CHAPTER EIGHT:
REBELLIOUS
"HOW'RE THEY DOING?" CELESTE ASKED, handing Bucky a drink before sitting down on her couch and sitting there beside of him with a small frown. "I would've come, but I don't know them that well, and I didn't want to be an uninvited guest."
Bucky sighed. "I think they'll be okay. I tried inviting them over, but they both just wanted some time to themselves. They lost their dad before they were born, so their mom has been the only parent they've ever had."
"Maybe I'll give them a call tomorrow, check up on them." Celeste nodded her head.
"I think Evelyn would like that, even if she claims she wants to be left alone, she doesn't do good by herself." Bucky nodded his head. "They've both been through so much, I just wish there was something that I could do."
"Steve and Evelyn are strong people, Buck. All you can do is be there for them when they need you to be." She sat her drink down on the table before turning to look at him. "You're their best friend, Bucky. And they do need you. But right now what they need is a moment to mourn their mother."
"For someone who has done nothing but live with angels, you sure do know us human's well." Bucky jokingly smiled, making her chuckle, rolling her eyes.
"Us angels watch over you humans." Celeste told the man.
"That's kind of creepy." Bucky mumbled.
Celeste laughed. "Don't worry, my love, as long as I'm here, the angels don't have to watch over you because I already am." She smiled, placing a hand on his shoulder before leaning forward and grabbing her drink once more.
"Tell me more about these angels." The man was quite interested in the species. He wondered if they were all as graceful as Celeste was, or as gorgeous as her. He was going to be honest with himself, he was quite surprised when Celeste had told him about what she was. And he quite frankly didn't believe it at first, but after he had walked her home, going home himself, he managed to make a trip to the library and found there were so many books about angels. It almost shocked him.
"Well, if you must know, everyone hates me up there." Celeste started. This made the man furrow his eyebrows. How could someone hate her? She was the perfect personโ๏ธor angel, ratherโ๏ธin his eyes. Celeste smiled in amusement at the look on his face. "Oh, it doesn't bother me. In fact, I find it amusing to annoy them."
"Why exactly do they hate you?"
"Up there, I'm known as the rebellious angel." Celeste answered.
"You? Rebellious?" Bucky rose his eyebrows in surprise.
"I break rules all the time. I change things in the books that aren't supposed to change and it makes the other angels irritated cause it changes their plans. The guardian angels hate it the most." She tucked a blonde hair behind her ear. "You weren't supposed to know about who I was, what I am. But I've broken that rule twice now."
"Twice?"
"Peggy knows too." Celeste answered and he nodded his headed. "So far I've broken a lot more rules than I should have down here. Big guy hasn't said anything yet, so I guess I'm okay right now."
"Maybe he knew you were going to break the rules?" Bucky tried. "He expected it from your rebellious state that he's used to seeing you in."
"I'd like to believe that earth has changed me. I've been here for a little while, and. . . I don't know. I guess I just have people down here that actually care about me. Or at least, I think you and Peggy care about me." She sounded so insecure, it almost broke his heart. Sure she had been a little shy when the two first met, but she wasn't insecure. Not like she was right at this moment.
"I can't speak for Peggy, but I can almost guarantee you that she does care about you. And I definitely care about you. You've become a very important person to me in the past few weeks that you've been here." He shrugged his shoulders, a small smile on his face. "Evelyn barely knows you, but I can tell she cares about you as does Steve. Whom you haven't even met."
"I might as well have, you talk about him all the time I feel like I've known him for years." Celeste chuckled. She then pursed her lips for a moment as a thought of curiosity entered her mind. "You know, ever since I've come to town, I haven't seen you go dancing with any girls."
"I dance with you." He shrugged.
"Oh, please." She scoffed. "We went dancing twice. I know you used to do it practically every day before I ruined your rhythm."
"Ruined myโ๏ธif anything you made it better."
"Sweetheart, you don't have to spare my feelings."
"I'm not sparing any feelings. Feelings, not being spared." He assured her and she smiled at him, shaking her head. She stood up from the couch and started towards her bedroom. "Where are you going?"
She turned to look at him before flashing him a dazzling smile. "Getting changed. We're going dancing." She then entered her room, closing her bedroom door, the smile not once leaving her lips.
