LILLIAN sighed for what seemed to be the umpteenth time today. She had a date tonight with Peter and her freaking out about it was an understatement. "Mom!" She called out as she stared blankly at her closet.
Her mother rushed into her room, "What? What's the matter?" Leila asked in a panic tone.
"I-I don't know what to wear," Lillian groaned, looking at her mother with an upset look crossing her face.
Leila sighed, taking a seat on her daughter's bed. "Well, for starters... it's Peter. I don't think he'll care that much with what you're wearing. He likes you for you, not what you wear." She stated as she pointed toward her closet.
"I know. I know, but I still wanna look nice." Lillian shrugged as her mother sighed in defeat.
"Why don't you wear your olive green," Leila paused in thought, "What's it called? Jump romps shorts?" She asked out loud.
Lillian's eye brows furrowed in confusion as she pulled out an olive green romper. "This one?" She asked whilst looking at her mother for a response.
Leila nodded, smiling at her daughter. "That's the one. You look beautiful in that."
Lillian smiled to herself as she looked at the romper jumpsuit. "Okay." She breathed out contentedly.
"Oh, and wear your cute little brown flats." Her mother suggested with a smile. She then pulled out her phone, noticing she got a call-in for work.
"What's wrong?" Lillian's eyebrows furrowed in concern as she put the romper down on her bed.
Leila shook her head, "It's work again." She lightly groaned, putting her phone back in her back pocket. "I'm probably coming home late again tonight." She sighed. "Have fun on your date with Peter, okay? Love you, sweetie." She smiled softly, placing a motherly kiss against her daughter's head.
Lillian nodded, giving her mother a small smile, "Love you, too. Be careful." She said softly.
"You know me. I'm always careful." Her mother chuckled, leaving her daughter's room and heading out to work.
She heard a knock on her door, "Hey, sis. I know you got a date with Parker, so I'm gonna head out with my friends." Her brother stated.
"U-Um, okay." She breathed out as she looked over her outfit that was laid on her bed.
"Love you." Her brother called out as he started to leave her room.
"Yep, love you too." She spoke as she started to feel uneasy once she heard the front door close after her brother. She took a deep breath, closing her bedroom door and changing into the olive green romper. She then went to her bathroom and straightened her hair. Once she was done she applied very light makeup to cover up the bags underneath her eyes and mascara. She left her bathroom and put on her brown flats that her mother suggested for her to wear.
She started feeling her chest tightening as she let out shaky breaths once she picked up her phone to check if Peter had texted her- nothing. She paced around her room as anxious butterflies erupted in her stomach unwillingly. Her hands feeling shaky and clammy, she tried her best to calm herself down. She took long and deep breaths, anything to keep herself calm, but nothing seemed to work which only made her worry more. She had no idea why she was suddenly feeling like this and that only made things worse.
She felt her body going numb as tears welled up in her eyes almost threatening to fall down her cheek. She looked up at the ceiling as she sat on the edge of her bed. She felt like something bad was going to happen and that terrified her as she only thought of the worst case scenarios. Lillian felt herself beginning to hyperventilate as she found it hard to breathe. She clutched onto her bed sheets, feeling as if the room was spinning . She heard the front door open and then shut afterward as she thought that someone had broken in.
She felt like she was glued down to her bed as she shut her eyes tightly waiting for the worst to happen. There was a knock on her door and soft voice spoke after her bedroom door opened slowly. "Lills?" She heard Peter say once again, but still had her eyes shut.
Peter rushed over to Lillian, placing the sunflowers he got for her on her bed as he crouched down on the floor in front of her. "Lills, breathe. It's okay, I'm right here. Everything's gonna be okay." He said softly as he held her hands in his whilst caressing them with his thumbs. "Breathe in. Breathe out. Like me." He whispered as he took in deep breaths and exhaled whilst trying to get Lillian to do the same, but she didn't budge.
Lillian choked on her sobs as she clutched harder onto Peter's hand and her eyes still shut. Peter grew worried as tears were now threatening to fall down his cheeks. He's never seen Lillian this bad with her anxiety. He squeezed her hands reassuringly before dropping them and replace his hands on her face softly. His lips inched closer to hers, fully placing his lips against hers with a gentle, longing kiss.
His thumbs caressed her cheeks as he wiped away her tears. He slowly started to feel Lillian's hands clutch onto his wrist and her breathing becoming steady. He pulled away from the kiss, resting his forehead against hers as he shut his eyes in relief.
"I-I'm sorry." He heard her whisper.
He shook his head whilst shushing her, giving her a small smile. "It's okay." He whispered reassuringly as he looked down at her, his hands still placed on her cheeks. "Just keep breathing for me, okay?" He said softly as she nodded whilst letting out a deep breathe. He placed a feather-like kiss against her forehead as they stayed in her room until Lillian was fully okay.
"I'm sorry I ruined our date." She spoke softly as she raise her head up to meet his soft gaze.
He shook her head, his eyebrows furrowed in disagreement. "You didn't ruin anything, Lills." He whispered as he held her hand. "We can just skip going out for dinner, if you don't feel like going to a restaurant or a diner." He suggested, giving her a reassuring smile. "Besides, that wasn't the best part of the date."
Lillian chuckled softly as she looked at Peter in bewilderment. "What do you mean?" She asked.
Peter let out a nervous chuckle, "Um... I think it's best if you follow me." He smiled as he stood up, placing his hand out for Lillian.
Lillian raised her eyebrow at him, taking his hand hers. "O-Okay." She said softly as Peter led the way.
They left Lillian's apartment as Peter led the way up to the rooftop, which was Lillian's favorite place to go to calm herself. The rooftop was decorated with a little a pillow and blanket fort and a white blanket that was being held against the brick wall with webs. Lillian looked around also noticing a little picnic basket and a projector near the fort that was facing the white blanket on the wall.
She scoffed in disbelief and awe, turning around to face Peter. "You did all this?" She asked softly with a loving smile.
"Y-Yeah, I-I figured since this y-your favorite place to go to y'know escape from the world... I thought why not make it our first date." He shrugged, snaking his arms around her waist as he smiled softly.
"I love it." She whispered against his lips. "Thank you." She said before giving him a short yet meaningful kiss as she smiled contentedly.
Peter only gave her a smile as he blushed a light shade of red. He took her hand in his as they sat in the fort. He grabbed the picnic basket as he pulled out some sandwiches for the both of them. Lillian smiled, giving him a soft thank you as Peter turned on the projector and started the movie.
Lillian gasped, "You did not." She whispered as she playfully nudged Peter once she realized what movie was starting.
"I did." He chuckled. "How could I not? 13 Going on 30 is your favorite movie." He stated as his gaze met hers.
"Peter-"
"I also brought Tangled a-and Jurassic Park." He nervously scratched the back of his neck.
Lillian placed her hand behind his neck, pulling him toward her as she softly placed her lips against his. Her free hand coming up to caress his cheek as his head tilted slightly to deepen the kiss. Peter smiled into the kiss as Lillian pulled away whilst raising her head up to meet his loving gaze.
"I- thank you." She spoke softly with a smile as Peter smiled at her adoringly in return.
They both eat their sandwiches together as they watch the movie. Peter pulled out a few fruit snacks and some juice boxes from the picnic basket sharing it with Lillian. Once they started watching Tangled, their backs were laying against a big pillow. Lillian's head was laying against Peter's chest as his arm was securely wrapped around her. Both feeling content and at ease with each other's presence.
"Lills?" Peter spoke up softly during the floating lanterns scene.
Lillian hummed in response too invested in the movie. Peter fiddled with Lillian's fingers in his as he contemplated his next words.
Peter sighed softly, "w-will..." he cleared his throat before continuing, "will you be my girlfriend?" He asked looking down at her full of hope.
Lillian raised her head to meet his soft brown eyes, giving him a soft kiss. "I'd love to." She smiled against his lips.
