Chapter 16: Meeting ICT. Again.
The next morning came with the sun streaming through the hotel room window, casting a warm glow on Hira as she slept peacefully.
Suddenly, her iPhone rang loudly, jolting her from her sleep. Groggily, she reached for her phone, barely opening her eyes.
"Hello?" she mumbled, her voice thick with sleep. "Who is calling so early? Can't you let a person sleep?"
She muttered a few Gujarati curses under her breath, not realizing who was on the other end of the line.
"Good morning to you too," came Shubman's amused voice, causing her to sit up straight in bed, her eyes wide open.
"Shubman!" she exclaimed, suddenly fully awake. "Oh my God, I'm so sorry. I didn't realize it was you."
He chuckled, the sound warm and teasing.
"No problem, Hira. I didn't know you had such a colorful vocabulary in the morning."
She could practically hear the grin in his voice, and her cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
"I didn't mean to curse at you. I thought it was some random person."
"It's okay," he replied, clearly enjoying her flustered state.
"I just wanted to wish you a good morning and see if you're up for breakfast. Or should I let you go back to sleep?"
Hira glanced at the clock and sighed. "No, I'm awake now. Thanks to you," she said with a playful tone.
"Breakfast sounds good."
"Great," He said, sounding pleased. "I'll meet you in the hotel restaurant in about thirty minutes?"
"Sounds perfect," she agreed, feeling a flutter of excitement. "I'll see you then."
"See you soon, Hira," he said before hanging up.
She quickly jumped out of bed, eager to meet Shubman for breakfast.
In her rush to get ready, she hurriedly put on a simple yet elegant dress, brushing her hair and applying a touch of makeup.
As she moved around the room, her mind was filled with thoughts of their previous night together and the prospect of spending more time with him.
However, in her haste, she tripped over her suitcase that was left in the middle of the room.
She tumbled forward, landing awkwardly on her right ankle.
"Ow!" she exclaimed, wincing in pain as she tried to stand up.
She gingerly put weight on her injured ankle, only to feel a sharp sting.
Sitting back down on the edge of the bed, she examined her ankle, which was already starting to swell.
"Oh no, not today," she muttered to herself, frustrated by her clumsiness.
She knew she needed to meet Shubman, but walking on her ankle seemed impossible.
She carefully reached for her phone and sent him a quick text.
Shub💜
Hey, Shubman.
I'm so sorry, but I had
a little accident and hurt
my ankle. Can you come
to my room instead?
Within moments, her phone buzzed with a reply.
Oh no! Are you okay?
I'm on my way.
True to his word, Shubman arrived at her room in record time.
He knocked gently before entering, his face full of concern. "Hira, what happened?" he asked, kneeling beside her.
"I was in a rush to get ready and tripped over my suitcase," she admitted sheepishly. "I think I twisted my ankle."
He gently took her ankle in his hands, examining it with care.
"It looks swollen. You need to rest it and maybe put some ice on it."
Hira nodded, feeling a bit embarrassed by the situation.
"I'm really sorry, Shubman. I wanted to have breakfast with you, but now I've ruined it."
He shook his head, giving her a reassuring smile.
"You haven't ruined anything. We'll just have breakfast here. I'll call room service and get us something nice. Just relax."
Touched by his kindness, she smiled back. "Thanks Shubman. I really appreciate it."
Shubman stood up and made a quick call to room service, ordering a delicious breakfast for them both.
As they waited, he grabbed a small towel, soaked it in cold water, and gently wrapped it around her ankle.
"Thank you," she said, her voice soft. "You're really sweet."
He shrugged, a playful glint in his eye. "What can I say? I like taking care of you."
They both laughed, and despite the unexpected twist to their morning, they found themselves enjoying the moment even more.
After their breakfast, Shubman looked at Hira with a determined expression.
"I think we should go see the team physiotherapist about your ankle," he suggested.
She shook her head, a smile playing on her lips. "No, really, it's not that bad. I can just rest it."
But Shubman was having none of it. "I'm not taking no for an answer." With that, he scooped her up in his arms, making her giggle and squirm.
"Shubman, put me down!" she laughed, trying to wriggle free.
He grinned down at her. "Not a chance."
As they made their way out of her room, Shubman tickled her sides, causing her laughter to echo down the corridor. Her laugh was infectious, and soon Shubman was chuckling along with her.
They reached the corridor reserved only for the Indian cricket team. Both were still talking loudly and laughing, oblivious to their surroundings. Suddenly, Hira saw a group of people ahead and stopped giggling, her eyes widening in surprise. She nudged Shubman, who was still laughing.
"Shubman, look," she whispered urgently.
Standing before them was the entire Indian cricket team, along with their wives and girlfriends. The players' jaws dropped in surprise, and a few of them smirked teasingly.
Ishan was the first to speak, a wide grin on his face. "Well, well, what do we have here? Shubman playing the knight in shining armor?"
Hardik laughed, shaking his head. "And here I thought you were just a cricketer, not a hero in a romance movie."
Shreyas raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on his lips. "So, what's the story here, you two?"
Hira blushed deeply, trying to hide her face in Shubman's chest. Shubman, however, was unfazed. He adjusted Hira in his arms and looked at his teammates. "Hira twisted her ankle, and I'm taking her to the physiotherapist," he explained, his tone serious but with a playful twinkle in his eyes.
Anushka, stepped forward with a knowing smile. "Looks like she's in good hands. Quite literally."
Ritika chuckled softly. "Just be gentle with her, Shubman. We don't want any more injuries."
Shubman nodded, smiling warmly at the ladies. "Don't worry, I'll take good care of her."
As they continued down the corridor, the team's teasing comments and laughter followed them. KL called out, "Don't have too much fun, you two!"
Hira buried her face in Shubman's shoulder, her cheeks burning with embarrassment and amusement. "I can't believe they saw us like this," she muttered.
Shubman just laughed, his voice a comforting rumble against her ear. "Don't worry about it. They're just having fun. Besides, we have nothing to hide."
They finally reached the physiotherapist's room. Shubman gently set Hira down on a chair, giving her an encouraging smile. "Let's get that ankle checked out."
Hira nodded, grateful for his support. Despite the teasing and the unexpected attention, she felt safe and cared for with Shubman by her side.

Dr Anusha Banerjee, ICT Head physiotherapist.
Hira decided to get her ankle checked out by the hotel doctor, Dr. Anusha. She was slightly nervous but hoped that it wasn't too serious. Shubman helped her down to the hotel's medical office, his arm securely around her to support her.
"Dr. Anusha will take good care of you," Shubman reassured her as they entered the office.
Dr. Anusha greeted them with a warm smile. "Hello, Hira. Let's take a look at that ankle, shall we?" She motioned for Hira to sit on the bed.
As Hira sat down, she winced slightly, feeling the lingering pain. "I was rushing this morning and tripped over my suitcase. It really hurts."
Dr. Anusha gently examined her ankle, her fingers pressing lightly to assess the injury. "It's a bit swollen, but I don't think it's anything too serious. Let's try something."
She nodded, trying to stay calm. Dr. Anusha began massaging the swollen area, her touch firm yet soothing. Suddenly, without warning, she grabbed Hira's ankle and twisted it sharply.
"FUCK!" Hira screamed, the unexpected pain shooting through her leg. Her eyes filled with tears as she stared at Dr. Anusha in shock.
But within seconds, the pain disappeared completely. Hira blinked, astonished. "Wait...the pain...it's gone!"
Dr. Anusha smiled, giving her a reassuring pat. "Sometimes, a quick adjustment can set things right. Your ankle was slightly out of alignment. I just put it back in place."
Shubman, who had been standing just next to Hira, let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding. "Are you sure she's okay now?"
Dr. Anusha nodded confidently. "Yes, she should be fine. Just take it easy for the rest of the day. Avoid putting too much strain on it."
Hira looked at Shubman, her eyes wide with surprise. "I can't believe it. It really doesn't hurt anymore."
He smiled back at her, relieved. "That's great news. Thank you, Dr. Anusha."
"You're welcome. Just be careful next time," Dr. Anusha said with a wink.
As they left the room, Hira tested her newly healed ankle, taking a few cautious steps. "Wow, it really feels better. I can't believe it."
Shubman chuckled, still keeping a supportive arm around her. "Looks like you're back on your feet again."
Hira smiled, feeling grateful and a bit embarrassed by her earlier panic. "Thank you for being here with me, Shubman. I really appreciate it."
"Of course, Hira. I'm just glad you're okay." He paused, looking at her with a playful glint in his eye. "So, how about we try meeting my friends again? This time, with you walking on your feet?"
Hira laughed, nodding enthusiastically. "Absolutely. Let's go."
Hira, with Shubman's support, carefully walked to the pool area of the hotel. As they approached, they could hear the laughter and chatter of the Indian cricket team and their families. The area was filled with children playing in the pool, couples lounging on deck chairs, and friends catching up over drinks.
As Hira and Shubman entered, the entire group noticed them and started whistling and teasing. "Look who's here! The lovebirds!" yelled Ishan, grinning widely.
Hardik, who was lounging nearby with his Natasa and t Agastya, called out, "About time you two showed up! We've been waiting to see you together officially."
Shubman, with a proud smile, took Hira's hand and led her to the center of the group. "Everyone, I want to introduce you to Hira," he said, his voice clear and confident. "She's my girlfriend and soon-to-be fiancée."
The announcement took everyone by surprise. Virat raised an eyebrow, glancing at Anushka, who looked equally intrigued. "Well, that's some news," Virat said. "Congratulations, you two!"
Hira nodded in agreement, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. She looked at Shubman for support, and he gave her a reassuring squeeze. "Thank you, everyone," Hira began. "Shubman and I were introduced by our parents, and we've decided to get married. But we want to date for a few months to get to know each other better before we take the next step."
Rohit , sitting with Ritika, chuckled. "So, it's an arranged-love marriage? That's interesting."
Anushka smiled warmly at Hira. "That's lovely, Hira. It's important to understand each other before making such a big commitment. I'm happy for both of you."
Natasa chimed in, "We could see the chemistry between you two last night. It's great that you're making this decision together."
Hira felt a wave of relief wash over her as she saw the acceptance in everyone's eyes. She smiled and continued, "Yes, it's been a whirlwind, but we feel this is the right path for us. We're excited to explore our relationship and see where it takes us."
Jadeja laughed, "Well, Shubman, you've got a good one. Take care of her, alright?"
Shubman grinned, "I will, Jaddu bhai. I'm lucky to have her."
The group settled back into their relaxed state, with conversations flowing more easily now. Hira felt at ease, surrounded by supportive friends and knowing that she and Shubman were on this journey together.
As they found a spot by the pool, Shubman leaned in and whispered to Hira, "You did great. I'm so proud of you."
She blushed and whispered back, "I couldn't have done it without you."
The wags quickly surrounded Hira, their curiosity piqued. They bombarded her with questions about her life, culture, and background, all talking excitedly over one another.
"Arre, tell us more about your family!" Ritika asked eagerly.
"What's it like being a pilot?" Natasa inquired, her eyes wide with interest.
"Do you get scared flying those big planes?" Athiya chimed in.
"Where do you find time for everything?" Riva, added.
Hira laughed, trying to keep up with the barrage of questions. "Okay, okay, one at a time!" she said, holding up her hands. "I'll answer everything, promise."
Anushka, noticing Hira's overwhelmed expression, stepped in to calm everyone down. "Alright, ladies, let's give Hira some breathing room. Ek-ek karke sawaal poochho, varna sab confuse ho jaayenge," she said, her authoritative yet gentle voice bringing order to the chaos.
"Thank you, Anu didi," Hira said with a grateful smile. "Okay, let's start with my family. I come from Ahmedabad. My dad is a businessman, and my mom is a homemaker. I am a single child."
"Interesting," Ritika nodded. "And being a pilot, that's so cool! How did you decide to become one?"
Hira smiled, "Well, I always loved the idea of flying. The freedom, the excitement. It just felt right. Plus, it's a family thing. My uncle was a pilot, and I grew up hearing his stories."
Trisha leaned in, "So, are you ever scared? Flying those big planes must be nerve-wracking!"
Hira shook her head. "Not really. You get used to it. The training is very thorough. It's more about responsibility and making sure everyone's safe."
"Wow, that's amazing," Ritika said, clearly impressed. "But how do you manage your schedule? It must be hectic!"
Hira laughed, "Oh, it's all about balance. I plan my flights and personal life carefully. And, of course, having supportive friends and family helps a lot."
Pankhuri grinned, "And how did you meet Shubman? What's the story there?"
Hira blushed slightly, "We met at an airport first. We actually bumped into each other. Then became friends and stayed in touch. And then We were introduced by our parents, actually. It started off as an friendship and later an arranged setup, but we both felt an instant connection. So, we decided to take it slow and get to know each other."
Anushka smiled warmly, "That's lovely. It's important to take things at your own pace. And it's clear you both have a strong connection."
Sanjana teased, "So, Shubman ko kaise handle karti ho? He's quite the superstar."
Hira giggled, "He's actually really sweet and down-to-earth. It's easy to be with him."
Natasa laughed, "Well, you both look great together. We're all so happy for you!"
As the conversation continued, the wives shared stories and laughs, making Hira feel more and more comfortable. The atmosphere was filled with warmth and camaraderie, and Hira realized she had found not just a partner in Shubman but also a new extended family in the Indian cricket team.
Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team men were having a field day teasing Shubman about Hira. As he tried to maintain his composure, his cheeks were visibly turning redder with each comment.
"Arre, Shubman, kaise fasaya is ladki ko? Hume bhi kuch tips de de," Shreyas teased, nudging Shubman playfully.
Hardik laughed, "Bhai, tum toh silent killer nikle. Sabko chupa ke rakha. Batao na, what's your secret?"
Rohit joined in, "Gill, sach bata, kitne ghutne pe girna pada tha iske liye?"
Shubman shook his head, laughing despite his embarrassment. "Yaar, kuch secret nahi hai. We just connected, that's all."
Virat, always the big brother figure, put an arm around Shubman. "Beta, ab samajh aaya tu practice ke baad itna busy kyun rehta tha phone pe. Love story chal rahi thi."
Krunal couldn't resist, "Aur yeh bhi batao, pehli baar kab milaya apne mom-dad se? Tab bhi itna hi blush kar rahe the kya?"
Shubman, trying to hide his face, replied, "Arey yaar, We started off as friends first and out of nowhere we found each other being set up by our parents in an arranged marriage. It was a proper family introduction. Nothing dramatic. Bas, sab log mile aur baat hui."
Ishan piped up,with a dramatic expression keeping his hand on his chest "Haan, haan, humko pata hai kaise hoti hain yeh introductions. BTW you betrayed me Priyatme."
Shubman with a loud chuckle replied, wrapping an arm around Ishan's shoulder, "Arre how can I betray me Jaaneman? You know you will always be number one!"
Shami, with his usual calm demeanor, added, "But seriously, Shubman, she seems really nice. When's the big day?"
Shubman shrugged, still blushing. "We're taking things slow, getting to know each other better. No rush."
Jadeja grinned, "Bas, dekh lena. Wedding invitation hume sabse pehle chahiye. Varna gift nahi milega."
Hardik couldn't resist another jab, "Aur haan, bachelor party ki planning hum sab pe chhod do. You won't forget it."
Shubman finally managed to get a word in, "Bhai log, bas karo. You're making me blush more than I already am."
Bumrah, with a twinkle in his eye, said, "Shubman, just know we're all really happy for you. You both look great together."
Virat, back to his serious tone, added, "Just remember, relationship ke saath-saath cricket pe bhi focus rakhna. Balance is key."
Shubman nodded, appreciating the advice. "Thanks, guys. I really appreciate all your support."
As the teasing subsided, the camaraderie and bond between the players were evident. They were not just teammates but a family that celebrated each other's happiness and supported one another through every phase of life. Shubman felt lucky to have them by his side, knowing they would always have his back.
The ladies were in full swing, clicking pictures of each other and posing for group shots. Their laughter echoed through the pool area as they created memories together.
"Arre, Hira, come here! We need a picture with the newest member of our club," Anushka called out, pulling Hira into the group.
Natasa joined in, "Yes, yes! And make sure you get our good side, okay?"
Hira laughed, "Every side is your good side, Nats!!."
As they continued taking photos, their husbands couldn't resist joining the fun.
Virat called out, "Kya ho raha hai yahan? Itni saari photos kyu?"
Anushka replied, "We're just celebrating our new addition. Tum logon ko bhi photoshoot karna chahiye."
Virat teased, "Haan, lekin hum itne photogenic nahi hain na. Tum log sab kuch le leti ho."
Jasprit joined in, "Haan, aur yeh jo married life ke photos hain, unmein sachai zyada hoti hai. Wait till the honeymoon phase is over."
Everyone laughed, and Rohit added, "Shubman, sun lo yeh sab. Pehli baat toh yeh ki shaadi ke baad tumhare paas yeh sab masti karne ka time kam ho jayega."
Shubman grinned, "Thanks for the heads-up, Rohit bhai. I'll make sure to enjoy every moment now."
Jadeja said, "Hira, are you ready for this? These guys will scare you, but it's not that bad. Just a lot of fun and a bit of chaos."
Hira smiled, "I'm ready for it all. Bring on the chaos."
Sanjana chimed in, "Don't worry, Hira. We have our ways of handling them. Just make sure you keep them on their toes."
Natasa laughed, "Exactly. And don't forget, ladies, we need to plan Hira's bridal shower. It's going to be epic."
Anushka agreed, "Absolutely. And Hira, any special requests for your bridal shower?"
Hira, feeling overwhelmed with joy, replied, "Just being with all of you is special enough. But I'm open to surprises."
As the photoshoot continued, the husbands kept teasing and laughing along with their wives. Ishan joked, "Hira, get ready for Shubman's cooking experiments. I hope you like slightly burnt food."
Everyone burst out laughing, and Shubman defended himself, "Hey, I can cook well, okay? Don't listen to them, Hira."
Shreyas added, "Yeah, just make sure he doesn't try anything too fancy. Stick to the basics, Shubman."
Hardik, not missing a beat, said, "And remember, Hira, when he messes up, you can always call us for backup. We've all been through it."
As the morning went on, the group continued to enjoy each other's company, sharing stories and jokes. It was a moment of pure happiness and camaraderie, setting the tone for many more joyful gatherings to come.
