The world is not black and white.

For some, it is an array of brilliant pastels, the warm yellows of the sun, the soft light of stars and open arms, a masterpiece made with a careful hand and time, time, time.

For others, it is the murky gray of the very bottom of the ocean, the angry red of blood and tear-stained eyes, muddled browns and bone-dust of dead things, a storm cloud of roiling dark colors and time, time, time.

The world is many things, but it is not black and white.

A society of humans that have achieved the next level on an evolutionary scale, of heroes and villains, would have you believe so. It would have you believe that supernatural abilities dictate the difference between good and evil. That some are on a predestined path in the light while others are fated to rot in the shadows. That some should not exist altogether.

A society of fame and power would have you ignore cries for help in favor of the spotlight. It would demand the impossible of you and release its fury on you failed. It would demand that you step where it tells you to step, fight what it tells you to fight, save what it tells you to save. A society such as this would ignore its own shortcomings and blame the outcome anything else. Correlation, it would say, not causation.

In a society such as this, there are many types of people. Those who claw their way out of obscurity. Those who bathe in the light. Those who sink into the darkness and let it overtake them.

And those who stare up at society's vicious gaze, bare their teeth, and grin back.

whOOO this took forever to finally do!

this theme is largely inspired by -majesticsbutter i have a lot of respect for how much time and effort chayse puts into the aesthetics of her books.

so this is my take on the ever popular "vigilante au" except it's chock full of my ocs because that's how i do things around here. if you've stalked by spam and/or art book (as i do with all my friends ofc) then you already know that i've talked about this idea for a few months (how long has it been i literally have no concept of time anymore).

i kept putting off writing this because "oh well i don't have enough to write it yet" and "oh well it's just not ready yet so i shouldn't write it" but no more!! even if i drop this after three chapters or whatever, at least i tried!! especially since i haven't written as much i would have liked over the past summer.
