CHAPTER ONE:
PEGGY
THE WORLD WAS VERY DIFFERENT. That was the first thing that Celeste took note of as soon as she had set up in the lime green grass, her eyes narrowed as she placed a hand in front of her face to shield her eyes from the bright light that was radiating from the sun that was high in the cerulean sky. There was a slight wind, the air ruffling through her long blonde hair that reached right past her shoulders. She stood up, glancing down at the white dress that covered her body, along with the elegant heels that came with it, something that no one from this time would ever wear.
As she stood there, glancing around, she realized that she had never been told where exactly it was that she was going. She was continuously forced to shove the hair from her face, getting frustrated with the way it kept blocking her view as the wind continued to blow. She wasn't really sure what she was supposed to do. Where exactly it was that she was. She didn't know the year, the country, nor the ways to act. She knew only of her rebellious nature that followed her around every where she went.
However, she knew her mission. She knew how to be an angel, and she knew how to protect not only herself, but those around her as well. And she knew that she had to find the one she was supposed to be protecting, the one whose name was James Barnes. She carefully walked down through the grass, glancing around for any sight of life. Of course her father would be the one to land her in the middle of nowhere with no directions on where to go. It was quite frustrating to her and if he wasn't her father, she would be cursing him.
Celeste walked and walked until she made it to that of a city, one that was filled with life and people walking around the city. She ignored the glances that were sent her way, already used to them being sent to her up in Heaven. She could care less about them as the people of the earth furrowed their eyebrows and looked at her weirdly due to her elegant attire. She was dressed almost like a queen would. Elegantly and flawlessly. She walked that way too. She wanted to ask them what was wrong, but she kept her mouth shut, knowing that her words always managed to get her into trouble.
Celeste walked deeper into the town, a gentle smile falling on her face as she looked at all of the lights. It seemed that a carnival was going on, and she had almost walked towards it, wondering what it was like, but she stopped herself. She had a mission at hand and she needed to complete it. So, she straightened her stance, cocking her head slightly before continuing forward. She stopped just in front of a clothes store, furrowing her eyebrows as she looked at the dresses.
"Awful, are they not?" Celeste turned her head at the sound of a woman's voice. She looked at the brunette whose hair was curled, placed right on top of her shoulders as she looked at the dresses that were shown in the window's. She had an English accent as she spoke, clearly not from wherever it was that Celeste was currently residing in.
"Do all the women where such ghastly things?" Celeste asked, frowning slightly.
The woman shook her head. "Do I look like I'm wearing that?"
Celeste took a moment to look at her, before realizing she was wearing a woman's suit instead of a dress. "No, not at all. I quite like your outfit."
"I like yours as well."
"Who are you, exactly?" Celeste finally asked, having looked at the ugly dresses before turning back towards the woman.
"My apologies. My name is Margaret Carter, but my friends call me Peggy." She held out a hand for her to shake and Celeste offered her a small smile before shaking her hand.
"Celestial. But my friends call me Celeste."
"Well, Celeste, it's very nice to meet you." Peggy told the woman, Celeste offered her a smile in response, nodding her head.
"You as well, Peggy."
"You look lost, is there any way that I could be of help?"
"Yes, actually." She nodded. "I'm not really sure where exactly it is that I'm at."
"Brooklyn, New York." Peggy answered with a slight frown.
"And the year?"
"1939. Why?"
"Then I'm not too late." The girl mumbled. "Peggy, do you happen to know of someone that goes by the name James Barnes?"
"I'm afraid not." Peggy shook her head. "Why?"
"It's nothing." Celeste shook her head.
"Why don't you come and stay with me for awhile?" Peggy questioned. "At least until you. . . catch up on the world?"
"That sounds like a marvelous idea." Celeste smiled.
"I don't live in Brooklyn though. I live closer to New Jersey." Peggy told her, making Celeste frown slightly. "Don't worry though, we can come by every day. Maybe I could even help you find this mysterious man you've been looking for."
"That would be amazing."
"Well, let's get going shall we?"
She looked towards Peggy, a smile on her face as she nodded. "We shall."
