006.

The scarecrows head falls off the wind shield, showing that Marty was now going to head straight into an open barn. The DeLorean does end up going into the barn and hay is kicked out the door before the roof caves in. A dog starts to bark, Darleen looks around, rubbing her eyes. She looks at a very distressed Marty. "Hey..." She whispers before placing her hand on his shoulder.

Marty begins to break down, "He's gone, Doc's gone." He hugs her tightly, his face hidden in the nape of her neck, she wraps her arms around him, rubbing his back in the most comforting way she can possible. Before the two could continue to calm down, the sound of two voices come from outside. Marty looks out before quickly wiping his eyes.

"I'm gonna try to get help." Before Darleen could stop Marty, he opens the door. He steps out of the car, still wearing the radiation suit making him look like a alien. "Run children! Run for your lives!" The other man—that Marty tried talking to—says to his family as Marty removes the hood off of the suit. "Hey! Hello! Where am I?" Marty asks as he looks around the barn. The other man had ran off, Marty shakes his head before stepping out of the barn.

"Excuse me! Anybody here?" Marty yells before the man bursts out of his home, in his hands was a double barreled shotgun. Darleen unzips the radiation suit as she waits for Marty before a buckshot cracks in the barn wall behind Marty. Her head snaps up, "Shit." Another shot goes off resulting in Marty running back to the DeLorean.

"What the hell is happening?" Darleen asks. Marty doesn't reply and just speeds off out of the barn, running over a fence as he did before turning out onto a dirt road.

——

It's now morning. Marty drives on the dirt road, driving past a sign that read 'TWIN PINES RANCH' before turning onto the main paved road. Marty is out of breath and even more disoriented than before, Darleen had drifted off to sleep. "Okay, Marty get a hold of yourself. There's gotta be an explanation for this. It's probably all a dream—one very intense dream. It's all gonna resolve itself."

Marty's foot slams on the break. The DeLorean burns to a screeching halt. The engine dies. Darleen ends up waking up, she yawns. Marty gets out of the car and Darleen does the same. There is farmland for miles along with a sign on the side of the road reading 'Lyon's Estates.' Marty's mouth is open in astonishment.

Darleen looks around and walks over to stand by Marty—she now wears her outfit that she did before she had put the radiation suit on. Marty still wears the yellow radiation suit. The sound of an approaching car catches the attention the two of them. A 1947 Hudson is coming down the road, Marty waves his arms at the car.

The driver reacts in horror before speeding off—not before honking at Marty. "It can't be. It can't be!" Marty turns, ignoring the fact that Darleen was leaning against the hood/trunk of the car. He looks back into the car, the time displays 'Present Time: Nov. 5, 1955, 6:23 a.m.' 'Destination Time: Nov. 5, 1955, 6:00 a.m.' and 'Last Time Departed: Oct. 26, 1985, 1:35 a.m.' Suddenly, the display goes black as the car dies.

The plutonium gauge reads 'Empty.' Marty turns the ignition key, but the engine won't start. He tries it again, and again—each time the starter sounds worse. "So—we're stuck?" Darleen asks as she looks at Marty over her shoulder—as if to answer her—the engine fully dies. Marty hits the steering wheel in frustration, he looks at Darleen, "Yep."

Marty takes off his radiation suit, leaving him in his normal street clothes. Him and Darleen push the DeLorean behind the the billboard—hiding it from the view of the main road. Marty takes a deep breath and walks around the sign and down main road, Darleen following closely behind. Up ahead is a mileage marker that says 'Hill Valley-2.'

——

The two arrive in Hill Valley town square, 1955. It's vibrant, bustling, and alive. The teens stare around in amazement—the movie theatre is playing 'Cattle Queen Of Montana' while the record store is selling records with Patti Page and Eydie Gorme on display. Marty drags Darleen to the center of town square and reacts to the clock chiming at 8:30. He drags her around before stopping at a truck promoting 'Red' Thomas for mayor.

Marty shakes his head before seeing a discarded newspaper in the trash. He picks it up and looks at the date, Darleen looking at it over his shoulder. The date is Saturday, November 5, 1955. Marty looks up and sees a woman, "Excuse me, ma'am, but could you um—pinch me?" Darleen quirks her brows but stands back to watch the encounter unfold. "I beg your pardon?!" The woman exclaims, "Pinch me! Pinch me!" Marty says before the woman brings her hand up and smacks him.

She walks off as Marty blinks, "This 's definitely not a dream—thanks a lot!" He yells to the woman. Darleen chuckles before walking up next to him. Marty looks across the street and sees the public telephone sign in Lou's cafe. Marty has the spark of an idea—he grabs Darleen's hand and speeds off to the cafe.

——

A typical cafe/soda fountain of the period, 2 or 3 customers are at the counter. Marty stares at the signs as Darleen looks more at the furniture and customers, all while still holding Marty's hand. Lou—the counterman—spots Marty in his orange down vest. "What'd ya do kid, jump ship?" Marty is snapped out of his daze, "Huh?" Lou gestures to his vest, "What's with the life preserver."

Marty shakes his head, "I just want to use the phone." Lou points behind him, "In the back." Marty looks and sees the phone booth. Marty walks to the booth along with Darleen, he goes to the phone booth and flips through. His finger rests on 'Brown, Emmet L. (Scientist).' 1640 Riverside Dr. KLondike 5-4385. Marty smiles before showing it to Darleen, she smiles also and places a comforting hand on Marty's shoulder.

"Thank God, you're still around." Marty puts in a dime and dials the number. It rings... and rings... and rings. No answer. He hangs up. Marty shakes his head, "He didn't pick up." Darleen frowns before looking back at the page—she sneakily rips it out and puts it in her pocket. The two walk out of the phone booth.

They take a seat at the counter, Marty sitting close to another kid eating very soggy cereal. Darleen sits next to Marty. "Can you tell me where 1640 Riverside—" Before Marty could finish speaking, Lou interrupts him, "You gonna order something, kid?" Marty nods. "Uh, sure, gimmie a tab." Lou rolls his eyes, "I can't give you a tab unless you order something."

"Oh, uh, lemme have a Pepsi free." Marty orders. "Kid, if you want a Pepsi, you're gonna have to pay for it." Lou replies. "Uh, well, just gimmie something to drink that doesn't have sugar in it." Lou gives him a look, he places a cup of coffee in front of him. Lou looks at Darleen, "What about you, kid?" Darleen looks at him, "Oh, just a water is fine." He places a glass of water in front of her.

Marty looks at the bowl of sugar cubes in front of him. "Have you got any Sweet 'N Low?" Marty asks, "Sweet 'N what?" Lou eyes him suspiciously, "Say, kid, you better pay for this right now." Marty nods and places down two nickels to pay for the coffee and water. Marty raises his coffee to take a sip before, "Hey McFly!"
