Her hum had a happiness to it; a gentle tone. There was something carefree about the notes as they echoed in the room and nature itself began to awaken by just the sound of her voice. Her eyes rested upon the golden arcing rays, knowing the dark is far and ever lit by stars. The whistles from the trees became all the more powerful, as if the wind was it's conductor's wand, and together they are the song that calls forth the summer. Everything was in honeyed tones, so heavenly and soothing.
The sound of a soft coo returned her attention back to the bundle of joy resting in her arms. Her baby's smile was sweet as a summer fruit and filled her with a sunshine she never knew existed in the world.
She slid her pinky into her baby's open hand and watched as the fingers curled around it, a sleepy smile forming on her daughter's lips.
He entered the room, smiling brightly as he witnessed the sight in front of him. His two most precious love of his life.
Watching as she rocked back and forth on the chair with their miracle in her arms, singing a lullaby to her, he strode over to them and knelt down in front of them.
Just for them.
"She's beautiful," the mother murmured softly as she caressed the newborn's cheek.
"Just like her mother." He stroked his daughter's cheek too, briefly glancing up at his blushing wife.
"I'm so happy." Tears glistened in her eyes.
"As am I," he smiled fondly.
Peace?
Oh how unfortunate this emotion was short lived, turning into pieces of shattered glass.
After all it was forbidden for them to feel.

Β Β "Hey. It's me, Eve. Obviously you know that," Evelyn laughed nervously over the phone.
Elena, Jenna and Jeremy were sat in the living room listening to the voicemail she had sent to Elena. The younger twin had ran into their home as soon as she heard it, hoping Evelyn was still home and unfortunately she had left before she could stop her.
"Anyways if you're listening to this then that means i'm gone and you probably want to know why. Believe me I didn't want to do this but it had to be done. So I made a deal with Klaus. I know I'm stupid for doing this but in order to save Aunt J's life, I agreed to leave town with him."
They heard her small sniffles and their eyes began to fill with tears too. "I'm so sorry but I had no choice and it's better this way. It'll give me peace knowing that you are all safe."
"Elena, i'll take care of Stefan. We'll look out for each other but I want you all to do a small favour for me. Don't be sad, i'll be back one day. I'm not sure when but until then I want you to look out for each other because your ugly asses can't do that without me," she laughed and a sad smile crept on their faces.
"Take care of Damon for me. He can be so reckless at times and tell him not to day drink too much."
"Jemmie, please don't do drugs or anything stupid. I know you worry a lot about me but I'll be fine. Take care of Kenji and tell him i'm sorry that I won't be able to do our daily Marvel and Harry Potter marathons."
"Can you all look after Bonnie too? Make sure she doesn't do any witchy stuff that could hurt her. Put her first for me please."
"Aunt J, I won't be there for your graduation but congratulations in advance! I have a gift for you which is in my wardrobe. So open it on the day you graduate. Once again thank you for being the best aunt ever."
"Oh and make sure Caroline doesn't steal my clothes and tell her I love her," Evelyn giggled.
"And that goes for Tyler and Matt too. I hope they take care of themselves."
"This is a goodbye for now and I love you all so much. Peace out!"
There wasn't even a dry eye in the room as they glanced around suddenly feeling cold. Silence. Their home was filled with emptiness. The person they relied on their happiness most was gone.
But that didn't mean they would give up on finding Evelyn and Stefan, and bring them back home.
ββββββββββ
"Give me some time to think what ice cream flavours I want. Don't put me under pressure Nik!" Evelyn stressed out.
"It's just ice cream," Klaus shrugged.
"Just ice cream?!" She glared at him.
"Forget what I said," he quickly said.
"Good," she nodded, retuning back to thinking what she wanted.
Klaus took notice of how close Evelyn was walking besides him, their hands occasionally brushing against each other and the urge to hold it in his, but instead he held himself back.
"How long is Stefan going to take?" She murmured as she continued with her rambling, waiting for Stefan besides the car that was ready to take them to the airport.
She hadn't even realised that Klaus was gazing at her fondly while she spoke her nonsense.
Although Evelyn seemed the same in his dreams, she was yet different right in front of him now. She was sweet but held sassiness, most of the time would be unintentional and the way she would quickly apologise for her remarks. Something he had noticed a lot in the short time they met. She needed to stop doing that.
He found her clumsiness hilarious.
He admired her gentle nature the most. She probably baked cupcakes for people she didn't even like but would want them to have a smile on their face nevertheless. He hoped she baked him cupcakes one day.
"Cupcakes? What about it?" Evelyn asked and Klaus' eyes widened. Did I just say that out loud?
"What?" He cleared his throat, almost feeling his cheeks heat up. "I didn't say anything," he shook his head.
"Oh," she nodded slowly. "Damon calls me cupcake," she chirped. He pressed his lips in a thin line, jaws slightly clenching. Here we go again.
"It's such a cute nickname," Evelyn gushed, thinking about her best friend who she was already missing.
"No it's not," Klaus bluntly retorted taking Evelyn by surprise. "It's horrible. Who names someone after a food? Only an idiot would," he scoffed with a dry chuckle.
"My teddy bear is called Cookie. So i'm an idiot then," Evelyn murmured and Klaus mentally cursed himself, regretting what he just said.
"Iβ that's notβ Iβ" he stammered over his words.
"Maybe I should start calling you tomato because you're always angry," she suddenly snapped back at him.
He looked horrified. "First Kevin now tomato. You better not call me any of those."
"Relax," she giggled, throwing her head back slightly and Klaus loosened up at the sight of her laughter.
"You're not an idiot," he spoke softly and she smiled. "Damon is though." She rolled her eyes at him.
"Why do you even hate Damon? Wait, why am I even asking that. You hate everyone," she stated.
"I don't hate everyone," he mumbled.
"Oh really?" She humoured. "Who don't you hate?"
You.
"Tell me," Evelyn insisted as she stood in front of him. "Who's the unlucky person then?"
Klaus took in the sight of her. She was wearing his jacket that was too big for her. He watched as she tilted her head, gazing into his eyes as he smiled teasingly, reaching out to tuck the strand of her hair behind her ear.
But he couldn't when Stefan walked towards them. Evelyn took a glance over Klaus' shoulder. "Stefan!" She ran to him.
Klaus rolled his eyes at their close interaction whilst he instructed the driver to put away their luggages in the boot of the car.
Evelyn looked at Stefan. He looked distraught with himself and she sighed, rubbing her hands down his arms.
"It's okay," she whispered. "You have me. Stefano and Evie, yeah?" She reassured him with a comforting smile.
Stefan nodded, keeping a promise to himself that he would protect the soft girl in front of him especially with Klaus around her.
"Come on, we need to go." Evelyn held his hand and walked over to the car.
Evelyn stepped inside and before Klaus could sit next to her, Stefan instead sat down besides Evelyn, immediately taking in his big brother role very seriously.
Annoyed, Klaus heaved a deep breath, controlling the urges to not lash out and sat down, with Stefan in between him and Evelyn.
ββββββββββ
"We're here, Eve." Stefan woke her up from her short nap.
She rubbed at her eyes and Klaus opened the door for her, helping her step out of the car and immediately her anxiety kicked in, seeing how huge and crowded the airport was. She bit on her lip nervously and began fiddling with Klaus' jacket as she took in how busy her surroundings was.
She had never been inside an airport let alone on a plane.
"Eve?" She looked away and turned towards Stefan. "What's wrong?"
"I've never been on a plane before," she whispered to him.
"It's okay," he said.
"No it's not! What if we fly across the Bermuda Triangle. You've heard the rumours. No one comes back!" She exclaimed, bouncing on her toes with a panicked look.
"And remember that movie we watched. Snakes on a Plane. What if a snake bites us." She bit her lip and glanced around.
"You watch too many movies," he chuckled.
"Iβ I think we should take a boat or a car to wherever we are going. Actually not a boat we might drown like in Titanic. I don't want to go now." She hugged her arms around herself.
Stefan laughed, placing his hands on her shoulder and stopped her from fidgeting. "We're flying from one state to another. We're not going anywhere near the Bermuda Triangle and there's no snakes. Nothing is going to happen. I'm here Okay?" He reassured her.
"Okay," she sighed and Klaus returned back to them.
"Ready?" He asked a nervous Evelyn who shrugged in response.
Evelyn slipped her hand into Stefan's with Klaus briefly glancing down at it then turned away.
She glanced around the airport. "So many people." She tightened her grip on his hand and Stefan wrapped his arm around her to keep her close to him.
"I'm here. Don't be afraid," he told her.
ββββββββββ
Evelyn bit on her lower lip whilst she twisted at Klaus' jacket sleeve again. They were sat in an almost deserted part of the airport with a few people around them.
"Where are you going?" Evelyn asked when Stefan stood up.
"To get you something to eat. I'll be back," he reassured her with a smile.
"Okay. Make sure to get yourself something too," she told him, watching as he left.
She sighed and turned in her seat to face Klaus who had been on call to someone on his phone. Placing her arms on the armchair, she rested her cheeks against her hands, staring at him with a small pout fixed on her lips.
She was so tempted to poke his dimples.
From the corner of his eye, Klaus looked at Evelyn and smirked, ending the call and turned his attention to her. "Done staring at me? Would you like to take a picture instead. I know i'm handsomeβ"
Evelyn cut him off with a scoff. "You're so obsessed with yourself."
"It's called self love," he said.
"It's a bit too much," she mumbled and he shrugged with a smug smile.
She took her phone out, rubbing her temple when she saw the countless of messages and voicemails, Caroline being majority of that, shouting at her for leaving and threatening to steal her clothes from her wardrobe.
"I should've brought all my clothes with me," she mumbled.
She scrolled through her contacts, when Klaus took a peek and eyes widening at the name she put him as. "Bloody hell woman! You named me Kevin the Hybrid creep?!" He shouted, earning looks from the few people around them.Β
"With a dog next to it," he whispered harshly.
Evelyn quickly turned off her phone, shoving it inside her pocket. "I didn't. That's a different Kevin," she smiled innocently.
"Who just so happens to be a hybrid too?" He sarcastically said. "Give me your phone."
"No. And if you try to take it off me i'll scream and tell people you're harassing and kidnapping me," she dared him.
Klaus turned away from her. "I like the name." She tugged on his elbow but he refused to look at her.
"I'm not a creep."
"Don't pout," Evelyn giggled.
"I'm not," he muttered.
"Are you going to cry?" She teased him.
"No," he glared at her.
"No," she mimicked his voice, glaring back at him but she couldn't help but smile widely. It was contagious enough to bring one even to Klaus' face.
She spoke with so much joy and excitement, the tone being captivating enough for him to remember why he had even thought to take her with him. He was a selfish bastard for taking her away from her family but he needed her. She was full of warmth and happiness and he craved for it. For her presence.
"Nik!" She snapped her fingers in front of his face bringing him back out of his daze. "You okay? You seem a little lost." He stared at her, hating himself for what he had done to her.
Yet, here she was asking if he was okay when she had every right to hate him.
"I'm fine," he said.
"So where are we going then?"
"We are off to find a wolf pack rumoured to be in Florida," he informed her.
"To make your hybrids?" She asked quietly and he nodded.
"What is my purpose then, for taking me with you? I mean if you want to use my powers then it's going to be difficult because I can't seem to control it and it just randomly shows up whenever it feels likeβ" Evelyn hastily spoke.
Klaus tilted her chin to face him. "Love," he inched closer, a soft glint in his eyes making her breath hitch as she tried to keep her composure, but she stiffened slightly at how close his face was to hers. "I don't want to use you for your powers."
"Then why take me?" She whispered.
"Because I always get what I want." He lightly brushed his thumb against her cheek and she gulped.
"That's not a reasonable answer." She moved back and he smirked.
"I enjoy our talks."
"We argue like 99% of the time. So you're saying you enjoy arguing with me," she countered back and he chuckled.
There was a moment of silence and Evelyn glanced down at her hands, sighing. Klaus noticed. "Eve?"
"Hm?" She looked at him.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"Nothing," she shrugged.
"There is something clearly bothering you."
Evelyn contemplated if she should ask him. Klaus took her silence as an answer and decided to leave her be.
But she eventually did. "Have you ever seen anyone like me before?" She whispered,
He looked into her eyes as he spoke honestly, "No." She frowned, shoulders slumping. "But I will help you find answers. I know people that may know," he reassured her.
"You would do that for me?" She asked, surprised.
Always.
"I did promise that I will give you whatever you want."
"What's the catch?" A part of her didn't believe him.
He raised a hand to his chest, offended, but with slight humour. Her words had been harsh, but her voice was soft. Of course she wouldn't believe him.
"I'mβ i'm sorry," she quickly spoke, feeling guilty at the way she spoke to him. "I didn't mean to sound rude. Please don't be sad."
"I'm not. Don't apologise," he softly replied.
"It's just everyone expects something in return," she said.
"I understand, love. You have every right to not trust me."
"We got off the wrong foot and what they said about you," she trailed off, remembering everything she heard about Klaus.
"And you believe it?" He asked.
She shrugged, her eyes staring into his. "Everybody has their own demons. What matters is the choice. Some choose to fight it, others let it consume them," she said softly.
They finally broke eye contact when Stefan came back. "Thank you," Evelyn beamed when he bought her a couple of chocolate bars.
Klaus let his mind wander, Evelyn's words echoing and filled with questions.
Was he capable of fighting his own demons?
ββββββββββ
"A private jet?" Evelyn gasped at the sight, her gaze flickering back to Stefan. "He owns a private jet. Oh. My. God." He held back in his laughter.
They stepped inside, taking their seats. Evelyn frowned when Stefan sat by himself in the far corner. She shrugged it off, leaving him be. He wanted to be alone and she didn't want to annoy him by invading his personal space.
Taking a seat besides the window, Evelyn took a glance, her sight then drifting towards Klaus who had came to sit down, opposite her. She returned her attention back to the window, playing with her fingers nervously.
Klaus heard her heart rapidly beating and stood up, making Evelyn look at him when his hands slightly brushed past her waist as he fastened her seatbelt on. "Don't want you to fall and hurt yourself when the plane takes off," he teased and she quietly laughed.
"I'm so stupid." She palmed her forehead.
"Is this your first time?" He asked and she nodded.
"I'm kinda scared. Scratch that. Absolutely terrified but i'm also excited. Have you checked if there's snakes? And does the pilot know what he's doing? We're not flying past the Bermuda Triangle are we? I don't want to disappear," she jumbled over her words.
Klaus watched her ramble with a smile. "There's no need to be afraid, love. I'm here," he reassured her and she slowly nodded, finding herself believe in him.
When the pilot announced the take off in a few minutes, Evelyn began to fidget in her seat, feeling the panic rise in her. "I don't think i'm ready for this. I'm going to die," she mumbled.
Klaus noticed her legs shaking up and down, and placed a hand on top of hers, calming her nerves. With the other hand, he placed it under her chin and made her face him. "Focus on me," he whispered in a soothing voice and she gazed into his eyes as he continued to speak.
When she felt it take off, she squeezed her eyes shut and held on to Klaus' hand, intertwining her fingers with his and keeping a firm grip on it as he rubbed circles on the back of it to keep her calm.
"It's over, my love," he said. Evelyn opened up her eyes as he pointed towards the window.
"Wow!" Evelyn gasped in awe. "We're actually flying?!" She beamed excitedly.
He was about to protest when she took off her seatbelt and kneeled on her seat to look at Stefan who was sitting at the far back, with his eyes shut. "Stefano! We're flying. We're on the sky. Can you believe that?!" She exclaimed with a wide smile and Stefan laughed giving her a thumbs up.
"This is so cool." She sat back down and turned back to the window, her fingers gripping at the edge of it, watching the soft, white clouds like candy floss in wonder.
"It's so beautiful. Isn't it, Nik?" She asked, her eyes still fixated on the window.
"It's beautiful," he whispered, his own eyes fixed on her gorgeous smile.
"Oh." Her eyes lit up as she turned to face him. "I think I know what ice cream flavours I want."
Klaus nodded for her to continue and being attentive to her demands.
The flight had then shifted into a pleasant silence as Evelyn watched a movie and Klaus reading a book, occasionally stealing small glances at the beauty who he now sat opposite of.
Taking a look over her shoulder to check on Stefan, Evelyn stood up from her seat walking over to where he was sat only to find him asleep. She smiled, grabbing a blanket and draped it over him.
Sitting back on her seat, Evelyn smiled when the air hostess approached her, and let her know she didn't want anything. Looking back at Klaus, his eyes met hers.
"I think she has a crush on you. She's been coming over here for the fifth time the past hour," Evelyn said with a teasing tone.
Klaus rolled his eyes, glancing down back at his book as he spoke, "Not me. You're her type. I heard her telling the other girl."
"Oh."
ββββββββββ
Florida
Evelyn took in the lavish apartment, hardly believing what she was seeing. There was a humongous window that stretched from the floor to ceiling. She could see most of the city and already imagine how beautiful the night skyline would look. A large crystal chandelier hung down from the ceiling and she craned her neck trying to see it all. A small set of stairs led down into a lowered living area with plush couches and arm chairs.
She didn't realise she was standing for too long when Klaus' voice brought her back out of her daze. "Let me show you to your room." She followed after him.
He opened the door, letting her in first as she glanced around the room. It was just as lavish as the rest of the suite, with a large bed, a walk in closet, and an amazing view of the city.
"Are you sleeping with me?!" She exclaimed, eyes widening and a hand over her mouth at how she worded it when she caught the smirk on Klaus' face.
"That's not what I meant! Are you sleeping next to me? On this bed? Because it's quite a big bed," she asked nervously.
Klaus stood in front of her, and Evelyn shifted awkwardly on her feet, averting her eyes away from his. "Do you want me to?" His tone was playful.
"No!" Evelyn cried out. "I never want to sleep with you!"
"Hm," he nodded.
"Don't 'hm' me. It's never going to happen." She didn't meet his eyes though. "You're supposed to be the bad guy," she whispered.
He raised a brow at the way she expressed it, almost ironically. "Something tells me you like that about me."
"Well I don't." She shook her head rapidly. "And seduction doesn't work with me."
He chuckled. "If there's anything you need just tell me. I will be next door."
"I'm next door to you?" She asked in disbelief. "Why not Stefan?"
"Don't worry I won't do anything. Not unless you beg me to," he teased and her eyes widened.
She took a step back, taking her shoes off to hit him. "Youβ" She threw the shoe towards him but he sped out of the room before it could hit him.
"Stupid old dick," she muttered.
She placed her bag on the bed, taking her time to unpack and make herself restful. After changing into her pyjamas, she dived into the soft, large bed, letting her body engulf it and sighed. She turned to her side to see the view of the city.
Then her thoughts drifted back to Mystic Falls. Wondering what everyone else was doing. She missed them so badly and the thought of them was now making her emotional. She buried her face into her hands, trying not to cry.
A knock at the door was heard and she immediately sat up, replacing the distressed look with a smile. "Yes?" She answered with a shaky voice.
The door opened and Stefan entered. "Klaus went out to do something."
Stefan noticed her eyes watering. "Hey, don't cry. I'm not going to let him hurt you. I promise." He crouched down in front of her.
"It's not him," she whispered. "I feel sick. I miss home so much."
"So do I," he whispered.
"Elena braids my hair because I find it difficult to do it on myself and Aunt J cuddles when I can't sleepβ I don't have anyone to cuddle with. Sometimes Jeremy stays so I don't have any nightmares. I've never be this far away from them."
Stefan wiped her tears away, knowing how dependent she was on her family and leaving them was going to be difficult for her to adjust.
He pulled her into a hug and rubbed her back. "It's going to be fine. We have each other. Remember what you told me, Stefano and Evie, yeah?"
She nodded with a sniffle. "I don't want you to become the ripper though."
"I know but I promise i'll try my best to fight it and if I don't, you can kick my ass," he said with a warm smile.
"Okay," she laughed whilst rubbing her eyes.
"Now try and get some sleep. It's been a tiring day," he said. "Do you want to eat anything first?" Evelyn shook her head.
She slipped into bed. "Stef?" He hummed in response as he caressed her hair to help her fall asleep.
"I did it to keep them safe. Did I do the right thing? Am I an idiot for leaving them?" She asked.
"You're not an idiot. You did it because you love them. You're a brave person," he told her.
"He's not going hurt me," she whispered and he raised a brow. "Nik said he won't hurt me. He promised."
Stefan remained silent. He didn't believe it. A dangerous man like Klaus promised this sweet and gentle girl in front of him to not hurt her? Impossible.
She yawned, slowly drifting into a slumber. "Good night, Stef."
"Good night, Eve."
"Don't give up," she mumbled. Stefan didn't say anything again. He knew that his promise would be broken sooner or later. He was slowly losing himself, but Evelyn reminded him there was determination. He only hoped that he would fight it for her.
ββββββββββ
Few days had passed by ever since they settled in Florida. The search for the wolf pack was getting them nowhere but Klaus was still adamant on finding them.
Now another day meant struggling to get Evelyn out of bed for Klaus and Stefan. It would take a couple of hours to convince her to leave the hotel.
"I don't want to go," Evelyn groaned as she threw the duvet cover over her head.
"Come on, Eve." Stefan tugged on the cover but she kept a tight hold on it.
"Hands off." She swatted his hands away. "It's too early to go out."
"Eve, it's nearly 12pm." Stefan ran a hand over his face.
"Get out!" She threw a pillow at him.
"Eveβ"
"Don't make me throw my slippers at you." She glared with her barely opened eyes.
Stefan sighed and walked out. "And for God's sake, close the door!" He heard Evelyn shout and immediately shut it.
Klaus snickered behind his glass of blood when he heard Evelyn's tantrum and a defeated Stefan walk out. "She doesn't want to leave. Let's go."
"She's coming with us." Klaus stood up and headed into Evelyn's room.
"I wouldn'tβ" Stefan began and a pair of slippers was thrown out of the room, one of them hitting Klaus' face very harshly.
"Ouch," Klaus said in a monotonous tone.
"I told you it's too early!" Evelyn scowled.
"Easy there, love," Klaus teased and she groaned, burying her face into the pillow. "Get up. We need to leave soon."
"Go without me." Her voice was muffled and felt the side of her bed dip. "I was having a good dream. You both ruined it."
"It's 12," he said.
"That's still morning," she grumbled. "2 more hours." She placed the cover over her face and rolled on her stomach.
"I'll buy you ice cream. How ever much you want today." That caught Evelyn's attention.
She lowered the covers down just below her nose and attempted to open up her eyes. "You're lying."
"I'm not."
"If I find out you're lying i'm never speaking to you and the only word that's coming out of my mouth is Kevin," she said.
"I promise," he nodded.
She dragged herself up, rubbing her eyes. "Where did my slippers go?" She mumbled, too tired to even know what was going around her.
"You threw them on my face," Klaus said.
"I did?" Evelyn tilted her head, her hair a mess and lips puckered into a slight pout.
He chuckled, standing up and getting her slippers back. Kneeling in front of her, he slipped them on her feet.
Evelyn patted him on his head, muttering a 'thank you' which made Klaus roll his eyes at the gesture.
She stretched her arms out, sighing in content. "I love morning stretches."
Standing up, she dragged the duvet that was wrapped around her body and walked to the bathroom.
"How clumsy can she get," Klaus muttered when Evelyn walked straight towards a wall instead of the bathroom and he sped in front of her, letting her head hit his chest before it hit the wall.
"Mmm so soft," Evelyn smiled lazily. "I mean I'm awake." She glanced up at Klaus well more like hitting her head on his chest again.
"Sure you are." Klaus picked her up as she wrapped her arms around his neck, instantly falling back asleep. He laid her back down on the bed, taking her slippers off. "1 hour," he said.
"Cool. Do I still get ice cream?" She murmured in her sleep.
"Yes," he sighed, shaking his head with a small smile and left her to sleep for a while longer.
ββββββββββ
"Wait!" Evelyn stopped Klaus and Stefan as they turned around with a tiring look on their faces.
"What have you forgotten now?" Klaus rubbed at his temple.
"The pepper sprays you bought for me. I can't forget about my babies!" She ran back into her room.
"She's going to get us late," Klaus said.
"You wanted her to go," Stefan shrugged.
"Did I ask for your opinion," he retorted back.
"Then why are you complaining," Stefan mumbled with an eye roll.
Evelyn walked back out of her room, happily skipping back over to them. "Have you got everything you need?" Stefan asked.
"Yes, but I still haven't checked if the sprays work." Her eyes were fixed on the sprays in her hands and their eyes widened. "Can I test it on you both? I'll only spray a bit." She stepped forward and they took a step back.
"It works," Klaus said.
"Are you sure? Let's double check." She raised her green spray towards Klaus, ready to spray him.
"No need to." He took them off her and placed it inside her bag. "I checked them for you when I bought them."
"If you say so," she shrugged.
"Are you done?" Stefan asked.
"I think so," she thought for a moment. "Can I change my dress? I don't like this one on me too."
"No!" Klaus and Stefan said.
"Fine. Maybe we should take snacks for the road trip." She was about to turn around when Stefan wrapped an arm around her shoulder, guiding her out of the hotel room.
"What about the snack?" She asked.
"We'll stop at a gas station," Klaus said.
"Okay."
Klaus eyed her arm that was hooked around Stefan's and she affectionately laid her head against his shoulder. Shaking off the thoughts from his mind, he reminded himself. They are just friends.
He groaned in frustration when a few people passed by at the hotel were giving him looks. Just great! Now they thought he was third wheeling Stefan and Evelyn by the way he was trailing behind them.
"I called shotgun before." Evelyn bumped her hip with Stefan's to push him away when they approached the car.
Stefan rolled his eyes, opening the door for her and she thanked him, sitting down and he sat at the back with Klaus driving.
"Seatbelt, love," Klaus said and Evelyn frowned.
"Put yours on first," she reprimanded.
"I don't needβ"
"I couldn't care less if you're the original Hybrid. Safety first," she shook her head. "You too Stefano." Her eyes were flickering between Klaus and Stefan, patiently waiting to put on their seatbelt.
They eventually obeyed her and Evelyn gave them a satisfied smile with a nod, fastening hers on too.
She watched with amusement when Klaus struggled to turn on the sat nav, hearing him grumble under his breath and his lips pressed into a thin line when he caught Evelyn snickering quietly.
"Give me it." She reached out to take it off him.
He was too stubborn to hand it over. "I can do it."
"You clearly can't." She snatched it off him. "Old man," she giggled.
"I'm not old," he rolled his eyes.
"Are you both done arguing?" Stefan interrupted their bickering.
"What's got your SpongeBob panties in a twist?" Evelyn narrowed her eyes at him. "Cheer up, Stefano. We get to do carpool karaoke," she beamed.
Klaus looked terrified at the thought of it. "Absolutely not."
"We're doing carpool karaoke," she demanded.
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"You're acting as if your opinion matters," she scoffed and turned on the radio.
"My car. My rules." He turned it off.
"Stop." She swatted his hand away. "Focus on your driving."
"I will if we don't sing," he remarked.
"Can you both stop." Stefan moved to the middle seat, poking his head in between them but neither listened to him as they continued to argue.
"You're so boring. Elijah did carpool karaoke with me," Evelyn said.
"He did what?!" Klaus exclaimed.
"Are you deaf? Has the old age been getting to you?" She snapped as she moved Stefan's head back to keep facing Klaus.
"I can perfectly hear," he argued back.
"Kill joy," Evelyn remarked. "Stefan and I always do carpool karaoke. Right Stef?" She glanced at him who wanted to be anywhere but here.
"You didn't have to mention that," he murmured to Evelyn, feeling embarrassed that she blurted it out.
"Oh. Sorry," she whispered with a sheepish smile. "But back me up here."
"It's not happening," Klaus interrupted them.
"Fine," she huffed, crossing her arms over her chest. "This is exactly why you're such a grandpa."
A few minutes passed by and Klaus quickly looked at Evelyn which she caught. "What are you looking at, grandpa Kevin?"
He pinched the bridge of his nose. "Fine. Turn on the radio."
Evelyn eyes lit up, turning it on. "Oh my God! It's our favourite song, Stefan," she squealed. "Are you ready?" Stefan took a deep breath, not having the power in him to say no to her.
But he mumbled the lyrics ever so quietly as Evelyn sang loudly. "Come on, Nik! Sing with us!" She cheered him on.
Klaus took a deep breath. What have I gotten myself into?
ββββββββββ
"I don't understand why you need to follow me. You could've stayed in the car. I'm not going to run away," Evelyn rolled her eyes when Klaus trailed behind her inside the gas station. "I only threatened you once, Nik and it was a joke too. Don't you trust me?"
"I do trust you." He took the snacks off her to hold them.
"Then why are you always following me like a puppy then?" She asked.
"I am not a puppy," he whispered to her, embarrassed when a woman walked past by, giving him a look.
Evelyn eyed him and nodded. "I guess you're right. Puppy's are cute," she remarked and walked away from him.Β
Klaus gave the side of her hip a gentle pinch and she jumped, slapping his hand away. "I told you stop doing that."
"You don't listen to me either," he shrugged.
Evelyn huffed, turning back to the front and continued to buy more snacks with Klaus holding it all for her.
"What do you think?" Evelyn asked Klaus as she tried on a pair of sunglasses.
"They're just sunglasses," he said.
"Always grumpy," she tutted.
"And you're always hyper," Klaus murmured.
"There's no men or unisex glasses." She searched for them. "Oh wait, you can try these on." She found a pair of children sunglasses and Klaus shook his head, horrified.
"It has Spiderman on it!" He exclaimed.
"I love Spiderman. You'll look great in them. Come here." She motioned him to come forward but he didn't.
"Put them away now," he ordered.
"I just want to see how you look." She placed them over his eyes. "There. Aww you look pretty."
"Don't call me pretty."
"Pretty," she repeated.
"Evelyn," he warned.
"Let's take a picture," she ignored him. "Pose for me. Put a hand on your hip and pout."
"No." He blocked the camera with his hand.
"Why not? You look good in them," she said but he didn't give in.
"No."
"You're so boring." She walked towards the counter and looked over her shoulder, laughing to see he still had the shades on.
"Why are you laughing?" He asked then noticed himself. "Oh bloody hell." He took them off aggressively and shoved them inside a shelf.
She took the snacks off his hand and placed them on the counter. "Hi," she smiled at the man who was serving them.
"Nik?" Evelyn turned back to Klaus.
"What?"
"I almost forgot about my lemonade," she said and he nodded, walking away to get them.
When he returned back, he found Evelyn laughing with the man who had been telling her a joke. "You just made my day," Evelyn smiled.
"Your day just started," Klaus scoffed with a bitter tone.
Slamming the cans of lemonade on the counter, Klaus stood in front of Evelyn, blocking her from speaking to the man. "Be quick. I don't have all day."
"Rude. I was speaking to the lovely gentleman," Evelyn instead moved next to Klaus, continuing to speak and laugh with him.
What was so funny that made her laugh? Klaus eyed them both especially at the way Evelyn was smiling widely.
"Hurry up!" He broke their conversation, having the urge to do more that would involve snapping the man's neck if Evelyn wasn't standing next to him.
Evelyn frowned, looking at him. "Nik," she scolded him with a whisper. "I am sorry about him. He's just in a mood and thinks he can bark orders to anyone."
Bark? Klaus glared at Evelyn and she sent him an innocent smile.
"It's okay," the man replied back, handing Evelyn the bag.
"Thank you! And it was nice meeting you," she said.
Heading towards the door, she hadn't noticed Klaus was compelling the man to give the food for free then grabbing the back of his neck and nearly bashing his head on the counter.
"Nik." Klaus quickly let go as he glanced over to Evelyn who turned around just in time to miss what he did.
"Would you like anything else?" He asked.
"Nope, but can I drive now?" She asked as they walked out of the store.
"Not happening."
"Why not?"
"Because I don't want you to."
"Then don't expect to have any of the snacks. It's only for me and Stefan," she scoffed.
"I paid for them," he said.
"Guess what? Life is not fair. Deal with it," she remarked with a sarcastic smile.
"And here we go again," Stefan mumbled as he watched back and forth curiously inside the car.
Evelyn was raising her voice at him, pointing a finger towards him too while Klaus did his best to keep a control on his own temper, glaring down at her.
ββββββββββ
"This is so boring. Why are wolves so hard to find?" Evelyn groaned with Klaus leaning against the car whilst they were waiting for Stefan who had been sent by him to search for the wolf in a neighbourhood nearby.
He watched as Evelyn twirled around, waving her arms in the air when she stumbled on her own feet once again. He sighed, speeding towards her and caught her in his arms. "I know. I'm clumsy," she laughed.
"For someone who dances you're very clumsy," he remarked with a shake of his head.
"Hey! I'm actually one of the best students and tutor the academy has," she defended herself.
She hadn't realised that Klaus' hands were still on her hips as he gave it a gentle squeeze and soothingly rubbed circles against them whilst he listened to her.
"And the kids adore me whenever they have a class with me," she proudly told him.
"I don't doubt that."
Evelyn then sat on top of the hood of the car. "Let's play a game," she said.
"I'm not playing a game," he said.
"Why? Are you scared you're going to lose," she mocked him.
"What do I get if I win?" He instead asked.
She laughed, a mocking tone. "Are you that confident you'll win?"
He shrugged. "I always win."
"So do I," Evelyn proudly said.
"I get to have your ice cream if I win," Klaus said. Evelyn was about to protest but he gave her a look making her sigh in defeat.
"If I win you have to watch all of the Disney movies with me and sing too," she smiled playfully.
"No." His eyes widened with a shake of his head. "Anything else but that."
"Put on face masks then." That was even worse.
"Disney movies it is then," he sighed. "No singing."
"Yes," she stubbornly nodded.
"You haven't even won the game yet." He pointed out.
"I know i'm going to win," she confidently said.
"Oh yeah?" He humoured and she nodded. "What are we playing then?"
"Umβ I haven't really thought about that," she murmured, giving him a sheepish smile and he rolled his eyes.
"Wait! Staring contest."
"Fine," Klaus faced her.
"I'm so going to win," Evelyn rubbed her hands together.
"We'll see about that," he remarked dryly.
She shut her eyes, counting down. "3... 2... 1. Go." She opened them and stared into his eyes.
Klaus smirked, leaning down and resting his hands on either side of her so his eyes were levelled with hers, his face almost too close to hers, forming a weird feeling in her stomach but she composed herself.
Now that he was closer to her, he could see the light flecks of purple in her emerald eyes and she could see how stunning his blue eyes were, both of their eyes held a mischievous glint.
"Just give up. You're going to lose," she said.
"I can see tears in your eyes," he teased.
"There's someone behind you," she briefly glanced behind him.
"Nice try."
She squinted her eyes and he almost believed that she would blink. "You have an ugly nose," she said.
"I do not," he rebuked. "You have a crooked smile."
"Is that supposed to make me cry?" Evelyn mocked.
"It looks like you are." He moved closer.
She giggled as her fingers lightly danced under his chin and he gave her a look, swatting her hand away. 'That won't work."
Klaus watched with amusement when Evelyn used her hand to push back her hair, pouting that the loose strand wouldn't stay in place. He reached out to tuck it behind her ear.
"That won't work with me either." She removed his hand away too, without realising she was keeping a hold on to his hands with hers.
"Give up," he said.
"Nope. I can do this all day," Evelyn said.
She smiled, resting her hands against her cheek and he used this opportunity, bringing his hands near her waist and tickled her. She squealed, throwing her arms around his neck and before she could fall, he held on to her.
"You distracted me!" She gasped and hit his shoulder although it didn't hurt him. "Cheater."Β Β
He set her down on the ground, chuckling and taking a step back when she took a step forward, a raging glare on her face. "You never set any rules," he said.
"You cheated. Now you're definitely going to watch all of the Disney movies and apply face masks with me."
"No. You just can't accept that I won."
But their playful act was over when Klaus changed his soft expression that was just for Evelyn to his usual stoic gaze when Stefan had approached them.
"Well?" Klaus anticipated.
"There's no Ray here," Stefan answered.
Klaus sighed and went inside the car. Stefan looked at Evelyn who had been sulking the whole time. "What's wrong?"
"Nik is a cheater," Evelyn huffed and headed towards the car. Stefan raised a brow in confusion.
"Huh?"
ββββββββββ
"Are you going to ignore me all day?" Klaus asked Evelyn who had been reading a menu in a restaurant they stopped by to eat.
"Are you going to admit you're a sore loser?" She asked with her eyes still fixated on the menu.
"I'm a loser," he drawled out with a roll of his eyes.
"And a cheater," she added.
"I'm a loser and a cheater."
"And Eve is always right," she smiled.
"Not always," he muttered.
"Mind repeating that again?"
"You're always right."
Evelyn nodded. "And you're a egotistical, ancient hybridβ"
"That's enough," he cut her off and she laughed.
"Why is this menu so healthy? All I see is green things." She scrunched up her nose.
Stefan sat back down, opposite them. "Have you decided what you want to get, Evie?"
"Yes. I'm going to get the lasagna," Evelyn nodded. "And a strawberry lemonade."
They placed their order with Klaus discussing about his next plan to find the wolf pack but Stefan zoned out as soon as he spoke and Evelyn as usual never listened to him.Β
She absently fiddled with the sleeve of Klaus' jacket that he was wearing and took a glance around her surroundings, feeling uneasy with the atmosphere.
Especially when the restaurant began to get quiet and almost everyone left with only a few remaining. Her eyes caught the owners, staring at them before he quickly looked away.
Her body stiffened and Klaus noticed that, watching her head turn around constantly so he followed her movements.
"Nik," she whispered as she shifted closer to him, feeling paranoid and frightened.
"I know, love." He kept his eyes on the few people that were still sat in the restaurant with them, occasionally glancing over at their table.
"What's going on?" Stefan asked.
"Hunters," Klaus said as he took a sip of his drink and Stefan tensed in his seat.
"I think this place is also owned by them," Evelyn murmured. "How do they know you're vampires? Oh no." She was beginning to panic.
Klaus turned to Evelyn. "Go back to the car."
"But my food just arrived. I'm so hungry," she whispered.
"Then take the plate with you and eat in the car. Don't come back here," he whispered back.
"But I also want to help you two. I have my pepper sprays." She gestured to her bag.
"It's okay. We can handle it," Stefan reassured her with a smile.
"Are you sure? I can give them nosebleeds," she offered. "Ask Nik. I give good ones."
"I'm going to kill them," Klaus gritted when he narrowed his eyes at them. "Leave," he ordered Evelyn in a low tone.
"Okay." She began to stand up, ready to take her plate to the car but a loud bang caused her to flinch. "Oh come on! I only came here to eat!" She waved her arms in the air, finding Klaus and Stefan fighting the hunters already.
"That was very rude of you!" She pointed at a hunter who shot past her. "Not my head!"
Klaus grabbed a hold of her waist and sped towards a safe place away from the fight. "Stay here," he demanded as he made her sit down in a kitchen.
"My food," she complained. He sighed and in a blur the plate was placed in front of her. "You forgot about my lemonade too." He rolled his eyes and left her in the kitchen to get it.
A hunter approached him and Klaus grabbed him by the neck, lifting him up and glared at him. "My girl needs her drink so you're going to have give me a second before I can kill you and I really don't want to show her a bloody hand when I tear your heart out."
He smiled sarcastically, throwing him against a wall and walked back into the kitchen where Evelyn was enjoying her time eating. "Thank you." She took a sip of it.
"Nik, wait." She ran over to him, placing her blue pepper spray into his hand. "I thought you might need this. Good luck." She patted him on his chest.
He shook his head in disbelief but kept it with him. "Don't leave." He shut the door, making sure no one could enter and hurt her.
Evelyn tuned out their fighting as she switched on her phone and began watching the Avengers whilst eating her food.
ββββββββββ
Once Evelyn finished eating, she opened up the door, peeking her head in. "I've finished eating. Are you guys done fighting?!"
"No!" Klaus and Stefan shouted back.
"Are you sure you don't need help?"
"We're fine here, Eve. Don't come out." Evelyn winced when she heard a horrific scream.
"Oh okay." She shut the door and roamed around the kitchen.
Her eyes lit up when she found a chocolate cake, resting on the countertop. "I guess I do have room for dessert," she smiled giddily.
As soon as she turned around, she yelped when a figure stood in front causing her to drop the cake on the floor, now ruined for her to eat. "Excuse me?! Who the hell do you think are? That was a freshly baked cake and it's all gone to waste now!" She glared at the hunter.
She gasped when he harshly pushed her against a wall, a gun directly pointed to her heart and she furrowed her brows.
"I should be pointing that gun at you for ruining my dessert. Dumbass." She kneed the man and he loosened his grip on the gun.
"Asshole." She twisted his arm, pinning it behind him. "Bitch." She kneed him on his face this time.
She let go of him and ran away but he caught up to her, refusing to let her out. "Hey, how about we have a nice little chat. Let's not fight," she nervously laughed. "I get angry sometimes so don't take it personally although you did waste food and that was very ignorant of you. Be grateful we have food on our plates," she scolded him.
"Oh man. I gave my spray to Nik." Taking a step back, she discreetly grabbed a pan behind her to defend herself.
"Please don't make me do this," Evelyn said as the hunter moved closer. "I'm sorry but you asked for it." She struck the pan directly on his face and the man yelled in pain.
"I'm just trying to defend myself," she shrugged.
"And please stop coughing up blood on my dress, turn the other way and cough. Do you know how expensive this dress was?" She tried to turn him around but he pushed her back.
"You bitch." He cursed her, grabbing his gun from floor and unloaded it to shoot her.
"I'm not a vampire, dickhead! Stop pointing the crossbow gun thingy at me," she scolded.
"Huh?"
"I wish I knew what I was but I have powers and my eyes glow purple too," she casually conversed with him.
"What?" He lowered his gun.
"I was distracting you." She hit him again with the pan and he groaned in immense pain. "Unfortunately my powers reveal on their own."
"Oh?" When he didn't move a limb. "Have I finally murdered someone? Oh shit. Nik! Stefan! I think I committed murder!"
The man mumbled something under his breath. "Actually he's not dead! He's still breathing! You both do your thing over there. I'm fine here!" She blew out a breath.
"Stop moving." She shoved him back down on the ground with her feet and stepped over him. "I'm so thirsty." She took a sip from her lemonade and sat on the countertop, eyeing the unconscious man.
As she kept an eye to make sure he didn't wake up, she felt a hand touch her shoulder and she jumped up, lifting the pan up and struck at the other intruder.
"Bloody hell woman!" Klaus winced when the pan hit his jaw and Evelyn gasped with wide eyes.
"Why are you always hitting me? I didn't even do anything this time." He looked at her with wide eyes too, completely shocked at her outburst.
She panicked, "Sorry! The hunter. The pan. I thought it was another one. Defending myself."
"Put that down," Klaus rubbed at his jaw and eyed the pan that was still on her hand.
"Oh right." She set it down and moved towards him. "I didn't mean to hit you."
Evelyn reached out to touch his face and Klaus moaned softly when she gently rubbed his jaw, looking at him with worry in her eyes. "Does it still hurt?"
"Yeah," Klaus nodded, pretending to wince so she could tend to him more.
"I'm so sorry," she whispered when she placed her hands on both sides of his face.
"It's okay." He leaned into her touch, trying his best to not smile.
"Feel better?"
"You're bleeding, love." Her once perfect summer dress was stained with blood and her hair was a slight mess. "Where are you hurt?" He placed his hand under chin, eyes searching her face and body for any injury.
"It's not my blood," she reassured him and he nodded with relief. "But he's bleeding a lot." She pointed towards the hunter was who still on the ground a few feet away from them.
"You did that?" He asked, a proud smile curving on his lips.
"Yes, but he's not dead. I didn't commit murder," she rambled. "But I think he's going to die. Oh Nik, I think i've killed him."
Klaus toed the man over onto his back and tilted his head, looking back at Evelyn who was biting on her knuckles, feeling anxious. "Turn around," he said.
"Why?"
"I'm going to kill him," he simply stated.
"Nikβ"
"No i'm not letting him live. He was going to kill you so now i'm going to kill him," he said with a clenched jaw. "Turn around and cover your ears."
"Oβ Okay. Got it. Cool. I mean not cool," she whispered and faced her back to him. Closing her eyes and covering her ears, he ripped the heart out of the body and threw it on the floor.
Stefan entered the room and quickly rushed to Evelyn. "Eve, you're hurt." He took notice of her dress too.
"It's not mine," she quickly explained the situation and he sighed, pulling her into a hug.
"So what's going to happen now?" Evelyn asked Klaus as he wiped the blood off his hand.
His eyes met Stefan's. "Burn the place," he ordered and Stefan nodded, leaving them.
"Come on, love," Klaus offered his hand to her and she took it, letting him intertwine his fingers with hers.
"This is so gross." Evelyn had the urge to vomit when she caught a glimpse of splatters of blood everywhere in the room.
Klaus covered her eyes with one hand and the other still holding hers as he guided her out. "Oh my God. I think I stepped on someone's heart and i'm wearing sandals, Nik!" She cried out. "I think i'm going to throw up and faint."
He lifted her up in his arms and made her bury her face in the crook of his neck. "Don't look until I tell you too."
"Okay," she mumbled against him. "Did you use the pepper spray?"
"Yes," he lied.
"See, i told you it was useful."
"Very useful," he smiled when she held on to him tightly.
"If you ever need to borrow any of them just let me know," she said.
"I will," he lied again.
ββββββββββ
Evelyn eyes snapped open, covered in a cold sweat, shaking, her heart pounding rapidly as she woke up that night. She took a glance around the room, suspicious and paranoid that the horror may have followed her here.
It was of that chilling voice again. Her voice. But a face she still couldn't see.
She got up cautiously, shivering and rubbed her head and eyes, trying to fully awaken herself. Stumbling to the bathroom, she looked in the mirror slowly, cautious, as if not sure of what she'll see.
She blinked twice, trying to stop the tears from falling. It was only a nightmare. She repeated the words to herself. Only a nightmare.
Removing her clothes, she stepped inside the shower and allowed the cool water to ease the pain and ache she endured in her nightmare whilst taking deep breaths just like her mother taught her to.
She slipped on a sweatshirt, which she had stole from her brother and left her room.
Walking into the kitchen, she opened the fridge, and a smile curved on her lips when she found a stack of ice cream tubs. Remembering Klaus had already stocked up for her and laughed quietly.
She took one out and made her way towards the living room, stopping by the large window and looked up at the glistening stars. "Hi mom and dad," she whispered with a smile.
Walking over to the couch, she settled herself on the carpeted floor and leaned back on the foot of the couch, watching the ignited flames on the fireplace dance as she ate her ice cream peacefully.
"Couldn't sleep?"
Evelyn's head tilted to the side and there she saw, a shirtless Klaus sitting on a chair in the far corner of the room, a sketchpad on one hand and a glass of whiskey in the other. Her mouth was hung open slightly as she took in his form when he stood up. His abs were on full display and the sweatpants he was wearing were hung low, showing off his v line.
Fuck me.
Shut up Eve!
Then her eyes drifted to the tattoos on his left shoulder but her curiosity was fixed on a particular one that looked like a bird, a dove maybe? on his upper arm but she loved them all on him. She never was a fan of tattoos, but today her mind changed on that.
Rest in peace Eve.
Cause of death: staring at a shirtless Nik with grey sweatpants.
She shook the thought off and cursed herself.
"May I?" He stood in front of her, a smug smile plastered on his face.
Well done, Eve. You just embarrassed yourself.
"Umβ sure." She made some space for him and he sat besides her, immediately surrounded by his masculine scent that she grown to like.
"So what's your excuse?" Klaus asked and Evelyn took another bite of her ice cream before answering him.
"Just couldn't sleep," she shrugged.
"Is that all?" He raised an eyebrow, knowing there was a reason why she would be up late at night. Again.
Evelyn sighed, placing the tub on the coffee table in front of them and played with the hem of her hoodie.
"Nightmares," she whispered.
"Would you like to talk about it?" He asked softly.
"No." She immediately shook her head. He could tell whatever it was, frightened her a lot to a point she was afraid to talk about it.
He nodded, letting it slip for now. He still needed to work on gaining her trust so he didn't push her any further that night.
Instead they sat in a comfortable silence watching the fire as Evelyn finished eating her ice cream and Klaus would glance at her every now and then, wanting nothing more than to hold her in his arms.
She stood up, making him look at her as she walked towards the balcony. She glanced over her shoulder, giving him a smile. "Are you coming then?"
Klaus stared at her, processing her words and found himself standing up as he followed her out to the balcony.
Sitting besides her on the porch swing that was set outside of the balcony, Evelyn sighed when the warm breeze hit her, letting the silence consume her thoughts.
She glanced up at the starry sky. "I don't think I could ever get tired of looking at the stars." A faint smile appeared on her face. "It's so beautiful."
"It is." Her eyes met Klaus' as he gave her a small yet a warm smile that made her feel safe.
"There are like little lights of hope existing in the darkness," she said and he listened to her every word, finding her voice calming.
"I find that hard to believe," Klaus murmured to himself.
"You'll find it. You just need to be patient," she told him.
Before she consumed herself in him, Evelyn looked away from his eyes, and back to the stars.
He smiled when moments later, Evelyn had her eyes closed and her head falling to the side as she tried her best to not fall asleep.
"I'm awake," she told him.
"Mhm," he held back in the laughter as she once again closed her eyes again.
He felt her head slowly resting on his shoulder and tensed for a second. When she didn't make a move away from him, he wrapped his arm around her and she laid her head against his chest, snuggling further and loving the warmth that emitted from him.
"We'll start our Disney movie marathon tomorrow. I'm so tired," she mumbled. He chuckled, the vibrations of his deep laughter making her smile lazily.
"I did cheat," he confessed. "You won."
He looked down at her when he realised that she hadn't moved in a while. She was asleep with one hand still gripping on to his, intertwined, which he hadn't noticed himself. He hoped that she would slowly feel just as comfortable like today.
Slipping his arms beneath her, he cradled her close to his chest, being careful not to wake her up and began to stand up to take her back to her room. Evelyn wrapped her arms around his neck and tightened them in her sleep state, burying her face in his neck.
He made his way into her room and laid her down on her bed as she let out a small sigh whilst he covered her with the blanket.Β
"Nik," she mumbled when Klaus was about to leave her room.
"Yes," he responded softly, lightly brushing the hair out of her face.
"Can you please turn on the lamp?" She asked and Klaus raised a brow, keeping a note of how ever since they arrived she would leave her lamp on.
He shook off his thoughts for now and turned the lamp on for her. "Good night, my love."
"Good night," Evelyn murmured back.
Leaving her room, Klaus' thoughts drifted away to the one thing he wanted to tell her but was too much of a coward to do so.
He knew she would hate him more and she had every right to. Yet he wasn't ready to face that now.
And one day, when he built up the courage, he would tell her.
So he instead let her believe what she saw in front of her. A cruel man who took her away from her family for his own selfish needs.
Because Klaus was more afraid to tell Evelyn she was soulmates to a monster.
