𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐧𝐞: 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐞 𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭

𝐒𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐈𝐍 𝐀 𝐂𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐑𝐎𝐎𝐌, having been put into in-school suspension for two weeks for getting into a fight with some dickhead. she had finished all the work she was assigned, deciding that she was gonna draw in one of notebooks. she could hear the other kids out in the hall, most of them going towards their lunch period. scout sighed, wishing that she could be with her friends. she was dying of boredom. . . or that's at least how it felt. she had been in this same classroom for the last week, and she didn't know how much longer she could take. she looked over to the teacher's desk, glad to find that it was no one sitting there. the teacher who was supposed to be watching her was more worried about what was going on in the teacher's lounge.

scout looked back down to her drawing, starting to lightly shade a certain area with her mechanical pencil. the sound of the door opening made her ears perk up but she didn't take her eyes away from her drawing, thinking that the teacher had finally decided to come back. but when she had seen someone sit down at the desk next to her from the corner of her eye, she looked towards them, her eyebrows furrowing. her confused expression turned to a happy one once she had seen tara carpenter.

tara couldn't help but mirror the macher girl's smile, her dimples making an appearance. "hi, scouty."

"hey." scout greeted, gently putting her pencil down. "what are you doing here?"

tara simply shrugged. "missed you."

"we saw each other this morning." scout reminded, eyebrows raising slightly.

"so, i can't miss you?" tara questioned.

"no, you can. you definitely can." scout answered, feeling her cheeks heat up. she looked down at her book, trying to hide the blush.

"what you working on?" tara asked, her eyes going down to the book as well.

"i don't know actually. i was kinda just going with the flow." scout mumbled, pulling away so that tara could take the book and look at it. "how's everyone else doing?"

"they miss you, too." tara informed as she carefully flipped through scout's book, seeing all the other drawings she's done. she smiled when she came across a rough sketch of her face, remembering when she had posed for it. "mindy's been whining because she misses the way you would laugh at her jokes."

"awe. two more weeks in this hell hole and i'll be back." scout smiled, examining every detail of tara's face. her eyes scanned the freckles that were scattered across the carpenter girl's nose and cheeks.

"so, since i've missed you so much. . . do you wanna come over and watch a movie or something my mother's not home. . . again, so we can do whatever we want?" tara asked, looking up at scout with raised eyebrows.

"i like how you think i'll be able to do anything after getting into a fight and being thrown into in-school suspension." scout pointed out, feeling her heart skip a beat once she had seen the way tara was looking at her.

"you've snuck out before, you can do it again." tara reasoned.

scout quirked an eyebrow at that. "you just love seeing me in trouble, huh?"

"of course i don't. i just wanna spend time with you. you've been on house arrest for the last week." tara shrugged, sitting back in her seat. "i miss my best friend."

scout felt her chest sting at those words, forcing a smile onto her lips. "i miss you, too." she said, shifting in her seat slightly. "fine, i'll come over. but you better choose a good movie because i'm risking my ass."

"i'll choose the best movie that there is." tara promised.

"good." scout nodded.

before the two of them could say anything else, the sound of the door opening quickly gained their attention. tara was quick to shoot up from her seat and run towards the door that was at the back of the classroom. scout quickly repositioned herself at her desk, grabbing her drawing notebook from tara's previously spot. she looked towards the door tara went to, seeing that the latina was able to get out. she then turned back towards the front seeing the teacher, mr.harrington, placing his things onto his desk.

"i hope you didn't cause any more trouble while i was gone, miss macher." the man muttered as he sat down at his desk.

"i've been here the whole time." scout mumbled, rolling her eyes at the teacher.

"yeah, well, you wouldn't be here at all if you hadn't got into that fight, now would you?" mr.harrington challenged.

"that's true. but at least i'm not the teacher being forced to watch the kid that has in-school suspension." scout spat, looking back down at the drawing she was working on. "you can't be trusted with anything else, sir? did you get caught creeping on minors?

"you little -" mr.harrington started.

"oh, that hit a nerve." scout winced.

mr.harrington muttered something under his breath as he glared at scout, the macher girl going back to her drawing. she bit back a smile as she started to draw again, glad that tara had came and visited her.

𝐒𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐈𝐍 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐑𝐎𝐎𝐌, her eyes on the clock that was on her nightstand. tara had told her to be there by 8, and the macher girl was patiently waiting for the clock to hit 7:45 so she can leave. her room door was closed, but she had been listening closely to see if her aunt or cousin was in a bad mood. i mean, they were always in bad moods, but she was trying to see if they were gonna decide to take it out on her. she had locked her door, just in case.

"scout!" she heard the voice of vince schneider shout from the other side of her door.

she cursed under her breath as she looked towards her door, watching as the doorknob rattled. she then looked back towards the clock, seeing that it was 7:45. she was quick to shoot up from her spot on her bed, snatching her phone and headphones. she went over to her window, pulling it open before she climbed through. she ignored the yells that were coming from the other side of the door as she pushed her window closed. she carefully climbed down from the small area of roof that was outside her window, going as fast as she could without getting hurt. once she was on the ground, she ran over to her bike that was laying on the yard, picking it up before she swung her leg over.

she started to pedal in the direction of tara's house, taking one of her hands from her handle bars, quickly placing an earbud into her ear, not caring that the wire was a tangled mess. she opened up her phone and went to contacts, clicking tara's name. she placed her phone in the pocket of her leather jacket, patiently waiting for tara to pick up.

she heard a click, tara's voice immediately appearing. "hey. are you on your way?"

"yeah, i'm making my way to you." scout answered. she looked over her right shoulder to see if there were any cars coming before she made a right turn. "my cousin almost broke into my room to kill me."

"i seriously hope your cousin gets what he deserves." tara mumbled,  scout hearing every word. the macher girl silently agreed.

"yeah, same." scout breathed out. "i'm ten minutes away. you better have the popcorn ready."

"don't worry, scouty. everything's set up for you." tara told her as she walked into her kitchen. "are you planning on staying over? i can have some of your pajamas waiting for you."

"i wasn't planning on it, but i can since you asked so nicely." scout answered, a smirk pulling at her lips as she pumped her legs.

"you know what? never mind. i don't want you to stay over." tara retorted, earning a laugh from scout.

"you know you love me, carpenter." scout mumbled.

"are you sure about that?" tara shot back, scout practically seeing the look on her face. before scout could answer, the sound of tara's house phone ringing echoed through her ears, making her flinch slightly "god, that's like the third time the landline rang. okay, guess i gotta get that. i'll see you when you get here, okay?"

"yeah, okay." scout nodded, even though tara couldn't see her.

with that, the two hung up, scout taking her phone out so that she could go to spotify to play music. she ended up stopping at a stop sign, making sure that she wasn't in the middle of the street just in case any cars popped up. halley's comet by billie eilish started blasting in her ears, a small smile pulling at her lips. this is the song that she felt more connected to out of the whole album, the lyrics speaking to her in more ways than one. maybe it was because she was falling deeper and deeper for tara, but she didn't mind. she was willing to do so.

she stuffed her phone back into her pocket, grabbing a hold of her handlebars so she could get ready to pull off again. but before she could, a dark figure ran up to her and tackled her to the ground. a grunt left scout's mouth when she came in contact with the cement beneath her. before she could do anything, she felt something sharp pierce through the skin on her stomach, a scream leaving her lips. she quickly retaliated, punching the dark figure in their face. she went to go punch them again, but they had punched her back. scout let out a groan but tried her best to recover quickly. she turned around to face the dark figure, but they were no where to be seen. she looked around on the street, but it was empty.

she let out a small sigh of relief, but was reminded of the wound that was on her stomach. she winced, looking down slowly to see how bad the damage was. once she had looked down and saw all the blood that was coating her clothes, it was like an immense wave of pain crashed into her. she pressed her hand onto the wound, attempting to stop the blood.

"shit." she hissed out, looking up at the night sky.

she slowly went placed her hand into her pocket, going to grab her phone. but her heart dropped once she realized that it wasn't there. she looked around on the ground, hoping that it had fell out somewhere, but there was no sign of it. she cursed under her breath when she came to the conclusion that whoever attacked her must've taken her phone. she slowly but surely got up from the ground, making sure to apply as much pressure as she could. she sucked in a breath, looking around once again to see if she should go knock on someone's door and ask for help. but almost everyone in this stupid town hated her because of who her uncle was. so instead, she continued her journey to tara's house, praying that she wouldn't bleed out before she got there.

what she didn't know was that the dark figure was standing in the shadows, holding up scout's phone to record it so that they could send it to tara. the mysterious figure continued to do that before they disappeared, going to their first target. scout tried not to focus on the pain, but that was hard to considering the fact that it was spreading throughout her entire body. she could feel the blood gushing out of the stab wound. the thought of her dying in the middle of the road appeared in her mind, not exactly helping with her anxiety. she shook her head to get rid of the negative thoughts, going back to the task at hand. she had to make it to tara's house.

speaking of tara. . .

she had been texting scout a few times since she had gotten on the phone with her mother's new boyfriend, but the macher girl hadn't answered. but now, she was texting her nonstop, the phone call turning creepy once the guy had asked her what her favorite movie was. she closed the shades on the doors that led to the patio, wanting to make sure that no one was able to see inside.

carpenter👩🏻‍🔧💗
it was some pyscho. i'm
locking the doors.

girl scout🍪💕
wtf??? you okay?

tara went to go respond, but was interrupted by the sound of the landline ringing once again. she whirled around in her spot as she let out a gasp, her eyes falling onto the landline. her phone lit up in her hand, making her look back down at the screen, seeing that scout had sent her another message.

girl scout🍪💕
you should answer it.

tara's eyebrows furrowed as she reread the message, confused on how scout could possibly know that the phone was ringing. she started to slowly type up a message before she sent it, anxiously waiting for a response.

carpenter👩🏻‍🔧💗
how did you know my landline
was ringing?
scout?

girl scout🍪💕
this isn't scout.
ANSWER THE PHONE BITCH.

tara felt her heart drop down to her stomach at those words, her mind making up horrible scenarios. she exit out of the message app to go dial 911, but she stopped when another message from scout's number popped up.

girl scout🍪💕
ANSWER THE PHONE OR
SCOUT DIES.

without any hesitation, tara ran over to where she had left the landline. she answered it, putting it up to her ear. "this isn't fucking funny, scout."

"i told you, this isn't scout." the sinister voice reminded, sending a chill down tara's spine.

her phone beeping is what gained her attention, seeing that a video was being sent to her from scout's number. she opened it, pressing play to see scout slowly walking down a dark street, her hand pressed firmly against her stomach. tara took a closer look, noticing the blood that was trailing down scout's front.

"scout's not looking too good tonight. it'd be such a shame if something would happen to her." the voice over the phone said.

"what do you want?" tara questioned, her voice dripping with worry and fear.

"i told you, i want to play a game." the voice answered. "stab movie trivia, three rounds. you call the cops, she dies. you get a question wrong, she dies. she's out here all by herself. i can be on her in 15 seconds. you want a warmup question?"

"i told you i don't know these movies! ask me about something i do know. ask me about it follows. ask me about hereditary. ask me about the witch." tara pleaded.

"in the first stab movie, what woodsboro native was introduced as the franchise's main character?" the voice asked, ignoring everything tara had just said.

"it's sidney prescott!" tara responded immediately. "it's sidney prescott, and she lived on elm."

"correct. you see, you're do great at this." ghostface said in fake enthusiasm. "okay, question one -"

"no, i got that one right, it should count." tara interrupted. she didn't know absolutely nothing about this movie franchise, so she was trying to take every opportunity she got. she should've paid attention when scout made her watch these stupid movies.

"anyone could have gotten that one right. sidney's in everyone movie but the last one." ghostface told her. "question one: who wrote the original book that the stab movies are based on?"

tara let out a shaky breath as she tried to think of the answer, her mind going blank. she tried to think back to all those times that scout and mindy had rambled on about stab and everything involved. "um. . . um. . . the - the chick from tv!"

"'the chick from tv' is not gonna cut it, tara."

"oh, gale weathers! it is gale weathers, you motherfucker!" tara exclaimed.

"correct. scout might live to see the sunrise." ghostface said. "question two: who played the dumb bitch in the beginning of stab 1 who answers the phone and gets carded up by the killer?"

"fuck you." tara spat.

"is that the answer you're going with?" ghostface asked, which earned a sob from tara. the carpenter girl then realized that she could use her phone, looking up the cast of the stab movies. "a non-answer counts as a wrong answer, tara. time's running out. ticktock, ticktock, ticktock, ticktock -"

"heather graham!" tara exclaimed, looking down at her phone.

"correct! you pulled that one out." ghostface said. "now for the final question: who was the killer in stab 1?"

tara was sobbing but had stopped once she heard the question. "oh, i know this one, you fuck. it's billy loomis! it's billy loomis, and he was sidney's boyfriend, and he was played by luke wilson, and i got you, asshole! i got it! i got it right!" she celebrated.

"oh, i'm sorry, tara, but that's just not correct."

"what?" tara asked, her excitement flying right out the window. "no, no, it is. it is. that is right."

"the correct answer is billy loomis and stu macher. there are two killers in the original stab." ghostface corrected, making tara's heart dropped. how could she forget about scout's uncle? "i'm afraid someone's got to die now."

"no, no, no. scout, i'm coming." tara mumbled, hanging up the landline. she put the phone down before she grabbed a knife and ran towards her front door.

she swung open her door, only to see ghostface standing right outside. tara let out a scream, it getting caught in her throat when ghostface swung their knife, leaving a slash on her side. without thinking, tara swung at ghostface, punching them right in their mask. she then went to go close the door, ghostface pushing up against it to try and stop her. the two fought against one another, but tara was able to get the upper hand, closing the door and locking it. she slowly backed away from the door as she sobbed, looking down at the slash on her side before she placed a hand over it. she then pulled out her phone, using the security app to lock all doors. she pressed the button that would notify the police that something was going on.

she jumped when the sound of banging came from the door, making her look at it. she then looked down at the knife that she had dropped, picking it up. "the police are on their way, asshole!"

the banging went on for a few more seconds before it went silent. tara continued to slowly back away, her attention going down to her phone when she heard it the locks were disarmed. she quickly rearmed them, panicked whimpers leaving her lips. that went on for a few seconds, the locks disarming every time she rearmed them. but when she rearmed them one final time, her phone didn't notify her that they were disarmed, which brought her some sort of relief. tara continued to back away slowly, her eyes focused on the front door as she backed herself into a corner.

the sound of the landline ringing is what made her jump again, fear running through her veins. she turned to where she had left the landline sobs leaving her lips. she slipped her own phone into her back pocket as she approached the counter that the landline was on. she picked it up cautiously, answering it before she put it up to her ear.

"hello?" tara said into the phone, her voice shaky.

"bonus question, tara." ghostface started.

"please stop." tara begged.

"do you think i made it inside your house before you could rearm?" ghostface questioned.

before tara could even say anything, ghostface jumped out from the shadows and wrapped an arm around tara's shoulders, pulling her closer. they raised their knife up before they brought it down and plunged it into the carpenter girl's stomach, a pained scream leaving her lips. ghostface pushed her, tara grabbing ahold of the counter in front of her. she then swung her arm, hitting ghostface in their mask. the killer didn't like that, quickly grabbing tara by her hair before they threw her down to the floor. tara tried to crawl away, but ghostface grabbed her by her ankles. the latina quickly turned around and kicked ghostface back in an attempt to send them to the floor. ghostface quickly regained their balance, raising their foot before they brought back down onto tara's leg, a loud crack echoing throughout the kitchen.

tara let out an agonizing scream, ghostface using this opportunity to turn the girl over onto her back. they straddled tara's waist, raising their knife up once again before they brought it back down. tara quickly reacted, raising her left hand. the blade of the knife went right through the palm of her hand, another scream leaving her lips. tara continued to fight ghostface, ignoring the amount of pain she was in. she kicked the killer with her other leg, sending them flying back. tara turned onto stomach, starting to crawl towards the door.

"help!" she exclaimed.

ghostface recovered, standing up before they trailed after tara. they quickly grabbed her by her ankles and dragged her towards them, bringing their knife up before they plunged it into her back. they repeated the action a few more times before they flipped tara onto her back, the sound of sirens getting closer and closer. they raised their knife once again, getting ready to slash tara right in the throat. but they were interrupted by a vase being smashed over their head. they fell onto the floor beside tara, noticing the thud that echoed through the air. they turned to see scout sprawled out on the floor, skin pale and covered in blood.

"you'll have to kill me first, asshole." scout breathed out, trying her best not to pass out from the amount of blood she lost.

ghostface was willing to take on the challenge, standing up so that they could go over to where the macher girl was laying. but once they heard the sound of police cars pull up in front of the house, they ran through the backdoors and into the night. scout let out a breath of relief, looking up at the ceiling. she could feel herself slowly slipping away, but all she could think about in that moment was tara.

please let her be okay.
