07. The Maximals..

┆彡 location ;
PERU, 1994
the maximals!

(Y/N) shivers feeling the coolness wash over her, sighing sadly at the fact her clothes were now going to be wet from her hips down. They hear animal noises coming towards them from within the forest, causing her to grip onto Noah's sleeves in fear.

"What was that?" She shakily questioned in a quiet voice, getting pulled up onto a rock by Noah and Elena, as her bracelet still blinked a small light.

She soon got her answer, when Optimus Primal bursts out from the foliage and aggressively pounds his chest, startling the trio cowering, "Who are you?! And why are you hunting for the key?!"

Noah keeps an arm out stretched in front of the two scared girls, and aims his wrist-mounted blaster at Primal in warning. He didn't back down seeing that, and made a grunted noise through his dermas.

"Yo, Donkey Kong! Stay away from my friends!" The familiar voice of Mirage was heard from above, as he appears at the top of a high rock, pointing his blaster at Primal.

(Y/N)'s panic slightly eased at his entrance, her hands still gripping onto her brothers wet shirt, and looks up at Mirage with wide eyes, "Uh, Raj!"

He raised one of his servos up in reassure spotting her state, and smirked confidently down at her, " Don't worry! Ya boy's got this!"

However he spoke to soon, as Cheetor pounces out of the bushes and right on top of Mirage, knocking him down on the rock he was on. Mirage screams in a high-pitched squeal way, while Cheetor growls lowly, "Stranger danger! Stranger danger!"

(Y/N) deadpanned at the scene with the other two humans, and they all turned their hopes to Wheeljack who popped out from behind them, weapon aimed up on Primal.

"Hey, hey! Hey, hey, hey! Not so fa--!" His words were cut short, when he is knocked away by Rhinox, who roars in the three humans faces, and it made the cower back at the loud noise.

Wheeljack got back up from the hit, having landed on a different part of the forest that was solid ground, "Ay yi yi..." He huffs out, and fixes up his visor over his optics.

Arcee gracefully clambers over a rock, aiming her guns at Cheetor instead, and taunts playfully, "Hey! Over here, kitty kitty!"

Optimus now appears as he leaps over Rhinox, aiming his gun at Primal from within the low lying water, "Stand down!"

At his order Primal smashes his servos into the water, creating a big splash that wets the trio still standing on the rock, and Primal roars at Optimus.

"I won't ask a second time..." Optimus demand threateningly, while his optical bridge creased, and made his gun started spinning that was glowing orange.

The two robot factions have a standoff, making Primal hits his chest plate with a servo not backing down, until Airazor flies in to intervene, "No! All of you, stop!"

Primal's defence stance came down when he saw his old friend, and went back to leaning on his metal knuckles, "Airazor!"

"Primal..." The bird breathed out in disbelief, her yellow optics wide taking in the sight of all the Maximals left, "I thought you were lost. All of you."

The said male bowed his head a little hesitant to ask, and looked up after a second to Airazor, "The others, are they...?"

Her once relieved expression drops to sadness, voice also changing to a sorrowful one, "I am all that is left." She turns to Optimus still in a defense guard, "Prime, these are my fellow Maximals." She motions to them with her left wing, "Rhinox. Cheetor."

Cheetor was still pinning down Mirage on the rock, and eventually lifts his front pedal paws off his chest plate, "Sorry about scaring you, brother."

"Scared?" Mirage scoffs the accusing off knowing a certain girl was watching him right now, and pushes off the ground with his servos to stand up, "Please. I'm not scared." Oil ends trickles out of his body like he wet himself, and he brushes if away with a nervous laugh, "That's just engine oil."

(Y/N) snickers to herself amused at the scene, and Mirage heard it which caused him to tense up embarrassed, turning to look off away from her. She smiled a little seeing that, and focused back on the task at hand.

"And our leader, Optimus Primal." Airazor introduced the ape, who was puffing his chest out to look bigger, and moved his metal fists in the water with pride.

Optimus' gun was transformed back into his metal arm, and his mouth piece formed back into his face, "Optimus Primal?" He asked in confusion.

Primal's helm turns towards the Autobot, "Named after you." He confirms and goes to bow his head a little to show his appeartction, "The legendary warrior of Cybertron. It's an honor." His gazes turn back to the eagle, "Airazor, I'm happy to see you, old friend, but bringing others here was not part of our plan. I fear you bring dark tidings."

"Scourge has come to Earth." Airazor informs her group of Maximals, and glances between them all individually.

"He's found us."

"And he has half of the key." She continues to tell the new members after Primal's words, and blinks slowly as she faced the two leaders, "We must find the second piece before he does."

(Y/N) and Elena share a look between each other from behind Noah's figure, and the latter went to yell loudly for all the tall robots to hear, "But it wasn't in a cave."

"It was," Primal corrects the girl, as his helm was turned down to the two woman on the rock, completely missing the male in front, "but we moved it long ago to keep it safe."

"Where is it now?"

Primal looks up at Airazor's question, before he went to start moving on his fists, while eyeing the humans who cowered back a tad in defences, "Come with me."

The three humans all shared a look between each other, and (Y/N) nodded her head to motion follow after Primal to them. As they went to walk off towards Primal, the Diaz girl notices the corrupted mark on Airazor's wing.

"That doesn't look so good." She says in concern, wanting to raise her hand to touch the robots wings, but stopped herself from doing so. This wasn't good, the girl could tell, sense that much.

Airazor's optics softened on the girls form, and rustled her metal wings a little bit, "When Scourge touches you, he leaves a mark." The eagle sighed heavily, and looked away from her, "But I'll be alright."

(Y/N) opened her mouth to protest at the robots words, but was too late to say anything as Airazor took off into the air with a flap off her wings. The human girl frowned watching that, and went to walk forward to where the group was, but yelped startled when her figure was scooped up into a massive metal servo.

"Hey, sweetheart." The familair voice of Mirage's voice sounded in her ears, as she slowly opens her eyes up, and was met with his face grinning at her, "Thought you would want a ride again."

She half flushed at his words, and saw the suggestive smirk forming over his dermas. She was sat on his servo palm, as he was walking through the water and at the back off the group that was getting lead by Primal.

"Well, thanks I guess." She grumbles with an eye roll, fingers holding onto his metal digits to not full off, and pointed to his shoulder, "Can you place me there, please? I feel like I'm about to fall and die."

He broke into a loud laugh that startled some of the group up in front, making her shush him embarrassed at their quick glances back at them, and spotted Noah waiting for them near a rock with a scowl.

Mirage soon stops at her pleading, and lifts one of his digits with his free hand up to her, "I'd never drop you, sweetspark." He admits in soft voice, and runs his digit across her cheek, getting rid off some dirt on there, "But if you want up, I won't complain."

She felt a shiver travel through her spin at the cold metal on her cheek, and avoided eye contact with him flustered, as he gentle placed her on his shoulder, "That's nice to know.." She mumbled, while playing with her bracelet that had stopped blinking as soon as she made contact with Mirage. Not that she noticed though.

He hummed knowingly with another charming grin thrown at her, both of his servos now down away from her, and he gentle bumped his helm against her head while they walked, leaving it there to rest.

"Hey, back there, you called Noah Sonic." (Y/N) started talking after a few minutes of comfortable silence between them, and crossed her legs to sit more comfortable on his shoulder plate.

Mirage nodded his helm against the side of her head, and shrugged his body a little bit, as he carefully walks through a bunch of rocks through the water, "Yeah. Your little bro's got this thing about using real names over the airwaves so..."

She turned to him abruptly, and raised her eyebrows in a shocked manner, "Wait, have you been talking to Kris?" She questioned confused, and held onto the metal on the side of his helm for support to look at him.

"Uh-huh, baby." He confirmed with a smug look thrown at her, and lifted his metal arm to show her the radio stashed inside of it, "He gave me this to keep tabs on you, and Noah. Make sure I'm keeping my promise."

She smiled gentle a little bit, knowing only her younger brother would do something like this. He was always thinking of others first, something he picked up from her, "Oh wait, by the way-" She began in a more panicked way, and pointed to the object on Noah's wrist, who was walking a few feet in front, " Next time, include warning labels."

He made a playful scoffing noise, "You guys handled it perfectly." He tells her with approval, before his helm turned towards her, optical lids lowering a bit and grinned mischievously, "Just don't ask what part of my body it came from."

She stared like a gaping fish for a few seconds, before she broke out into an flustered mess realising she had that piece near her mouth, and touched it, "Mirage! That's so disgusting-!"

He giggled in a higher pitched voice and raised his servos up in surrender at her constant insults thrown at him now, "At least you don't know where you're bracelet comes from."

"What! What's that supposed to mean-!?"

.....

Now at the front of the group trailing through the forest, (Y/N) was walking with Elena beside Primal in the water, as the two girls tried not to touch the ground but stay on the dry rocks.

"So, who are you?" (Y/N) asked curiously, as helped Elena over a rock down to her, and faced back to the Autobot once she was over.

"We Maximals are an advanced race. Dedicated to the expansion of life throughout the universe." Primal answered her, and began to explain what his race exactly was to them both, "We use the Transwarp Key to visit young worlds."

She hummed in response to his words, gripping the backpack around her shoulders that Mirage offered to carry bout she declined as she could hold it. Her (E/C) eyes catch Cheetor over her shoulder, who was trailing behind silently, and his tail started swaying noticing her stare on him, making her giggle quietly.

"The Nazca Lines? The temple at Tikal?" Elena was listing things off enthusiastically, and hoped up onto the muddy path that was dry, "That was you guys, right?"

Primal turned his helm towards the girls a little bit, spotting Cheetor up beside (Y/N) who was patting his side sometimes, "Not us." He admits in a chuckle, " We cannot claim credit for human ingenuity."

"But you had the key." Optimus stated from behind the four confused, and paused his walking with a frown over his optical ridge, "Why stay on this world?"

"When Unicron destroyed our world, we took an oath dedicated to the preservation of life." Prime answered the other leader, briefly looking over his shoulder plate at him, "No matter the cost. And Earth has been a safe refuge."

.....

The group of humans, and robots slowly had arrived at a small village hidden away in the mountains, it being very homely, and didn't have that many people living inside it. The sun was also going down, casting a nice ethereal glow over the landscape the brought out the features more.

Amaru, the native who was the leader in the village stopped his chatting with his wife, and stood up to greet Primal seeing them all coming. A few children run out of their huts with happy laughs at the arrival of the new comers, and rush over to where they were.

"I'm glad you visit my village, old friend." Amaru spoke in his native language, and gripped his staff inside his hand more with a head bow to Primal.

Primal copied his bow movement in respect, and greeting, "How are you, brother?" He answered back in the same language, before turning back to the others for introductions.

(Y/N) was standing next to her brother, and Elena near some long grass in front, and smiled to herself spotting all the children running around excitedly throughout the village. Her eyes just catch Mirage waving cutely to some villagers also, making that smile grow wider.

"This is Amaru. He and his family are the last descendants of a tribe that has watched over us for hundreds of years." Primal began to explain his group, and motioned with his helm to the male walking back into his village, "When we arrived, they shared their world with us. And together, we protected its people and our secret."

One of Amaru's children had brough out something in her hands, as she stood next to her father. He unwrapped the object slowly, to show it was the part of the transwarp key the group were needing.

The (H/C) haired girl stepped forward a little bit seeing this, eyes wide and curious as she glanced at the key. She shared a small smile with Elena, and looked to Noah, expecting a similar expression but saw a frown on his, setting off a bad feeling in her stomach.

Optimus lowered his knee pad to the ground, and leant his right metal arm on it, as he stares at Primal with a surprised expression, "You allied with humans."

"We did."

The Autobot vented to himself, before scrunching his servo up confidently, "If you give us this key, tomorrow, I will light the beacon and bring Scourge."

"The Maximals have already sacrificed one home to protect the universe. I won't risk losing another." Primal shuts down the idea with his optics glancing down at the ground, and away from Optimus's ones, "As a leader, I know you understand."

Optimus hangs his head down sadly, already knowing this was true. Behind them, Stratosphere turns into his robot form, holding Bee's lifeless figure in his servos, and gently sets Bumblebee's body on the ground. Primal watches with Airazor by his side, a little away from them all.

(Y/N) was standing by Optimus' pedals watching the scene happen, and slowly walks up to Bee's figure resting on the ground. She frowns sadly, and places her hand his chest plate, trying to feel for his spark, but unfortunately found nothing still.

However, she did see her bracelet light up a little bit which once again confused her greatly, and lifted her hand up from Bee's chest.

"Optimus, come. I want to show you something." Primal ends up breaking the moment, causing the said male's gaze to fall on him, and take this as his que to follow along.

As they goes off, Airazor's programming glitches with the corruption growing inside her, making her once yellow optics become orange, and no one ended up noticing it.

.....

The land of Peru had succumbed to the embrace of nightfall. The vibrant colours that once adorned the sky now gave way to a tapestry of deep blues, and velvety blacks, scattered with the twinkling lights of distant stars.

(Y/N) found herself away from her brother, and growing best friend, seated beside a crackling campfire that casted dancing shadows upon the rugged terrain. Around her shoulders was a blanekt, and inside her lap was Elena's notepad full of notes that she was going through to read.

She needed some time alone to think about everything that's happened, and also really wanted some answers about her families heirloom around her wrist, as her thoughts wandered amidst the flickering flames.

Her fingers flicked through the pages gently, glancing over them the best she could with the fire's light, and crossed her legs over the wood she was sitting on more. She goes back and forth between the two symbols drawn by Elena in the pages, frowning confused as she had a weird feeling they meant something, but couldn't put her finger on it.

Heavy metal footsteps suddenly sounded from behind her, and they ketp getting closer to where she was resting. (Y/N) didn't need to look up knowing who it was already, and felt a metal body slide down next to her on the ground.

"Hey, sweetheart." Mirage's familiar playful voice was heard, as it was now serious and softer, and his vibrant blue optics scanned her figure, "What's going on in that pretty little head of yours?"

She nibbles on her bottom lip nervously, and flicks one more page over before looking up at the male who meant a lot to her, "Nothing really..." She trailed off in thought, and glanced away from him quickly.

He didn't like her doing that at all. So, from his spot on the floor beside her lower half, he reached up two digits, and gently grabbed her chin to direct her gaze back to his, "(Y/N)," He began, voice a comforting presence amidst the quietude, "Don't lie to me. I can sense something is wrong."

She pulled her chin out of his warm hold despite the metal being cold, and didn't look away this time, "Well, if you want to know that bad," She started off quietly, and placed the notepad shut in her lap, "I think Noah is hiding something from me, and I guess... I'm just.. scared."

His optical ridge rose confused at this, before it slanted down into a soft frown, "Why would he do that?" He questioned hesitantly, and leant one of his arm over the log she was sitting on, "Cause if he is, I'll gladly give him a piece of mind. No one hurts my girl like that."

She chuckled fondly hearing his words, appreacting the comfort and safeness he's brought her ever since they first met, "I honestly don't know if he is," Her eyes look over to where Noah was with Elena, seeing them in a serious conversation, "maybe I'm just overthinking? This entire jounery has me on edge, and the fact that Scourge is probably on his way right now-"

His servo quickly reached out to take her much smaller hands in his, and squeezed them gently hearing her breathing picking up with each word, "Hey, hey, it's okay." He cooed reassuringly, and brought up her hands to place them on either side of his face plate, "Breathe, (Y/N). You're okay. Nothing's going to happen to you, not as long as I'm here. I promise."

Her fast breathing soon levelled out focusing on the touch of his face plate, and voice as her chest slowly steadied as well. She inhaled shakily, "I'm not worried about me," She admitted in a whisper, and gently rubbed her thumbs over Mirage's metal cheeks, tracing the few lines on them, "I'm scared of what Scourge will do to get the transwarp key."

He pushed his cheek plates into her palms with a nuzzle, and relaxes into the touch with a soft smirk thrown up at her, "Like I said babe, he ain't got nothing on me and the others."

She snorted under her breath amused at how confident he was being, like usual, and brings back down her hands to rest in her lap, "Yeah, you're right." She replied with a smile sent at him, before holding up the bracelet that was once around her wrist, "You know what this is, don't you?"

"Uh-huh." He hummed lowly in answer, and sat up more on the ground from his slouched position, "This is Cybertron technology," He gently took the bracelet from her, and held it against his chest, where the two glowing lines of electric blue met, "watch closely."

A sudden mesmerizing light started to radiate from the bracelet and his chest. The glow illuminated the immediate surrounding around them, casting a soft, otherworldly hue upon their campsite. With each passing second, the bracelet and his chest seemed to glow brighter together, in sync almost.

(Y/N)'s eyes widened in awe as she witnessed the light show, the glow brightened up her face features more for Mirage to see, and he thought she looked so beautiful under the ethereal illumination.

"So, that's why it was lighting up under ground when we were so far apart, and when I was in danger..." She gasped to herself in understanding, as he removed the bracelet from his chest, and caused the glow to fade away, "But, how-?"

"Not sure, sweetheart. Though, I will say," He spoke with a gentle voice tingled with concern, and gave her back the bracelet before glancing up to the dark sky, "I think that heirloom, and me, are connected somehow. And maybe, even us."

She blinked rapildy at his words in confusion, and looked down at the bracelt around her wrist now. The one's who had given it to her were her parents, but she never met them nor had memory of them, which was odd in itself. Then again, sometimes things are better to be left alone and not questioned.

The flames of the fire burning mirrored the flicker of curiosity in her eyes, as she suddenly grinned brighlty, heart beating happlily knowing in someway she was connected with Mirage, in a way most humans could never be.

He yelped in a high pitched voice spursied, when she moved across fast to him, and jumped into his oversized lap, wrapping her arms around his neck in a hug. Her cheek was pressed against where his Autobot symbol was, and her knees were bent on his metal thighs.

Mirage's spark felt warm inside his chest at her touch, and sighed softly as he leant into the hold, nuzzling his helm back into her cheek, contently. He pressed one of his servos to (Y/N)'s back, and returned the comforting hug, while his optics fluttered closed.

Over across from the other fire with Elena, Noah had turned his head to the right, and squinted a little bit to see what was happening. His face drops into an conflicted frown watching as his sister and Mirage hug each other closely, truly wondering if he should really destroy the transwarp key or not now.

.....

Morning had arrived in Peru's majestic mountains, casting a soft, golden glow around the rugged terrain. The lingering mist that clung to the peeks, added to the ethereal touch, and a hazy fog littered the air all around.

Throughout the night, (Y/N) had fallen asleep on Mirage's chest, and he ended up bringing her to bed, placing her gently inside of it, and tucked her in. Now stirring from her slumber sensing it was the next day, her eyes fluttered open with a tried groan.

She looked down at the blue blanker around her figure, taking the material in between her fingers with a soft smile releasing Mirage tucked her in last night. Pulling off the sheet, she stands up with a big stretch, and glanced to the other huts next to hers, seeing Noah and Elena still snoozing away.

The gentle morning breeze blow her messy hair around, and caressed her cheeks in welcoming. A sudden shiver passes down her spin as she looks out at the foggy environment, and pulls her brothers jacket around her more.

She gave one last look to the other two, and faced the front to start walking down the pathway, and eventually came across a twitching, and glitching Airazor, who didn't look good at all.

An distorted bird cry left her beak, followed by more twitching and weird movements from her metal body. (Y/N)'s stomach dropped watching this, and slowly went to circle around to Airazor's front, "Are you okay? Airazor?"

However, as she circled the robot, she definitely wasn't expecting what she was met with, and it made her (E/C) eyes go wide in horror.
