CHAPTER THIRTY SEVEN—
i'm highly suspicious that everyone here wants you.

Kody had gone to the store to get his Mom a present as an apology for how he acted when she first announced her pregnancy. He circled the isle and stopped at the sight of Kenny eying the video games. He hesitated, knowing he should just keep walking to the gardening section, but couldn't help himself. "Hey, Kenny."

The boy looked over, glaring in the slightest. "What do you want?"

"Just to tell you hi." he walked closer as he chewed on the inside of his mouth. "You here by yourself?"

"Why?" he tried to stand a little taller, but Kody was a little over average height as is. He shrugged back as Kenny looked away. "Yeah."

Kody looked at the wall of all the games. "That's a good one. I recommend."

Kenny was confused by all of this. "Kody, what do you want? You want to start a fight?"

"Nu-uh." he shook his head at him. "I guess I just wanted to say that I don't think you should be friends with Kyler."

"It's not any of your business who i'm friends with." he stated bitterly but knew where it was coming from, dropping the act some. "It wasn't cool what he said to you at the waterpark. I don't agree with it. Just so you know."

"I figured." Kody rocked on his heels just a little. "But, do you really wanna be friends with someone who does think that way? I mean...Kylers done some really bad things. Not just karate bad things."

Kenny didn't understand, and Kody wasn't about to talk about it when it wasn't necessary his story to talk about. "We've all done bad things. Those friends are the only ones i've got."

"That's not true." Kody frowned his eyebrows. "Robby-"

"-is a traitor." Kenny cut him off, anger in his eyes. "He went soft. He told me one thing then turned around and told me something different. Can't trust him, just like I can't trust you."

Kody had to nod in understandment. "I'm just saying that I get where you're at right now. And I don't mean in the middle of the store, even though you're in the middle of that too. The sooner you get out, the sooner it'll be easier."

He headed off before turning back. "Get out of Cobra Kai, I mean. Not the store."

Kenny gave a look of disbelief as Kody nodded. "Okay."

He walked away after that.

With Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang combined as one again, the boys stretched in the backyard together as Kody kept trying to trust fell onto Demetri. "Demetri, how can you not catch me as i'm falling? I am suppose to trust you."

"Because you have done it five times." he argued with him in disbelief.

"So, you and San back in the dojo." Eli looked at Miguel as he pulled on his leg. "Game on, right? Friends again?"

"Yeah, game on for karate." Miguel shook his head, catching Kody with a huff when he trust fell on him next.

"Come on. Just talk to her." Eli suggested, catching Kody when he did it to him.

"You know what they say." Demetri put his arm around Miguel. "You put a box of matches near some fireworks, soon enough...."

Kody stared at him with a nod. "Soon enough what?"

The boys all looked at him. "Explosion, Kody."

He eyed Demetri oddly. "You want Migeul to shoot up Sam?"

"Shhh." Eli gave him a look as a couple eyes turned their way. "You can't just say that, Kody."

"Tell Demetri that, he said it first." he held his hands up in surrender.

"I did not." the pale boy argued.

"Something tells me it's about to be the Fourth of July." Demetri cringed as they all turned to see Robby walking in.

"Can't believe that piece of shits on our team." Eli rolled his eyes in pure annoyance and anger.

"All right. Relax, okay?" Miguel encouraged. "He wants exactly what we want. Gonna be okay."

Kody put an arm around Eli with a cheeky grin. "Well, Robby can't have my boyfriend. He'll have to get his own."

Demetri looked in confusion. "Where did that come from?"

"He wants what we want." Kody shrugged a he looked at the pair. "I already know you two want him."

"What!" Migeul laughed. "No. Nope. You have it all wrong."

"Yeah, where did that come from?" Demetri gapped as Eli tried his hardest not to laugh.

"I have ears." Kody pointed at his eyes. "They see it all."

Chozen whistled loudly to get everyone's attention, yelling at them in Japanese but they figured it meant to line up.

"So, where are my Dad and Johnny?" Sam looked up and him curiosity.

"Not here." he said back. "Today, you train with me. Attention!"

They all stood up straighter. Speaking Japanese again, but no one understood. He exhaled with a disappointed look. "Bow."

They all did so. "Cobra Kai gaining ground. We come prepare. Come."

"This is gonna be badass. Check out that throwing knife." Assface whispered to Chris ad they all gapped at Chozens choice of weapons.

"Now, we learn about Yanbaru Kuina." Chozen said in return as Kody mouthed it slowly so it would sink into his head.

"What is that? Like, some top-secret karate move?" Chris grinned due to extreme impression. "Like a throat rip?"

"I saw one of those on the cooking channel." Kody whispered to Eli as he nodded to the knife next to the hourglass.

"No. It is bird." Chozen corrected him. "In English called Okinawa rail. Endangered. Cannot fly."

"Clipped wings!" Kody yelled.

"Clipped wings." Chozen pointed to him.

"Hence, endangered." Demetri pursed his lips.

Chozen pulled out a dozen eggs and removed the cloth from them. Miguel was the first to speak about them. "So these are the rail eggs?"

"Of the wingless bird?" Kody gapped. "How's he gonna teach them how to fly with no wings?"

"She. Only she lays eggs." Demetri corrected.

"No. Trader Joe. 3.29." Chosen corrected Kody and Miguel. "Take egg."

"Poor Daddy bird." Kody took two eggs and handed one to Eli. "Guess I gotta be its Mom now."

"Fantastic Mom you are." Eli confirmed for him.

"Milf." Kody nodded his head.

"So, what do we do with them?" Sam questioned as she got an egg for Robby and Anthony as well.

"Yanbaru Kuina must protect egg." Chozen went on as an explanation. "From Kume Shima habu. Poison snake."

Kody gasped. "Where?"

"Me." Chozen pointed to himself. "Poison snake."

"You are poison snake?" Kody gapped.

"Yes." Chozen hummed. "Protect egg like Yanbaru Kuina. You must do same."

He turned the hourglass upside down. "Begin your preparation."

"What are we protecting them from?" Robby gave a questionable look.

"The poison snake." Kody whispered to him with a scared look. "He is a hybrid. Half Chozen, half snake."

"Green boy right." Chosen pointed to Kody, who was in a green hoodie. He waved his set of weapons around with a yell. "Go! Go!"

Kody screamed at the top of his lungs and took off running. Eli tossed his hands up. "Where's he going?"

"He is protecting egg! He is smart!" Chozen agreed.

"First time i've ever heard that." Demetri gapped as they all spread out quickly to protect their eggs at their own rate with a different amount of care.

Kody was hidden for a good ten minutes until Chozen found him, giving him a look. "I've found you, Yanbaru Kuina."

Kodys eyes widened as he put his egg into his mouth, holding it there. Chozen sighed as he lowered his weapon, pushing Kodys jaw up as the cracking of the egg echoed in his mouth. He cringed as Chozen nodded. "Good work, smart one. You will succeed most."

Kody smiled, yoke and shell shining through before he went to join the others. He was shocked to see how many were already there. "I lasted longer then Demetri? I lasted longer then Demetri!"

"Your teeth!" Anthony's eyes widened, giving him his water bottle.

"Ah, thank you, small one." Kody drank and spit, and drank and spit before giving Anthony the bottle back. "You are a sweet one."

He joined Eli as he moved over to make room. "You ate your egg?"

"I was trying to protect him in my mouth." he exhaled with a shake of his head. "Guess i'm like a geinea pig. You know, they eat their babies."

"I did not know that." he shook his head and rubbed the back of his neck.

"How'd he take you out?" Robby asked Eli curiously.

"Shut up. Don't talk to me." he glared back at him.

"Dude, if this is about the Mohawk, i'm sorry." Robby exhaled, clearly trying to break the clear hatred between them. "But if anybody knows how Cobra Kai can turn you into an asshole, it's you."

"Oh." Kodys jaw fell, not expected that one.

"So i'm an asshole?" Eli scoffed.

"Yeah, well, let's see." Robby pretended to think. "Uh, you attacked me and Sam at the mall. You chose the dojo over your own boyfriend. You-you broke Demetris arm. You trashed this entire dojo."

"Guys! Enough! Enough! All right?" Demetri cut in as Kody looked up at the standing trio. "You're both ex-asshoels now. Great. Can we focus on the issue at hand?"

Kody looked at his palms. "I think my hands are great."

"There is a madman out there using weapons on us." Demetri pointed to the last place he'd seen Chozen.

"What!" Kody shouted in fear. "When did he get here?"

"Chozen." Eli shook his head. "Demetri, God! What did we say about words that are overly dramatic!"

"It's the truth!" he defended himself.

"Who's even left?" Chris questioned.

"Sam and Miguel." Kody looked at Robby. "How'd you know he picked the dojo over me?"

"Do we have to talk about this?" Eli asked as Kody leaned his head against his leg.

"Alaska told me when I was living with her." he explained, shaking his head. "Shouldn't have brought that up. It's not my buisness."

Kody gave him a little half smile with a nod of his head, putting Eli's hand ontop of his head.

It didn't take long for a sulking Miguel and Sam to join with egg yoke on them. Chozen followed as he crouched down. "You are not good Yanbaru Kuina."

He stood up and looked at the teens. "Snakes will take you down one by one. I tried to tell you what you must do. But you do not listen. You must learn to adapt. Or soon, you will be extinct. Take new eggs. Try again."

Sam brought the cartoon to the boys as they each took one. Demetri just couldn't keep his mouth shut though. "Sensei Toguchi's real cryptic, like Mr.LaRusso, but aggressive like Sensei Lawrence."

"It's like the hardest part of both styles." Christ agreed with his words.

"Sensei Lawrence would be throwing these eggs at our faces." Kody confirmed as he held his new baby. "I promise not to eat you this time, son. Or daughter. I'm open for daughters too."

"Can't wait to get our asses kicked again." Mitch clutched the egg in his palm as they all began to spread out.

"Uh. No. No. No." Anthony stumbled over his words to encourage them back. "G-guys wait."

"Aw. Look at him growing up so fast." Kody gushed to Eli. "LaPusso turned LaOldmanAnthonySmallOne."

"That's some name." the Moskowitz boy turned to give him a tight lipped smile.

"All right, he said that, uh, the snakes will take us down one by one." Anthony explained with a nod. "Right? It-It-Just like he took us down one by one, but...but what if we weren't a bunch of ones? Like, what if we were..."

"Together." Sam finished for him.

"Yeah, exactly." he agreed, glad she'd found the words.

"I'm not really cool with merging bodies." Kody winced at the thought. "Maybe another time."

"No, no. Like a group. Like a group hug, but with no hug." Anthony explained better so Kody could understand. "Like, um, a raiding party in Dungeon Lords."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah!" Demetri cheered, Anthony now speaking his language rather then Kodys. "I mean, even if you're a level 85, you can't mount an attack on the grand realm alone."

"Exactly. He needed a team!" Eli finally caught on with a grin. "Everyone has a special role."

"The only way we win is if we work together. As one." the youngest LaRusso looked to each of the boys, plus girl.

Within five minutes, they all put their eggs in a bucket hat and circled it like a field. Kody smiled, arms linked with Eli's and Sams. "I love this group hug so much."

"So, we're sure we want to put all our eggs in one basket?" Demetri started to become skeptical of the plan. "You're specifically not supposed to do that."

"This is gonna work." Anthony spoke, more so to keep himself calm.

Chozens loud whistle echoed as Assface began to panic. "Oh no, oh no. Oh god!"

"Get it together, penis breath." Eli scoffed as he locked his arm with Kodys harder.

"Has anyone seen him yet?" Sam looked around.

"Oh shit." Miguel spoke after a moment as Chozen yelled and changed their way with his bo. "Ready!"

Eli caught the bo first, shoving it away as Robby cut in and kicked it away. Kody caught Eli as Chozen swung him with the end. Demetri kicked Chozen in the leg, giving Kody time to shove the bo away.

"Kody, get the bo!" Migeul called as he latched onto it, Demetri and the others doing the same as Chozen ducked under it, sliding across the deck. Sam grunted as she kicked his way, having her blocked before she tried to swing at him. Miguel went to help her, kicking until Sam caught his arm but was shoved away. Robby and Eli shared a look before kicking him on sync.

"Our turn?" Kody yelled slightly as he looked to Demetri.

"Our turn!" he confirmed, ducking under Chozen leg and blocking his leg. Kody got behind him so he'd trip slightly as Demetri pulled him to his feet, letting Kody kick him in the chest before they retreated back with the group, guarding Anthony and the hat of eggs.

Chozen stared as he went to charge again, but they all stayed on sync to keep him guarded. He stood up straight. "Snake, concede."

"Anthony!" Kody cheered for him.

"Dude, it worked!" Eli lifted him in a hug as Kody kissed him on the forehead.

"This is what we have that Cobra Kai does not." Chozen confirmed, catching his breath. "Their movement mile wide, but only inch deep. But our movement, inch wide, but mile deep. Now that you have learned to work together, I will teach you how to master your defense."

even though i haven't necessarily forgiven
anthony for how he was
to kenny in season four,
i was actually really proud
of him in this scene. i do think
that he has a good side to him
and i'm not a huge fan of how
cobra kai goes about write
their characters with not much
meaning behind them, but i am
convinced that anthony acting
out like an asshole, even though
it's not an excuse at all, had to
do with daniel and amanda's
poor parenting toward him. idk i'm kinda glad they covered that sort of storyline bc i don't think a lot of parents realize how they parent can be affecting their kids and making them act out in ways they genuinely aren't truly like. i hope, if they make a s6 but idk if they will, that anthony and kenny have well developed healing times together like robby and miguel had (even though that was pretty rushed too)
