0340 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀
𝗦𝗔𝗡 𝗗𝗜𝗘𝗚𝗢, 𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗔

I laid in bed snuggled against Colton's pillows and side of the bed which still smelled exactly like him after a month.

I missed him sometimes so much it brought sickness to me but we talked every day like he promised me we would before he left so some of my pain was eased.

When we were dating I never checked into the reality of us being in dangerous situations because we were together and now it was like I had fully checked into the fact that he was in danger and I couldn't be there with him.

My phone then began to ring causing me to slowly grab and answer it with a million possibilities flooding my mind.

"Hello," I said into the phone

"Hey, beautiful!" Colton replied causing me to smile lowly

"It's three in the morning over here you really insist on having me all smiley this early in the morning?" I asked causing him to laugh lowly

"It's my specialty." He replied causing me to smile harder

"I miss you." He then said as I played with his wedding band that I had put on a small chain since it was too big for my thumb and I'd kill myself if I lost his wedding band

"I miss you too, so much, I can't wait to see you," I replied

"You know I can't wait to see you." He rebutted as I laid down

"Your voice is getting deeper," I said softly

"It's from yelling at these kids that keep doing dumb shit in the field that's going to get them killed." He said

"Mmhm, how's it been over there?" I asked feeling my eyes get heavy

"Better. Locals know we are here now, so they're shaken up. But other than that, me and the guys are scheduled to make our way in to execute tomorrow." He answered causing me to nod

"I'm going to pray for you group of crazy people," I said with a low laugh

"I know you are if anyone doesn't." He replied while laughing

"I know that's right" I retorted laughing lowly with him

"You're sleepy aren't you, baby?" He asked after our laughter calmed

"Nope," I replied stubbornly

"I can hear it in your voice, beautiful." He said causing me to sigh as he asked shortly after, "What time is it over there?"

"It's almost 4 in the morning" I answered

"I'm sorry, I didn't think about it..." He began to ramble before I cut him off saying, "Don't be sorry. You call I'll always pick up no matter what."

"Yeah, but I know how much my wife loves her sleep" He teased

"Yeah, but that's when you're with me," I replied while yawning

"Go to sleep. I'll stay on the phone until you do, I'm not busy right now." He said

"I'm not going to debate with that but don't go silent on me," I said letting my eyes shut

"I won't. You know, I know how you like for me to talk to you until you go to sleep." He replied

"I love you." He then said

"I love you."

1450 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀
𝗥𝗔𝗠𝗔𝗗𝗜, 𝗜𝗥𝗔𝗤

"How's the wife?" Boone asked with a smile

Once my wife had fallen asleep, my mind seemed to immediately check back into the reality of this war the moment I ended the call.

"She's fine, still sad but she's getting through it," I replied as I laid on this bed playing with my dog tags

"Well, get some rest we're out for patrol tonight." He said causing me to nod

"Understood" I replied as he left our shared tent

I did nothing but stare at the ceiling thinking about the last time me and Dinah were in Iraq as I closed my eyes.

𝙁𝙊𝙐𝙍 𝙔𝙀𝘼𝙍𝙎 𝘼𝙂𝙊

I sat facing Dinah in bed with my arm wrapped around her waist as we gazed softly toward each other.

"Did you mean it when you told me you loved me for the first time?" She then asked randomly as I gently began playing with her hair

"Of course I did," I replied honestly as tears began to slowly fall from her eyes

"Dinah, what's wrong?" I said wiping her eyes before she sat up and said, "I'm sorry I know that probably blindsided you."

"Yeah it did, not gonna lie...but talk to me," I said as I gently grabbed her hand

"It's just I've dated a lot of guys and it just seemed like a lot of them just dated me and said they loved me just to try and sleep with me." She replied causing me to sigh

"Listen, I know there are a lot of men in the world that just tell women they love them to get what they want but my Mom didn't raise me to be like that and I would never tell anyone I loved them knowing it wasn't true. To be honest, when I first realized how fast and easy it was for me to fall in love with you it scared me senseless since I've never felt this way about any woman but now I've come to terms with it...and it doesn't scare me anymore" I ranted truthfully

"And you know if you want to hear you're not alone, I can tell you that all day. But please just talk to me don't let your mind corrode your thoughts about us and where we stand." I said while looking her in the eyes causing her to smile with her lips pursed together slightly

"Okay." She replied as she slipped into my arms causing me to smile as I held her close

I couldn't help but understand where Dinah was coming from my ex-fiancée cheated on me on Thanksgiving day so I know exactly how it feels for people to lie and say they love you when they just love the thought of you.

"You still love me right?" I then asked sillily

"Yes, Lieutenant, I actually happen to love you more than chocolate chip cookies." She replied causing me to laugh as she pulled away to face me

"I'll take it gorgeous," I replied with a smile forged from laughter before bopping her nose gently and kissing her lips after

𝙉𝙊𝙒

"Captain, it's time for patrol," One of the Marines said as he knocked on my door causing my eyes to open

"Alright!" I replied as I slipped from this small bed beginning to smile while shaking my head thinking of the one and only time Dinah ever questioned my love for her

No one's ego could ever take credit for what God made when he made my wife, reason number one being the fact she loves me more than cookies and that's a lot.
