~Chloe~

It was Monday morning and for once I was the one trying to get Zoe to wake up.

"Zoe!!! For God's sake get out of bed! We are going to be late!!!" I screamed into her ears when she refused to respond to my gentle tapping on her shoulder. It was five minutes past seven and our assembly starts at exactly 8 AM, but as prefects we needed to be in school by half past seven. I was already dressed in my school uniform and I had even had my breakfast.

I just came back to get my school bag so I could be on my way out. Thank God I decided to check on Zoe, who by the way was still fast asleep despite me screaming my lungs out for her to wake up. I sighed in annoyance wondering what had gotten into her to make her sleep so deeply.

Anyway, we had twenty-five minutes left to get to school; right now, desperate times called for desperate measures even though what I was about to do was pretty stupid and could've easily ended up badly. I went back into my room, took my pet spider and dumped it on Zoe's face.

"For your sake let's hope she doesn't kill you and Mr. Petter for doing this," I said to myself. Her reaction was priceless. She flew out of bed the minute she sensed my spider walking all over her face. Screaming like a maniac she ran into her personal walk in bathroom while I searched around her room for Mr. Petter, my pet spider.

I was glad he wasn't hurt as I spotted him on the laptop on Zoe's study table. I rushed over to grab him so I could return it back to my room. By the time I was reentering Zoe's room she was all dressed up in our school uniform and was about put on her Blake wedges canvas. Once she sensed my presence in her room, she began throwing things at me to get me out of her room.

Thanks to my quick reflexes, I was able to dodge all the things she was throwing at me before getting out of her room. "And stay out!" she barked as I headed down the stairs. I checked the time: 7:23 AM. There was no use rushing any more, we were officially going to be late to school today and this time it wasn't my fault.

I whipped out my phone to take a few pictures—yes, they allow phones in my school but not during class so don't give me that look. Once I was done posting the picture on my WhatsApp status, Zoe finally graced us with her presence, the same minute Samuel Dawson responded to my WhatsApp status.

"Don't get your pretty ass to school! Be busy doing selfie there... you late comer," his message read. "I'm on my way captain obvious," I texted back and with that I switched off my data connection putting my phone in my bag pack.

Zoe and I both headed to the garage where the car was parked with a driver waiting for us in the car. We got in and zoomed off heading to school using all available shortcuts to our advantage. Dad would have been the one to drive us but he was having a runny stomach and Mom was too busy not getting over the fact that she was a receptionist at work.

We got to school just a few minutes after eight. Thank God we were able to make it in time for assembly though we missed the Monday morning prefect's meeting. I took my place behind the JSS 2 and 3 girls today. The assembly went well—quite smoothly.

Immediately after the assembly we were all dismissed proceeding to our various classes, Molly and Antonio were behind me while Samuel was beside me letting me know how great it was at Matilda's party on Valentine's.
"Can we not talk about her right now Samuel? I couldn't care less of what went down."
"I know I'm just—I'm just saying. It was awesome and to top it off, her birthday slash welcome back to school party is around the corner."

"Yay," I exclaimed sarcastically, but he obviously saw right through it. "C'mon Babajide, it's the party of the year, not to mention the very last of its kind. You really want to tell me you're not excited?? Heck are you even coming to that party?" He asked me and I just rolled my eyes at him in response saying "No, why should I go stick my nose at a party that I'm obviously not invited to?"

I had barely finished speaking when we spotted Matilda advancing towards us. And I didn't even bother hiding my irritation to Samuel, Molly and Antonio. "Speak of the devil and she appears," I said, almost too loud. She obviously heard me. She started walking towards us, giving me a killing look and a roll of the eyes and I responded with equal measure. She smirked. "Oh, hey Chloe, didn't see you there. How did your Valentine's day go?"

She couldn't have sounded any less genuine. "That's none of your—" but I didn't get to complete my statement as she interrupted me saying  "Ugh jeez, pardon my bad manners! I totally forgot your love life died before you were even conceived."  She was starting to get to me. Molly who was directly behind me said in a comforting way. "Hey, you had a blast that day, so don't let her get to you. You can choose to ignore her," she reminded.

I gave her a lopsided smile knowing she was right. I shouldn't let her get to me but I couldn't deny the fact that I was hurt by her statement. My friends and I were in my class now and Molly  wanted to borrow my English notebook. I didn't even notice when Samuel and Antonio left my side.

I guess they must have left the minute they saw Matilda approaching. They must have thought she was bringing bad news so they fled when they saw their chance thought but my subconscious response sarcastically

Noooo, they would not flee, they'd wait for you, tch—see question! When someone's entire existence is bad news-

I just chuckled at the comment my subconscious made as I went to take my seat at the back of the class. Minutes later, Matilda entered with her minions, she noticed Molly was in our class and decided to used it to her advantage. "Hey Moles what's the matter? Took a wrong turn to your Art class. I mean, last I checked you didn't have enough brain to be in science class."

"And last I checked; you did have enough boobs to leave your cleavage on display. Please pick on someone your own size next time." She wasn't being polite. Burn!!!!!!! O M G!! Did my best friend just say that? Those were the word my subconscious screamed at me. I had to cover my mouth from laughing while the rest of my class mates laughed hysterically.

Some screamed "Ohhh burn!!!"  in Matilda's face. Of course, that didn't sit well with her and as she was about to give Molly her own savage response, our Geography teacher walked in causing everyone to go dead quiet while Molly took it as her que to leave. She winked at me on her way out and I just giggled softly.

Classes went by slowly as usual, and since I had covered most of the topics we were to treat this term over the holiday, I eventually zoned out and gave into my urge to drawing something on my textbook. Soon enough it was break time and I was delighted I was walking side by side with Molly and Antonio to the cafeteria to get something to eat.

Don't get me wrong Molly and Antonio begged me to do this, saying they wouldn't help me find me a date to prom if I didn't eat with them in the cafeteria together. Beside it's a win-win for me because Zoe and I didn't bring lunch today and I didn't have enough change on me to get food.

"OMG, Molly I cannot believe you said that to the two-year reigning champion Queen Bee"

"Oh please, it's not like what I said was that bad."

"Girllll! You murdered her with your statement."

"Who did she murder? Why is my girlfriend murdering people?" the clueless Antonio asked. I just chuckled at his clueless state before filling him in on the whole ordeal that happened in my class. He ended up laughing his head off until we entered the cafeteria.

We all went to join the queue so we could buy our food and find a good place to sit.
We were all sitting at the center of the cafeteria where all eyes were and could be on us. I was paranoid obviously because I thought only the popular kids sit here; well I was wrong. There was no specific sitting position in the cafeteria it's 'sit where you please but be mindful of who you sit with because you don't want to end up sitting with someone who wants your head at all cost.'

"Chloe can you stop worrying? The cafeteria is not a war zone, okay? It's not a--"
She stopped half sentence when Antonio stuffed a spoon full of potato porridge in her mouth. "No talking while eating you guys, you're forgetting your table manners." I just giggled at them being the cutest couple in school.

Seconds later I'm finally relaxing into my seat and devouring my meal with some pear juice. Once we were done eating, I decided to execute my plan as I spotted Jayson leisurely walking into the cafeteria, with Matilda on his arms. Apparently, I wasn't the only one who noticed because the next voice I heard was that of Antonio. "Is it just me or is anyone else seeing Matilda and Jayson... together?"

"Well babe, I think I might need a pair of glasses, because their fake love is actually quite blinding." Molly responded to Antonio while I just sat there scrutinizing them with my eyes and when I couldn't take it anymore, I spoke. "Well, there is only one way to find out if Jayson actually wrote those riddles that he sent as letters to me. I'm going in guys."

"Um, Chloe, do you think now is a good time. Besides, and she is already gone..." I hear Molly call out to me but I had already made my way down to Jayson's table. I got to their table and cleared my throat loud enough to their attention and it worked. The people who were at the table were Jayson, Efua, Amaka, Matilda and a couple other guys from the Commercial class. They all looked at me, boring holes into my skin with their eyes. I Ignored them and focused my gaze intently on Jayson.

"Hey can I talk to you for a moment... In private?"

"I don't think so, no."

"Why not?"

"Cause, Zoe, I'm kind of in the middle of lunch with my folks... obviously."

Ugh—why is it so hard to tell Zoe and I apart?

"I'm Chloe, genius... and we really need to talk. It's kind of urgent." There was no real sense of urgency in my voice though. Before he could utter another word, Matilda who has been quietly glaring at me spoke up.

Don't feel bad, Chloe. At least Matilda can tell the difference between you and Zoe.

Just shut the fuck up, subconscious.

A'ight, I'm just saying.

"Don't worry babe, I'll keep your lunch warm for you. Let's hear what this dimwit has to say."

Babe? Babe?? Are these two kidding me?? They can't even stay in the same room without arguing, how are they both in a relationship and still alive??? On a regular day I wouldn't pay attention to her words but then again, my subconscious was right. Babe???

"Totally ignoring you... like I said, I'd like to speak to him alone," I said, pulling him to one corner of the cafeteria. "A'ight, I'm all ears. This better be good because I have a pile of hungry worms in my stomach to feed and—"
I didn't let him finish  before I jumped unit his mother saying "Why do you keep sending me those letters?"

"I'm sorry what?" He asked looking lost and confused.I glared at him for a while before saying  "Stop playing dumb," I rolled my eyes and brought out the two letters that were in the clear bag I had with me all along. Once he saw the letters, his eyes that had the playful spark in it went cold and dead serious.  "This look familiar to you? Good so start talking, why have you been sending these riddles as letters? What do they even mean??"

"Chloe don't take this the wrong way but... it... it wasn't me. Dude I literally hate riddles, why the heck would I waste precious time writing dumb riddles as letters then send it to you?"

"Don't play smart with me boy. Your name is on the letters. So?"

"So? Dude I just told you. It wasn't me sending you those letters! And if you don't believe me you might as well just fuck off then!!" He yelled getting the attention of the whole cafeteria. To say I was stunned was an understatement.

Just when I was about speak, Matilda walked over to the side in the cafeteria where we stood. "I think you've said enough Chloe, thanks for ruining lunch.  C'mon babe let's get out of here," she said as she gave him a peck on his cheek and then pulled him along with her out of the cafeteria. I just stood there, too stunned to move.
