HOGWARTS:
The Hogwarts students, more especially the seventh years, were vanishing like Artemis. A phrase that Blaise didn't take kindly considering any mention of his cousin put him in a mood. A lot of them hadn't been seen for a couple of months and it had been more noticeable because of the lack of seats in the great hall which meant that the death eaters — correction professors had a clearer sight of who to punish next.
Days felt longer and hope was forgotten just like the liveliness of the castle.
All that was dead and buried.
Lessons were repetitive, the same old drab about purebloods and the importance of staying one. Nothing new, nothing truly significant.
Just nothing.

HOGWARTS:
"Mr Zabini, you haven't seen Miss Zhou, Patel, or Brown have you?" Blaise frowned when he looked up and saw Professor Mcgnagall's defeated eyes. Even in her lessons, she was tired but she kept trying despite herself and those around her the same as other infamous professors. "They were not present in their lessons this morning and I'm well aware of your popularity among your year group."
Students dashed past them in fear of being late for lessons. Punishments would come with breakfast, lunch and dinner nowadays.
"I haven't Miss, sorry," He caught worry flash through her cat-shaped eyes, "I doubt they're far though, they're smart girls, that's what my cousin told me. I bet they know what they're doing," he added quietly hoping she would drop the subject because of the dubious eyes on them.
"I suppose they are," she sent him a sharp nod and just when he was about to turn she said, "Just like Mr Thomas."
He would've frozen in his stance if it wasn't for the public setting, but instead, his eyes narrowed onto hers and he could've sworn her lips twitched upwards if he didn't blink.
"I believe he is, professor."
The seriousness of his voice inspired hope that another of her students was safe. Having not seen or heard from the promising boy in months, no doubt the others were on the grounds she just prayed that they didn't get caught.
That's all she has done ever since the death of Dumbledore.
Hope.

Tuesday, April 21st:
MENTE STRIAE:
"Blaise you div!" Theo hissed, shuffling closer to the boy who burnt another letter he had received from his cousin.
"What?!" he asked, tired and Theo's loudness wasn't doing much to stop that.
Neither of them could focus or stay awake in their DADA which nearly resulted in them getting hexed by Alecto.
"Stop saying you're going to die. That prophecy was pants in 3rd year and we all know it." Theo stressed, feeling a sense of dread looming over them, even though they were surrounded by a tranquillity charm, which tended to do a fat load of nothing nowadays, "What's bringing it up gonna do other than make Daph cry again?"
"I didn't mean to make her cry and she knows that," Blaise snapped, upset because he caused Daphne so much distress, "besides, Arty's notes said she'd been having feelings about it just like me T. Even in her dreams, it's present."
"Well, it's not bloody happening. You won't die."
Most of them were 18 now and that meant they were adults. Birthdays might've been missed but that didn't mean they stopped celebrating the day it arrived. It wasn't like before when they would all barge into rooms and set up breakfast and board games and spend the whole day in their pyjamas, no, it was more doom and gloom.
"Who won't die?" Dean asked, coming out of the bathroom in the baggy clothes Blaise provided him with.
"None of us," Theo said before Blaise could get a word in edgeways.
Living in Mente Striae for months meant Dean hadn't felt the fresh air, even though he had a window to look out of and occasionally open just enough so he felt the sullen atmosphere surrounding the grounds. Seamus was informed of his best friend's safety. At first, he didn't want to believe the Slytherins, but then he noted the slight change in their demeanour when speaking about Dean so he accepted despite needing to know of his whereabouts but that was he disappeared.
Dean grabbed his boyfriend's hand, "Teddy there's a war. I know it's pants but death is a given."
"Are you gonna give him a telling-off for speaking about death?" Blaise turned theo with an offended look.
Theo shook his head, "No because he's nice to me."
"I'm nice to you," Blaise said, reaching for a nearby book and throwing it at him.
"Blimey," the words escaped Theo before he could stop them.
"Careful you're starting to sound like your Gryffindork over here."
"Fuck you!" Theo yelled while Dean just laughed. He does sound like me, Dean happily thought.
"That's better, more cruel, more you."
Theo shoved them away and went to sit down, watching as they followed him, "Alright alright, where's Daph, she's in her dorm right?"
"Yes, waiting for Tori. Apparently, she's been sneaking off, talking about meeting friends in other houses," Blaise informed, getting a sense of deja vu.
Theo made a face, "She doesn't like other houses."
"That's the weird thing, but she shrugs Daph off when she's asked about it."
"well, as long as she safes then it's alright?" Dean suggested in hopes that they wouldn't worry.
Theo sighed, "Is she really safe though? Are any of us?"
"I think you know the answer to that," Blaise sadly answered.

Wednesday, April 22nd:
GIRL'S DORMITORY:
"It's not like they would get married without us," Daphne exclaimed to Pansy who was currently writing a letter to Luna, "besides Arty wants to have a big celebration, so that's nothing to worry about... I would be her bridesmaid and I would be hers. A big cake is what she needs. A big day, a hot day, not too hot so no bloody bees fly around and she doesn't sweat in her wedding dress and ruin the precious pretty fabric you know? I would want the same unless Blaise said he would want to get hitched in the winter which is pretty stupid like the snow would get my shoes wet and the one thing I hate is my shoes getting wet and ruined and then the whole day would have to start over because I can't have that."
"Daphne," the raven-haired witch huffed.
"And what if the boys start throwing around snowballs and decide to make snow angels and ruin their suits, then the day will most definitely have to start over again and one only has so much money. Well, my family are wealthy but who knows mum makes decisions without dad and dad just drinks half the time to block out the screaming and nagging from mum so there's that. But Blaise and I won't be like that even though he routinely goes on about death which makes me upset and he knows that but does it anyway, what's gotten into him, I have no clue... well death I guess... everything is about death and this fucking war and crimes and students going missing... speaking of missing, have you spoken to Luna?"
"Trying to," Pansy grumbled, settling down her pen on the desk and rubbing her temples.
"Tell her she's invited to the wedding, I haven't made an official list yet, well an unofficial one," a groan from Pansy caught her attention, "am I bothering you or something?"
"You're rambling."
"And is that a problem?"
"...No," Pansy slowly answered after seeing the glare burning in the blonde's eyes.
"Good," Daphne clasped her hands together and went back to rambling. If she rambled she didn't think, her mouth would just do that for her even if it bothered other people. It was her only way of coping and not thinking about her best friend and fiancé who could die. "Right then, where was I? Oh yes, death... do you think Potter will die?"
"The idiot escaped death more times than I've changed my hairstyle," Pansy quipped, earning a small smile from the blonde who nervously played with her diamond-encrusted engagement ring. Pansy was used to Daphne coming to her dorm unannounced and rambling about whatever was on her mind. It started in October and became a daily thing in February A couple of days after Artemis' birthday. Pansy never spoke to Daphne this much, out of mutual hatred but they were the few that were left and had no choice but to speak to each other. "What's gonna happen if he does?"
"Everything will change I'm guessing. More than it already has. For the worse, I know this pureblood shit will ruin everything. We grew up with it but my parents only pushed it for you know social reasons, but I will hate it if the world we knew flipped. I mean... would you even be able to see Luna?"
The question stunned Pansy. She felt as if someone shot the 'stupefy' spell at her or a hippogriff charged at her full force and knocked the wind out of her. Would I be able to see Luna? She never thought of that. Never.
Taking her silence as an answer Daphne moved to the end of Pansy's bed, "What if we picked you-know-who's side for protection? Do you think he would grant us favours? I mean his most loyal followers ended up in Azkaban for years and do you think shackles and dementors would be good for this hair?" she flipped her locks over her shoulder, "I mean...didn't that house-elf die escaping Malfoy Manor? You said that he did."
"Luna buried him," Pansy mumbled, trying not to think of the reality of her relationship... with a girl. Would we have to break up? Would be forced to marry a man if Voldemort wins?
"Sweet girl," Daphne voiced, "I suppose we all picked a side, staying here. Well, I think we did, what if our parents come and force us out of fear or because they like the world that it will become."
"But what if he wins?" Pansy asked, turning to face her.
"He? You're gonna have to be more specific hun."
Pansy rolled her eyes, "Potter."
"Then he wins Pans," she laughed at the glare she received, "but he better uses another spell than expelliarmas."
"Right. He always uses it, well unless it's against Artemis," Pansy teased, referring to the bathroom incident.
"Pansy," Daphne gasped and watched as she started to giggle.
"Too soon?"
"Yes too soon, you cow," she smiled and chucked a pillow at the giggling girl.
The joke made her subtly grab her spectre necklace, just in case something happened then and there.
Recovering from her giggling fit, Pansy insisted, "I'm serious though, four eyes will have to use something else or there's no hope for us."
"Is there any hope?" Daphne asked rather seriously.
"I dunno," Pansy shrugged, "not with the way shits going."
"Fanculo le mie vite," the blonde cursed.
"Our lives Daph, our lives." being around Daphne, Blaise and Theo for several hours a day she picked up on a few Italian phrases.
"Fanculo il nostro vite," Daphne corrected.
"Now you've got it. Only took you like what, 6 months?"
"Shut up."
The pair's laughing was silenced when the door abruptly opened making their stomachs flip.
Pansy hastily put away her parchment paper and stuffed it into the desk, whilst Daphne shot off the bed and reached for her wand in her sock.
They couldn't be too careful and the person didn't even bloody knock or shout either of their names like the boys usually did or stomp in like Astoria, so who could it be? Snape would never just barge in and not into the Girl's dorms which lead them to believe it was Alecto Carrow.
Salazar's bloody pole.
All of their worries faded when Millicent walked in with her hair wrapped in a towel, a dressing gown covering her body, slippers comfortably resting on her feet and headphones covering her ears preventing her from hearing her surroundings or noticing the girl's alarmed expressions.
"Millie!" Pansy screeched, rushing up to her best friend and yanking the handset off, "Do you wanna get caught with the walkman, what if one of the carrows sees it?"
The brunette shrugged her off, "I was only in the lavatory. I doubt any of those creeps are spying on me and if they are, they're creeps."
she explained going over to her bed.
"And they could hurt you," Daphne added, still recovering from the nerves buzzing through her body.
"Be careful for goodness' sake," Pansy stressed not wanting anything to happen to her best friend.
Millicent groaned, "Calm down, if you must know Janet Jackson helps me unwind after a shower and now you're ruining the mood."
Daphne watched the pair argument and felt a strange sense of deja vu.
She missed her best friend.
"I guess it's time for me to go," she spoke up breaking up their little fight, they snapped their heads towards her.
Pansy shook her head, "If you wanna stay you can."
"What?" the blonde asked in shock.
Millicent pointed out, "It's not any bother, you're already comfortable, might as well stay."
Daphne winced, "You sure, I don't want to intrude."
Millicent snorted, "That's funny because you do that every second of the day."
"Millie!" Pansy laughed.
Daphne feigned offence, "Bitch."
"I know, but stay," Millicent happily insisted and got into bed, whilst Pansy started getting ready for bed.
Daphne excitedly clapped, "Alright, I'll get my stuff."
The best friends exchanged a look.
"Oh no she's gonna bring her whole trunk," Millicent exclaimed, catching the mirth in Daphne's eyes.
"I have to be prepared," the blonde said.
Pansy laughed in disbelief, "To what? Move in?"
Daphne shrugged and opened the door, leaving the best friends in confusion.
"She's gonna move in isn't she?" Pansy asked, looking at the brunette who nodded.
"Yes, yes she is."

Thursday, April 23rd:
GREAT HALL:
"They're tampering with our letters, they had to have been. Ciara almost injured herself getting this to me." Daphne insisted, feathering to her letter while trying her best not to look suspicious as she glanced around the room that only had a handful of students at each table. Eating their breakfast, luckily Professor McGonagall, Flitwick and Slughorn were present, but the absence of the death eaters wasn't necessarily a good thing. "I'm telling you your mum wrote to me a few days ago and the seal was wonky and her letters are always pristine."
Theo nodded at her, "She's right, Opehlia takes pride in the presentation and would rather be caught dead than have someone catch her sending anything looking remotely dodgy."
The Owl postal service was far too risky, thankfully there was more than one way to get messages across.
"I know, I know she once fired a member of staff because they cut fabric wrong," Blaise looked between the two, "and how often do you talk to my mum?"
"Often," Theo and Daphne said.
"Brilliant," Blaise murmured, rolling his eyes then they looked up when a few owls flew and scattered letters across tables. Ciara wasn't there, nor was Theo's owl. Theo's parents only wrote annually and he didn't expect anything from his father, especially with him being a you-know-what. His mother sent gifts as compensation, which he grew to accept. Blaise turned out his hands to catch a letter which had an M engraved on the seal, which looked slightly obscure, "Yes Daph I know, they must've opened it," he said before she could.
She wanted to say she was right but now wasn't the time. She didn't want to be happy about something like this.
"Who's it from?" Theo questioned, stuffing a piece of toast in his mouth.
Blaise ripped the seal open, "Dad."
Daphne asked, "Go on, what does it say?"
Blaise's eyes darted across the page, taking in the contents and swallowing harshly before passing the letter along.
Blaise,
Your mother forbade me from informing you of my anger and disdain for the current climate we allow you to be in. Yet again at the school of terror, forgive me, I meant Hogwarts, the school of witchcraft and wizardry.
This will not be the first time I've expressed my irritation with the treaty that prevents me from protecting you on school grounds and it shan't be the last. If you find these conditions horrid and if I discover a hair on your head out of place when we reconvene, I will storm that school with haste, as will your uncle and cousin.
Your resilience and bravery for returning even after Christmas break is inspiring and I couldn't be more proud. Your dedication to the ones you love reminds me of how much you're shaping to be an outstanding wizard. That being said, keep my future daughter-in-law safe and young Theodurus out of harm's way.
Love
Always and Forever,
E. Mikaelson
"Aww mate, that's sweet," Theo's hands were slapped away after he tried poking Blaise's cheek.
Daphne nodded in agreement, although part of her wished her father was this honest with his feelings. She and Astoria hadn't received a letter from either of their parents in a couple of weeks, must be too busy arguing, luckily Ophelia had made time to always write to them.
Blaise hummed, "I know, he's turned all soppy. Does he think I'm gonna die or something?"
"Blaise, my love, would you please stop talking about death," Daphne hissed as he put the letter away and went back to his plate of food.
"What? Look how the letter sounds. No wonder they're reading this shit. He threatens to break the treaty every time he writes."
"Mikaelsons threaten everyone. And the letter sounds normal, you're family is expressive, loving, caring, manipulative and quick with memory removal," Theo grinned at the glares they sent as he spoke, "they're heaps better than my family so chin up and shut up. We've got charms."
Daphne and Blaise both groaned, watching Theo stand up from his bench completely full of the plates he consumed. They were glad he was eating properly today, they always had to monitor him, and so did Dean, well, whenever the boyfriends weren't swallowing each other's faces.
"No. I haven't got the energy," Blaise whined and stayed put.
Theo scoffed, "And you think I do?"
"I would rather deal with the Carrows."
"No, you wouldn't," Theo and Daphne said seriously, making Blaise raise his hands in defeat.
"Come on Daph, I haven't spent 6 years copying from you to stop now." Theo joked, earning a playful glare.
Daphne smiled sarcastically, "I know, hardly something I can forget you, thief."
"Not a thief, I'm conserving my energy for something better."
"Or someone," she murmured and stood up.
Theo pointed at her, "Shut it and hurry."
Daphne rolled her eyes and turned to her fiancé who had yet to move, "Hurry husband-to-be, I would hate for a hair to be out of place on your pretty face."
He smirked up at her, "Yeah yeah."

Friday, April 24th:
SLYTHERIN COMMON ROOM:
The burning fireplace wasn't enough to warm the cold atmosphere. The Carrows constantly came in and out of the common room whenever they pleased, which came as a rude awakening since Snape usually stayed in his quarters and only occasionally bothered his house over the years. Just goes to show how much everything changed. Most 1st years Slytherins stayed in their dorms, 2nd years didn't take part in many extra circulars like Quidditch which would've made a bigger impact if half of every house's team weren't missing. 3rd and 4th years were consumed by studying, 5th and 6th looked fragile and agitated and only made their way to and from lessons and back to their dorms again. All while the 7th years were barely holding on.
Blaise sighed, looking around and only seeing the miserable faces that belonged to his housemates. No jelly slugs in sight. Every Flavour Beans, Cauldron Cakes, Chocolate Frogs and liquorice wands were confined to most people's dormitories whereas acid pops, ice mice and Fizzing Whizbees were treated like contraband, according to Amycus Carrow 'they were unnecessary and distracting'. That long-faced git! And let's not start on the normal sweets that were basically banned.
He wanted everything to go back to the way it was. But that meant Dumebldore had to be alive and he didn't want that, no, but everything seemed brighter when the old bat was still kicking with his old-looking clothes and a twice-broken nose. What Blaise wanted was harmony mixed in with a little bit of organised chaos, just like 1st year. Oh, how times were just simpler back then. Sure Draco was arguing with Theo about Artemis, Mente Striae wasn't a thought, Daphne was still his crush and he was setting fires now and then, but it was alright.
Perfect.
What he needed was Harry Potter to win. The boy he mocked and was occasionally civil with, he wanted him to win so this mess... war can be put to bed, so his children wouldn't have to be born through a war like he was like they all were. And also so he could show that his and his cousin's prophecy was a load of crap.
He readjusted his arm around Daphne and looked between his Theo, Pansy and Millicent.
"I'm convinced Voldemort wears La Mente," he announced, making them all tense.
"Blaise," Pansy hissed, whilst his fiancé elbowed his chest.
He merely shrugged it off, "What? Why wouldn't he, it's one of the best brands in the wizarding world."
"Not that you fool," Theo chuckled.
"Don't say his name," Millicent stated in an obvious tone.
Blaise scanned the room and shrugged again, "What have we got to lose?"
He was aware of the taboo curse as were the rest of them, but he'd been saying the man's name for a while now and would continue doing it.
Daphne eyed him, "Our lives,"
He caught the hurt simmering in her eyes and mumbled a quick, "Sorry."
Daphne groaned, "I want you to live to see our wedding."
Millicent ran a hand over her face, "Not the bloody wedding."
"She talked about it for hours I couldn't get a wink of sleep," Pansy complained to Theo who laughed.
He slept like a baby in Mente Striae, it helped with Dean next to him, but he did feel guilty knowing that Blaise was alone and wide awake because he couldn't sleep anymore, worrying about Artemis and Draco and everyone else he loves did that to him.
"You suggested I stay —"
"—a few days ago—"
"—And I never knew you wanted to sleep."
"For someone who cares about their beauty regimen, you don't get a lot of," Theo noted, leaning closer.
"Not recently anyways," Daphne mumbled and felt her fiancé's arms tighten around her.
"That explains the wrinkles," Theo quipped, making the other witches laugh.
Daphne gasped, "Theordus Nott jr I don't have wrinkles, take that back."
"I can see a few."
"Leave her alone, she looks beautiful. Always has," Blaise defended.
"Don't try and butter me up mister, you're in the dog house for all those aggravating comments about dying young," she snapped at him, "you will not die young. Not if I can help it."
"Aren't I always in the fucking doghouse," Blaise mumbled then pulled out a jewellery box, making her eyes widen and everyone watched in anticipation as she grabbed it and opened it.
Pearls. He brought her pearl earrings.
And of course, she squealed in excitement when and lifted them out of the box and lifted them to her ears showing them off to the group who expected nothing less.
"Aren't they pretty?" Daphne tried to limit her squealing as she showed them to the girls who smiled and started to converse.
Theo quietly asked Blaise, "Do you just have them on you—"
"—Whenever I mess up? Yes," he answered whilst the blonde was distracted.
"Clever man."
"Dad told me he does the same with Mum when she's angry with him. Same with Uncle Nik and Aunt Celly."
Theo snickered, "What a happy marriage you're gonna have."
Blaise just shook his head and grinned.
He quickly helped his fiancé put on the pearl earrings which replaced the diamond ones he'd brought for her birthday and placed them into the box.
The couple exchanged a loving smile, then he pressed a chaste kiss to her beckoning lips, before whispering a meaningful I love you. Small butterflies flew around her stomach and his smile reached his eyes. Although they argued, they also made an effort to communicate and appreciate each other. It might've been hard, especially in their current climate. The two might not be perfect but they were right for each other.
Theo and Millicent's gagging broke their spell, they received two playful glares.
Astoria suddenly and quickly stepped through the painting, drawing their attention and making her all flush.
"Where have you been?" Daphne demanded, believing her sister was in her dorm.
The younger sister reeled back as the painting shut behind her, "And who are you, my mother?"
"Watch your attitude."
"Be nice to your sister," Blaise defended.
Astoria shuffled closer and threw her hands up, "Why are you all ganging up on me, I just stepped into the flipping room."
"You do look jumpy," Theo noted.
"I am not jumpy. Maybe if you didn't question me like a criminal I would be fine."
Truthfully she was getting back from a small impromptu meeting that she held with popular 6th-year girls from Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff and decided to include the Gryfinddor but their representation was scarce and made do with who they could get. They all met in the trophy room, near Cedric Diggory's shrine that was now kept hidden away from the Carrow's just in case they wanted to deface it somehow regardless of the protection charms. The girls were talking about ways to defend the school even after the 7th year's leave. The whole thing started when Astoria received a suspicious letter that appeared randomly in her trunk after the easter break, it was from Artemis. And from then she knew what she had to do.
"You looked the same yesterday," Millicent commented.
Astoria glared at her, "And where do you get off judging me?"
Daphne cringed, "No one is judging you, calm down."
"You calm down."
Theo and Blaise burst out laughing, it was as if steam was coming out of her ears.
"Oh just leave me alone," she snarled and turned on her feet, but unfortunately bumped into a tall body.
"Astoria you left this in the common room," Gregory said, giving her a silver brush, that she snatched from his hands and stormed off.
"What's wrong with her?" Vincent asked, approaching his best friend.
"Dunno," Gregory shrugged and hastily made their way towards the group and sat next to Pansy because they knew Theo couldn't stand them.
Theo chuckled at her retreating figure, "Oh, she's trouble."
"Always has been. Now she's just a brat," said Daphne.
"Must be hereditary," Theo teased.
"Sod off."
Once their laughter settled down, Blaise had an idea.
Clearing his throat, he started, "Right, I propose we don't focus on anything tonight, not any of those funny-looking Carrows or thing about any of those death eater blokes, nothing at all. We haven't got anything to do tomorrow apart from worry and stress about shit that coming. We all know it's coming since the school is on its head. Shifted just look how our lives have been since we were born and it's only gonna be put back into place you-know-who," he made sure not to say Voldemort for their comfort, "loses the war."
Gregory interrupted, "He won't though, he's got an army."
"And you wonder why I can't stand you," Theo snapped, making Millicent snort.
But Pansy couldn't help but resonate with Gregory. She thought Voldemort would win and everything would go to shit and she definitely wouldn't be able to stay with Luna.
"M'just stating the truth."
"An opinion isn't truth, truth is truth and just fuck off if you're gonna be negative," Theo hissed, rising to his feet, making Gregory do the same.
Blaise was quick to defend Theo and Vincent did the with Gregory.
Daphne and Millicent exchanged looks, thoroughly enjoying the pissing contest.
"Let's go, mate," Vincent tugged his best friend back, who shrugged him off.
"Might wanna listen to him," Blaise glared at Gregory, "Theo isn't a fan of people ruining my speeches or of you in general."
Shooting them all one last scowl, Gregory stormed out of the room, with Vincent in tow, muttering and cursing under his breath.
Snickering broke the tension and they all turned to Millicent who was crying with laughter.
Daphne joined in.
"Boys and their stupid egos," Pansy muttered, pinching the bridge of her nose.
Theo looked at Blaise who started to grin, which made him crack a smile.
"I just don't like him," Theo stated, lowering himself back onto the couch.
"We know," the girls said through their laughter.
"Accio dragon-whiskey," suddenly a bottle of dragon whiskey appeared and they all turned to Blasie who was standing, "Well I guess we're gonna need this then. Anyone up for a drink up in my dorm?" he just wanted to take the edge off, "one last drink come on."
"Fuck it," Theo huffed out and stood up again along with Millicent.
"Carrows be damned," Millicent joked.
"I hope Merlin curses them," Daphne shrugged at the looks she received, "what?"
"I fucking love you," Blaise spoke with a proud grin on his face she returned and accepted the hand that he offered, pulling her off the couch.
"Pans?" they all turned to her when she didn't move.
The girl's mood had been all over the place today, but noticing excitement on their faces she slowly nodded and stood up.
"Yeah let's go before those fuckers ruin our plans."
They laughed as they exited the room and went to the boy's dorms not realising that it would actually be one of the last times they would all be in the same place.
The same room with the same smiles.
It was a time full of lasts.
And time was running out of the hourglass...
Just like hope was.
