𝐓𝐇𝐄 orange leaves crunched under the boots that hit the ground with every step. The first couple of days in fall were here and Ava loved every bit of it. The warm tea, blankets and all the halloween movies that gave her a nostalgic feeling.
She was on her way to the town where she met with her friends, they go out almost every Friday after they come off work. Normally they would go to a pub, but a new club opened up and almost everyone they knew was going there.
Ava wore a tight black lace top that was a little see through and a short black shirt, her knee high boots on her feet to top off her outfit. Her brunette hair was in loose curls and rested on her shoulders.
One thing to know about Ava is that she is always late, except for work. She was used to it that her friends would text or call while she was still walking to their meeting place. Her friend's name Amelia kept popping up her screen.
"Am, I'm there in a minute okay?" Ava said apologetically while picking up her pace.
"You better hurry up! The line is getting bigger." Amelia complained over the phone.
"I'm here Am, don't worry." Ava hung up the phone and walked over to her friend group. They were already waiting in line. Ava went under the line and joined her friend.
"Took you long enough Hughes." Connor exclaimed when she finally joined them. She rolled her eyes at his comment.
"Is the line slow tonight?" She asked.
"No, you were just in time to come here." He explained.
And just like Connor said, they were already in the club. The loud music was drumming in Ava's ears, she couldn't hear her own thoughts anymore. Her eyes had to adjust to all the flashing lights, but came around fast. They gave their coats away and went into the actual room.
"I bought us a table in vip." Connor yelled over the loud music. "Miles is already waiting there." Connor was brought up in money and it showed in everything. He was wearing his Ralph Lauren polo in a club, who even does that?
We walked over to the vip section and already saw our friend Miles sitting there. "You couldn't even wait for me to arrive?" Ava joked while giving Miles a hug.
"You took too long and I was getting cold, and sober." He laughed. "I bought us a bottle of vodka already, so go ahead."
Everyone took a shot glass and filled it to the brim with vodka. Ava already knew this was gonna be a good night. They took their shot and sat down around the booth. The rest ordered their own drinks and started chatting with each other.
"It's indeed really busy here, didn't know it was so popular for a new club." Ava spoke up while looking down the dance floor.
"Some big businessman bought the club and promoted it around London." Elisa showed her a picture of the promotion on her phone.
"Well it has paid off."
After half an hour the bottle that was ordered was empty and so were their ordered drinks. Everyone was already tipsy or drunk, Miles couldn't even walk properly when they suggested to go down to the floor and dance.
Ava felt the alcohol severely in every limb of her body. She didn't feel the pain in her feet any more of her boots, or walked properly in them.
Some kind of house beat was heard loudly through the speakers around the club. Ava hated dancing but with alcohol in her system she would dance a whole marathon. It looked horrible, it was like she was younger and listening to one direction in her room as a 10 year old. She was careful not to spill her drink though.
After a while Ava finally heard a song she loved, it was a typical song that every girl would dance a bit slutty too. Diet Pepsi was new but almost every girl in the club knew it. Miles and Connor took that queue to get more drinks and let the girls dance. Elisa, Amelia, Evelyn and Ava all dancing to the remixed style of the song until it ended.
The boys came back with new drinks for everyone soon after. "I wanna go to the front to dance there, you can't see anything from here." Evelyn complained to the group.
Nobody replied to Evelyn, so Ava volunteered to go with her. "We'll see you in a bit."
We walked through the crowd to get a little closer to the front. Evelyn pushing everyone away from us, nobody cared until someone did.
"Hey! What the fuck are you doing!" A voice yelled from the side. We looked his way and his shirt was covered in Evelyn's drink. She accidentally threw it over him.
"Who the fuck are you to talk to my frie-." And then it hit Ava. She couldn't even finish her sentence. What was he doing here?
"Ave, are you okay?" Evelyn asked her, but go no answer back. Her friend was shocked at the sight of the man in front of them.
"Nicholas?" Was all that came out of her mouth.
"How do you know my name?" He questioned her. He didn't even know who she was anymore? She didn't change that much over the years. Yes she has some highlights through her brown hair and her outfit style, but she was pretty much the same.
"It's Ava, Nick." She told him
His furrowed eyebrows shot up with his eyes. The realisation finally hit him.
"Ava Hughes in the flesh?" He joked.
Ava couldn't really laugh at his joke, her mind was blurry not only from the alcohol but also from confusion. The last time they spoke it was bad, both yelling at one another and Ava hitting him because he yelled at her.
"You know what I thought it would feel when I would see you for the first time again? Anger. Guess what, I was right!" His sentence getting angrier by every word coming out of his mouth.
Ava was taken back by his sudden attitude. "Who the hell are you to talk to my friend that way!" Evelyn yelled in his face.
"Ev, let's just go back to the group." Ava grabbed her arm and dragged Evelyn with her back to the group.
"I'm just gonna go to the bathroom really quick." Ava said immediately walking away from the group.
Ava splashed some water in her face, it felt like she was melting away in there. Her cheeks were bright red and not just from the heat or alcohol. He was still mad at her after those years. Ava was still mad of course, but she wouldn't react the way he did. She had the right to be mad at him all those years ago, and she felt the same way till this day.
A door slammed open, Ava jumped from the loud thud against the wall. She turned around and saw the man who she grew up with.
"You can't just walk away from the confrontation." He yelled out at her, while getting closer to her. "You hurt me back then, and you have the right just to walk away?" His voice not angry but sad this time.
"Nick if you would ple-."
"Nicholas."
Ava looked confused at him.
"You don't get to call me that anymore, you lost the right to call me that years ago." He told her.
"I see you haven't changed one bit." He turned around and angrily stormed out of the bathroom, leaving a stunned Ava there.
The door opened once again, but now Amelia was standing there. "What happened Ave? Are you okay?" She asked concerned.
"I'm okay, but maybe it's better for me to go home." Ava explained.
"Nu uh, don't let that guy ruin your night, take another shot and we're gonna party until we have to crawl back home." She grabbed Ava's arm and walked back into the club.
And they indeed party until the crawled home, not literally of course. Their uber driver back home was extremely annoyed at the group while driving them home. Who wouldn't like 6 drunk people in their uber drive?
When Ava's head hit her pillow, her head couldn't stop spinning, not only from the drinks but from the thought of seeing Nick after al those years again.
