~Two Years Ago~

Wednesday, December 29, 2020.

Sofia Adams sat in her apartment hanging out with her friends and boyfriend laughing and talking about random things when received an unexpected call from her father.

She hadn't talked to her father in a while, due to the fact that she wanted to move away to LA as her parents stood in New York. Her father thought she was being selfish for moving away with her boyfriend and friends instead of staying with her family and helping take care of her mother.

Her mother had breast cancer; she has for a while now. Her mother wanted her to go and be happy even if that meant leaving her behind to deal with this a horrible disease. At first Sofia didn't want to leave her family but her mother told her to go and be happy and she always listened to whatever her mother said but this time she almost didn't. Until her mother practically demanded her to go and live her life and promised that she'd be fine with her husband and daughter.

She felt horrible for leaving her mother, especially at a time like that and she still feels horrible about it, but she left anyways and now she's happy, not that she wasn't happy before.

She glanced down at her phone confused on why her father was calling instead of her mother like how she used to before she spoke up "I'll be right back," she told her friends before standing up and walking into her room.

She hesitantly answered the phone, and as she did, she heard sniffling over the phone she quirked her eyebrow in confusion before speaking up "Hey dad, how've you-," before she could finish her sentence her father spoke up "Hey sweetie, I-I, uh, I," she could her him cut himself off as she heard her sister's voice in the background telling him it would be okay.

"Sam? Hello? what's going on?" Sofia asked confused on what the hell was happening "Hey, Sof, how are you?" Sam spoke over the phone, "I'm doing good, where's dad? and why isn't mom calling me?" Sofia asked.

"Mom's not here," Sam simply replied "Oh, well can you tell her to call me?" Sofia asked "No, Sof, I don't think you get it," Sam said confusing the raven-haired girl even more "What do you mean? Sam, I'm so confused," Sofia said through her stutter.

"Mom's gone," Sam said "What are you talking about?" Sofia asked, "Mom's gone, she's dead," Sam said, the raven-haired girl couldn't believe what she was hearing, "No, no, what are you talking about? she was fine yesterday," Sofia exclaimed as tears ran down her cheeks.

"She's gone, Sof," Sam said as more tears fell down the crying girls face. She couldn't believe what just happened, her mother is dead. As more and more tears fell down her face Sofia started to feel empty, she had no idea what to do or say, so she just gave up and slowly bought herself to her knees before letting out an ear-piercing scream.

Brooke, Mason, and Malakhai sat in the living room patiently waiting for Sofia to come back from her phone call, as they waited for her to come back, they all went on their phones scrolling through social media until they heard an ear-piercing sound, a scream.

Their heads shot up from their phones. Without question they all shot up from the couch and ran to Sofia's room to see her on her knees with her phone slipping out of her hand. They know that Sofia doesn't like to be questioned when crying or upset so they just sat down on the floor with her as she cried into her boyfriend's arms as her friends tried to calm her down as best as they could.

"S-She's dead," Sofia said into her boyfriend's ear in a hushed whisper that only he could hear causing his eyes to widen in shock "What?" Mason asked confused and shocked, he knew that Sofia's mother had breast cancer but the last that he had heard she was doing great, what the hell happened? "She's gone," Sofia sobbed loud enough for everyone to hear "She's gone, and I didn't even get to say goodbye," she said sobbing harder than before.

Sofia and her friends sat on the floor of Sofia's bedroom as she sobbed into her boyfriend's arms. They didn't know to do what to do or how to help her, none of them had ever lost someone that important to them. They had no idea how they should help her so Brooke and Khai went to go buy her all of her favorite snack as Mason stayed and comforted her as best as he could.

"I would ask if you're okay, but your obviously not so I'm just gonna-," Mason said shifting on the floor to get more comfortable with Sofia on his lap while also slowly pulling away to see his girlfriend's face "Just hold me?" Sofia questioned with a sniffle as he whipped her tears with his thumb "Yeah," Mason nodded before pulling her back into his arms.

After some time, Mason's foot fell asleep, so he slowly stood up while also carrying Sofia in his arms, he made his way to her bed and laid her down before sliding in next to her. Sofia snuggled into her boyfriend's arms finding comfort in the way he held her and helped her calm down.

After Sofia cried her eyes out, sometime later Sofia eventually fell asleep in Mason's arms. And once she woke up in his arms, she smiled at him, he had tear stains on her shirt along with mascara marks, she looked at him mesmerized at his expression before remembering the horrible things that happened last night.

She slowly sat up placing her face in her hands as tears rolled down her cheeks, she sniffled as tears fell down her face waking up Mason. He slowly opened his eyes, they landed on his girlfriend who he smiled at, but his smile slowly faded when he realized that she was crying, "Hey, hey, hey, what's wrong?" Mason questioned her, she looked at him making realize the dumb question he asked before he pursed his lips and bought her into his arms.

"It's all gonna be okay," he promised her as he rubbed his hand up and down her back as an attempt to calm her down.

~A Week Later~

Wednesday, January 5th, 2021.

A week had past, and Sofia couldn't describe how she was feeling because she didn't know what she was feeling or how to feel, she knew she was sad, but she had these other horrible feelings that made her want to break everything. But as of now Sofia and her friends and boyfriend all went back to LA to go to Sofia's mother's funeral. Sofia still couldn't believe that her mother had passed. Neither could Sam or her father and they were the ones who was there when she passed.

It still pained them, but they knew what was happening and they got to say their goodbyes Sofia on the other hand didn't get to say goodbye and she hated herself for that. She thought that if she had stayed with her family that this would have never happened or that maybe it would have happened, but she would have gotten to say her goodbyes.

Sofia arrived home with her friends and boyfriend and as she walked in, she let out a shakily breath, loud enough for everyone to hear. She saw her mother's photo hanging on the wall, she looked at it with tears in her eyes seeing her mother's picture in the house she used to call home. She couldn't call this her home. Not anymore. Not after her mother.

She stared at the picture with a blank expression before rushing out of the house with tears running down her face.

Mason being the loving boyfriend he is immediately followed after her, he felt horrible for her, he didn't know what he could do for her, and she didn't know what he could do to help her either, she just wanted her mother back. But that's not happing, and she knows it, no matter how hard she begs or cries, Athena Adams is not coming back.

Brooke and Malakhai gave each other a worried look before following after the two. Once they arrived outside that didn't see anyone other than Sam and Sofia's father outside hugging the poor girl as Mason awkwardly stood in silence as Sofia cried with her sister and father.

A few minutes had passed until Sam spoke up "Come on we have to get going," she sniffled, Sofia nodded in agreement letting out a small "Yeah," before making her way over to Mason who wrapped his arms around her.

Once they arrived at the church to see Athena's dead body, Sofia couldn't help but run up to her casket and cry into her dead mother's arms. She wanted her mother to hold her so bad right now that it hurt, she sobbed into her mother's arms letting out a scream as Brooke, Malakhai, Mason, and Sam ran up to the sobbing girl ripping her deceased mother's arms.

Sofia collapsed onto the floor in front of her mother's casket, while heavily sobbing in her hands not caring that everyone in her family was staring at her. They probably thought that she was insane, but the poor girl just lost her mother, her best friend in the whole world, and now she has to live the rest of her life without her.

What hurts her even more is that her mother promised her that she would be okay without her there, but she lied to her.

Sofia spent the rest of the funeral crying next to her mother's casket. She had never cried so hard in her whole life. It just hurt too much.

The next few days Sofia refused to leave the room that she spent her childhood in her father's house, she also refused to call that house her home. She didn't want to see anyone and she most certainty didn't want anyone to see her looking a mess.

She spent her days crying in her father's room until it was time for her to leave. She went back to LA and did the exact same thing she did in her father's house, she laid in her room crying her eyes out until she eventually fell asleep.

But after four weeks (February 2nd, 2021.) she was sick and tired of crying so instead of crying she started partying and after a few more weeks (March 26th, 2021.) the partying led to heavily drinking.

And soon after she started to have a drinking problem.

~Five Months Later~

Tuesday, July 12th, 2021

The past five months have been messy, but she's been getting through it with the help of her best friends and boyfriend. But still five months later even after Brooke, Mason, and Malakhai helped Sofia slow down with the drinking she received another phone call from her father.

The last time she got an unexpected call from her father, her mother had died and now he's calling her after not calling her since her mother's funeral which was eight months ago.

She decided to answer the phone anyways, she prayed that he didn't have any bad news like he did the last time. That news ruined her, so she hoped this didn't ruin her too. Which honestly it just might.

"Hey sweetie, how have you been?" Sofia's father, Carlos asked her "I've been good," Sofia replied still confused on why her father called and what he wanted from her, 'You?" Sofia asked genuinely curious on how her father has been doing since the passing of his wife, "I've been great," Carlos replied, his tone filled with joy and excitement. "I got some good news," Carlos excitedly said, "And what's that?" Sofia asked pretending like she cared because honestly, she didn't, she does care about and love her father but how could he be so excited after him wife died not too long ago?

"I'm getting married!" he exclaimed, Sofia's eyes widened in shock and then she blew up in anger, her face was now red from anger and her hands were shaking along with the rest of her body, "You're getting married eight months after your wife of eighteen almost nineteen years died!" She exclaimed with rage in her voice, she was so mad you could practically feel her anger through the phone, "It's only been eight months and now you're going out dating women which doesn't even matter that much but now you fucking married! Are you crazy? How could you? it's only been eight months! what the fuck is wrong with you?!" and with that she hung up, does he really except her to be happy that he's getting married after her mother just died not that long ago? To Sofia it felt like it was just yesterday she received the horrifying news and as if her funeral had just happened not even hours ago.

She couldn't believe her father. Any sane person would wait a couple of years until dating after the love of their life died.

Mason sat with Khai in the living room as Brooke just came out of the bathroom when they heard yelling coming from the couple's room. "What the hell?" Brooke muttered before running to Sofia and Mason's room as the boys followed after her. She stepped into the room to see Sofia fuming with rage and a vase on the floor, that was now shattered.

"What the hell happened?" Khai asked looking at the raven-haired girl who was breathing heavily, "My dad is dating," Sofia shouted "Well, it's not as bad as I thought then," Khai muttered "He's getting married too!" Sofia yelled. "Oh god," Mason muttered "What the hell" Brooke said in shock, "How can he just get married after eight fucking months, what the hell is wrong with him?!" Sofia shouted in anger.

Mason turned to the Gonzalez siblings giving them a look telling them to give the couple a minute alone, they nodded before making their way into the living room. "Love, I know your angry, but you need to calm down," Mason said, just the sound of his voice slightly calmed her down.

"Take some deep breaths," Mason instructed, Sofia listened and took some deep breaths, slightly calming her down. She let out a deep sigh before telling Mason everything that happened and after that she called her sister, Sam.

She stood in her room pacing back in forth waiting for her sister to answer the phone. She impatiently started to chew her nails, "Sam? Oh, thank God, I thought you weren't gonna answer," Sofia breathed out, "Hey, I'm here, what's up?" Sam asked.

"Dad didn't tell you?" Sofia asked in confusion, Sam would be the first person to know, her father tells her everything, "Tell me what?" Sam questioned, "Dad's getting married!" Sofia exclaimed in anger, "Oh yeah, he told me,"

"And you didn't tell me?" Sofia asked with an angry tone "I wanted to, but Dad said he wanted to tell you the news, but he said you hung up on him," Sam told her "Yeah, I hung up on him because mom just died and he's getting married!" Sofia exclaimed, "Can you just be happy for him?" Sam questioned. "No, I can't," Sofia exclaimed in anger before hanging up and throwing her phone on her bed in anger.

She couldn't believe her dad and now her sister. How could she tell her to be happy for her father's new marriage when her mother just died, and her sister wants her to act like everything is rainbows and unicorns, when it's not, everything is not rainbows and unicorns everything is horrible, but she has to put on her best act and try to look okay in front of her friends even though behind closed doors she breaks down every second of everyday.

Khai and Brooke live in the apartment next door from Mason and Sofia, they basically see each other every day, sometimes the girls have a girl's day, and the guys have a guy's day so they can switch it up once in a while. They hang out with other friends but they're each other's best friends.

~A Week Later~

Sofia had been ignoring her father and sisters calls all week she knew exactly what they were going to say, and she didn't want to hear it. As she sat in her favorite restaurant with her having person, Mason, going out on a date with him so they could spend some quality time together as a couple.

But once their date was rudely interrupted by a call from Sam, Sofia rolled her eyes while mentally screaming her heart out, "Maybe you should just answer," Mason suggested, Sofia looked at him with a knowing look making him raise his hands in defense before speaking, "Look I know you don't want to talk to either of them but if you answer maybe, just maybe they'll leave you alone,"

"I seriously doubt it," Sofia muttered, "Just answer it," Mason replied, "Fine," she breathed out answering the phone, "What do you want Sam?" she asked with a harsh tone, "Look, I know your mad at dad and myself, but can you please just talk to him, he wants to ask you something," Sam said rushing herself knowing that Sofia would hang up on her if she got on her nerves.

"Why don't you just tell me instead of dad, you are on the phone with me," Sofia suggested with an annoyed expression, "Dad's right here, if you just give him five minutes to ask you-," Sofia interrupted Sam not wanting to hear what else she has to say "All, I'm hearing is blah, blah, blah, get on with it before I hang up,"

"Hey Mija, how've you been?" Carlos asked with a sweet tone that almost made her feel bad for the way she acted towards him, key word, almost. "I've been good, dad," Sofia said with a deadpanned expression, "That's good," Carlos said smiling on the other side of the phone wishing she wasn't mad at him so they could actually have a nice conversation. "What did you want ask me?"

"Listen, Mija, I know your mad at me and your sister, but I want you to be there for my big day, so I was wondering if you would come to my-," Before he could finish his sentence she ended the phone call not wanting to hear another word that was about to come out of his mouth, she knew he was going to ask her this.

How could he find someone new and then immediately get married right after and then also has the nerve to invite his daughter who hates his guts right now to his wedding with his new stupid wife.

She sat there rambling about everything to her boyfriend and Mason didn't know what to do other than listen to every word that came out of her mouth. She kept rambling to Mason when she received a text from her sister.

Sammy<3
I know your mad at me and dad.
but pls come he really misses you and want you to be here for his big day.

Sof<3
Well then, he should've thought about that before getting remarried after eight fucking months!
Does eight months really mean nothing to him!
She just fucking died, and he's already moved on and you're telling me that you're okay with that?

Sammy<3
Ofc I'm not okay with it, I miss mom too but if this is what he wants we can't do anything to stop him.

Sof<3
I can't believe you!

╰•★★ ------------------ ★★•╯

Sofia loudly groaned at her sister texts messages she really wanted to smash their heads together from the stupid thing she texted her but obviously she couldn't, but if she could... She would. "Maybe you should go," Mason suggested with a questioning tone, Sofia looked at him with anger making him correct himself before slapped the shit out of him. "Hear me out, okay? I know your pissed at him and Sam, but it'll make him happy,"

"I don't care," Sofia deadpanned, "Look how 'bout this, me, you, Brooke, Khai, we'll all go," he offered, but she didn't seem pleased, "C'mon it would've made your mother happy," Mason hated bringing up Sofia's mother because he knew how she was and the fact that he brought her up made her want to slap the shit out of him but she decided to act like she didn't care, but she did, she wanted to yell at him and slap him while asking how the hell he would know what her mother, a women he barely knew, would want, but instead of that she smiled, the fakest smile she ever put on, "Your right, I will go," Sofia smiled to Masons surprise, he hadn't seen her smile in months, he smiled back interlocking their hands and slight nodding.

But the only reason she was smiling because she had a plan.

A great plan.

A plan to ruin her father's wedding.

Audrina Speaks!

I hope you guys like this book so far.

I worked really hard on this chapter, and I cannot wait to write more.

Please, vote, comment, and follow if you haven't already.

Also, I put a song at the very top of this.
you do not have to play it if you don't want to and there won't be on there every single time because I'm probably not going to have a song every time but if I find any even if it has nothing to do with the chapter, I'll put it up there just for fun.
But that's all for now. Enjoy<3!

3630 words.

Unedited. Didn't really feel like it, I was just so excited to publish this.
