CHAPTER SIX - Jss

[ chapter six - jss ]
season six, episode two

THE RED FLANNEL ABI WORE felt softer than anything she had work for years. Deanna invited her over in the morning, the woman still a wreck from the night before—watching the love of her life be murdered as she ordered another man to kill Pete must've been pretty rough. She had given Abi a few clothes that had belonged to former residents, Abi pretty happy with what she was given.

The day hadn't been much, Carl had explained what happened at the meeting, Abi dodging every question he had of the night before—she didn't want to think about it, let alone speak of it. Her eyes pierced into the night sky, it was less starry than last night, Abi remembering when she had seen the figure outside. No, she wasn't going to think about it.

She needed a distraction, the girl was already fully dressed—why not go on a late night walk. Most people were still traumatised from the meeting, everyone having stayed inside most of the day. That meant nobody could see her.

The young blonde forced her shoes on before quietly exiting the house, quietly shutting the door as to not alarm anybody. Luckily for her, Rick was talking with Morgan—Abi had only seen him once, obviously it was when he was either shooting at them or unconscious but she knew that the man had gone insane. According to Rick, he was fine now.

Her mind then went to Enid. The feeling of the girls hand hovering over hers still present in her mind. All she tried to do was tell herself to stop being stupid.

She hugged her red flannel closer as the cold breeze of the night hit her. Fall had begun, it was always her favourite season. Halloween—although her father rarely let her celebrate it—Christmas was just in line. She knew once both those holidays were over, her birthday was next. The thought of her birthday made Abi frown, all she had gotten at her fifteenth birthday was a small happy birthday from the group.

Abi didn't have an exact direction in which she was going. She just didn't want to be in the house anymore, she was missing too much. There were a few places in the community she planned to go to. One of them being the gazebo near the small lake.

As she got closer, Abi made out a figure on top of it. The 15 year old walked closer to see what it was. To her surprise, she saw Enid sitting on the edge of the roof, lighter in hand.

Abi took in a deep breath, unaware of the boy following her. Unfortunately, this time it was not the boy she called her brother. It was one she would grow to hate.

She got closer to the gazebo before carefully climbing it, learning from the times she climbed over the walls to see the same girl. Abi knew she was making noise, so when Enid didn't tell her to leave she walked over and sat beside the girl. Abi watched as Enid's lighter finally flicked.

Abi placed her hands on the edge for support, her eyes never leaving the small light in front of her. She could hear the small movements from the water, as the tiny waves crashed into another creating an echo. What she couldn't hear was the crunching footsteps behind her.

Enid unexpectedly switched her lighter off, before placing her hand on top of Abi's. Abi's breath silently hitched, eyes never leaving the lighter as Enid switched it back on.

The cold breeze of the night left Abi's touch as Enid's warm hand embraced her own. Her breath went back to normal as she slowly began to calm herself.

Ron watched as Enid placed her hand onto the new girl's. Normally someone might just assume they were friends but Ron knew Enid. She wouldn't become friends with someone this quickly, nor become so close with them. She didn't trust people, barely even him. He had just lost his father to Rick Grimes, now he was expected to lose his girlfriend to Abi Greene? He was not going to let that happen.

THE NEXT MORNING Abi had almost forgotten about what happened with 'Beth'. All she focused on was the small interaction between her and Enid. She now changed into a different outfit. A blue tank top sat underneath her grey jacket, the flannel jeans Deanna had gifted her sat around her thighs.

The sadness of the town could not only be heard, but felt. As if the gloom from everyone's bodies was emitting into others.

Maggie caught notice of her little sister walking the streets, going to join her as she realised they hadn't talked in a while.

"Hey," the girl called to her younger sister. Abis blonde ponytail shifted as she turned her head to her sister.

"Hey, is Glenn alright?" Abi questioned as she made her way over to their house.

"Yeah, finished getting check up. What about you?" Maggie asked, worried for her sister. They hadn't talked in a long time.

"I'm fine, just bored." Abi replied, not ever thinking of bringing up what happened to her yesterday.

"Carl told me what happened, how he found you on the living room floor last night. You wanna talk about it?" Maggie said as she placed a hand on her sister's shoulder. Abi bit her lip, upset that Carl had told. She never asked him not to but she hoped he'd have forgotten it.

"I'm fine. Just had a little moment." Abi lied to her sister.

Maggie sighed before nodding. "You know you can tell me anything right?" Maggie said to her sister. Abi nodded thoughtfully. She knew, she just didn't want to. "It's just us now, we have to be there for each other. That's what daddy, ma, and Beth woulda wanted."

Abi nodded, cuddling her body tighter to her sister's after Maggie had wrapped an arm around her shoulder.

"I gotta go check on Tara, you be safe, okay?" Maggie asked her. Abi nodded and watched as Maggie walked away.

ABI HAD STARTED TO REALISE how boring life could get when they weren't on the move or worried about walkers. She hadn't seen Enid much, only when the girl was with Ron. Rick had found a herd of walkers near Alexandria and was hosting a meeting. Abi stayed behind to take care of Judith. Her hadn't seen the baby in a while.

Abi sat on the floor, Judith playing with blocks in front of her. They any had started saying very few words. Mainly just "Da" or "Car".

Judith reached her arm out to the girl beside her, trying to grab her hand. Abi reached with her hand as Judith wrapped her small fingers around Abi's pointer finger. Abi looked at Judith as the baby stared back, a large smile printed across her small face. She knew Judith didn't understand what was going on around her. It was good. The baby was one of the most pure things left in the world.

SOON ENOUGH, the meeting was over. And a few days later, the plan was put into action. Abi wasn't sure of their plan, all she knew was that her and Carl had to stay home. The last few days had felt like a bit of a blur. Almost like groundhog day, it was the same again and again.

Now, Abi walked the streets with Carl and Judith. Something they had been doing the past few days. It had made Abi get used to Alexandria more, understand it. She had barely seen Enid, or Ron. Judith sat at the front of her stroller, making small baby noises every now and then. Abi walked on Carl's right as she noticed something. Enid and Ron.

They sat next to each-other, it seemed like Ron was talking but Abi couldn't hear anything. She sighed when suddenly a voice called from behind her. "Carl?" The two teenagers turned around, being met with Gabriel, the man who had told Deanna that their group was bad and would bring destruction to Alexandria and it's citizens.

"What?" Carl replied angrily as they stared at the stiff man.

"You heard what I told Deanna about your group." The man pointed out as Abi pressed her lips into a thin line, annoyed.

"What do you want?" Carl asked as Abi just glared at both of them, wanting to go home and rest.

"It was about me, not you two, or your group. I know that now," Gabriel told the teenagers.

"Good for you," Abi said beginning to turn around. "Wait!" Gabriel stopped her as she looked to Carl, who hadn't moved. "I want to help," Gabriel added. "You tried to teach me back at my church. But i'm ready to learn now."

Only Carl had tried to teach him back at the church. Abi was trying to escape a hospital with her sister and Noah. Two, now dead, people.

"I think you need to tell everybody," Carl instructed the man as Abi rolled her eyes, she just wanted to go home.

"Yeah, I think you're right." Gabriel said before the three began departing. Carl slowed for a moment before saying, "Come by around three. We'll start with the machete."

The two began walking again as Abi looked back to where Enid and Ron were. Ron put his arm around the girl, hugging her. Enid looked towards Abi, making eye contact. The blonde slowed for a minute before catching up to Carl, looking away from the teenage couple.

They eventually made it back to the house, being greeted by Carol. Abi frowned as she sat in her room, pondering about Enid. The girl saw a quick movement from her window. She moved closer, eyes widening as she watched a large man bring a knife to one of the neighbours necks, a loud shriek erupting from their throat before they were put to a terrifying sleep.

Her first instinct was to grab her knife, she ran downstairs, meeting Carl on the way. They reached the bottom of the stairs to see Carol again. "I saw from upstairs," Carl announced to the woman and Abi. "They're coming in from all over."

"You two have to stay here and keep Judith safe," Carol ordered as she ran out the door.

"Stay here," Carl said before running to Judith's room to check on his baby sister. Abi went fully down the stairs before sitting on the floor, leaning against the thin pillar connecting the hallway and living room. Abi's eyes widened as she heard the sound of the back doorknob rattling. All she had was her knife, Carl was the one with the gun.

The blonde slowly made her way over there, making sure to be quiet. She could see the figure of someone trying to open the door, as they succeeded the girl jumped from her spot, ready to throw her knife. She sighed in relief when Enid appeared at the door.

"Hi?" the brunette said, eyes trained on Abi's knife. Abi shut the door behind Enid before saying, "Why didn't you just knock?"

"I have these," Enid pulled out keys that she dropped into Abi's hand. "Didn't want them to have them." Abi walked into the living room, checking the stairs for Carl. "And i wanted to say good-bye." Enid added causing Abi to stare at her.

"What?" She questioned quickly before not allowing the brunette to answer. "Just watch the back door, Carl's upstairs. Tell me if you see any of them coming," Abi instructed, ignoring Enid's previous statement.

"I'm not staying," Enid told her walking forward.

"You're not going. I'm not letting you," Abi said turning towards the front door again.

"Why do you care?" Enid asked, crossing her arms over her chest.

"Because I-" Abi sighed, cutting herself off. "I hope you're my friend. I'm not letting you die." Enid scoffed as she went to say something, getting cut short by Carl running down the stairs. The boy looked confused when he saw Enid but he shook it off.

"We need to keep look out, you two sit down and watch the front door, I'll check the back." Carl instructed as A Enid reluctantly followed Abi, placing her bag down. Carl stood at the back door, secretly giving Enid and Abi their own space.

Abi sat down as Enid went back-to-back with her. They sat quietly before Abi said, "Did you see them?" Referring to the killer people outside the house.

"They're just people," Enid told her. "This place is too big to protect. There are too many blind spots. That's how we were able to-"

Abi knew Carl already was aware of the going over the walls but she didn't want it to be said in front of him. "They got in the walls, but they're gonna die." Abi interrupted her, not caring about the gruesome words that had left her mouth.

"Don't tell me good-bye," Abi told the girl after the moment of silence that kept repeating. Abi felt Enid breathing by the way her back subtly moved up and down at a soft pace. She didn't know why but she kept focusing on that.

You're real. She's real.

"Okay," Enid answered the girl. "I won't."

Abi walked up to the window, checking what was going on. She caught Ron against a tree, panting. "Shit, Carl!" The girl shouted as Carl and Enid joined her, they watched as a man slowly approach the boy. They ran out of the door, the man now chasing after Ron. Carl shot him in the leg as he and Abi went over to Ron.

"Please, please, don't kill me man. Please!" The man pleaded as Carl kept his gun pointed at him. "Help me, please. My leg." Carl began moving closer as the man suddenly grabbed onto him, knocking the gun out of his hands. Abi raised her knife, perfectly stabbing the guy in the neck. He fell limp, dead. Abi made sure he stayed dead as she stabbed him in the head, the same spot Beth was shot. She stabbed him again, the same spot Carl shot Lori. And again. The same spot Michonne finally let Abi's father's life go.

The blood had decorated Abi's face in small dots, mixing in with her light skin as she ripped her knife away forcefully. Her eyes had tears in them, although her mind ignored her actions. Abi's hand reached her face, discarding it of any tears or blood before she faced the two boys..

"Come inside," she told the boy who just stared at her in shock and fear. Carl looked at the girl he'd known since almost the start. The boy couldn't decide if he was proud, worried, or scared. "We can keep you safe," Carl now said to Ron after picking up his gun.

Ron turned to the door, eyes meeting Enid. His shocked face turned into anger as he faced Abi again. "No," he said walking past her, subtly hitting her shoulder with his. She stared at him in shock as Carl called, "Ron!"

Carl went to go back as Abi stared at the man she just killed, the man she just killed. She didn't just stop him from coming back she was the reason he died. She gulped as her actions only just hit her. Abi was a murderer

"Abi, come on!" Enid's voice pulled her out of the trance as she saw Carl making sure none of the people were around them. The blonde nodded before her and Carl followed Enid inside.

"I'm gonna go check on Judith," Abi spoke quietly as she made her way upstairs.

She smiled as she was met with the babbling baby sat up in her crib. Judith was the one person in the world who could take anyone's mind off of anything. Abi believed she was the reason they got through the road, the baby was the reason they kept going.

After a few minutes the girl looked outside Judith's window. All the people had either left or died. She made her way downstairs being met with Carl in the kitchen.

"Where's Enid?" She asked as Carl motioned to the small room where the back door was. Abi made her way over as she called out, "Enid?" No answer. "Enid?"

There was no one there as Abi noticed a small note in front of the door.

"just survive somehow"

Enid had left. She had left Alexandria and decided to leave a note instead of a goodbye. Abi felt disappointed in herself. She was the reason Enid didn't say goodbye. She just let her leave.

The girl jumped as the timer for whatever Carol was cooking went off. "I'll do it," offered Carl as he went over to the oven. Abi folded the paper, stuffing it in her pocket.

Just survive somehow

author notes -
This story is so hard to write in season 6. There's so many filler parts that I write because otherwise it will be too short. I have ideas for later on in the story though.

I absolutely hated this one, didn't realise how badly it was written till i read it, very sorry for anybody who was put through this before it was edited—although it's just as bad now tbh.

ABI'S FIRST HUMAN KILL !! love this for her bc she goes a little insane soon + after the pike scene in s9, like she's full on miniature carol and i'm so excited to write it.

Anyways,
Byee </3
