I walked out of the court building as I won another case. This one was easy though.

"Hey wait up!"

I stopped walking half way the stairs and turned to look into the eyes of Russell. I'm not even sure what his first name is.

"Can I help you mister Russell?"

"Uhm... yea. I was wondering how did you get all that information?"

"I was hired by the government which means I get access to whatever I need to win a case."

"Can I... can I have your card? For if I ever need a lawyer. I'm a fan of how you work."

I looked into his eyes that were full of hope as I handed him my business card.

"My office number and e-mail address are on the back. Give me a call when you need my help."

"Thanks..."

"You're welcome."

"What's your name?"

"Miss Huntington..."

"I know... I meant your first name."

"I beg your pardon?!"

"I was wondering what your first name is."

"I heard you correctly the first time but I do not see the use in telling you my first name if you are interested in my professional help."

"So you're not telling me..."

"Indeed I am not telling you."

"I did not know that people could even talk like class now a days."

"I take that as a compliment... thank you. Now if you will excuse me... I have other clients who require my attention."

"Yeah... of course."

I gave him a nod before I walked down the stairs and climbed into my car as I instructed my private driver to go to the office. It was only a 10 minute drive and while driving I just stared out the window to reset my mind and get my full focus on the next case. Work is going and going. This industry never has a stop. After a while we arrived and I stepped out of the car. I went into the huge glass building and rode the elevator up to the ninth floor. I walked to my office while my phone rang.

"Hey mom..."

"Darling! You finally picked up I've been trying to reach you for so long!"

"I know mom. I was in court... doing my job."

"Right... and while you are working you are missing the opportunity to find yourself a husband and finally be useful."

"Mom I already told you I am not interested in one of your set ups and I am certainly not interested in becoming a house wife."

"Oh darling you don't know what's good for you... it's time you start listening to me."

"No thank you mom. I make my own decisions about my own life."

"How are you my daughter...."

"You're asking me like I'm not questioning the exact same thing."

I heard my mother sigh with frustration before she continued talking.

"I need you to be at your father's party tomorrow evening. It's important."

"Yes mom. You have already called me 5 times about the party. I will be there don't worry."

"Don't be late because of that... job."

The word job rolled of her lips with disgust and I rolled my eyes.

"Bye mom. It was nice talking to you."

"I wish I could say the same."

She hung up the phone and I was happy about that. My mom and I don't see eye to eye about... everything. However my dad and I are so close. He loves me to death and supports me in every decision I'm making!

I walked into my office and sat down behind my desk. I opened my laptop and started working when my office phone started ringing.

"Miss Huntington speaking how may I help you?"

"Darling! What are you wearing to the party? I need to know if you will look presentable."

"I will wear a dress like you always want me to..."

"Yes but what dress? I need it to be classy enough. You cannot go ahead and ruin our reputation by wearing one of those scumbag outfits people your age wear."

"When have you ever seen me wear something too short?"

"Your bikinis..."

"That's because they're bikinis mom."

"Well send me a text later of your outfit. I need to see it today!"

"Yeah yeah..."

I hung up the phone and rolled my eyes once again. What is wrong with this woman. Can't she just leave me alone and let me do my own thing. A knock on my door got me out of my trans.

"Yes Martha?"

"I'm sorry to disturb you Adelaide-Isadora... there's been someone asking for you downstairs."

"I swear if it is my mom..."

"It is."

"Please ask her to leave. Say I'm in an important meeting or something. Just make her leave."

"I will."

"Thank you you're an angel."

Martha gave me a nod with one of her sweet smiles. Martha was only 17 but here for her internship. She's helping around with anything she can so she can see how the business world works. Martha always called back if she succeeded but for my liking it took a little too long. I took the elevator down and immediately heard my mother's voice shouting through the lobby of the office building. I walked towards the sounds and saw Martha crying.

"Martha... take an extra break you deserve one. Order some food and a drink in my card if you want. Mom... you need to leave right now."

"I am not gonna leave-"

"It was not a question! You need to start respecting boundaries. If someone asks you to leave, you leave!"

"Darling stop making such a scene."

"I am not the one making a scene mom. You were the one shouting at an innocent girl who kindly asked you to leave because I asked her to."

"How dare you!"

"How dare you mom. You're going to far with all this nonsense. I'm getting to the point to get a restraining order against my own mother for my work building."

My mother's mouth was hanging open wide as she started at me with utter shock.

"You know I mean any harm but at some point it stops mom. You crossed that border a long time ago but I made excuses for you. I'm done doing that. I am asking you to leave and don't show your face in this building unless you're asked to be here. Have I made myself clear."

"You... are no daughter of mine."

"Because dad is the one who made me who I am not you. That's why I don't resemble you!"

She groaned with frustration before she almost ran out of the building without another word. I exhaled a deep sigh and rubbed my face. Why on earth couldn't I have a normal mom...
