It's a relief for Sora to witnes Jay's health improving as they collaborated to address his anxiety. The anticipation and excitement in the clinic heightened with the Enhypen tour in Asia, spotlighting their new album "Orange Blood." next week. With Jay's progress, Sora harbored hope that he would shine on stage during the tour, showcasing not just their joint efforts but also the positive impact on his overall well-being.
As Jay departed for rehearsals, a palpable tension engulfed the clinic. Sora found herself entangled in a heated argument with Dr. Choi's secretary over unresolved matters. In the midst of the confrontation, her secretary intervened, trying to shield Sora from the escalating conflict.
Attempting to diffuse the tension, her secretary bought her a coffee and suggested a moment of respite in the clinic's cafeteria.
"So, how's Mr. Park holding up with rehearsals?"
"He's quite focused, getting ready for the tour. Why do you ask?"
"Oh, just curious. You two seem pretty close lately."
"Close? Well, we've been working together a lot." Sora, replied with a knowing look
"Sure, sure. Just work. Nothing more?"
"Why? Got any gossip to share?"
The conversation continued, veering into light banter as they navigated through the cafeteria. Just as they delved deeper, a surprise delivery arrived – a bouquet of flowers for Sora.
The clinic's nosy nurses, always eager to be involved in others' affairs, rushed to her side, their curiosity piqued. Sora, bemused by the unexpected gesture, maintained composure.
"Yah, Miss Sora, who sent this?"
"Is it your boyfriend?"
"Miss Sora, why didn't you tell us you have a boyfriend?"
"And why would I tell you? We're not friends, not even acquaintances," Sora replied coldly, leaving the nurse embarrassed with flaring cheeks. She began walking with her puppy-like secretary following behind.
He chuckled at her behavior and said, "You were really cool back there. I admire you, Sora."
"Jung Suk-ah, let's not forget our formalities here, okay? You can call me Sora outside, but not here." Then, Sora took the bouquet and read the card, smiling discreetly. It was Jay, telling her to wait for him because he'll take her home. Unbeknownst to her, the young boy next to her was reading it too, fuming with jealousy.
In her office, Sora delicately arranged the heliotropes in a vase, placing the card in her purse. Known for appreciating even the smallest gestures, she pondered the significance of the flowers. Knowing Jay's penchant for symbolism and meaning, she decided to search it up online, surprised by what she found.
"Eternal love," she mused aloud, raising an eyebrow at the unexpected discovery.
"Why would he give me this?" she questioned, a bit uneasy about receiving something that symbolized eternal love.
Love, she thought.
As time passed swiftly, Sora left the clinic and found Jay waiting for her, this time with yet another car. She couldn't help but wonder how many cars this man owned, a thought lingering as she, still unable to buy her own car, entered his vehicle.
Greeting him upon entering, she was taken aback when Jay surprised her with a kiss on the cheek. Uncertain of how to respond, she played hard to get, mostly ignoring him throughout the ride. At a red light, Jay turned around to retrieve something from the backseats – a Chanel bag.
"Open it," he said.
Surprised, she unveiled the contents and pulled out a purse. It was the Chanel shoulder bag from the winter 2024 collection, not even available in stores yet. She looked at Jay, smiling widely, expressing her gratitude. In return, she gave him a kiss on the cheek, appreciating the gesture, even if it wasn't an overly affectionate response.
As they reached her home, Sora opened the door and retrieved the card from her purse, placing it in her room alongside her new Chanel bag. From a distance, Jay observed her, mentally noting her appreciation for acts of service and gifts.
With a plan in mind, Jay let Sora relax in the living room while he took charge of preparing dinner, looking like malewife, wearing the Hello Kitty apron.
Sora, engrossed in a Sigmund Freud book despite her disdain for the man, managed to finish around 10 chapters. Jay, still cooking in her kitchen.
Opening her phone discreetly, she navigated to TikTok, searching for edits of the man currently busy in her kitchen. Lost in the edits, she giggled to herself, unaware of Jay's presence. Lowering her phone, she suddenly found Jay staring at her with his infamous smirk.
"Why bother watching me on screen when you can have the real thing?" he quipped, catching her off guard. Flustered, she followed him to the dining table, her hand in his, as he guided her for a meal he prepared with his own touch.
Jay, proud of his creation, described the Gordon Ramsay-inspired dish with enthusiasm, "Tonight, we're indulging in a culinary masterpiece – a succulent beef Wellington, perfectly seared and encased in a flaky puff pastry, accompanied by a rich red wine reduction."
"Where are the flowers that I gave you?" Jay asked, breaking the silence.
"I put them in my office," she replied.
"Did you like them?" he inquired, prompting her to tear her gaze from her plate.
"I like the fact that they're purple," she responded, standing up and offering Jay a smile. "But I wish you didn't give me those colored flowers."
"Why?" Jay asked.
"Because it might create a misunderstanding," she explained.
Jay stood up, taking a step closer to her. "What if it wasn't a misunderstanding?" he proposed, taking another step. Since she chose to stand still, he found himself much closer to her now.
"What if it means exactly what you think it is?" he continued.
Sora remained silent for a few seconds. "I told you, Mr. Park, I don't form any emotional attachment to my clients," she said, looking back at him. "Please don't get your hopes up; you'll just get disappointed."
"Well, now that you've mentioned it, I must say I'm quite disappointed."
"Engaging intimately on a few occasions doesn't signify anything substantial; I can't provide you with what you desire," Sora expressed.
"Do you even know what I want?" Jay asked. "I'm not after emotional attachment. Dating and such don't interest me."
Sora pondered why, out of all the flowers, he had chosen one symbolizing eternal love. "What exactly are you seeking, then?"
He leaned forward, his lips so close to her ear that she could feel the warmth of his breath, sending goosebumps across her skin. "Physical connection," he whispered. "A relationship without strings attached."
"So, you're suggesting a physical relationship devoid of any emotional ties?" she questioned.
"Why?" he asked, leaning back. "Is sex a surefire way to fall in love? By that logic, can porn be categorized as romance?"
Sora met his gaze with an unamused expression. "I mean," he continued, "sex is a basic human need. You've studied Maslow's Hierarchy of—"
"You don't need to lecture me on something I've learned for my profession," she interrupted.
He fell silent for a few seconds before bursting into laughter, while she maintained a steady stare until he composed himself. Jay straightened up and looked back at her.
"If that's what you're after, you shouldn't have sought out a psychologist," Sora remarked. "You could have easily found someone else for your physical needs."
She turned around as she felt a hand around her wrist. "What if I told you that it's you I want?"
She paused for a moment, letting his words sink in before slowly taking a step back and turning to face him.
"A physical attachment that doesn't lead to emotional attachment, can you truly manage that?" Sora asked, holding Jay's gaze without wavering, and Jay didn't shy away.
"Can you, Sora?" he challenged her, his tone echoing her own challenging demeanor. Jay was not one to back down from a challenge.
Little did she realize that, when she gave Jay her answer, it was improbable to avoid forming some kind of attachment, even in a no-strings-attached scenario. Sooner or later, emotions tend to intertwine. While she might not consider herself a love expert, it should have been clear to her.
