Personality: Kind and selfless, Susan puts others needs before her own. She has a temper, but keeps calm, and only shows anger through passive aggressive behavior. She can get protective, but wants people to know how to handle their own problems. She does not, however, condone violence.
Backstory: Susan was born on December 17, 1756, to Paul and Ruby James. However, she was pretty much raised by her sister, who was only five years her senior.
Two years after Susan's birth, Paul and Ruby had twins, Jean and Jane. Shortly after their birth, Paul died of pneumonia. Ruby became distant, a shell of her former self. This is when Mary practically began raising her siblings.
Life continued, and Susan grew to be fascinated with caring for others, especially physical injuries. She would often go out and find hurt animals and try to help them. And most of the time, she did.
Susan kept growing up, becoming a beautiful young woman. In fact, many men asked for her hand in marriage. But she refused to marry anyone, saying that she didn't have time for a husband.
She was 18 when the revolution began. When the battles began, she snuck away from home. Where there were battles, there was sure to be wounds. Where there were wounds, there was sure to be a need for someone to treat them. And that's where Susan came in.
She helped nurse many injured soldiers back to health. One that stood out among them all was Geoffrey Hutchens. He was a Scottish immigrant who had recently come to America for a better life, away from his family. He and Susan became rather close in 1776, after he was injured in the Battle of Moore's Creek Bridge. The two ended up falling in love, but didn't want to get married yet, because, you know, there was a war going on.
The war continued, and Susan kept being a nurse for the American soldiers. She ended up meeting and becoming quite close with Alexander Hamilton. She once wrote that Hamilton was almost a brother to her.
Almost a year passed after Susan and Geoff met. They reunited after he was injured again, after accidentally shooting himself in the foot. When he recovered, he asked her to marry him, and she agreed. The two wed on March 17, 1777.
Geoff had to leave to fight again, and Susan continued doing what she did. In 1779, the two reunited again and had some touchy touchy time. This would result in their only child.
Geoff had to go fight more, and Susan nursed. In late 1779, she went back home for the first time, realizing she was pregnant. Her sisters quickly helped to take care of her. This is when she found out her brother had gone to fight in the war. Not only that, but Jean had been killed in the Battle of Stono Ferry. Susan was upset, but pretended not to be.
In May of 1780, Susan wrote Geoff telling him he needed to come to her as soon as possible. And he did. This is when he found out she was pregnant. He was elated, and the happy couple spent much time together. But, in June, Geoff had to leave again.
On July 11, Susan gave birth to a healthy baby boy, who she named Thomas. She died barely a week later, on July 16, of childbed fever.
