The concept of what is truly good or evil is something that has been warped over time, some say it's a person's actions that conclude this, while others claim it is an illusion that bends to fit the image of the beholder.
In a world of supernaturals, the notion of these two antonyms was far more complicated than one might think, it could be argued that simply being a vampire instantly disqualified someone from being a truly good being, their life source was the blood that ran through the veins of another, even if a fraction weren't taking lives to obtain this it was still considered evil in the tales and fables. The very nature of their living and habits was perceived as sinful, which reinforced the idea that point of view is the only thing that can define good and evil.
Doing nothing to stop wickedness is how evil flourishes, it relies on the feigned obliviousness of beings that were too frightened or disinterested to intervene. However, in some cases, something immoral would have to be done to cease the corruption. Killing one to save the lives of potentially thousands.
Summoning Satan to rid the world of the very soul he corrupted.
"He's enjoying his nap a bit too much." Mia quipped, peering over at the Mikaelson patriarch who was laid on the ground, his skin a dull grey with thick veins highly visible.
The Original father descended among them a few days prior, claiming he was the only one that could kill Klaus. The group jumped at the chance and decided to work alongside him. Mia, however, felt uneasy with the situation, there was a bitter air about him that put her off.
"The longer he stays that way the better." Rebekah remarked as she painted her nails. The two were in her room getting ready for the homecoming dance, but they each had more pressing matters on their minds.
"Are you okay?" Mia questioned, moving back the strand of blonde hair that'd fallen in front of her friend's face. "With the whole plan? I feel like no one's asked you that yet."
"That's because they haven't." Rebekah shrugged, causing the Petrova to feel a twinge of guilt, which she picked up on immediately and placed her hand over hers. "I'm fine." She responded dryly before glancing up and seeing Mia's brows raised with disbelief. "Of course... I feel conflicted but Nik has already snatched far too much from me. I'm simply taking back what was rightfully mine, a life of my own. I'm willing to do what it takes, family or not."
"As long as you're sure." The brunette gave her a pointed look before leaning off the edge of the bed to grab her phone. "I don't think these guys can handle another Elijah situation." She paused for a moment, it felt strange to say the Mikaelson's name after so long.
Rebekah noticed the sudden silence and gently pulled Mia back up so she could see her face. "You miss him terribly, don't you?" Elijah's absence in Chicago circa the 1920s was soothing to Klaus, being that one of his biggest worries was that history would repeat itself when it came to his lover.
Although Rebekah longed to see her brother even she agreed that it was possible Elijah would find himself falling for Mia. She was now left wondering if that was the reason the older Original was currently trapped in a coffin. "Did you fancy him?" She asked with a teasing smile to avoid suspicion.
"I fancy a lot of people." Mia sighed dramatically and decided to play into the role. With the back of her hand pressed to her forehead, she flopped back onto the mattress. "I fear I've become a harlot. Opened myself more times than I've opened doors." She lay on her side and looked at the laughing girl beside her, "You should run before you're influenced by my loose morals and lack of self-respect."
"I'm not going anywhere." Rebekah giggled then lay next to her, it hurt her to think about how much time they'd lost together and now here they were reunited but Mia couldn't even remember. As much as she wanted to confess everything, only Klaus would be able to return the memories so she had no choice but to leave it up to him. This didn't mean she wouldn't relentlessly pester him about the issue as soon as he returned to town, right as she led him to his death.
Mia turned her head to face Rebekah, who was already staring at her, it wasn't unnatural for her to make friends quickly but something about the Original was special and after spending long nights in deep thought, she had her theories on what it was. But to confirm it she had to do something she desperately didn't want to do, talk to her humanity-less friend. "You think an awful lot." Rebekah spoke suddenly after watching Mia completely zone out for a minute. "What's going on in that pretty little head of yours?"
"I'm just worried..." She whispered, not realising how quiet she'd gotten. "If this plan doesn't work then we have no way of getting rid of Klaus. It means we've just lured him back to town for nothing, he wins. After everything he's done to my friends....to you."
Rebekah's eyes softened, once again Mia's last priority was herself, she wanted to get rid of Klaus to ease the burden for Mystic Falls. The Original pondered if perhaps Mia would be better off without the memories, if Klaus gave them back to her and was then killed it would most likely send the Petrova down a spiral. Fill her with shame and guilt that she'd spent months detesting the soul that was once the love of her life, someone she'd had her firsts with, the man that taught her how it felt to be truly and unconditionally cherished.
It suddenly felt wrong to let Mia hate him completely. Although she was determined to get her freedom, Rebekah wanted his last moments to be with the woman he loved, "He wasn't always like that." She cuddled in close and rested her head under Mia's, "When we were younger he was the sweetest boy I knew. Don't tell Elijah but Nik was my favourite." Mia laughed softly at the adorable comment, "I would've done anything for him."
"And you're still willing to go through with this, after all the years you've spent with him?" Of course the Petrova was eager to be rid of Klaus but the thought of Rebekah regretting it and hating everyone for the plan was something she wanted to avoid.
"Like I said, he's done more than enough to deserve this, not just to me. We may have endured many years together however we also spent time apart, I didn't get a choice in that but I have one now." She'd lost count of the amount of times Klaus had daggered her and in her eyes every single occasion could've been avoided if Mia had lived with them when they were humans, Rebekah knew that all her brother needed during that time was for someone to believe in him.
If that was so, Klaus would've been a completely different person. "When he returns I'll make sure he tells me where the rest of my siblings are being kept and once he's gone we can all be reunited. We'll all be free....And don't worry, I'll try and convince him to lift the compulsion from Stefan too." She then reached over for something and gave it to Mia, it was a book, Stefan's journal. "Here, read some of this to cheer you up."
"I couldn't do that." Mia shook her head and placed it on the bedside table, "It's his personal thoughts....I tried to write a diary but my hand got tired. I kinda want to start again, maybe hire a stenographer."
Suddenly the door was opened, revealing Stefan, something about the look on his face told Mia that he'd been stood outside for a while. Rebekah turned to look at him but his gaze was fixed solely on the Petrova, causing the blonde's heart to sink. Without saying a word he tilted his head to the side and walked out as a gesture for Mia to follow him.
However she remained glued to her place, "I'm not a fucking dog that I'm gonna follow him like that." She murmured, crossing her arms stubbornly. After around ten seconds Stefan realised she wouldn't be joining him so he popped his head through the door and raised a brow. "Would you like to try that again, Philip?"
Stefan rolled his eyes and sighed in what seemed to be frustration, "Come outside..." He deadpanned and once again Mia didn't respond, part of him debated just leaving but he needed to fill Mia in on her role for the night, "Would you come here so I can talk to you?" In spite of the more polite invitation Mia refused again, there was still something missing from it, "Would you come here so I can talk to you.....please."
"Okay." Mia responded brightly, shuffling off the bed and walking out with a bounce in her step, the eyes of a jealous Mikaelson following her. "What do you want?" She asked before closing the door behind her, once she turned around her heart faltered at the sight of Stefan in a suit, but it was easier to cover this up with humour. "Ooh, look at you getting all pretty for your boyfriend."
"Hmm, cute." Stefan answered dryly, he then took her hand, leading her down the hall and into his bedroom. The look on Mia's face told him that she was slightly startled in case he tried to recreate what had happened between them on the Bonfire Night, "Don't flatter yourself, I wouldn't put up with the attitude you gave, just for a PG13 makeout."
For once in her life, Mia struggled to think of a comeback, mainly because he wasn't wrong, she was indeed worried he was going to kiss her again. "I just wanted to make sure you're on your best behaviour tonight. In other words, not being a complete bitch to Klaus."
"I think that's impossible." Mia declared. "If anything, that would make it more suspicious. I'm always mean to him, the switch-up would be too obvious. And also.." She hesitated. "I just..... Nevermind."
"What?" Stefan quizzed, when she ignored him the Salvatore gripped the back of her neck, forcing her to look at him. "What?" He suddenly became conscious of their close proximity, eyes locked in on each other with just about an inch of space in the middle of their lips. Nothing could happen between them, there was no chance. The Petrova's morals refused to let her be intimate with a humanity-less person, she believed it was taking advantage of them.
"I've been thinking about things a lot and...there's just too many coincidences. I mean, first I find out all these things about my family and magical blood that I had no idea about." Mia spoke frantically, moving away from him and pacing across the floor. She'd been holding all these thoughts in for a while. "I've spent my whole vampire life wondering how I was turned and I got nowhere. But now I know I was already a vampire by my 19th birthday...which was in the 20s. I lived in Chicago in the 20s...and so did Klaus. Maybe we knew each other, maybe he used my blood for something and then turned me so no one else could use it, he probably didn't even know that it would still work.."
An alarm immediately rang in Stefan's head, he was given orders to keep the truth away from Mia, that was mostly in case Rebekah decided to spill the secret, but now he knew a few lies would have to be told. Klaus wanted to be the one to reveal everything, if he didn't get his way...there would be consequences.
"You're not being serious, are you? Wow, Petrovas have the biggest egos." Stefan chuckled darkly, leaning back against the wall. "You really think you were turned directly by an Original, that Klaus wouldn't just kill you once he got what he wanted?" He could practically see the hope leave her body, it was understandable, having time taken away from you and longing for answers to fill the gap.
"Maybe you can't remember because..."Stefan started, moving forward and deciding to hit where it would hurt. "...you were just a complete mess. Maybe you binged on blood until you couldn't breathe and blacked out...it happens to the best of us."
After her theory was instantly shot down she saw no other explanation, "Yeah...maybe." She mumbled, biting the inside of her cheek. It was no secret that Mia prided herself on her self-control. For as long as she could remember, blood lust was never an issue for her, she could regulate the urges effortlessly, so the thought of not always being like that was bothersome.
"Hey." Stefan said in a surprisingly soft tone, anyone would think his humanity was back on, or at least creeping through. "You're my date to this thing, by the way." He declared, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a white rose corsage, "What colour are you wearing? I don't wanna mismatch, it'll be awkward."
"More awkward than being your date but spending the whole dance with Klaus?" Mia tilted her head, taking the bracelet from him. "I don't think I'll be able to do it, it feels wrong."
"Really? This is the hill you're choosing to die on?" Stefan rose a brow judgingly, "Almost every human in this entire town has been compelled to obey your every demand, but distracting an evil bastard hybrid is the thing that's too much for your sensitivity?."
"What?!" Mia's eyes grew wide, "What do you mean, I haven't compelled any..." Her mind raced with confusion until the growing smirk on his face dispersed the bewilderment, "...one." She brought her hands to Stefan's chest and shoved him back harshly, "You dick! Why the fuck would you do that?!"
Even though this had been concealed from her, it now left the feelings of self-disgust and hate, slowly convincing her that she'd been taking advantage of all these people. The thought of the compulsion being the only reason Fred was even interested in her caused a wanting need to vomit.
"Klaus told me to keep an eye on you." Stefan shrugged, obviously seeing nothing wrong in what he'd done. "I couldn't watch you and Elena at the same time so I needed something to keep your whining to a minimum."
"What the fuck." Mia huffed, massaging her temples and doing everything she could to hold back the explosion of rage that was begging to be let out. "I'm so tired of everyone making these kinds of decisions for me, I don't need you to watch out for me. And I sure as hell don't need that nosey motherfucker Klaus Mikaelson interfering in my life either!" Just as she was about to storm out, a hand was placed on her shoulder, holding her down.
"Then I'll make you a deal." The Salvatore spoke calmly, which alarmingly had an effect on the Petrova's racing pulse and her nerves, soothing them both. "If you manage to keep Klaus oblivious tonight, I'll undo all the compulsion."
A fair deal, one that wouldn't even have to be made if the hybrid minded his own business. Distracting and leading him to his death seemed less cruel after all the terrors he'd done. "Why me? I don't get it."
Despite being friends with Mia for so long this was the first time Stefan had decided to take her approach on lying.... disturbingly persuasive acting. He let out a deep sigh and mustered up a lie that would hopefully smash her suspicions and also annoy Klaus in the process. "I'm gonna let you in on a little secret. Klaus had a girlfriend, in the 20s, she was the only person he truly loved...maybe you remind him of her." It's technically not a lie.
"Did she look like me?" Mia questioned, taken aback by the new information. Although he was incredibly flirty with her, Mia struggled to imagine Klaus in a serious relationship with someone, she believed that if it came down to it, he would do anything to save himself, no matter who he was in love with.
"She was..." Stefan paused and recalled the memories, "...perfect. She had these eyes that held so much emotion and love, you could look at them for a second and know exactly how she felt. Her smile...lit up the whole room, if you were ever in a bad mood all you had to do was look at her smile or hear her laugh." He stared off into the distance as he continued the description, Mia's brows scrunched. It was odd that he spoke of this mysterious woman in such a way, especially for a vampire with no humanity.
"When you talked to her she made you feel like you were the only person in the world, she cared about what you had to say and genuinely listened...It didn't matter how many times someone wronged her, she still stuck by them." He turned his head to face her, their eyes connecting. "Kinda like you."
Although his words were sweet, they lacked the most important thing, emotion.
The two found themselves once again, in very close proximity to one another. Mia's gaze dropped to his lips for a split second, too quick for him to even catch. "What happened to her?" She whispered, ignoring the racing butterflies in her chest as Stefan tucked a lock of her hair behind her ear.
Stefan said nothing, he just continued to stare at the very woman he was talking about. Even though there were changes in her personality, Mia was still the same person at her core, and it was those qualities that made him want to feel something.
He wanted nothing more than to tell her the truth, but the moment he opened his mouth to try and attempt it ..."Mia.." A voice spoke from behind, he rolled his eyes upon realising it was Elena. His hand immediately grew cold once Mia stepped away from his grasp. Stefan turned around and glared at the doppelganger, who was clearly confused by the position the two vampires were just in. "Oh, I didn't mean to interrupt."
"You didn't.." "Then leave." Mia and Stefan spoke at the same time.
"Dick." The Petrova nudged him harshly in the ribs before taking Elena's hand and leaving the room. "God, he's annoying." She fumed, her face becoming even more serious when she saw Elena's frown. "What's wrong?"
"I just can't stop thinking about all the ways this plan can go wrong." Elena explained, running both hands through her hair, "I mean, first we had to worry about Mikael and now we have Rebekah to think about too. Do you really think we can trust her?"
The doppelganger's worry was understandable, Mia had her own doubts but ultimately decided to take Rebekah's word for it, "Yeah, I do. Klaus has taken so much from her, she's ready to have her own life."
"Even after she's spent her entire life with him?" Elena questioned, "I just know that, if it was Jeremy I wouldn't be able to do it."
"Jeremy hasn't put you in a dagger coma for decades." Mia responded, hoping she didn't sound harsh. "Look, if you can't trust Rebekah, then trust me. I won't let anything happen to you." She pulled her descendant into an embrace, believing that she would heed her words.

"I fear I've made a mistake." Rebekah announced to Mia, who was in the middle of lightly curling her hair. "I bought too many dresses and now I can't decide which one to wear."
"Lemme see." Mia approached the bed, looking down at the vast amount of dresses spread across the mattress. The blonde Original had indeed done an excessive amount of shopping, even bringing back several dresses for Mia. "This one." She picked up a tight-fitted, mid-thigh length dress, "You'd suit emerald green. Hell, you'd suit any colour."
"Thank you." Rebekah beamed, walking over to the mirror and holding it against her body. She'd missed being able to ask Mia for fashion advice and also spoiling the vampire with lots of clothes. Her attention was immediately shifted when a particular witch entered the room.
"Wow, it looks like a boutique in here." Bonnie laughed and went straight to Mia, squeezing the girl in her arms whilst Rebekah watched with an unreadable look. It wasn't until the Bennett let go of Mia that she realised the Original was also in the room, "Oh...hi."
"Hello." Rebekah responded with a small smile.
"Mia told me to come over and pick a dress..." Bonnie explained, she'd lost track of time since the Jeremy cheating scandal, spending most of her time alone in her room. Not that Mia didn't check up on her every single hour and also went to the lengths of sleeping outside her room one night, to make sure she didn't hear crying. "I completely forgot homecoming was tonight."
"There's loads on the bed, Bon." Mia said, she was too busy admiring herself and her makeup skills. This crappy school doesn't deserve to see me like this. "Take a few just in case."
Bonnie stood by the edge of the bed, her eyes scanning each piece of clothing but none of them stuck out to her. She was determined to look amazing that night, even though Jeremy wouldn't be attending the dance, the witch wanted the news of how hot she looked to reach him. She wanted him to see the pictures online and sob.
"This would look lovely on you." Rebekah spoke softly, holding out the emerald green dress that Mia had initially picked for her. "The colour suits you perfectly."
Bonnie reached out hesitantly then finally took hold of it, it was everything she had been hoping for and would most definitely make Jeremy wish he'd never even set eyes on Anna in the first place. "Thank you, it's beautiful."
"I'm certain you'll look beautiful in it." The Original replied instantly, Mia looked at the two through the mirror with an amused and slightly confused expression, "Would you like help doing your hair...or makeup?"
"Um no....thank you." Bonnie replied, wondering why her heart skipped a beat at that request, she swayed awkwardly trying to think of something else to say. "Okay....I'm gonna go." She turned on her heel and speed walked out of the room not even giving Mia a chance to say bye.
"Goodbye!" Rebekah called after her, her gaze remaining glued to the door until Bonnie was no longer in sight. Tyler had arranged for Matt to escort her to the dance but now the blonde couldn't have cared less about him, she was looking forward to running into the witch again, to see her wearing the dress that she chose. "Is she spoken for...Bonnie?"
"She was..." Mia began, trying to hide the huge smile on her face which soon vanished when she recalled what the Gilbert boy had done. "She dated Jeremy for a while but he cheated on her with Caspar The Child Loving Ghost."
Rebekah's eyes widened at the last part so the Petrova elaborated, "His ex-girlfriend, Anna. She was a vampire, they dated when he was 15 and then she got turned into a s'more. When all the ghosts came back, so did she. I walked in on them making out."
"Little fool." Rebekah scowled, "Some people don't know how to appreciate a good thing when they have it."
"Yeah.." Mia murmured, wondering if she should tell the Original about Sebastian but there was no reason to bring the mood down so she opted for a chance to know more about Rebekah, "What about you? I heard about you and Stefan, but you don't really talk about it much." She paused realising how nosy and intrusive that sounded, "You don't have to talk about it, if you don't want to."
"It's okay. And anyways..." Rebekah sat down on the bed, her mind racing with the thoughts she'd been holding back since the 20s. Things she never would've said to Mia back then but now there was no need to keep them concealed, it wasn't as if she would remember them anyways. "There was never truly a me and Stefan."
"What do you mean?" Mia furrowed her brows, "I thought you two dated in Chicago."
"We did." Rebekah lowered her gaze, fidgeting with the edge of the blanket, "But even during our time together...he was always in love with another."
"Seriously?" The look of sympathy and shock on Mia's face caused Rebekah to regret voicing this for a split second, she felt deceitful, complaining about her ex-lover to the very woman he was obviously in love with. Stefan clearly thought he was being discreet but it was evident to everyone who knew them back then.
She knew what everyone thought. Oh, poor Rebekah. So oblivious to the fact her man wants nothing to do with her. But that wasn't the case. She knew, she always knew, but she also held on to the possibility of him learning to love her instead. In her eyes she deserved it, to be someone's second choice, even more so after the way she treated Tommy.
"Stefan adored...Malia." The Original mentally slapped herself for not coming up with a better fake name, "He looked at her like she was everything. As if he was drowning and she was his only supply of air. He thought I didn't know his humanity was on but it was impossible not to, you can't fake emotions like the ones he showed whenever she was around."
"It pained me to see him so enamoured with another woman, not that I could blame him." She shrugged as Mia sat down beside her, "Everyone loved her, it was impossible not to. Malia was a light, a beacon of hope, something to show us that the world wasn't as dark as we believed it to be. As much as it hurt me, I simply overlooked it. She wouldn't have shared his affection...her heart belonged to another."
Mia tilted her head, the cogs in her brain turning at lightning speed as she connected the dots from the two separate descriptions of this woman. "It was Klaus' girlfriend? The one that Stefan was in love with?"
"What?" Rebekah's lips parted in shock, "How do you-"
"Stefan mentioned something about her earlier, I kinda got the hint from the way he was talking about her. But I mean..." Mia laid back on the mattress, stretching her arms. "I can't imagine anyone wanting someone else if they had you."
"That's only because you never met her..." The blonde replied, finding the irony of the situation very uncomfortable. "She was very dear to all of us, most especially Nik. Don't get me wrong, he was still the cruel bastard that he continues to be today but with her, he was .... less of a cruel bastard." Mia giggled at the comment, bringing her hand to the Original's hair, twirling the strands around her finger.
"She wasn't just Nik's girlfriend or Stefan's obsession..." Rebekah began, feeling herself becoming more emotional. "She was my best friend, my closest confidante. I would've done anything for her."
"Would've?" Mia sat up, resting on her elbows. "Did she die?"
Tears started to roll down Rebekah's face, she shook her head whilst Mia's eyes softened with concern. "We don't have to talk about it."
"I'm fine..."She assured, wiping away the tears which was futile as more just appeared, "I'm fine. When..." Her voice haltered. I despise my brother. "When Mikael found us, we had to leave her behind. Nik stuck a dagger in my heart then abandoned her, I didn't even get to say goodbye."
"That's so fucked up." Mia scowled, adding another point to her Reasons to hate Klaus the Horny, Homicidal Hybrid list.
"He did what he thought was best, he thought he was protecting her from Mikael but I think subconsciously he was trying to protect her from himself. Nik could foresee the terrors he would have to commit to lift his curse, and wanted to shield her from it. Malia wouldn't have defended him if she was still with us. Still, he didn't think about how anyone else would be affected after losing her."
"I'm sorry." Mia placed her hand over Rebekah's, "That's really unfair, you lost her too." The Petrova wouldn't say this out loud but she was unsettled by all this new information. The main reason Klaus was constantly harassing her was because she was similar to his past lover but now she also believed that Rebekah shared a bond with her for the very same reason. "I'm sure she probably feels the same way."
Oh, sweet girl. You have no idea. Rebekah thought to herself, she pondered on the pros and cons of simply telling Mia everything but wasn't in any hurry to be daggered again. It was easier to just throw Mia completely off the scent of the possibility of Malia ever being her, "Anyways, when Nik undaggered me in Chicago I did a little hunting, she's married now, living happily in a charming country house by a lake."
"That's good." Mia smiled softly, "Maybe one day you could reach out to her and become friends again, just keep Klaus out of it. I'm just gonna take a wild guess and say that he wouldn't care if she was married or not, he'd still try to get her back."
"Yes, I suppose he would." Rebekah chuckled, she felt the strong urge to break down and cry over the cruelty and unnecessary difficulty of these state of affairs so decided to make Mia leave. "Now, take these.." She handed her three dresses, "And go get ready, I don't want to see you until the dance, it's bad luck."
"I thought that was for weddings. Hold on...is this dance a cover up? Are you actually trying to trap me in a marriage Miss Mikaelson?" Mia said with a teasing smile, Why do I make everything gay?
"You'll have to wait and see." The Original giggled, picking up her own pink dress that she'd chosen after giving Bonnie the other one. "We don't have much time, I want to make a fashionably late entrance but not too late that everyone is more focussed on the wailings of the god-awful band. Matt will escort me to the school so I'll see you there."
"Can't wait!" Mia sang, leaving the room but just as she walked out the door she saw Elena making her way towards it. "You okay?"
"Yeah...I.." Elena hesitated, "I just...uh...I just wanted to give Rebekah her necklace back, try to make peace."
"Thank you for trying, baby." Mia's arms were busy holding the dresses so she just gave Elena a side hug and pecked a kiss on her cheek. "It means a lot."
Elena simply smiled back before walking into the room and closing the door behind her. Unbeknownst to Mia, the doppelganger had no intention of making peace. In fact, she entered that room with the objective of doing the complete opposite.

"You know, if you change the angle of the knife you'll get a sharper edge." Mia advised Damon, who was attempting to sharpen wooden stakes. The two were sat in the living room, keeping an eye on Mikael.
"I know how to whittle." Damon hit back, blowing off the sawdust. Mia's eye twitched at the sight of all the mess on the floor. "See." He tossed the small stake in her lap, his lips curved into a smile as she inspected it. "I made you a pocket stake."
If it wasn't a weapon that could easily kill her, Mia would've found the miniature stake cute, she turned it around and traced her finger over her name that'd been carved into the wood. "Oh my god, thank you!" She mocked, "Now people can return it to me if I ever lose it." The sarcasm in her voice was evident but she actually thought the gesture was endearing.
"Anything for you." Damon beamed, sliding a silk holster for the stake across the table, "You might wanna keep this on you tonight, who knows how much backup Klaus might have."
"Coward can't fight us on his own." Mia mumbled, fully aware that he could easily kill all of them if he had the chance. "You're going to have to drive us there by the way, I'm not really in the mood to be in a car with Phillip."
Before Damon could respond his phone had gone off, the look in his eyes made it clear that it was Elena that'd messaged him, the speed at which he left the room was enough to confirm that. She's got that motherfucker on a leash. Mia awkwardly shuffled in her seat, it was the first time she'd been alone in a room with Mikael.
She tried to ignore his relentless glare that'd been practically burning holes in the side of her face. Is he okay? Do I say something? The Petrova twirled her small stake between her fingers and wondered if it would do much damage if she was to launch it at him. What would I even say? Hey Mr Fossil, can you please stop staring at me, I feel violated. Ugh, I see where Klaus got his creepiness from....wait they're not even related. Maybe he got it from his mom, I wonder what she's like.
How Rebekah and Elijah are a part of this family is beyond me, they're too hot to share this guy's genes. Too adorable too. God, I miss Elijah. I could use a holiday right now...Oh my God, why is he still staring?! Should I bark at him, make him think I'm rabid. Where's Philip when you need him?
It was then Mikael spoke up, in a low threatening tone. "I know you have it so I suggest you make it easier for yourself and simply hand it over."
Bitch what? Mia turned her head to face him. "Excuse me? Have what?" The cluelessness written in her expression did nothing but fuel his anger.
"Don't play oblivious with me, girl!" Mikael yelled, slamming his cup of tea on the table which caused the porcelain to shatter and burning contents to splash and land on Mia. She winced slightly at the sudden burn, gazing down at her light pink dress that was now stained.
"Son of a bitch!" The brunette fumed, standing up from her seat and patting herself with a napkin. "What the fuck is wrong with you? You wrinkly, fossilised bastard!"
"I said give it to me!" Mikael shouted, also shooting up from his chair.
"I have no clue what you're talking about." Mia exclaimed, pressing her hands together and bringing them to her lips as she tried to stop herself from throwing the table at him. "I swear to God, you're just as crazy as Klaus."
"Fine." The Original patriarch nodded and began to storm off, "If you won't give it to me then I'll tear this place apart until it is in my possession." He made his way towards Mia's room whilst she followed him in complete bewilderment. "I know Elijah gave it to you."
As soon as he entered the room, he started throwing things off the shelves, scouring through her things. "What are you doing?!" Mia screamed with wide eyes, "Just tell me what you're looking for!" He ignored her and carried on with his search, opening up her wardrobe and ransacking everything until all her clothes were on the floor. "Mikael!"
Her curtains were torn from the rail, the bay window seat was pulled apart and destroyed. Mikael was on the warpath and wouldn't stop until he'd found what he was searching for, regardless of the damage he had to cause. The body-length mirror was pushed to the ground, fragments of glass scattered all across the room whilst she saw one of the only places she was truly comfortable in being demolished.
He moved over to her bed, tugging off the covers and flipping the mattress, making it fly across the room. But it wasn't until he knocked over and broke the framed picture of Lexi and Jesse, that she truly lost her temper. "Stop, you stupid cunt!" Mikael's head whipped in her direction, his eyes blazing with rage, in that moment Mia was the most terrified she'd ever been in his presence. "I've already told you, I don't know what you're talking about."
"I'm getting tired of your lies, wench!" Mikael charged towards her but stopped in his tracks when he looked at the fireplace. He glanced over at her for a split second as if he was pondering the possibility of her being that intelligent to hide something there. Then within a flash he sped towards it, yanking off the wooden panel on the side, and let out a breath of relief when the thing he'd been looking for was finally there.
"Then what, pray tell, is this?" He snarled, showing her a stake. But it wasn't just any ordinary stake, it was another kind. One that Mia had only seen once before, during the sacrifice, in the hands of Elijah.
"I...I had no idea that was there." Mia stammered, her heart racing at lightning speed, "I swear to you, I don't even know what it is." Why does he care so much about a crappy stake?
"This.. is a stake made entirely out of the white oak tree that powered the spell to create the first vampires. It is the only thing on this Earth that can kill an Original. Before we burned down the tree, I fashioned up this stake in the hopes that one day I'd get the pleasure of piercing it through Niklaus' heart." Mia looked over at the door, debating how far she'd managed to get before he killed her. "However it was stolen from me...By Elijah and he gave it to you."
"He didn't." Mia shook her head frantically, all this time she'd been in the possession of the weapon that could kill Klaus once and for all. And all this time, she'd had absolutely no clue that it was in her room. "Elijah had access to the house, he could've easily hidden it here after the sacrifice, he never told me." Mia would be lying if she said she wasn't hurt, the fact Elijah had done this yet kept it a secret, the fact she was put in danger for something she never gave permission to even be kept in her room. "He didn't tell me." She repeated quietly.
"Then take this as an opportunity to learn." Mikael quipped, "They're not to be trusted, none of them. They may act as though they're on your side but in the end, their loyalty belongs to Niklaus, and Niklaus only." That was a statement she couldn't bring herself to disagree with, it was entirely true, she just hoped that Rebekah would be the one to prove it wrong.
What Mia should've done was agree and leave, get away from the Original as soon as she could. But when did Mia Pierce ever choose the sensible option?
"You're just jealous." She mumbled, looking at the ground. "Klaus treats them like crap, he daggers them repeatedly but they still care about him. But you, their dad, they despise you." The brunette mustered up enough courage to make eye contact with him. "Klaus may be the one you've been chasing all these centuries but they've ran beside him the whole time. And that makes you mad because you know no matter what you do, you will never have anyone be that loyal to you."
"You might want to close that mouth of yours before you regret it." Mikael warned, his nostrils flared and the vein in his forehead became visible.
But Mia couldn't care less about his anger, she was more concerned on getting her point across, "You claim to hate Klaus but if anything, you're obsessed with him. Call me crazy, but I kinda think you want to be him. He's superior to you in every way; strength, power and he has your whole family wrapped around his dagger."
"He turned them against me." The Original's body shook with anger, "He killed my wife!"
"You turned them against you!" Mia pointed at him, "Also, he killed the same woman that cheated on you, she may have been your wife but she was also his mother. The mother that'd kept the truth about his birth a secret from him, the mother that allowed you to believe he was truly your son. Whatever Klaus is, he became that because of the two of you!"
It felt strange to defend the hybrid and she would never admit this to his face but Mia did feel sorry for him, it wasn't an excuse for him to behave the way he did now but Mikael and his mother were the ones that lit the fuse.
"Dead or alive, Klaus will always haunt you. He's the one constant reminder that you failed as a father, that you failed at life. Today may help all of us but it won't do anything for you. Because without Klaus, without any of your kids, you have no purpose."
Suddenly she was shoved back, a hand tightly clasped around her throat, restricting her breathing. Another hand was then pushed through her chest, "I warned you." Mikael seethed, practically foaming at the mouth, he held her up against the wall, the feeling of her heart beating around his fist was the only thing that could soothe him in that moment.
Tears steamed up Mia's eyes as she looked down at quite possibly the last face she would ever see, she instantly regretted all the words she'd said. Well, not really because they were all true but she definitely wished she kept them in her thoughts. "This is the thing with young vampires, they're insolent. They don't understand how to respect their superiors, I could take your life in a second."
She felt completely helpless, waiting for the moment when her heart would be plucked out of her chest, the suffocating feeling of the organ being squeezed was enough for her to desire death already. Her vision began to blacken, all air was completely cut off, all he had to do was move his hand and she'd be gone. That's what he was planning to do. Until....
"Let her go." A voice spoke from the other side of the room. Stefan stood there, holding his arm out. Mikael didn't even spare him a glance, instead, he shook his hand teasingly around Mia's heart, as a reminder that her life was entirely in his hands.
"Now, why should I listen to you?" He chuckled darkly, "The man not even in control of his own emotions, I should've burned down this whole town the second I stepped foot into it. You're pathetic, the lot of you."
"That may be so, but we're also the only chance you have at killing Klaus." Stefan retorted, pulling his phone from his pocket. "Put her down or I'll call him right now and warn him not to come back. What will you do then?"
"You wouldn't." Mikael scoffed, "You want him gone just as much as I do, are you seriously going to let this one whore get in the way of that?"
"Well, that whore happens to be one of the only things I care about." Stefan responded, crossing his arms. If Mia wasn't half dead she would've taken offence to what he'd just called her, "Once Klaus is dead, I'll be free from his compulsion. You kill her and the first thing I'm doing once my humanity is back on, is coming from you." He showed the Original his phone screen, his finger millimetres away from Klaus' name and the call button.
Mikael was in two minds, if he let her go it would show he was weak, if he killed her then he would lose the opportunity to get Klaus. He decided to look at the bigger picture, it would be better to vanquish Klaus then come back for Mia and the rest of the group later. Kill multiple vampires with one stake.
He released her from his hold, dropping her limp body to the ground with a thud. Mia tried to sit up but didn't have the strength to, she gasped for air and watched Mikael leave the room. "What the fuck." She whispered, her whole body shaking, that was the closest to death she'd ever been, apart from her transition, which of course she couldn't remember.
A hand lightly touched her back but she flinched as soon as it made contact, "It's just me." Stefan comforted, but his voice was still completely void of emotion, "It's okay, he's gone." Seeing Mikael almost kill Mia was the closest his humanity had gotten to almost sneaking through, it would've completely if she actually died in that moment.
Mia wanted nothing more than to lay there and sob, but she knew that'd mean Mikael had won, he would know he managed to make her feel weak and powerless. So instead she stood up, pressing her hand against the wall for support as Stefan stood right beside her with his arms out in case she fell. "I thought the next time I got myself into a stupid, dangerous situation you were going to stand there and laugh at me." She joked.
"So did I." Stefan admitted, his eyes darted to the gaping hole in her dress that Mikael's hefty hand had caused. "You might wanna get changed." He grabbed the blue dress from the floor and hung it on her shoulder, "Hurry up, the dance is starting soon." It was unfair, after everything that'd just happened Mia was still expected to spend the night distracting Klaus.
But there was one thought that absolutely petrified her. If that's how Mikael reacted to a few insults, then what would Klaus do to her if he found out the whole plan?
A/N: HELLO MY DARLINGSSSS. I hope u enjoyed that chapter. Ngl i hate it but oh well. It would've been wayyy longer but I know people lose focus with long, long, long chapter and then you mfs skim which annoys me.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE.
Sorry to the Klaus fans, he will be in the NEXT chapter. Also I know some people like it when the OC tells Klaus about the whole plan but Mia has no reason to do that. If anything, she should be the one to stake him.
Mia getting ready to argue with Mikael:
(We all know that if they were to have a verbal fight she would win, the mf cheated and tried to kill her....What do we think Klaus gonna do when he finds out?)
The next chapter is going to have a lot of tension, not just between Klaus and Mia but also others. YALL BONEKAH OWNS MEEE, They're gonna be a bit rushed ngl only bc I love them sm.
THANK YOU FOR 308K READS AND 12K VOTES
LOVE YOUUUUU
