you sure you don't want to tell me about it?" Edward questioned as he placed his head into Lilith's shoulder, wrapping his arms around her from behind her.
She nodded with a sigh, "Nothing bad happened this time, he just tried to get under my skin and convince me to join him." She was glad it wasn't like some of the other nightmares where she pictured death and blood and everything else horrid under the sun, but talking to the high priest drained her because he was so frustrating.
"It's weird that you can talk to him through your dreams." Edward scowled as he pulled away, walking towards the kitchen to make Lilith some tea to calm her down while she sat down and watched, "And it's frustrating that he shuts me out so I can't see what he's saying." After every dream that she had so far, Lilith would tell Edward parts of what happened; she felt it was best not to tell him everything that is said because she didn't want to worry him too much or stress him out. He was already stressed enough as it was just by not being able to tap into the dreams or stop them, it would only make it worse because he wouldn't know how to stop the high priest's words from getting under his skin like he was trying to do with Lilith.
She saw his inability to see into her dreams as a blessing and a curse as she was able to stop Edward from worrying about them and having the high priest getting to Edward through her, but sometimes, she wished that he was able to be there for her during them. While she seemed confident and brave while talking to the high priest, she was still afraid that one wrong move and he would hurt everyone she cared about, and she was continuing to push her limits whenever she did speak to him because she would snap and he would push her buttons.
"He says he's a private person." She rolled her eyes. He was dramatic yet he wanted everything to be a secret or a surprise which was also frustrating to her, "But, he said that he gave me a piece of his power, which was why he was always able to track me down whenever I used it; because it was technically his also."
"Maybe that's why you're more susceptible to becoming a dark witch and why you were so strong so quickly in the first place." Edward pieced together as he placed the tea in front of her, "I just wish I could do something to stop it."
"Only a few more weeks left and then I'll be like you." She said as she placed a hand over his, "Being a vampire means no sleep which equals no nightmares."
"And no dark witchiness." Edward added and Lilith let out a small chuckle before taking a sip of her tea, "Which makes all of our problems somewhat solved."
At the mention of dark witchiness, it reminded Lilith of something that the high priest had said to her during her dream and it gave her an idea on how to confirm her suspicions, "Hey, could I borrow your phone for second?" She asked him. He looked at her weirdly while reaching to grab it considering she had her own, "Please?" She added and he let out a defeated sigh before handing it over completely.
She blew him a kiss before turning typing in the phone number that she surprisingly still remembered by heart—most likely from how many times she had tried to call it in the past. Lilith placed the phone by her ear as she listened in, hearing the phone line ringing which was a lot more than she would normally get. After the fourth ring, it stopped and it was a small silence at first before she heard a quiet, yet familiar, "Hello?"
Her heart stopped, recognising it instantly, "Magda?" She questioned and she heard the breath catch in Magda's throat from the other side of the line.
"I'm sorry, Lilith. I did what I had to do." She heard Magda say before the line disconnected. Lilith looked at the phone in shock before pulling it away and placing it on the bench.
"What? What is it?" Edward asked her, walking around towards her.
"He was right. It was Magda." She told him with a gulp, "It was Magda who told the high priest where I was. That's how he found me."
