Leah White
"Hi, I'm Sirius."
Sirius Black extended his shaking hand, and Leah, who was also nervous to meet him, shook it. She quickly retracted her hand, wiped it on her robes for some reason, and looked at Professor Slughorn, who was standing in front of his desk, his wand at his side.
"Hello class! I hope you all had a wonderful summer break, but now it's time for potions!" He said, and Leah heard at least one person groan.
"We are going to be doing revision, as everyone in the class obviously passed their potions O.W.L."
Leah fidgeted. She hadn't even taken her O.W.Ls, but Professor Dumbledore did a small, private testing in his office to test Leah's abilities, and she had done pretty well, so she had been accepted into all the classes she had been taking before.
She wondered if the Marauders had all passed, because before, she remembered that James Potter, Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew weren't exactly the brightest bunch.
"So the potion we're going to revising is up here in this cauldron." Professor Slughorn pointed to the bubbling cauldron that was placed upon his desk. "Can anybody come up and guess?"
Lily's hand shot up, and Professor Slughorn chuckled. "Miss Evans, of course, of course...come on up."
Lily hopped out of her seat, and walked up to the front of the room, took one glance at the potion, and said, "Cure for Boils."
"Bravo, Miss Evans, exactly!" Professor Slughorn clapped. Lily smiled and walked back to her seat.
"So I want you and your partner to try and perfect the Cure for Boils potion, and maybe, just maybe, one of you will get a bottle of Felix Felicis." He winked.
Leah smiled. She remembered in her first three years of Hogwarts, Professor Slughorn always had a little bottle of the luck potion, Felix Felicis, on the first day of classes, and he would give it out as a prize to the person who made the best potion.
"Now where does he get all that potion from?" She heard Sirius Black mutter. Leah snorted.
As soon as Professor Slughorn said, "GO!" Leah raced out of her seat, leaving Sirius Black there, a shocked look on his face, as she went to get the ingredients at top speed.
Once she collected the necessary ingredients, she zoomed back to her table, laid all the ingredients down, and brought up her cauldron. Leah wasn't even paying attention to her partner, but obviously Sirius Black had other plans.
"I don't think we've been properly introduced." Sirius said pointedly.
Leah said vaguely, "Hi Sirius Black. I'm Leah White." And then she continued pouring water into the cauldron.
Though Sirius couldn't tell, the reason why Leah was giving these, 'I don't really care,' vibes, was because she was nervous around him. Perhaps even developing a liking for him?
Sirius grimaced. "So...what are you doing?"
Leah finished pouring water into the cauldron, and got started crushing the snake fangs. "I'm doing what you're supposed to be doing."
Sirius laughed, as if potions were a joke, and turned to that he was facing Leah, who's eyes were determinedly on crushing those fangs into a fine powder.
Sirius was starting to sweat, and for the second time ever, he was nervous.
"Isn't it a little unnecessary how you were removed from the Great Hall two years ago?" He babbled. "You could have stayed."
Leah's gaze grew stony, and now she was deeply offended. "My dad got murdered." She answered coldly. "That's a good reason to go."
"I mean, right- sorry, I just meant, like, aren't dads overrated or.." He paused at the look on Leah's usually smiling face, then took a moment to think about what he actually said.
Leah turned her chair away from him, and moved the ingredients so that he couldn't see them anymore.
Leah's insides were bubbling with anger at what she just heard. Had this idiotic Marauder just insulted her father, who's last act had been protecting his wife and kids? He had been heroic, and no, he was not overrated! Any feelings she might have had for Sirius Black had vanished, and she knew now what it felt like to be Lily, and to hate a boy so much.
Now with the anger pulsing through her veins, it was easy to crush the snake fangs rather quickly, and she added them to the mixture. She turned the heat up, and looked away from Sirius Black, at Lily and Alice, who were happily chatting while Lily was stirring the pot; to James and Marlene, who actually seemed to be getting along rather well, with the occasional annoyed sigh coming from Marlene. Peter Pettigrew and Remus Lupin seemed to be going ok; only Peter had spilled the boiling water they were supposed to be using all over his robes, and he was trying desperately to get it off, while Remus poured the next ingredient into the cauldron.
Then, she took a quick glance at Sirius Black, who finally seemed to realize what he said, and a frown was upon his handsome face.
She rolled her eyes and turned away, realizing that the potion was bubbling too much, and she turned down the heat. Sirius Black attempted what seemed like a feeble attempt to correct what he said, but then he fell silent.
Leah's anger had calmed down, but now she had developed a blooming hatred for Sirius Black.

"That stupid git." Marlene snarled when they were comfortably in their dormitory, each in his pjs, a blanket laying over their legs.
"How DARE he say those things about Mr. White?" Lily said, tears forming in her eyes. She had been especially fond of Leah's father, as he was one of the older half-bloods who had always been nice to her.
Leah felt her eyes to water, but she shook them away. Her father had passed more than two years before, and she had gotten over it already. But that didn't mean that once and while she expected an owl to come from her dad, asking if she needed any help for schoolwork, and how she was feeling.
Alice threw a bag of pickle and vinegar crisps to Leah, who immediately felt better. Those were her favourite.
"Want to spend an evening cursing those wretched Marauders?" Alice asked, grinning. Cursing the Marauders definitely felt like something Leah wanted to do.
"I'll go first!" Lily said excitedly, then said, "James Potter is an arrogant bully who doesn't know the meaning of stop, and I would rather go out and kill myself than to go on a two minute date with him."
They started laughing at the thought of Lily and James on a date, which Leah could imagine vividly.
James would probably be trying to impress her, all while asking Lily very personal questions. Lily would be rolling her eyes and dissing Potter, trying to make him back down, which he obviously wouldn't.
"I wanna see that." Marlene said, giggling while tying her long blonde hair in a ponytail.
"Can I pleaseee go next?" Alice pleaded.
"Yes, go!" Leah said, knowing Alice had the best roasts.
"Peter Pettigrew is a dumb idiot who doesn't know crap. He follows those other jerks around like they're kings, and can't make decisions for himself."
"ooooo!" Marlene said, her eyes wide. "I dare you to say that to his face."
Alice yawned and crossed her arms. "Well, I don't want detention, do I?"
"But imagine the look on his faceee!" Marlene whined. "It would be so totally worth it!!"
"Leah, go ahead and burn Sirius Black!!" Lily encouraged.
Leah wasn't usually like this, but all her rage and anger came out in two sentences.
"That Sirius Black is a darned playboy with no emotion and doesn't care how much he hurts peoples feelings. He thinks he's so awesome, but really, he's brainless and heartless."
Leah's anger was now gone, replaced with something new: confidence and hope.
That maybe, she could put her past behind her and start again.
