Espresso Patronum!
The boy lifted his head as Tegwen was crouched over him, shielding his body with her own as some other parts fell around. Tears escaped from the corners of her eyes as she took the hits unable to move. However, she wasn't only upset from the physical pain brought upon her body, but at the sight of her wand snapped in half as the refrigerator had destroyed it when it came crashing down. It was just another thing to add to her problems as they were still in danger and not in the greatest condition to go far.
However, her hands tightened into fists as she forced herself up. There had to be a reason as to why she continued to dodge death's grip and she wasn't about to give up. Standing up, she lifted the boy to his feet to get him to safety and back to his family. He held onto her tightly as she staggered towards the hallway to get out of the building.
The building groaned as it was getting ready to collapse. Tegwen was cursing herself for not being fast enough to grab her wand. The wand had been with her since she was eleven years old before she started at Hogwarts. She felt almost naked without it but she knew there was no sense in dwelling on it.
There was an opening allowing them to escape and be greeted by the cold, fresh air that seemed to wake the boy up a bit more. But she was not counting on the street being abandoned as they stood outside. The street had been evacuated as people were anticipating the building going down. She didn't see the boy's family anywhere or anyone to help them.
Pushing her body far past its limits was catching up with her as she nearly fell with the child in her arms. The boy's fingers clutched the front of her coat hoping that she wouldn't drop him.
"It's alright," she said," I got you."
"Are you okay,Miss?" The boy asked her.
"Oh, I'm great. I just...I just need some...coffee," Tegwen told him.
"Coffee?"
"Yes, lots and lots of coffee. And a really long holiday."
"Your voice sounds funny," he told her. " I like it a lot."
Tegwen smiled as she looked down at the child as he grinned up at her. He looked incredibly tired but she was glad to see a smile on his little face.
"Can you sing the song again?" He asked with a yawn.
She had to fight back her own yawn before she nodded her head and began to hum.
"Do you know the words?" He interrupted her, bringing her to chuckle. " What's so funny?"
"Nothing, you just sound like someone I know," she said.
"Oh," the boy said. "Hey Miss, what's your name?"
"Tegwen."
She listened as the boy struggled to repeat it in a stammer.
"Or you can call me Twiggy," she said making it easier on him. The boy giggled.
"I like Twiggy! Miss Twiggy, I think I had a dream about you."
She glanced down at the boy. " I'm sorry?"
"I saw you in my dreams! I told my momma about it. There was this big monster with a big horn! A big, big, big horn! Momma was scared and my brothers and sisters but I wasn't."
" You weren't?" She raised a brow at him. " Not even just a little?"
"No...well..maybe a little bit then you told me that I shouldn't be. So I wasn't! Are you sure I don't know you, Miss Twiggy?"
"Well, you do now. But now I need to know your name. It's only fair since you know mine."
"My name is Paul. I was named after my pops, but...he died in the war along with my momma's brother."
Tegwen pressed her lips together as she looked forward, unsure of what to say besides sorry. But she didn't need to say anything as the boy continued talking.
"Are we going to find my momma, Miss Twiggy?"
"Of course we are."
Even though she only hummed the song, it seemed to settle the boy down throughout all the chaos that surrounded them. He somehow managed to fall asleep in her arms as she walked the streets, trying to find any source of help, muggle or magic. She only rounded a corner when she was suddenly she came face to face with an Auror that had his wand drawn right at her and the boy.
"Stop!" She said holding onto Paul as he slept on, completely unaware of what was taking place around him. "Please, lower your wand."
"Ms. Gittins an order for your arrest has been-"
"I know," Tegwen told the man. "And you can arrest me afterward, but right now I need to get this boy back to his family. His family was evacuated from the building because the Obscurus damn near destroyed it."
"He's a No-Maj!" The man said.
"No, he's a child!" She snapped. "So lower your wand."
The man seemed hesitant but as the child remained asleep in Tegwen's arm, he let out an irritated huff before lowering his wand.
"Do you know where the family is?"
"No," Tegwen said. "I went into the building because they thought he was dead, but he was trapped. We barely made it out before the building collapsed on itself."
"Where's your wand?" The Auror asked looking at her as if she were stupid not to use magic to her advantage.
She gave him a stern look. "I lost it in the building, it was shattered by a refrigerator, so it's no use to me right now. If I had a wand on me, do you honestly think I would be walking around the streets in this condition?!"
The Auror took a step back from the woman's temp as he felt the wave of irritation wash over him.
"Alright, let's get the No-Maj back to his family and then I'm taking you in. There's a group of them gathered a few blocks from here. His family is probably there too."
"Thank you," she said softly.
Tegwen had no other option but to surrender to the Auror as he grabbed her arm to apparate to where the muggles were. At least, he had stayed true to his word instead of tricking her like she thought he would.
They arrived a short distance away and walked the rest to approach the people, immediately, Tegwen spotted the mother among her other children, still crying up a storm believing she had lost her son. But she spotted Tegwen when she turned her head and let out a scream as her eyes settled on her son's body. Due to the fact that he was sleep, Paul looked dead, bringing his mother to breakdown.
"Wait, wait, wait!" Tegwen told the woman. "He's alive, he's just asleep. He needs medical attention, but he's alright."
She set Paul down as his mother ran over to lift him up into her arms, causing Paul to stir from his slumber.
"Momma," Paul said as he gained consciousness.
"Paulie!" His mother screeched, squeezing the boy tightly.
"Momma, remember the lady I told you about from my dreams? It's Miss Twiggy!" He said.
The woman looked over to where her son was smiling at Tegwen and gave a nod of her head. "Thank you so much!"
"You're welcome," Tegwen told her before she felt the Auror grip her arm tightly, just in case she decided to run. However, Tegwen was in no condition to run, she didn't even have the strength to pull her arm away from the man's grasp.
"Alright, enough of this, let's go, you've made a big enough mess as it is!" The Auror told her gruffly pulling her along down the street to apparate.
Unsure if he was going to bring her back to a holding cell or straight to the Death Cell, Tegwen wiped at her face in exhaustion as he pulled her along. She thought about telling him that her actions were innocent and she really hadn't done anything wrong, but the man didn't seem to be in a listening or understanding mood. She could tell just by the way he dragged her along.
"You one of them Grindelwald followers? Hmm? Are you a follower?" The Auror questioned.
"Are you an idiot?" She countered hotly.
"No!"
"Well, there's your answer."
"Glad to think you're so funny, but let me tell you something, sweetheart-" The man's voice trailed off and suddenly, Tegwen was jerked to the side as he was dragged away from her. She fell to the pavement, hearing the man's shouts before she looked up.
Her eyes widened in astonishment.
"Oh my Merlin," she whispered under her breath. "Freud?"
Before her clinging to the side of a building was Freudrick, her little house plant that was not so little again. The plant had taken over the side of the building and had the Auror strung up by his ankles, shaking him about, similar to how Newt had shaken the niffler. The Auror's pockets were emptied and the man dropped his wand as he dangled in the air.
"Freudrick!" She called out to the plant as she pushed herself up and ran over. The head of the plant was blooming flower, that looked like the fiery mane of a lion. The plant was still looking in her direction, and Tegwen realized that her little plant, was not just a plant. Similar to the Horklump, it had the appearance of a plant, but it was in fact a creature, especially as it opened it's mouth, revealing the sharp teeth.
"Alright, let's take it easy, Freudrick, let's just put the man down, shall we?"
Freudrick tossed the wizard aside, slamming the man against the wall and knocking him unconscious. The woman flinched before turning to the creature.
"I probably should have added gently...put him down gently."
Freudrick lifted up the man again, who's limp body just dangled before he was set back down on the ground gently.
"That was better," she praised Freudrick," but it didn't really help the situation at this point but...what are you doing out here? You got hungry again, didn't you? I should have known, you're from Giant Country territory, of course, you would have a large appetite."
She saw a cat walking down an alleyway and Freudrick saw it too as it reached one of the vines out to snatch it.
"No! No! No!" She said in a scolding tone, bringing the vine to freeze. "We don't eat the cats. At least, not in front of me. Eat the rats! No good comes from them anyways, and besides the city is infested with them. Eat the rats and...and..stay put! I need to find the others and then I'll come back for you."
She ran forward and grabbed the Auror's wand, she could hear the man let out several groans.
"Um...I'm just going to...uh...take this. Thanks!"
Eyeing the wand that didn't belong to her, Tegwen prayed that it would work just for the time being.
She went to leave before turning back to Freudrick. "And be nice to the man, he was only doing his job."
Tegwen wasn't sure to begin but with the shield up, she knew she wasn't going to get in easily, and certainly not above ground. As she came upon a subway entrance, she raced down the steps and ran through the tunnels in the direction of the chaos.
"Just pretend that you've had twenty-six cups of coffee today, Tegwen," she told herself as her body was trying to slow her down to conserve energy. "No, you've actually had thirty, you're feeling great! Everything is just wonderful and your body isn't screaming at all. You are in prime condition to face whatever is awaiting you."
Listening to her voice echo in the tunnel, she realized how dumb she sounded and closed her mouth while shaking her head. Although, shaking her head wasn't a good idea as she became dizzy.
To keep herself awake and focused she hummed obnoxiously loud when she suddenly felt the impact of a large explosion in the distance. The tunnel shook causing some small rock to dislodge along with some dust. She covered her arms over her head to avoid being hit before it settled and grew quiet again.
"Credence..." Tegwen whispered. "What have they done to you?"
