FORTYFIVE|LAY ME DOWN
I knew what I had to do.
Someone had to be laid to rest.
I tucked the dagger securely into the hollow of a large oak and ran all the way home.

"Is everybody here?" Alpha Thanos boomed into the night air, he was a mountain of a man, a creature of tightly bound muscle beneath sun kissed olive skin. His piercing blue eyes cast their way over the crowd of leaders.
"Then let the run begin!"
The air was crisp, yet not quite to the point of being cold. If I were alone I would have feared the woods, however the bodies surrounding me filled me with the courage I needed to go on.
We ran, bodies shifting from skin to fur, teeth to claw, from man to beast.
One heart.
One soul.
That's what we were.
Let no pack nor quarrel divide us.
Wolves from countries over becoming one. One strong pack of unity between nations.
Black wolves.
Brown wolves.
Grey wolves.
White wolves.
Scared wolves.
Pure wolves.
Old wolves, young.
All one.
We knew where we were headed, though most of us had never been there.
In corde, lupi.
The wolves heart.
A clearing in the woods a few hours east of here, there was a water fall, so clear and so bright if you listened closely on the night of a full moon you could hear the goddess whispering... Or so the legend says.
Hundreds of paws thundered through the undergrowth. A dark brown wolf brushed along side me, nipping at my heels. Thanos. His threw his thick, dark head back with an almighty howl. I joined him, and so did many others, joining our call to the goddess. I pushed my legs to run faster, faster than I had even thought possible until I caught up with the stark white wolf that I knew to be Marus.
I playfully bit his ear as we ran, an affectionate notion, if noticed by others could start a whisper.
Let them talk, I don't care anymore.
Hades was nowhere to be seen, though I knew he was lurking somewhere nearby, always watching.

We ran for what felt like hours, the soft earth beneath our paws changed to the crunch of dead leaves.
The pack slowed as we neared the falls, fur bodies morphing to bare skin. I shifted, quickly grabbing a pair of jeans and a crimson blouse from the pre-made pile. Six or seven wolves had came out earlier to lay out new clothes and snacks for the wolves after they shifted, I however didn't feel like eating. My stomach wouldn't settle, there was a weight in the pit of my stomach that just wouldn't shift no matter how hard I tried. I felt sick at the thought of what I was about to do.
Many wolves didn't bother grabbing clothes, instead jumping straight off of the top of the waterfall and into the river below.
Howls and yips of glee echoed off the woods, sending birds flying into the night sky.
I knew what I had to do, I wondered away from the falls until I saw the large oak that held that dagger beneath its cage of moss and bark just behind the cover of the fall. I knew that he was following me, watching me.
Though part of me wished he would just stay away, that way he wouldn't get hurt. I wouldn't have to hurt him. But I had to, because Marus said it was the only way we could be together, he said he had already given Rosalie a strong dose of Amoralyn in her tea, a drug used to slowly poised Lycanthropes.
"You should stop following me." I called into the darkness.
"Then maybe you should stop running." He stepped out from behind a tree, the light of the moon casting a silver sheen over his bronzed features.
I caught his eye, and once again I was drowning. I couldn't do it.
"I can help you, you just have to let me." He stepped closer, holding out a hand to me, but I turned away, pulling my hair into my hands. He just didn't understand.
"You don't get it do you! You can't help me! No one can!" I laughed, though beneath I was screaming. "I fucked up Hades, I fucked up real bad!"
"You couldn't-"
Something inside of me snapped, I hadn't realised how close to breaking point I was until it was already too late.
"I fucking killed people! I thought killed the woman with the red hair... I killed little girl, it's all my fault! I killed them both!" I screamed, my words not entirely making sense but I didn't care. Despair was tearing me apart from the inside. What had I done, it was all his fault! If he had never brought me here in the first place none of this would've happened, it was all his fault...
"You did what?" He seemed so shocked. He must have known, he must have. I didn't even know where I'd hidden the bodies for Christ sake.
"You should have left me alone." I clenched me eyes closed to stop the rain from falling and shook my head. "You should have left me!"
My back collided with a tree as the air left my lungs. "You killed a fucking child!" He roared "How could you!"
His hot breath fanned against my face, he smelled like pine and sandal wood. His eyes swirled with red hot scarlet anger. I inwardly shivered. I couldn't even look at him anymore without seeing that wooden pole, the silver collar. I couldn't even look at him without feeling the gnawing pain in my stomach, the aching in my paws. I couldn't help but remember how cold the nights were, how damp the rain and how tired and defeated I felt. He almost broke me. Almost.
He pushed away, he couldn't bare to face me, raking a hand through his thick raven hair.
"I'm so sorry Amelia..." He mumbled. "My anger got the best of me."
I reached into my boot.
"Not as sorry as I am."
I plunged the dagger into his back, just how Marus had shown me.
What had I done.
