Damon Salvatore.

Mia wasn't at all surprised to find out it was him. She didn't know him personally nor did she need to. She already hated him for what he did to Lexi in 1977. 

The older Salvatore brother had turned his humanity off, he fed and killed many innocent people so his brother Stefan had sent Lexi to go and help him. She spent six months trying to get him to turn it back on and he repaid the favour by pretending he was in love with her, sleeping with her, then leaving her on the rooftop of a club and barricading the door so she couldn't leave until the sun went down.

Six months she spent trying to save someone who didn't want to be saved. Six months she spent away from Mia because she was doing a favour for friend. Six months wasted because Damon Salvatore was an asshole who only cared about himself.

And now he had just increased the expectation of how evil and heartless he was. He had killed Lexi. He was the reason Mia was alone. 

Mia knew all about Stefan and Lexi's relationship. They had been best friends for a long time and they really cared about each other. Although Mia had never actually met the younger Salvatore brother she knew enough about him to know that, even though he may be angry about his brother killing his best friend, he would never repay the favour and kill Damon. This meant that it was up to Mia to avenge Lexi.

"Here you go" Lee handed the brunette a small box, she opened it to find a silver ring with a lapis lazuli gemstone. It was a daylight ring. Mia hadn't owned one before because she never felt the need for one. She enjoyed the feeling of freedom when the sun had finally set and the sense of routine when it had risen again. However if she was going to Mystic Falls she felt it was necessary to have one so she could play the role of a regular teenager.

"Thanks, you're a lifesaver" she took the ring out of the box and placed in on her finger. She then walked towards the curtains opened them slightly and slowly placed her hand into the light. "Works like a charm, remind me to send Olive flowers." she sighed in relief as she looked at her hand that would've normally scalded if she wasn't wearing the ring.

"So, when you leaving?" Lee asked. He wasn't going to bother trying to convince her not to kill Damon, he didn't want her to lower herself to the older Salvatore brother's level but knew that the Petrova girl was stubborn especially when she was angry.

"Tonight" Mia responded, she had spent the last two days getting everything ready. She contacted Mystic Falls High School and compelled a school superintendent to ensure she would get a place. She would use the name Mia Pierce because she wasn't registered anywhere under that name. The last trace of her was in 1921 when the body of Amelia Petrova was found in Chicago and she was ruled out as dead. And it was true, Amelia Petrova was indeed dead but Mia Pierce was alive and thriving.

"I guess this is the last time I'm going to see you then" Lee made his way over to the girl.

"Yeah, i guess it is" she hugged him and walked him towards the door " Take care of yourself Lee, be happy, you deserve good things."

"Yeah, you too Mia" he walked away as Mia watched the only person that was remotely close to her leave.

She gathered all her luggage and belongings by the front door and tried to picture what the rest of her life would be like. She had a plan, she would go to Mystic Falls and kill Damon Salvatore, if his brother became a problem she would kill him too but she was hoping it wouldn't have to come to that. Then she would get to know her last living relative Elena Gilbert, she just hoped that Elena was a nice girl and easy to get along with otherwise she had no idea what she would do with the rest of her life.

She took a look around the house, she was taking everything that was precious with her, leaving behind only the furniture, kitchenware and the ugly vase that Jesse had bought from a flea market. The house was full of memories of her, Lexi and Jesse, the three of them had lived there for so long. It was their sanctuary, where they would spend their days desperately waiting for the sun to go down and where they would return, tired and drunk, when it had come back up. A part of her felt that she was insulting her friends by leaving the house especially because she knew that she would never return.

Her thoughts were interrupted by a car horn, her taxi had arrived. Mia never learned how to drive, she never needed to. She would never go anywhere without Jesse or Lexi and they both had their licenses so she didn't felt the need to learn. Now she wished she had heeded their advice and learned because she was stuck relying on taxis as her form of transport. She had compelled the driver to take her all the way to Virginia. This was an 8 hour journey so she decided that she would actually pay him instead of just leaving like she normally would. As they drove off Mia took one last look at the house, feeling sad about what she was leaving behind but ready for what was to come.

"Welcome to Mystic Falls Virginia" 

Seeing the town sign had caused her to think about her past. It had been 88 years since she left this town, she was 18 years old, all alone, feeling scared and grieving the deaths of her loved ones.

 And although she was now returning alone and grieving the death of a loved one, she wasn't the slightest bit scared, if anything seeing the town had brought back the memories of her mistreatment and it fuelled her anger. 

She waved goodbye to her driver after giving him the immense amount of money. She felt sorry that he had to go back on that long journey just so he could reach home but not sorry enough to regret it. He had gotten her to where she needed to be.

Mia stood on the sidewalk with her luggage across the street from a food place called the Mystic Grill. She had placed an order on the phone and they had told her to wait 20 minutes before her food would be ready. The town looked nice, it had certainly changed a lot since she last saw it but she enjoyed the changes and believed that it would be a good place for her to live.

" You running away?" a voice suddenly spoke up from behind her. She turned around to find a woman with strawberry blonde hair and hazel eyes smiling at her. Mia was a little taken back by the woman's beauty and found it difficult to think of a response.

"Um no" she shifted in a nervous manner "I'm new in town, I've come to stay with some family friends but they're still getting my room ready so I'm going to the motel."

" I don't think you're going to want to stay in the motel" the woman walked closer to Mia " The owner is a total creep, you'd be better off staying at Mrs Flowers Bed and Breakfast, she's a harmless old lady, really nice. I can call her and see if she has a room for you if you want."

Mia looked at the woman and smiled. She quickly abandoned the plan she made when she first saw the woman, which was to lure her to the nearest alleyway and feed from her. "Thank you so much, that would be amazing"

"Of course, you look about my niece's age and i know i would want someone to help her if she was in the same situation" the woman held her hand out "Sorry, I've just been rambling and i haven't even introduced myself yet, I'm Jenna"

"Mia" she shook her hand and had the strong urge to hug her but decided that it would be too creepy considering they just met.

" Well, i better get home. The kids are going to be waiting for the food" she motioned to the bags she was holding. "But it was really great meeting you Mia, see you around"

"You too, bye" Mia replied. She watched Jenna walk away as she thought to herself how easy it would be to make Mystic Falls her home. She already had made a good impression on one person so it wouldn't be difficult to do it with the rest of the town.

Realising that it had been 20 minutes since she placed her order, she made her way into the Mystic Grill and walked up to the counter where a boy with blonde hair and blue eyes stood. "Hey, welcome to the Mystic Grill. How can i help you today?" he smiled as he looked at her, trying not to get flustered.

"Hi, I placed a phone order under Mia, they said it would be 20 minutes but if it's not ready I can wait." She was in no rush, after all she didn't really have a home or parents that she had to get back to.

"Lemme check, one sec" he walked away and returned after a minute with a bag in his hand. "Here you go" he handed her the bag and she thanked him. "I haven't seen you around before, you new in town?" 

"Yeah, got my first day at school tomorrow." she spoke whilst she got money from her purse to pay for the food.

"No" he held his hand up "its on the house, consider it a welcome to town gift." When she resisted and insisted that he took the money he decided to change the suspect. "You a junior?"

"Yeah" Mia nodded, she hoped he would say that he's also a junior, it would be easier if she already knew someone when she had her first day.

"Same, I'm Matt by the way" 

"I'm Mia" she heard a sigh and looked behind her to see a woman waiting. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to hold the line. It was really nice meeting you Matt."

"Wait..." he grabbed his phone from the side "Lemme give you my num-" he looked up to see that she had already gone "-ber" He was disappointed but eager to see her the next day.

Mia looked into the mirror, her outfit was cute enough to make a good impression but not too eye grabbing so she wouldn't stand out . As she was leaving she was stopped by Mrs Flowers who was holding a green apple. 

"Here you go dear, its always good to start the day with something fresh." the old woman handed her the apple. " Enjoy your first day at school."

"Thank you so much" she hugged Mrs Flowers then left.

Mystic Falls High School.

It looked like a regular high school with regular kids and Mia was ancient, blood sucking killer so why was she so nervous?

As she walked down the halls she heard someone call out her name and she turned around to see Matt with another boy with brown hair.

"Woah, who's the new chick" the boy murmured to Matt. "she's hot."

" Her names Mia, be nice Ty." Matt responded, he looked at his friend who wore a smirk on his face as he watched the girl approach them. "Not that nice." Matt warned as he smacked his friend's arm.

"Hi Matt" Mia smiled brightly, she was happy that he spoke to her. He seemed like a really nice guy so she added him to her 'do not feed from' list along with Jenna.

"Hey, I'm Tyler, Tyler Lockwood" the boy grinned. 

Mia's eyes widened as she recognised his last name. The Lockwood's were one of the main founding families of the town. "As in like Mayor Lockwood?" she asked. Of course she knew the answer but she wanted to fuel Tyler's ego a bit.

"Yeah, that's my dad" before he could say anymore the bell rang. Matt stood in front of his friend and moved closer to Mia.

"So, what lesson have you got first?" he asked taking the schedule from the Petrova girl's hand. "Ah history with Mr Saltzman, I'll show you where it is. I'm in the lesson too but I have a meeting with the guidance counsellor." 

They walked to the class, then Matt gave her his number and told her to call him at lunch so they could meet up. "Don't worry, the teacher's super nice. You'll love him."

Mia looked into the classroom and sighed with relief to see that no students had arrived yet. Only the teacher was there so she walked in.

The man noticed her and spoke up "You must be Mia Pierce" she nodded. "I'm Alaric Saltzman, but you can call me Ric, most of my students do"

Alaric Saltzman. Mia had heard of him, he was married to another Petrova descendant Isobel Flemming. She remembers visiting that girl when she was 17 and about to have a baby. She was on a weekend trip in New York whilst 8 months pregnant. Like Mia, Isobel knew all about the Petrova bloodline. When Isobel told her that she wasn't planning on keeping the baby Mia offered to take the child in and raise her as her own but Isobel assured her that she already had a family in mind and that the baby would be raised in a happy and loving environment. They never saw each other again after that which Mia regretted especially after she heard the news that the Flemming girl had passed away.

"There's a spare seat in the back corner so you can sit there" he motioned to the seat "I hope you enjoy your first day and the rest of your time at this school."

She sat down and watched as students entered the classroom and took their seats. Then she saw her, a girl with brown hair and brown eyes. The Petrova doppelganger , Isobel's daughter, Elena Gilbert.  God she looks just like Katerina.

Sat next to her was a guy, Mia recognised him from the framed picture that used to be on Lexi's bedside table, it was Stefan Salvatore. 

Because she was sat in the corner none of the students acknowledged her presence until Alaric did the attendance register. "Mia Pierce" Alaric called out. 

This caused Stefan to turn around and look at her with confusion on his face. He felt as if he had seen the girl before but he couldn't remember where. Her last name's Pierce. Could she have something to do with Katherine?  He looked over at Elena and saw a similar expression on her face and he knew that they were thinking the same thing.

Class had ended and Mia was walking towards her locker when she bumped into someone and dropped her folder. "I'm so sorry, i wasn't watching where i was walking." she knelt down and began to gather her papers.

"No don't be, it was my fault." the person came down to her level and helped her with the papers. She looked up from the floor to see that it was Stefan Salvatore. "I'm Stefan, we have history together."

"Yeah, we do." She looked into his eyes. How are they so green?! She had always found the younger Salvatore brother very attractive but constantly turned down Lexi's offers to get them together.

Stefan looked down at her hands and saw her daylight ring. So she's a vampire. "I like your ring" he tapped the blue gemstone on her hand. 

Mia copied his actions and touched his ring "I like yours more" She stood up "I'll see you around then" 

"Yeah, see you around" he handed her the papers and walked off, eager to tell Elena what he had learned.

Mia had lunch with Matt, his friend Tyler had joined them. The Lockwood boy was very flirty, Mia couldn't take him seriously but she still played along. 

"So what do you think about having dinner at the Grill with me tonight?" Tyler asked as they were walking outside. "Say about 8 o'clock"

"Seriously Tyler, its her first day and you're already trying to get into her pants" a blonde girl had appeared and looked at Tyler with her hands on her hips. "God, stop being such a creep"

"Don't be such a buzzkill Forbes" he snapped "I'm just asking her out for dinner"

Forbes, another founding family member. God, they're just everywhere.

"And I'm just declining your offer on her behalf" she spoke, cocking her said to the side. The girl linked her arms with Mia's and walked off. "Sorry about him, he doesn't know when to stop. Trust me though, that is not the direction you want to go down. He's a dick." 

"Its fine, I'm from Georgia so I'm totally used to it" Mia tried to hide her smile as she saw their arms hooked around each others.

"You should still totally come with me to the Grill tonight. Its like our hang spot" she held her hand out "Give me your phone, i need to put my number in" 

When the blonde girl handed the phone back Mia looked down to see that she had saved her self as "Caroline x".  The girl handed her phone over "Your turn" she smiled brightly.

The two walked back towards the school where Mia saw Stefan Salvatore stood by a locker with the doppelganger. 

Mia watched as he whispered something to her then quickly avoided eye contact when Elena looked towards her direction.

Finally, first day of school finished.

Mia was walking with Caroline into the school parking lot. The Forbes girl had shown up outside the classroom of Mia's last lesson, which was creepy but also endearing.

"So, where's your car?" Caroline asked her.

"I don't have one" Mia laughed, feeling embarrassed. "I just never learned how to drive so I'm stuck taking taxis." She cursed at herself once again wishing that she had taken Lexi's and Jesse's advice.

"Oh that's fine" Caroline smiled "I can just pick you up from Mrs Flowers at 7 then" She couldn't explain it but she liked the idea of having someone depend on her. She was also excited to show off her new friend to Elena and Bonnie.

In the evening Caroline had picked Mia up and the two were sat in the Grill. "So, do you have your eyes on any guy yet" she spoke with both her hands resting on the side of her face, smiling mischievously.

"Um no, not yet" Mia replied "but you know, its only the first day so maybe I'll see one soon" she added when she saw the disappointment on Caroline's face. 

"Just as long as it isn't Matt" she gave her a warning look "We kind have a thing, well I'm trying to makes us have a thing" She leaned closer to Mia and began to whisper as if someone would be listening to their conversation. "He was dating Elena until she decided that she was the main character of a Kate Hudson movie and declared that it wasn't passionate enough" she scoffed " I mean we're 17 how much passion does she expect from high school boys."

Mia laughed at this which earned her an approving look from Caroline who was feeling rather proud at the fact she made someone laugh. She decided that Mia was good enough to be her friend and that she would make sure she felt welcome in town.

The two girls ate their food and talked for an hour, Matt would stop at their table every so often and chat to them but then would quickly return to his job. Mia saw the way Caroline looked at Matt and vice versa. It was clear that there was something there between the two and Mia was excited to see where it would go.

All of a sudden something caught Mia's eye. It was a man with black hair and piercing blue eyes, walking into the Grill. Mia watched as he sat down at the bar and snapped his fingers at Matt so he could order something. 

It was him.

Damon Salvatore.

Soooo Mia's arrived at Mystic Falls and she's already made some new friends. Just some information, this is still in the Season 1 plot so Caroline isn't a vampire yet.

Also can we just appreciate Jenna giving Mia bi panic. 

Mia has seen Damon so the next chapter will be her starting her plan.

Also yes i did change that Isobel has a baby at 17 instead of 16, just so it fits the Petrova curse.
