Chapter 12 - Explanations
His eyes were bright in the moonlight as he gazed over at me. It made him looks so beautiful. But I was still wary of him. I needed to process all of this first.
"What about that other wolf? The one who attacked me? Was it a-" I began to ask but he cut me off.
"It was a Wolfblood too. A Segolia one, I'm guessing," he answered, shrugging.
The necklace he always wore moved against his neck as he shrugged, the light from the moon glinting off the metal. I tore my gaze away from it and met his eyes that were slowly growing more and more amber-colored by the second.
"Segolia? What's that?" I pressed him, taking a step closer.
Suddenly, he shook his head and walked over to me.
"I'll explain everything later. But right now, you need to leave," he said firmly, coming to stand behind me.
His hands grasped my arms then, pushing me back towards the woods. Back to town. I dug my feet in as he pushed me harder, dredging up bits of dirt and blades of green grass.
"Matei! Stop it! I'm not going anywhere! Why do I have to leave?!" I grumbled, annoyed at his erratic behavior.
"It's not safe for you out here...with me," he replied, his voice tight as he continued to push me.
After several more minutes of squabbling, we finally reached the copse of trees and he released me. When I turned back around to face him, my eyes widened. His amber orbs had grown brighter and the dark veins on his skin pulsed even darker than before. Spinning his heard around briefly to glance over his shoulder at the moon that was steadily rising higher and higher in the sky, he turned back to face me.
"You're...going to turn into a wolf again, aren't you?" I asked him, my voice sounding unnaturally low and soft.
Suddenly, a howl split the air and my eyes widened in fear. I could see from Matei's face, he had heard it too.
"It's my sister," he muttered to himself.
He grimaced then, squeezing his eyes shut as the moon rose even higher.
"Matei!" I said, instinctively walked over to him.
A grunt emitted from his lips and his eyes flew open. It was almost time.
"You need to go!" he shouted at me, waving me off.
"I'm not going anywhere-" I started, reaching out to him.
He shoved me away forcefully, "GO!"
Frowning, I turned around and ran off into the woods. The trees closed in around me as my sneakers crunched loudly on the dead leaves. All of a sudden, I heard another howl join the previous one. Matei had turned, too. I spun around and from the cover of the trees, I saw a lone wolf standing there were Matei had been. Out of the tunnel came another, smaller wolf whom I assumed to be his sister, Emelia.
I let out a shaky breath as the sudden realization of it all came down on me. I went on a date with a Wolfblood?!
