CHAPTER TWO: PREFECT MEETINGS AND NEW PARTNERS

        ELYNA reaches the compartment where the prefect meeting was being held and lets out a breath of relief when she realizes most of the prefects weren't even there yet not even the head boy or girl. She sighs and takes a seat in the corner when the compartment door slides open to reveal Tom Riddle and his shiny new badge saying prefect. Elyna groans inside of her head but she can't say she isn't surprised as Tom was the 'perfect' student.

"Riddle" Elyna greets politely always remembering what her mother says about good manners.

"Achard" Tom greets back taking the corner seat across from her, Elyna oblivious to his skittish glances.

"I see you have also been made prefect as well" Tom says glancing down at her badge.

"Yes! and I see you have also been made prefect, yay for me" Elyna says with a snarky smile and Tom smirks at the curly haired girl.

"Most girls would die to be in my presence I mean they practically kiss the ground I walk on; I'm surprised you aren't Achard" Tom smirks at the girl watching as her face reddens in anger but before she could open her mouth all of the prefects walk in and right behind them are the chosen head boy and girl.

"Shall we get this meeting started?" The head boy from Ravenclaw, William Wilson asks with a small smile on his face.

"Well, first off congratulations to all of our new prefects! You were all personally hand-picked by your head teacher for your exceptional behavior and grades." The head girl from Gryffindor, Reece Goodall, congratulates us all with a smile on her face.

"And second of all we have some new things being added to the list of things to do." Reece says grabbing a piece of paper from her robes to read off the list of added things.

"The first thing is a buddy system; each prefect will be paired with another prefect to monitor the halls late at night for everyone's safety" Reece reads off the piece of paper some of the girl prefects from other houses sighing dreamily as they glance over at Tom who doesn't spare them a glance.

"The pairs will be Dean Jackson and Kaylee Addington, Victoria Bryant and Benjamin Weston, Tom Riddle and..." The remaining girls sitting at the top of their seats besides Elyna who glares at Xavier Lopez who was looking her up and down, practically drooling over her. She just prays she doesn't get partnered with him she would rather die than be partnered with Xavier or even be partnered with Tom Riddle and that's saying something since she really doesn't like the boy-

"And Elyna Achard..." Elyna looks up in shock as the rest of the girls slump back into their seats with frowns, glaring at Elyna.

Elyna glares at the floor leaning back on her seat before glancing up at Tom who smirks at the girl. Elyna quickly turns her glare to Tom before shaking her head and returning her attention to Reece who finishes up pairing everyone up and moving onto another topic. After 30 minutes of talking Reece and William dismiss everyone to leave, Elyna being the first to leave the compartment Tom not far behind her with a charming smirk on his face.

"Seems we're partners now" Tom teases but Elyna ignores the boy until they pass a compartment where Cyril, Abraxas, and Orion sat along with Nicholas Rosier.

"Tom! We've been looking for you" Nicholas says as he opens the door to the compartment cutting their conversations short.

"Oh, look who it is Ms. Elyna Achard!" Abraxas smiles in joy at the sight of Elyna.

"Abraxas" Elyna greets with a small smile greeting the rest of the boys who politely greet her back, one a little more excited to see her.

"Elyna! have you thought of my marriage proposal yet?" Orion yells earning him a smack to the head by her older brother, Cyril, who glares down at the boy.

"Don't talk about nonsense it causes my smacking reflex" Cyril glares at Orion who smiles at his friend.

"Just joking... although your sister is looking more fi-" Orion begins to flirt but Cyril smacks him again before he could finish his sentence.

"Oh, look there it is again" Cyril says causing Elyna to giggle at her brothe's antics.

Tom just huffs in annoyance bumping his shoulder against Elyna's to enter the compartment. Elyna sends a soft glare to the boys back before waving at the rest of the boy's compartment.

"Well, I'm off to go find Ingrid and Charles" Elyna smiles, waving the boy's goodbye before closing the compartment door and back to her compartment where Ingrid and Charles sat.

Ingrid was reading a wizard and witches fashion magazine while Charles was reading about Quidditch. Elyna sighs and takes a seat beside Charles who pats the girl's leg with a 'there,there'.

"What's wrong El?" Ingrid asks peeking over her magazine to look at Elyna who slumps against her seat.

"I have been partnered with Riddle to monitor the halls" Elyna whines pushing back a curl that fell in her face. Cheeks flushed a light pink from the faint anger she was feeling, a scowl forming across her face.

"At least he got hot over the summer" Ingrid smirks causing Elyna to grimace at the thought of her friend fancying Riddle.

"Don't listen to Ingrid" Charles shakes his head at Ingrid who shrugs and goes back to her magazine with a hum.

"If you really feel uncomfortable with monitoring the halls with Riddle than ask Reece if you can switch partners or I can ask Reece if she can figure something out for you" Charles politely offers with a dimpled smile on his face.

"It's fine, besides I don't want to give Riddle the satisfaction of knowing he made me switch partners" Elyna says with a glare thinking of his snarky smirk and comeback.

"Well, if he does anything and I mean anything to make you uncomfortable you tell me, and I'll make sure to give Riddle a lesson he won't ever forget" Charles threatens shaking his fist in the air to seem more threatening.

"Thank you, Charlie but I'm perfectly capable of handling myself" Elyna smirks, her blue eyes twinkling

"Of course, I remember it like it was yesterday" Charles smiles.

"Everyone's been scared of you since you hexed Penny Parkinson for trying to jinx you with the tripping jinx in our fourth year" Charles laughs out loud at the memory.

"Oh! I remember that! That was the day everyone realized that my best friend is the coolest person in the world!" Ingrid exclaims proudly.

"Ah, yes I remember that like it was just yesterday" Elyna smiles, her eyes glazing over as if she was remembering it again.

"And you know what? She never bothered me again after that" Elyna smirks at the thought

"Yeah cause she had those painful warts for three days straight" Ingrid laughs quietly as she continues to read her magazine tutting out loud at some of the outfits that were featured in the magazine.

"All I know is, is that, I'm ready for quidditch season" Charles smiles widely at the thought of flying again.

"Same!" Elyna exclaims, quickly turning to Charles as they dive into a conversation about quidditch. Ingrid stays silent, not sharing the same passion for it as the other two, opting to read her magazine instead.

They stayed like that, talking and laughing, just excited to be on the way to Hogwarts. A place free of the worries and burdens that they had at home.
