WHEN THE BUS finally arrived to the city of Prague, everyone was left astonished. The city was decorated in beautiful lights and buildings, and the whole town seemed to be celebrating something, since thousands of people were walking down the streets with lights and party hats, yelling out of excitement.
The bus pulled over by the side of the hotel, which was situated in a nice spot of the city and it was already enormous on the outside, but the inside was much more breathtaking. The walls were white with golden details and the roof had a tapestry design on it, and the entire view of the lobby made the whole class gasp in surprise as they looked around.
A pianist was slowly playing the piano to welcome the visitors and (Y/N) enjoyed the tune in her head, but wasn't able to hear it clearly because of her classmates' chatter.
"Whoa, freaking beautiful."
"This is amazing."
"Wow, this place is so classy," Betty said as she walked with Ned by her side, holding his hand.
"Yeah, so why are we here?"
"Speak for yourself," Flash interrupted, his phone in hand while he scanned his surroundings with a cocky smile. " I'm home."
"What can I say?" Mr. Harrington said. "The squeaky wheel gets the upgrade grease. Everyone get settled, rest up, because tonight, big surprise, is Prague's annual Carnival of Lights."
(Y/N) tried to ignore the buzzing inside her jeans pocket, knowing fully well who was calling her. The noise wasn't that loud to interrupt the talk, but MJ was able to hear it and she nudged (Y/N)'s side to gesture towards it.
(Y/N) grabbed her phone and pressed the green button on the screen, moving away from the group as she saw Peter do the same across the circle the class was forming.
"Yeah?"
"Schmidt, it's Hill. There's an earpiece that was placed with your suit. Put it on and await further instructions with your friend. Understood?"
"Okay, yes," (Y/N) winced at her casual tone and didn't get the chance to say anything else since Hill hung up the phone right at that moment.
Peter made his way towards her with a disappointing look. "Got the same instructions?"
"Mm-hm," (Y/N) nodded. "
Ned noticed that the two had distanced themselves from the group and rushed over to them, standing in front of (Y/N) and Peter as the latter greeted his friend with a small nod.
"Look, I am so sorry if I seem like I'm preoccupied with my relationship," Ned said. "I'm still your guy in the chair."
"No, it's all good. Don't worry about it," Peter reassured as he played with the straps of his bag.
"Okay. Great, great."
"It's all right," (Y/N) crossed her arms across her chest and gave a short nod to ease his nerves.
"So, what's the status on the Elemental thing?" Ned continued. "Where's it gonna happen?"
"Uh. . .here in the city."
"Guys, we're here."
"I know. It's not good. We're figuring out."
"You have to do something, please," Ned pleaded. "We're all counting on you two."
"Ned," Betty called from her spot with the group.
"Yeah. Yeah, babe," Ned snapped his head in her direction and left his spot in front of his friends to join the blonde's side.
(Y/N) lowered her head to hide the frustration evident in her face at his words, since that was a phrase she was too used in hearing throughout the last months and instead of helping her, it weighted her down.
She felt a tug in her
"The good news is, we've all got our own rooms," Mr. Harrington announced and the whole class cheered.
โงโโโ ๏ฝฅ ๏ฝก๏พโ : *.โฆ .* :โ . โโโโง
"SCHMIDT? PARKER?"
(Y/N) jumped back at the loud call of her name and lifted her head to lock eyes with the person who was yelling her name, which was no other than Nick Fury, sitting with an emotionless look on his face.
Peter, who was facing the wall behind him, turned back to face the others with an ashamed look. "Yes, sir."
"That thing is going to be here in a few hours," Fury told them. "Are we boring you?"
"They're not bored. They're just thinking about how you kidnapped them," Quentin decided to speak up and (Y/N) could only watch the exchange with interest.
"They had obstacles. I removed them," Fury defended, his hands clasped together out of frustration.
Hill moved back from the monitors with her hands on her hips. "They still won't evacuate the city."
Fury let out a scoff. "Idiots." He looked back at the teens from across the room and fixed his eye on them. "So, what's the plan, Schmidt, Parker?"
"(Y/N) and I will be in the cathedral tower, keeping watch for the fire monster," Peter spoke up. "When that shows up, I will radio you guys, and then Mr. Beck, (Y/N), and I will โ "
"My name is Mysterio," Quentin said with a proud look in his eyes.
(Y/N) flicked her eyes from him to Fury and crossed her arms on her chest. "And that's when Mysterio, Peter and I will close in."
"Kids, listen to me," Quentin interrupted. "The best hope you have, the only hope, is to stop it here now, no matter what the cost. Maneuver it away from civilians if you can, but most important, keep it away from metal."
"If it gets too big, it'll draw power from the Earth's core. After that, there's no way to stop it."
(Y/N) felt dizzy from his words and shifted her weight from one foot to the other as she took a deep breath to calm her nerves down. She barely had control of her powers, and she thought it was too much pressure to say that before the attack.
"Hey, our friends are here," Peter said. "And I can't help but think we're putting them in danger."
"You're worried about us hurting your friends?" Fury raised his voice and stood up from his seat, walking up to him with slow steps. "You, who called a drone strike on your own school tour bus?"
Peter lowered his head and (Y/N) was ready to step forward and say something, but Fury didn't give her the chance to.
"Stark gave you a multibillion-dollar A.R. tactical intelligence system, and the first thing you do with it is try and blow up your friends," Fury snapped. "It's clear to me that you were not ready for this."
"And we tried to tell you that but you insisted in bringing us here," (Y/N) said. "So, who's fault is that? The man who hijacked an entire school trip, or two teenagers that just wanted a break for just one summer?"
(Y/N) didn't get the chance to watch his reaction since she stormed out of the room angrily, the smallest hint of blue in her eyes as she walked away. Peter followed after her, instead of showing anger on his face just like her, he was thinking Fury's words through his head.
He and (Y/N) sat on the edge of the roof in comfortable silence, watching the lights from below. (Y/N) pretended not to notice, but she saw from the corner of her eye how Peter stole glances at her every now and then.
Quentin flew to their level and hovered in front of them. "Fury asked me to come up here and see how you were doing. He just. . .he felt bad about snapping at you."
"Really?" Peter frowned.
"You guys do have sarcasm on this Earth, right?"
(Y/N) let out a dry laugh and shook her head, playing with the ends of her sweater.
"How you feeling?" Quentin asked.
"Uh. . .I didn't think I was gonna have to save the world this summer," Peter cleared his throat. "I know that makes me sound like such a jerk. I just had this plan. . .and now it's all ruined."
(Y/N) looked up to the sky and then proceeded to speak up. "I know the risk and responsibility it takes to be a hero. I really do, but I. . .I'm so tired."
Quentin sat right beside her and the bowl in his head faded away in a matter of seconds, looking at (Y/N) with deeply interested eyes before staring ahead. Peter, who was sitting on her other side, took her hand in his to distract her for the meantime.
"You're not jerks for wanting a normal life, kids," Quentin said. "It's a hard path. You see things. You do things. You make choices. People look up to you. . .and even if you win a battle, sometimes they die."
Quentin moved his eyes to gaze at the teens. "I like you, (Y/N), Peter. You're good kids. There's a part of me that wants me to tell you, just. . .turn around, run away from all this. Then there's another part of me that knows what we're about to fight, what's at stake, and I'm glad you're here."
"Me too," Peter sighed and (Y/N) nodded in agreement at his words.
"But you're worried about your friends," Quentin changed the subject, leaning on his hands on the edge of the roof.
"Yeah," (Y/N) looked at him. "We always end up putting them in danger."
"Look, just get them inside and keep them in a safe place for just a few hours. They'll be all right."
"It's really nice to have somebody to talk to about superhero stuff, you know?" Peter confessed.
(Y/N) let out an offended gasp. "And what am I? Chopped liver?"
Peter's eyes widened at her words and immediately tried to come up with an apology, all while (Y/N) and Quentin shared an amused laugh at his panic.
"Anytime."
Peter cleared his throat again and grabbed his backpack that was placed on the side, "See you out there."
"All right," Quentin nodded.
(Y/N) offered a playful salute and jumped out of the edge with Peter following behind, the two of them landing effortlessly on the ground without a scratch. Blue mist protected the fall as she hit the ground and she made it disappear when she spotted an old couple climbing up the steps a few feet away.
Peter seemed to spot them too and spoke an apology in Italian, which led the couple to frown in confusion as (Y/N) chuckled at his antic.
"Sorry, that's Italian," Peter rummaged through his backpack for the pair of glasses and put them on with struggle. "Okay. EDITH? Oh, come on. I need to find a way to keep my friends inside the next few hours."

"GOOD NEWS," Mr. Harrington announced to the group as they all sat on the chairs in the lobby of the luxurious hotel, all wearing neon light glasses and party hats. "We're going to the opera."
"You're kidding me," Cecilia scoffed in disbelief.
"The opera?" Betty added on.
"Don't look at me," Mr. Dell defended himself.
"What happened to the carnival?" MJ asked the teachers with an uninterested look.
"This is upgrade living. Come on. The tour company just gave us this tickets," Mr. Harrington explained. "For free! Do you have any idea how much opera tickets cost?"
Ned looked back at (Y/N) and Peter behind him and silently asked if this had something to do with the upcoming threat, and all the duo did was slowly nod their heads in confirmation as Ned's eyes widened, having to continue the lie.
"No, because none of us have ever wanted to go to the opera, ever," Flash commented.
"Uh. . .I think this is gonna be culturally enriching for us," Ned defended the idea.
"Thank you, Ned," Mr. Harrington gave him a thankful smile. "Everyone, this is gonna be, maybe, the best four hours of our whole trip."
"Four hours?" Everyone gasped in protest.
"Guys, I think this is gonna be really fun, Seriously."
The streets of Prague were filled with dozens of people gathering for the carnival, walking in big crowds and all were dressed in beautiful clothing, some having flowers on their heads as a detail. Fireworks were booming in the distance, and everyone was heading for the same place, all besides the class of Midtown High.
(Y/N) and the class had to walk up the street as people walked down the opposite direction, and some were even giving them weird looks as they passed. Everyone besides Mr. Harrington wore an annoyed look on their faces as they missed the carnival.
"I bet now your all happy I had you pack a nice outfit," Mr. Harrington said as he did his tie.
"Yeah, because we'd much rather go to a four-hour opera instead of the biggest party of the world," Flash protested.
"Again, don't look at me," Mr. Dell cut in.
"Schmidt, you copy," Hill's voice cut through her right ear as she walked besides Peter and MJ on the street. "Comm check, one, two."
(Y/N) ignored the call and walked forward with Peter by her side as MJ took a step ahead, neither of them noticing the strange look Brad gave the pair as they huddled together to not loose the other on the crowded street.
The class entered the theater and it was mostly empty, elderly people gathering in pairs and the room was completely silent.
"Okay, here we are. Beat the rush," Mr. Harrington announced.
"Yeah, the rush out," Mr. Dell muttered.
"Lucky for us, we got the best seats in the house," Mr. Harrington led the group through the aisle to search for their seats and everyone followed.
(Y/N) looked around and she would lie if she said she wasn't surprised or even astonished by her surroundings. The theater was beautiful, and she didn't get much time to see it since someone tapped her on the shoulder.
"Hey. I'll save you a seat," Brad said to her before he walked away to join the group.
Peter approached (Y/N) with hesitance and debated internally on what to say to her, seeing how her dress fit her perfectly and her hair framed her face beautifully.
"You look really pretty tonight," Peter said slowly.
"Oh, so yesterday I looked gross?" (Y/N) raised an eyebrow with a teasing tone, smirking at him.
Peter's eyes widened. "No, that's not what I meant at all. You look beautiful every day โ "
"Easy, bug boy," (Y/N) caressed his arm to calm him down. "I'm just messing with you. Thank you."
"You're welcome," Peter grinned sheepishly.
"You look pretty handsome too."
"Thank you," Peter blushed at the compliment.
"Oh, my gosh! Opera glasses!" Betty interrupted their conversation with a loud gasp, grasping into her boyfriend's hand.
"So cute," Ned gushed and grabbed a pair.
(Y/N) looked at the stage of the theater and tried to smooth the wrinkles of her dress out of nerves, hearing the voice of Fury in her right ear, asking her to move into position.
"I don't get why I even dressed up," (Y/N) said. "We're gonna miss the entirety of the opera anyway."
"Yeah," Peter said with a hint of disappointment.
"Are you in position?" Fury asked once again.
"We'll be there in five, calm down," (Y/N) snapped in a low voice as she pressed her finger to answer on comms. She locked eyes with Peter and let out a sigh. "We better get going."
Peter moved to the side to allow her to walk before him. "After you."
Ned walked up to the two as Betty went ahead to save themselves a seat with the rest of the group, and Peter grabbed him by the arm to catch his attention.
"Hey, we got to go. Can you just say that I got sick and that (Y/N) offered to help me?" Peter asked.
"Okay. Be careful," Ned nodded. "And whatever you do, please steer the monster away from the opera house."
"Yeah, don't worry," (Y/N) reassured. "Okay?"
"Okay."
"Gotta go."
(Y/N) headed towards the exit and the annoyance inside her head grew even more when she heard the comms activate again. "Schmidt! Parker! You two better be on your way. It's been a minute."
Going unnoticed by the two of them, MJ had turned around just in time to see the two of them disappear behind the wall of the opera house and decided to follow after them, catching Cecilia's and Betty's attention.
โงโโโ ๏ฝฅ ๏ฝก๏พโ : *.โฆ .* :โ . โโโโง
THE FIREWORKS BOOMED in the sky and people laughed and cheered amongst themselves as they had fun in the carnival, complete oblivious to the upcoming threat coming their way. Peter and (Y/N) were on the top of the cathedral tower, keeping an eye from above.
"All right. I'm in position," Peter confirmed.
"So am I. As soon as either of us see anything, Beck, we'll let you know," (Y/N) added as she lowered herself down on the side of the cathedral.
"Roger that," Quentin said through comms.
(Y/N) had some difficulty adjusting to the new suit that Hill had gifted her in the last meeting, which was completely black but the gloves and the mask were in a shade of blue.
"How're the suits?" Fury asked.
"It's nice, though I was expecting it to have a logo on it," (Y/N) said. "Since I thought announcing the identity on clothing was part of the job."
"Focus on the task, Schmidt, not on the clothing," Fury replied, and she could hear the smirk on his face.
"Uh. . .yeah, my suit's great," Peter decided to speak up and tugged on the tight clothing. "It's awesome. It's a little tight around the old web-shooter."
"Parker!"
"Slow down, bug boy. You're gaining a lot of confidence today," (Y/N) teased and Peter was glad that he had a full mask on, since his face was completely red.
"Okay, I'll shut up."
The music playing in the carnival grew louder and the mechanic rides were pilled up with people eager to get on, couples and groups climbing on the ferris wheel with smiles.
"Energy spiking."
"We have seismic activity."
The floor underneath the fountain began to crack and hot, liquid lava began to grow into a gigantic figure, causing people to scream and run away from the fountain in fear. The monster roared in anger and got on its full height, smoke coming out of the entirety of his body.
"Okay, he's here! Beck, are you ready?" Peter informed.
"On your lead, Spider-Man and Blue Dame."
(Y/N) thrusted her hands down to gain altitude and saw how the monster crashed its fist against the carnival stands and the police cars around, fire covering the entire area as people ran away. She lowered to the ground right behind the monster as Quentin did the same in the front, both preparing energy spheres of green and blue.
"You're up, Pete," (Y/N) muttered.
Peter jumped into the scene and used one of his webs to pull a heavy object and aim it at the monster, causing an explosion of fire to appear right after he did so. Quentin and (Y/N) took this as the opportunity to strike with their powers, the latter restraining the fire monster back as the other attacked from the front.
Peter used a web to break the fire hydrant and cause a streak of water to shoot it directly at the monster, smoke filling the scene. Once the fog died out, the monster let out an angry roar, it's anger growing because of this. It aimed a punch at the spot where Peter was standing but he was able to jump back in time.
(Y/N) had to move from her place behind the monster since it was breaking everything in its path to get to Peter, but she formed another sphere of mist in her hands as the monster broke the carousel.
"No, Beck! He's got the carousel! He's getting bigger!" Peter yelled out.
"Night Monkey! Blue Witch! Help!" two familiar voices shouted from above, and (Y/N) turned back to see Ned and Betty stuck on the ferris wheel. "Save us! Night Monkey and Blue Witch, we're stuck!"
(Y/N) saw how Peter grew distracted at his two friends screaming for help that he didn't notice the fire monster growing bigger and taking slow steps towards him, burning everything down. Peter noticed he couldn't do anything to stop him and braced himself for an impact that never came, since (Y/N) and Quentin formed a dome around the three of them.
This seemed to confuse the monster, since he banged its fists on the dome with anger with failed attempts. (Y/N) concentrated on keeping the dome up as Quentin turned to Peter.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
"We move onto Plan B, right?" (Y/N) said without looking back, her voice strained from holding the dome.
"Yeah! We got to hit him with something he can't absorb!" Peter agreed.
"You two go left and right, I'll go front! Now!" Quentin finished the thought and removed his hands that formed the shield.
(Y/N) broke the dome too and thrusted her hands to the sides to pull herself up in the air, flying to the right as she lifted rocks with her powers and hurled them directly to the monster's chest as Peter did the same from the left.
"Okay, shoot him!" Peter yelled.
Quentin grunted and fired a green blast at his chest, making the monster stagger back and let out a roar. "That hurt him. Keep it coming."
(Y/N) took the air and lifted the heavy rocks in the air to aim them at the monster as Quentin kept on firing every time she and Peter struck the monster down, gaining the advantage.
"Spider-Man, Blue Dame, keep your distance," Quentin said. "Can't let him get near the Ferris wheel."
"Okay, we're on it!"
(Y/N) dodged the burning hand of the monster that tried to grab her in the air but the smoke and fire that came her direction was way more difficult to dodge. The monster crashed his fist to the ground and caused a large crack to form towards the Ferris wheel, making it fall by one side and tilt it to the side. The monster heard the cries coming from Ned and Betty and made its way towards them with slow steps before Quentin interfered.
(Y/N) ran in the direction of the Ferris wheel and used one hand to stop it from falling any further and the other to aim a blast at the monster along with Quentin, forming a combination of blue and green in the monster's body.
Peter shot his webs to stabilize the Ferris wheel and to get Ned and Betty out of there safely. He watched how (Y/N) dropped the hand that held the wheel up and now combined her two hands with a huge blast of energy.
"That's it! Nice! Nice! You got him!"
The monster gained more height and the roars coming from its throat grew louder and louder, and the agents that parked up in the scene all watched with horror, seeing how it was too late.
Quentin removed the helmet from his head. "Whatever happens. . .I'm glad we met."
"No, Beck, what are you thinking!"
"What are you doing?"
The helmet formed itself on his head again. "What I should have done last time."
Quentin yelled out as he gathered all the green energy in his hands and his entire body was glowing green too, and (Y/N) could only let out a yell of protest as she saw how he prepared himself for the worse.
"Beck, don't do it!" Peter yelled.
Quentin charged at the monster and broke into his chest, and this didn't seem to cause much effect until the monster began to reach out and his entire body turned green from the inside out. The green light grew bigger and bigger until the monster collapsed in the ground and exploded, leaving nothing but green energy in the air.
(Y/N) spotted Quentin's weak frame in the ground and she ran towards it with Peter right behind her, already securing Ned and Betty. The two approached his unconscious body and saw how the cape was letting out smoke and his face was burnt. It was like that day all over again.
"Mr. Beck?" Peter tapped his arm.
Quentin opened his eyes slowly and turned to the side so he was now laying on his back, the smoke coming out of his suit.
"Oh, thank God," (Y/N) gasped.
(Y/N) and Peter helped him up and Quentin let out a grunt as he got to his feet. Fury, Dimitri and Hill all got out of the cars and approached the three heroes with slow steps towards them.
"So, it's over?" Hill asked.
"That was the last of them," Quentin confirmed.
"But not the last threat we'll ever face," Fury protested. "We need to stay vigilant. There's a void in this world for someone like you. Hill and I are going to Europol headquarters in Berlin tomorrow. You should join us."
Quentin took his hand and gave it a firm handshake. "Thank you. I just might take you up on that."
Fury's attention drifted off to (Y/N) and Peter that were standing on the side in silence, watching the exchange with interest.
"You got gifts, kids, but you didn't wanna be here," Fury began.
"Mr. Fury, I โ "
"I'd love to have you two in Berlin too," Fury interrupted. "But you got to decide whether you're going to step up or not. Stark chose the both of you. He made you Avengers. I need that. The world needs that. Maybe Stark was wrong."
Fury locked eyes with (Y/N). "Was he? The choice is yours."
(Y/N) stared down at her hands as he walked away and joined Hill in the car, and Quentin got up from his seat in the rubble before he walked up to the two.
He patted each of them in the shoulder affectionately. "Let's get a drink."
"We're not 21."
