Sirius Black

Sirius was still not talking to Peter. Peter didn't understand why, but James and Remus had a little suspicion on what could trigger this response from Sirius. James decided to get an answer one night when he and Sirius were alone in their dormitory, Remus having rushed to the library, and Peter went to go sneak into the kitchens for a snack.

"Padfoot?" James asked. Sirius was sitting on his bed, whereas James was hanging up a new framed photograph of the Gryffindor quidditch team over his bed. Picture James was messing up his hair and kept dropping his broom.

"Mhm?" Sirius said. Sirius was very upset at Peter for knocking his chances with Leah White. Leah was obviously way more comfortable with Peter than she was ever with Sirius. That made sense, Sirius thought, seeing as he had  'joked' about her dead father.

"Why are you mad at Peter?"

Sirius turned around. He gritted his teeth. "It's a stupid reason."

"That makes it all the better to hear it."

Sirius sighed. "Fine. Did you see how chummy Leah and Peter were in Herbology earlier?"

James rolled his eyes. "Ok, that's really stupid. Why would Leah choose Peter over you? Peter's not exactly a dream guy."

Sirius shrugged. "Maybe she thinks he's nicer. And she hates my fabulous hair."

"Stop with the fabulous hair thing." James said, stifling a laugh. Sirius smiled. "Yeah, I guess so. Should I.." He stopped. "Apologize to Peter?"

"Yes." James answered. "You should."

Sirius stood up. "I'm going to the kitchens."

Sirius was walking through the halls of Hogwarts, trying to remember the way to the kitchens. James usually lead them, and Sirius never payed attention.

"Sirius? Sirius!" Came a soft voice. Sirius turned around, and saw Leah White walking towards him. Sirius's heart leapt and he put on a smile. "Hi, Leah."

"I came to say I forgive you." Leah said, getting to the point immediately. "Y'know, seeing as you apologized already."

"Oh, great!" Sirius said, ecstatic. "I mean-" He cleared his throat. "Brilliant."

Leah smiled at him. "So, where are you headed?"

Sirius told her the truth. Leah was the kind of person who could spot a lie from a mile away, and Sirius knew that. If he lied, then Leah might tell on him or something, and would get Peter in trouble too. And Sirius didn't really feel like lying, and there was the chance that maybe Leah even already knew about the kitchens.

"I'm heading to the kitchens." Sirius responded. "Great, lets go." Leah said, leading the way.

"What?" Sirius asked, confused. "You're coming?"

"Duh, I want some apples and peanut butter if I'm being honest." Leah said, then walked ahead. Sirius followed, as he didn't know how to get to the kitchens.

"You know how to get into the kitchens?" Sirius asked, amazed. "Lily showed me once." Leah said, looking back at Sirius. "You tickle the pear on the painting."

Sirius was even more impressed. He was also impressed with himself. This was the first conversation he was having with Leah where she wasn't deeply annoyed.

They headed down the stairs, and Leah looked left and right before heading down into the dungeons. Sirius tried to memorize the route down to the kitchens. "We're here." Leah said after a while of silence. They stopped in front of the fruit painting, and Leah reached out to tickle the pear.

The pear giggled, and the painting swung open. Leah stepped in first, with Sirius behind her. "So, what did you want?" Leah asked, as the house-elves swarmed around them.

"Hello Ms. White!" A small, squeaky house-elf said.

"Hello Tiny!" Leah said nicely. "Me and Sirius Black here," Sirius waved at Tiny, memories of his families house-elf Kreacher, who hated Sirius and loved Regulus. "Wanted a snack."

"Of course!" Tiny exclaimed. "Would you like a chocolate icing covered sugar cookie, like Mr. Pettigrew?"

Sirius's eyes scanned the room for Peter, and saw his tuft of hair over a couch. Leah started ordering for her and Sirius, while Sirius walked over to Peter.

"Hey, Wormy." Sirius said, sitting down next to Peter. Peter flinched and and almost dropped his sugar cookie.

"Oh-" Peter said, feeling uncomfortable. "Hi, Sirius." He took a bite of the cookie.

"I'm really sorry." Sirius said. Peter was taken aback. "For what?"

Sirius shifted. He didn't actually want to tell Peter, but he didn't see why not. He lowered his voice so Leah couldn't hear, and said, "I was jealous of how you were paired with Leah."

Peter suddenly started snickering. "What?" Sirius said, confused. "Is that not how you're supposed to apologize?"

"I thought that was the reason." Peter admitted. "But seriously, Padfoot, stop worrying so much. It's not like you're the most popular guy in school or anything."

"Shh!" Sirius said, glancing at Leah, who was now surrounded by a swarm of admiring house-elves. "Leah's not the girl who seems to care about that stuff."

"No, she's not." Peter said with a smile. "She's really quite nice."

"Yeah, I know."

"Sirius?" Peter said. Sirius looked at his friend. "Yeah?"

"If- if she rejects you, are you ever going to get over her?"

"Obviously." Sirius replied. He was about to say something else, but shut up when he saw Leah coming over to them, carrying a few platters of food.

"Oh hi Peter!" Leah said cheerfully, setting the plate down on the table next to them.

"Hi, Leah." Peter said.

Sirius eyes the platter Leah brought. There were crispy slices of green apples lined up carefully in a row, next to a little glass bowl filled to the rim with smooth peanut butter. Five sugar cookies were stacked on top of each other next to the peanut butter, and two glasses of frothy milk were balancing on the platter. Slightly hanging over the edge was a plate of cube shaped cheddar cheese blocks, with circular pepper crackers next to them.

"Sorry I didn't get you milk, Peter," Leah said apologetically. "I didn't realize you were here."

"It's alright." Peter waved this away. "I don't really like milk."

Leah looked at Sirius. "What about you?"

Sirius leaned down and took one sugar cookie and his glass of milk. While leaning down, his fabulous hair fell into his face, messing it up. Sirius let out a breath of concern, but the cookie and milk back down, quickly rearranged his hair, then took the food back up.

"You care a lot about your hair," Leah observed.

Sirius was about to make a witty retort before catching himself. He didn't want to offend her even more. "Yeah, I do."

Peter shoved the rest of his cookie into his mouth, chewed and swallowed before saying, "Well, I'll have to leave you guys here, I told Remus and James I would..." He looked around. "Er.....help with..prank ideas anyways gotta dash!" He said quickly, then ran out of the room, tripping over another prepping table.

"My is he clumsy." Leah said, watching Peter leave. "Tell me about it." Sirius muttered.

"So, are you a member of the Gryffindor quidditch team?" Leah asked, trying to make conversation. Unknown to Sirius, Leah knew that he was truly sorry, and was trying to become friends with the guy.

"Uh-yeah, you didn't know?" Sirius said, completely oblivious.

"I mean, seeing as I was gone for two year-"

"Oh, right, sorry! I am on the team." He said hastily. "One of the beaters."

Leah looked at the house elves, who were busying themselves with breakfast. "Cool, cool." She turned to Sirius. "Hey, can I ask you something?"

Sirius nodded eagerly. Then a little voice in his head said, "stop acting like James, you'll just get girls to hate you and ruin your reputation as Hogwarts biggest player."

She hesitated. "This is going to sound weird, but...did anyone notice me when I left?"

Sirius paused. What an odd question. But he decided to answer, truthfully. "I think we only payed attention to you when all that commotion happened. We don't really know what actually went down."

Leah frowned. "I thought so. Now everyone, especially boys, are acting like I suddenly won the Quidditch World Cup for England or something. Now I'm so popular, I hate it."

"Why are you asking me this?"

"I've asked Alice, Lily and Marlene already, but they merely said that everyone has loved me since the beginning. I wanted a truthful answer."

"So...you see me as a friend?"

Leah smiled and chuckled. "Yeah, I suppose so."

Sirius's eyes lit up, and his heart was having a dance party. "Well, like Peter said, it's getting late. Wanna go to the common room?"

"Sure, I'll transfigure the food into something." Leah took out her wand, and turned the platter of food into a notebook. She picked it up and carried with her out of the kitchens.

While they were walking back, Sirius was ecstatic. He didn't even care that he might not get Leah to like like him. He was just glad that she saw him as a friend.
