━━━━━━━━━━

Streaks of the golden sunlight peered through the curtains and awaited entrance into Evelyn's eyes, awakening her from the deep slumber. Sighing heavily, she lay still with her eyes still closed and listened to the rhythmic chirps. The birds were calling to one another in that beautiful melody they do as if they had collectively been waiting for the first to call into the dawn. The sound brought a calmness to her mind, a soothing lullaby.

Tilting her head towards the first rays of the day and taking in the morning beauty, she allowed the warmth to soak in her skin smiling as daylight arrived as it promised the night before.

Sight still partially in the clutches of the night's glue, she slowly rubbed the dream away.

Dreams of him

Waking up can be really harsh, especially if your dreams are better than reality.

That's what Evelyn had felt right now

It felt too real. As though that was her world, where she belonged, a place filled with just peace and contentment.

And it was the first time in a very long time Evelyn had not experienced a nightmare, desperately wishing it would always remain like that in every sleep.

But the memory of her dream faded and she was left with this lonely feeling of detachment, left to explore the empty void of emotions. If only that glimmer of happiness was true but she knew that was too good to be true. You don't always get what you want.

Especially in the life of Evelyn Gilbert.

"EJ!" Jeremy startled her when he slammed the door open to her room, running inside.

"Jeremy!" Evelyn groaned, burying her face in her hands, "I was having a moment here."

Jeremy shrugged, " I don't care. Make me breakfast." Evelyn turned to face him, a glare fixated on her eyes.

"Do you mind repeating that again," she spoke in a low tone.

"I– I said i'll make breakfast for us," he slowly stepped back when Evelyn moved to get up.

"I'm not your servant, idiot," she threw her pillow toward his direction only to miss it.

"You're the idiot. You can't even throw," Jeremy laughed and Evelyn threw the duvet cover off her body, her feet harshly touching the ground and followed him with the pillow in her hand.

"I'm joking!" Jeremy cried out, "Elena help me!"

"No!" Elena shouted back from her room.

Evelyn smiled, laughing at her siblings who were now bickering with each other.

And just like that, her not so normal day began.

━━━━━━━━━━

"Jeremy made you breakfast," Elena told Evelyn. "But he left as soon as he heard you coming downstairs."

The smile on Evelyn's face turned into a frown when she looked down at her plate, scowling when she lifted her hand up to show Elena. "He burnt my pancakes!"

"That explains why he left," Elena laughed. "I'll make more for you."

Evelyn propped herself on top of the counter, "I love you so much."

"So you only love me just because i'm making you pancakes?" Elena raised a brow at her twin as she continued to make the pancake batter.

Evelyn gave her an innocent smile. "Pretty much," she nodded and laughed when Elena threw some flour at her.

"Hey!" Evelyn whined when she removed the flour from her hair.

"You coming to the hospital with me?" Elena asked. "Alaric stayed the night to look after Jenna."

"Yeah," Evelyn sighed, sadness now replaced in her tone.

Jenna had been compelled by Katherine to stab herself in the stomach because Elena and Stefan had refused to listen to the vampire when she told them to break up and in return, Jenna was the victim.

After a moment of thinking, Evelyn spoke up, "S0," she drawled out as she tilted her head to look at Elena.

Her sister faced her now, raising an eyebrow and sighed knowing exactly what she was going to ask, "Go on."

"How are you feeling? After you know, Stefan. The breakup," Evelyn trailed off.

"I'm fine, Eve," Elena shrugged it off. "It's for the best. It's my fault that Katherine compelled Jenna to stab herself and I can't let her hurt you or Jeremy too if Stefan and I are still together."

Evelyn gave her sister a sad smile, "It's–" she paused, sensing that Elena no longer wanted to talk about her breakup with Stefan. She then jumped off the counter and raised her arms towards her, "I think you need one of my special hugs."

Elena almost teared up, happy that she would always have sister by her side, "Yeah." The twins embraced each other in a warm hug.

They heard the front door open, "Elena, has EJ gone?" Jeremy stepped inside.

"You're dead!" Evelyn pulled away from Elena and ran after Jeremy.

"They were edible enough to eat!" Jeremy slammed the door shut and ran back outside.

━━━━━━━━━━

Evelyn gently brushed the strand of curl away from Jenna's face, who had been laying on the hospital bed as her aunt fluttered her eyes open, giving Evelyn a lazy smile. "Hey, Evie."

"Hi, aunt J," Evelyn smiled back, trying to hold back in the tears when the memories of last night flooded back into her mind.

She could've lost Jenna. The only parent figure she had left.

"I'm fine, Evie," Jenna reached out to grab her hand and gave it a gentle squeeze.

Evelyn sighed, bringing their hands to her lips and pressed a kiss to the back of Jenna's hand, "I know but that won't stop me from worrying."

"A horrible mess you were dragged in," she murmured under her breath.

"Can you believe it? I walked into a knife. How does somebody do that?" Jenna laughed and Evelyn nervously joined in.

"What matters more is that you're well and alive. I honestly don't know what i'd do without you aunt J," Evelyn smiled, relieved that the stabbing wasn't fatal.

"You'd be hopeless without me," Jenna sassed.

"I most definitely would be," Evelyn nodded.

She frowned, ignoring the negative thoughts away from her mind. Jenna is still here. It's going to be okay.

"You need to eat," she took a container out from a plastic bag that had been placed beside them on the table. "I made your favourite."

Jenna inhaled the delicious scent of creamy chicken alfredo pasta when Evelyn opened up the lid. "Finally real food!" Jenna cheered. "The hospital food is horrible here," she scrunched her face in disgust.

"Here," Evelyn smiled, raising the fork towards her lips to feed her.

"I am capable of feeding myself you know," Jenna said and Evelyn shrugged, dismissing it.

Jenna rolled her eyes and took a bite of the pasta. "I feel like an invalid," she huffed in frustration.

"At least you are in bed rest," Evelyn remarked. "Eat."

"You're more of a mom than I am," the pair shared a laugh. "Wanna switch roles?" Jenna asked.

━━━━━━━━━━

Fumbling for her car keys in her bag, Evelyn had her phone pressed against her ear and shoulder to support it, "Damon, this is an emergency!"

"What's the emergency? Where are you?" Damon asked, ready to leave the house.

"Please tell me you have ice cream. There's none at my house."

"Is this girl serious?" He mumbled under his breath.

"Yes I am actually,"

"You called me for that?" He asked, pinching the bridge of his nose. "You had me worried. I thought you got hurt."

"Well my stomach is. It needs to be fed ice cream right now," her tone was full of demand.

"No it doesn't," Damon mumbled to himself.

"And I went to the store and they have the fruity flavours and that's not ice cream. I don't do healthy," she threw her bag in the passenger seat of the car. "Do you have any then?"

"Yeah, I have a huge stock of ice cream just for you," Damon sighed.

"Oh that's so nice of you," Evelyn smiled.

"You forced me to," he answered.

"I would never do that to you," she faked a gasp.

"Yes you did, now what do I get in return?"

"Isn't my presence enough for you?" She asked. "Why can't you just be grateful for that?"

"I am! But I went out of my way to buy you a stock that could last you for a lifetime," he exaggerated.

She rolled her eyes, "Fine. You can have the ice cream. Only a little bit though."

"You're lying."

"I'm not."

"Really? You're sharing your ice cream with me?"

"Yeah."

━━━━━━━━━━

"No," Evelyn moved away from Damon, holding the tub of ice cream tightly in her hand.

"But you said I can have it," Damon followed her around.

"But I didn't promise and I changed my mind on the way," she pointed out and he rolled his eyes.

"Come on, just let me have a little bit," Damon pleaded.

"No," she scoffed. "And don't even think of getting one. You said yourself they're all mine."

"Meanie," Damon frowned, crossing his arms over his chest.

"What made you even think I would actually share with you?" She laughed, her eyes fixated on the TV show she was watching.

"Because you love me," he stated.

"Do I really though?" She smirked and he used his vamp speed, snatching the tub off her and ran away.

"You piece of shit," she hissed, chasing him around the house but failed to do so with his ability to vamp speed. "Demon Salvawhore if you don't give it back I will end this friendship right now!" She threatened him.

In a blur, he appeared in front of her, "I'm sorry." He quickly returned the tub back and she cheered in victory.

"You better be," she took a bite, giving him an innocent smile.

"Why do I always fall for it?" He groaned and she laughed, sitting on the counter top and rocking her legs back and forth.

"Oh this is so delicious. You can really taste the chocolate brownie in this. Do you want some?" Evelyn asked and he nodded. "I think not," she took another bite and he scowled.

"Why am I friends with you again?" He asked.

"Because you begged me to," she said. "Oh Eve, I'm lonely. Please be my friend. I'll do whatever you want me to do just be my friend."

"That's not true," he scoffed.

"Yes it is," she giggled, nodding her head. "You'll be friendless without me and don't even deny it."

"I have more friends than just you," he rebuked at her.

"Damon, you now have a thing called a life because of me and look how fun it is for you being a friend of Evelyn's," she gave him a pat on the shoulder.

"When did you become so mean?"

"It's telling the truth actually, are you going to cry now?" Evelyn sassed.

"Damon?!" A voice called out his name.

He groaned when it was Caroline calling him, "Damn it. What does blondie want now."

Evelyn smacked the back of his head. "I swear your slaps hurt more than anything in this world," he rubbed his head and she rolled her eyes.

"We're in here, Care bear," Evelyn called her and the blonde vampire stepped inside the kitchen. "What's wrong?" She asked, noticing the frightened expression on the blonde's face.

"I saw Katherine."

━━━━━━━━━━

"Here," Damon handed Caroline a glass of blood to calm her nerves.

Evelyn stood behind her, massaging her shoulders to loosen her up. Caroline took the glass from Damon with shaky hands, "I'm still shaking."

Evelyn moved her hands up to caress her hair and keep her relaxed. "Does this feel better?" She asked Caroline.

"Yeah. Thank you," Caroline nodded.

"What happened?" Stefan strode into the parlour when Damon had called him after Caroline explained what happened after her encounter with Katherine.

"Stefano!" Evelyn beamed happily, running over to him and he gathered her in his arms when she embraced him in a hug.

"Hey, Eve," he laughed. "What was that for?"

"I just wanted to give you a hug because of you know–" Evelyn trailed off.

"We all know about the breakup," Caroline piped in.

Stefan rolled his eyes then looked back at Evelyn. "I'm not taking sides here and you're still my friend. I just wanted to let you know that," she reassured him.

"Thanks?" Stefan smiled and Evelyn rolled her eyes at him, smiling back at him.

"Why'd you call me?" Stefan asked Damon.

Evelyn and Damon shared a look with a hesitant Caroline and Damon smirked, "Go ahead, tell him." He looked back at Stefan, "You're gonna love this."

"I saw Katherine today." Caroline muttered and Stefan's eyes widened.

"Where?"

"At the Grill. I just stopped by to gawk and... quasi-stalk Matt," she stammered over her words.

Evelyn snickered a little but immediately covered it up with a cough. "Something got stuck in my throat," she made up an excuse when Caroline had glared at her.

"Skip the teen drama and get to it," Damon urged the newbie vampire.

"No. Let her tell the story, Damon," Evelyn scolded him.

Caroline sighed, "Then I had to pretend to use the bathroom. Even though I didn't really have to because I'm a doofus."

She went on to explain what message Katherine had told her to deliver. "What was the message?" Stefan asked.

Caroline bit her lip nervously, hesitating for a second, "Katherine said bring her the moonstone or she'll rip the town apart until it rains blood."

"Tell her the rest of it," Damon waved a hand to continue.

"Tonight. At the masquerade ball," Caroline finished.

"She wants to do it in public. Killing Mason threw her off guard," Stefan murmured.

"She's running scared," Damon shrugged. "What she did to Jenna was desperate. She's out of tricks."

"We can't underestimate her. We have to play this smarter than her," Stefan said.

"Can we just give her the moonstone so she will leave?" Evelyn asked, taking a seat besides Caroline. "I'm so done with all of this drama." She sighed.

Caroline wrapped her arm around Evelyn, comforting her as Evelyn snuggled closer to her.

"No, Katherine is not getting dick. I've had it. I'm gonna go to the masquerade ball and I'm gonna kill her, tonight," Damon said.

"You're not gonna kill her," Stefan said.

"Don't give me that goody-goody crap," Damon scoffed, sarcasm laced in his tone.

"You're not gonna kill her," Stefan repeated.

"Really?" Damon asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Because I am," Stefan stated and Damon's lips curved into a proud smile.

"Smartest thing you've ever said," Evelyn sassed.

Stefan jerked a little forward and she held the pillow in front of her face. "Jeez I was kidding. It's a joke Stefano," she giggled.

"You're getting more cheekier lately," Stefan pointed at her and she stuck out her tongue.

"Well now that's sorted out. I need a date," Damon's eyes met Evelyn's, her eyes immediately widening and shaking her head.

"No. Nope. Nada. Never."

Caroline turned to Evelyn as well. "Yes! I can do your hair and makeup," she clapped her hands excitedly. "And I wasn't asking. I'm doing it and you're going to this party."

"Just a second ago you were shaking and now you're clapping. Unbelievable," Evelyn scoffed.

Caroline gave her the puppy eyes, pouting. "No. That's my thing. You can't use that against me," Evelyn whined.

"Well is it working?" Caroline anticipated.

"Fine," Evelyn threw her hands up in the air then pointed toward Damon. "You owe me food then," she stood up from her seat.

"Deal," Damon shook her hand.

"In other words, ice cream," Stefan interrupted.

"Why are you always assuming it's ice cream? What if I want something else?" Evelyn asked, crossing her arms over her chest.

"What is it then?" Stefan asked, imitating her actions.

Evelyn began to open her mouth to say something then closed it back. "See I was right," he smirked.

"Whatever," she mumbled. "It's a new shop that's opening soon and I really want to check out the new flavours so i'm not going to waste the opportunity if Damon's going to pay for it. I'm getting free food okay?" She continued to ramble and they couldn't help but laugh at her.

She seemed to always be full of energy and optimistic.

Evelyn glanced down at her phone when it vibrated, reading the text she received. "Oops, I need to get Jenna from the hospital. They're discharging her now," she palm smacked her forehead.

"Bye Douchebag, Stefano and Care Bear," she waved them a goodbye and left.

"Bye!"

"Wait? Did she just call me Douchebag?" Damon asked.Β

"She's not wrong," Stefan shrugged.

━━━━━━━━━━

Carrying a grimoire in her hand, Bonnie stepped inside the boarding house. "Hey, I got Stefan's message," she told Caroline.

Stefan smiled when she stood in front of him, "Hey, you brought the grimoire, thank you."

Bonnie looked over to see Damon conversing intently with Alaric who was gesturing at a table of weapons. Evelyn pointed at one and Alaric showed her what it did.

"Can I try?" Evelyn asked Alaric.

"No," Damon quickly cut them off. "Did you forget what happened last time?"

One of the many things Evelyn was known for, it was being clumsy. A lot.

"It was by accident Damon," Evelyn mumbled.

Bonnie looked back at Stefan, "What's going on?"

"We're gonna kill Katherine," Jeremy informed her as he walked past her.

Before Stefan could say anything, the witch's eyes widened. "I can explain," he quickly intervened.

"Please," Bonnie said.

He hesitated to find an answer, "We're gonna kill Katherine." It was the only thing he could say.

"I take it back. You're not getting smarter," Evelyn told Stefan, giving him a cheeky smile when stood besides her.

He ruffled her hair when he reached out, and she scowled, smacking his hand away. "Stefano! Do you know how long it takes to get perfect curls?" She smoothed and fixed up her hair.

"Give me that," Evelyn reached out to take an arrow off Alaric.

"No!" Everyone said.

Evelyn looked up at Alaric. "Sorry, Eve," he shrugged.

They gathered around the table, listening to Alaric explain about his weapons. "This works with compressed air. The trigger mechanism is up here. I have two of these in a different size."

Evelyn was leaning against Damon and he had an arm around her, his cheek pressed against the top of her head and caressing her hair, gently.

"For you, I recommend this," Alaric showed Damon and Stefan a sleeve with mini wooden stakes attached. "It fits nicely under the jacket sleeve. You use the trigger when you're ready." He made one of the stakes release into his hand and then made a stabbing motion.

He caught the look on Damon's face. "You wanted me to show you how to kill a vampire," he reminded him and the vampire grimaced.

"That's so cool," Evelyn whispered in awe. "I want one," she mumbled to herself.

Everyone then moved away, conversing amongst each other. Evelyn still stood besides Alaric, smiling up at him. "What?" He asked.

"You're my favourite history teacher," Evelyn began to say.

"I'm the only history teacher you have," Alaric raised a brow and then caught on what she was doing. "You want to play with the crossbow," he stated.

"Please," she nodded.

Alaric looked around then back at Evelyn, "Here." He gave her one and she beamed happily taking it off him.

"Don't–" It was too late. Evelyn shot Damon on his ass. By accident.

"Who the hell shot me on my ass!" Damon scowled as he took the arrow out and hissed in pain, turning around to face them. Everyone else turned their heads to look as well.

Evelyn quickly gave it back to Alaric, moving away from him. "How dare you, Ric," she gasped.

"But–" Alaric frowned.

"Evelyn!"

"I'm sorry but your ass was in the way," Evelyn raised her hands up in defence giving him a sheepish smile.

━━━━━━

Damon and Stefan went over the plan once more when they all huddled around in the living room.

"Are you sure you guys don't want me there tonight?" Alaric asked.

"No, I need you to stay with Elena. I don't want her to know about this," Stefan said.

"Okay. Well, I'll make sure she doesn't leave my sight," Alaric nodded.

"Alright, if anybody wants to back out, I'll understand," Stefan nodded, looking around at everyone.

"Yeah. Cold feet speak now. I don't want this going wrong if someone chicken's out." Damon looked over at a particular person. "Caroline."

Evelyn elbowed his side, "Damon!"

"I won't," Caroline confidently spoke and rolled her eyes when Damon looked at her skeptically. "Look, she killed me. Fair's fair. As long as there's no werewolves running around."

"Oh, I took care of Mason," Damon smirked and Evelyn elbowed him again. "Stop that," he swatted her hand away.

"Then stop being arrogant and rude for once," she retorted and he rolled his eyes.

"As long as Tyler doesn't kill anyone, he won't turn," Jeremy interrupted Damon and Evelyn's bickering.

"I don't think Eve should go now," Stefan murmured. "I don't want you to get hurt."

"Stefan, I love you but i'm giving you 5 seconds to take those words back before I ruin that hero hair of yours," Evelyn warned him with a sweet smile.

Silence fell as everyone watched the two staring at each other.

"Okay!" Stefan moved back when Evelyn took a slight step forward.

"I taught her well," Damon proudly said.

Stefan then turned to Bonnie, "Bonnie? Are you with us?"

Bonnie slowly nodded, "But no one gets hurt."

"Except Katherine," Damon chimed in. "Tonight she gets a stake through her heart."

Evelyn raised her hand up, coughing to get their attention and Stefan sighed, "You don't have to do that, Eve." He then urged for her to speak.

"I don't want to sound like a kill joy but what if she doesn't get a stake through her heart?" Evelyn asked. They all gave her a look.

"Definitely a kill joy. I shouldn't have asked that," she mumbled, hiding half of her body behind Caroline.Β

━━━━━━

"Hey, do you think I have a doppelgΓ€nger?" Evelyn asked, laying on Caroline's bed. "What do you think she would be like? Would she be horrible?"

Bonnie and Caroline were too busy doing their makeup for the ball when Bonnie glanced over her shoulder to look at Evelyn. "Even if you did have a doppelgΓ€nger, I'm pretty sure she would be sweet just like you."

"I agree," Caroline nodded.

"Oh, thank you," Evelyn blushed.

She tuned out their conversation, fiddling with her fingers as her thoughts went back to her dreams.

"Eve?! You need to get changed." Caroline was now standing in front of her.

Bonnie noticed the frown on Evelyn's lips and confusion in her eyes, standing up as she now stood in front of her too. "What's wrong?" She tilted her chin up to make Evelyn look at her.

"Those weird dreams are back," Evelyn murmured.

Caroline raised an eyebrow then gave Bonnie a quick glance, their lips slowly turning into a smile as they sat on either side of her.

"The ones with your mysterious man?" Caroline wiggled her brows and a shy smile crept on Evelyn's face, nodding.

"The worst part is I don't even know how he looks, his face is always blurred," Evelyn groaned.

"You know there's always that saying. 'Dreams come true." Caroline said.

"Not true," Bonnie piped in.

"Shh," Caroline waved her off. "I'm just trying to be positive here."

Evelyn scoffed, shaking her head. "It would be a miracle but I doubt he'll ever come true. I'm staying single my whole life," she huffed and rested her head on Bonnie's shoulder.

"You never know," Caroline sang.

"Besides you'll always have us so you're not going to be single for the rest of your life," Bonnie smiled at Evelyn.

They both stood up finishing off their final touches and waited for Evelyn to get changed in her dress.

"What do you think?" Evelyn stepped out and twirled around in her dress.

"Marry me," Caroline smiled.

Evelyn laughed. "Well, you two look extra hot," she complimented her best friends.

"Thank you." They said.

"I think we should just ditch this ball and have a threesome instead," Evelyn teased.

She walked over to them now standing behind them, placing her hands on Bonnie's shoulder and kissing the top of her head. Caroline turned to Evelyn, giving her a cheeky smile and winking at her.

"You know I would love to."

They were interrupted by Caroline's phone as she glanced down at it. Stefan had sent her a message and she frowned, "We need to go now, Katherine's arrived at the Lockwood mansion."

"And you need to get dressed quickly," Bonnie pointed to Evelyn, and made her sit down.

"I feel special," Evelyn smiled when Caroline began to do her hair and Bonnie did her makeup.

━━━━━━

Damon led Evelyn inside the mansion with his arm around her waist, loud music playing from every corner and people dressed in their finest suits and dresses conversing with one another. The dance floor itself seemed to glisten and flash with the movement of the many people sweeping across it.

Scanning the crowd, Evelyn eyes caught Jeremy and Bonnie waiting for her. "See you in a bit," she told Damon and he nodded, both leaving to their separate ways.

Bonnie and Jeremy followed Evelyn up the stairs when she found an empty room. "This room could work," she took off her mask.

Bonnie nodded, "It's perfect."

Jeremy and Evelyn took out weapons that Alaric had given them from a bag and Evelyn went to place them in the bathroom for Damon and Stefan to find later. Bonnie sat down, flipping through the grimoire.

"Is that the spell book I read about in my family's old journal?" Evelyn asked, handing some weapons to Jeremy as her eyes flickered over to Bonnie.

"It's my ancestor, Emily's. The spell I'm doing here is similar to the one that sealed the vampires into the tomb," Bonnie explained.

Jeremy handed Evelyn the bag to hide next and she placed it inside a closet. "Can you do all the stuff that's in there?" He asked, coming over to sit next to Bonnie.

"I mean it takes practice. I've worked on some small spells. Spells that only do good. I don't want to know too much," Bonnie shook her head. "I don't particularly enjoy any of this, in case you haven't noticed."

Evelyn took the grimoire off Bonnie, trying to read the words, frowning when she felt uneasy with herself. She quickly gave it back to Bonnie and leaned a little back, rubbing at her temple whilst listening to the two talk.

"Yeah, but you're 100% witch, that is so cool," he smirked and Bonnie frowned.

"It's anything but cool. Did your family journals tell you what happened to Emily? Or what about my Grams? It never ends well for people like me."

Evelyn gave a look of sympathy for her friend. "If you feel that way, why help?" Jeremy asked.

Bonnie sighed, "Because I don't want anyone else getting hurt and I don't know how to stay out of it."

"We'll be by your side," Evelyn grabbed a hold of her hand and gave her a reassuring smile. "We're in this together," Bonnie nodded, smiling back.

Evelyn glanced down at her phone to see Elena had sent her a text message.

Lena:
where are you?

Evelyn panicked and made up whatever came in to her mind first.

Eve:
Damon begged me to watch
Titanic with him. He's in
the mood to cry.

━━━━━━

"We need to let Stefan and Damon know the room's ready." They walked back down the stairs and into the foyer with their masks on after hiding all the weapons away.

"I'm on it," Evelyn nodded.

Bonnie stopped to a halt, sensing something. "Do you feel that?" She asked them.

"What's the matter? Are you cold?" Jeremy asked.

"No." She walked towards a woman who had caught her attention. "Excuse me, do I know you?" She asked the woman, Lucy, who turned to face her.

Evelyn frowned when she felt something around the woman and couldn't understand why.

"No, I'm a plus one, I know no one, but it's a great party though," Lucy smiled at them then left the room.

"Are you okay?" Jeremy asked Bonnie.

"I just got a weird vibe," she frowned, however, Lucy had not been the only person she could sense. There was someone else in the room, more powerful but Bonnie couldn't decipher who else it was.

"Okay, I'll find Damon," Evelyn told them and walked away from them, feeling a little irritated with herself.

She scanned the crowd, glancing around for Damon and quickly taking a step back when someone walked past her, nearly bumping into her. "I'm sorry," Evelyn apologised.

The woman glanced over her shoulder and Evelyn eyed the woman. She was dressed in a backless dark green dress that hugged her curves, her red hair in perfect curls as she gave Evelyn a sly smile and disappeared into the crowd.

Evelyn raised a brow and shook off the thoughts, looking around to find Damon.

Yet this odd feeling was refusing to leave her.

She finally ran into Damon. "There you are," she breathed out.

"Come on my dance partner," he took her hand, leading her onto the dance floor. Evelyn laughed when Damon twirled her around.

"So is it done?" He asked as they slowly swayed to the music.

Katherine was across the room, her eyes on them, but there was no way she could hear them over the music coming from the speakers.

"Yeah," Evelyn nodded.

"You look beautiful cupcake," he smiled and placed a kiss to her forehead.

"I know," she gave him a cheeky smile.

"Don't boost your ego too much," he scoffed.

"Well I have been hanging out with you too much," she remarked playfully.

"Whatever," he rolled his eyes.

"And I must say you look handsome for a change," she tugged on his tie and gave him a pat on his chest.

"Keep lying to yourself. You know you want me," he smirked, tickling her sides and she jumped up slightly, a quiet giggle escaping her lips.

"In your dreams, Salvawhore," she said, trying to keep the false stern look on her face.

"I'm wounded," he dramatically gasped and she smiled.

Damon twirled her around and she laughed as he now pressed his chest to her back, wrapping his arms around her waist and swaying to the music.

Their eyes met Katherine's as Damon smirked at her and Evelyn gave her an awkward smile.

Evelyn turned back to face Damon and they continued to dance for a while.

"Go stay with Bonnie and Jeremy until this is over," Damon instructed and she nodded, kissing him on the cheek and he disappeared into the crowd.

Evelyn felt a pair of eyes staring behind her and turned to around to see Katherine staring at her. Katherine's lips curved into a smirk and she sent a confused Evelyn a wave, who quickly averted her eyes away and left.

Walking past another set of eyes that were also trained on her.

━━━━━━

"So can you do like a hocus pocus to ace a test?" Jeremy asked Bonnie.

Evelyn laughed, resting her head on his shoulder and he had his arm around his sister to keep her warm.

Bonnie shook her head, smiling, "I don't know that spell."

"It'd be like the first one I'd learn or maybe like a sex spell or something. I don't know," he chuckled.

Evelyn scrunched her face in disgust, poking Jeremy's cheek and he did the same to her.

"Do either of you want to dance or something while we're waiting?" He asked, looking at Evelyn first.

She shook her head, "No thanks. My feet are killing me." Glancing down at the heels that were on the ground besides her feet.

Jeremy turned to Bonnie, "No!" She quickly responded before shaking her head and Evelyn raised an amused eyebrow. "I mean, no thank you," she spoke in a softer tone.

Jeremy's phone vibrated and he glanced at it showing it to Evelyn and Bonnie. Now it was time to deliver the message to Katherine.

"Let's go," Evelyn slipped back on her heels and hooked her arms around Jeremy's as they made their way over to Katherine and Lucy.

"Elena," Evelyn took off her mask and Katherine turned around.

Jeremy also did the same then looked over to Lucy. "Hey sorry, could we talk to our sister?" He asked and she nodded, leaving them alone.

"What is it?" Katherine asked in sickly sweet tone.

"We have a message from Stefan and Damon," Jeremy said.

"Oh?" Katherine said, surprised.

"They want you to meet them at the edge of the lake by the woods. They brought the moonstone," Evelyn said.

"And why are you their little messengers?" She smirked.

"Because they know we are not afraid of you," Jeremy said.

"Hmm aren't you two courageous. How's John by the way? Were they able to sew his fingers back on?" Katherine tugged on Jeremy's tie.

Evelyn scowled, removing her hand away. "Don't touch him."

"Calm down," Katherine chuckled. She knew she couldn't harm Evelyn even a single scratch on her because if he found out then she would sure be a dead woman. Besides that, Evelyn was the most important key to her freedom if things didn't go as she planned to.

"You look beautiful, Eve," Katherine complimented with an almost genuine smile.

"Um– thanks Kit Kat," Evelyn awkwardly drawled out, still being the polite person she was.

"So do you," Evelyn said and quickly shook her head. "Actually I take that back. I think?" She mumbled.

Katherine rolled her eyes, leaving them and Evelyn turned to Jeremy. "Do you think I should've said she looked nice as well? Was I being too mean?"

"You weren't being mean," Jeremy reassured her with a smile.

He then pulled out his phone to text Damon but suddenly Elena caught both of her sibling's arm. "What the hell is going on?" She asked.

"Oh hey, Elena. Jeremy was going to join us to watch Titanic. I was just picking him up," Evelyn lied.

"Like this," Elena pointed to her dress.

"Oh– uh, this old thing is– it's my nightgown," Evelyn blurted out and Jeremy placed a hand on his face, rubbing it tiredly.

"You make up the worst excuses," Jeremy whispered to her.

"I'm sorry. I panicked." Evelyn whispered back to him.

"You guys are trying to kill her here?" Elena asked in disbelief.

"We saw an opportunity and we knew we had to take it," Jeremy explained calmly, but Elena wasn't having any of it.

"Okay, stop with the We," she told him. "Are you guys crazy? You could get yourselves killed."

"We know what we're doing, Elena," Bonnie said and Elena frowned.

"And how am I supposed to feel if one of you guys gets hurt because of me?" Elena said.

"It's not just you anymore, Elena," Jeremy spoke, shaking his head. "She's messed with all of us, she has to be stopped."

Evelyn nodded," I don't want to anyone to be hurt anymore, especially with what happened with aunt J."

Then all of a sudden Elena cried in pain. Evelyn, Bonnie and Jeremy gasped, seeing blood well up and soak the back of her top.

"Elena!" Evelyn took Elena in her arms. "What the hell is happening?!"

"It's Katherine! She's linked to Katherine!" Bonnie said. "Get them to stop! Now!"

Jeremy nodded and ran to where Damon and Stefan were, hoping he would get there in time to stop them from plunging a stake into Katherine and killing Elena.

Evelyn gently stroked Elena's hair. "Bonnie can you do anything?" She asked, her eyes begging for a solution.

"I can't break the spell, Eve," Bonnie sighed. "I'm so sorry, Elena but I can try and take some of the pain away. Okay?" Elena nodded and Bonnie began to chant a spell.

Minutes later, Jeremy came running up the path and skidded to a halt. "Are you okay?" He asked.

"Are they?" Elena asked weakly, looking up at him.

He nodded. "They're stuck in there with her," he said before looking at Bonnie. "You were right, Katherine had a witch link Elena to her."

Surprisingly, Evelyn had come to a realisation. "I– I think I know who it was," her eyes flickered to Jeremy then Bonnie.

Bonnie also nodded, "The woman I saw, the one inside." She stood up and nodded at Elena and Evelyn. "Stay with them, keep pressure on her shoulder," she told Jeremy.

"Where are you going?" He asked.

"There's another witch here, I'm gonna find her!" She called over her shoulder, running towards the mansion.

Jeremy knelt besides them, tugging his ring off. "No. Jer. Don't," Elena shook her head.

"You need this Elena," he said.

"No, what I need is for you to be safe," Elena whimpered in pain.

Jeremy glanced over at Evelyn and took her free hand in his, softly stroking the back of it. He mouthed an 'it's going to be okay' and she hesitantly nodded.

The spell was lifted and the Salvatore brothers captured Katherine placing her in the tomb.

Evelyn and Elena were walking towards the car, the older twin speaking to their brother on the phone.

"Yes Jer, I've got my car. Stop worrying," Evelyn assured him.

"I have to since I'm the man of the house," he said and the sisters laughed.

"Whatever helps you sleep at night," Evelyn said.

"I'm taking Bonnie home."

"Oh look who's acting like a bad boy with their with their driver's license now," she teased and heard him groan in annoyance.

"EJ!"

"I'm kidding. Me and Lena are going straight to bed," she told him and they said their goodbyes, ending the call.

"How are you feeling?" Evelyn wrapped an around Elena.

Elena leaned her head on her sister's shoulder, sighing, "I feel better now thanks to whatever Bonnie did."

"How did you know there was another witch?" Elena asked.

"I don't know. I just felt weird and paranoid around her," Evelyn shrugged, dismissing it.

While Evelyn was unlocking her car, she suddenly heard a faint sound and whirled around to see Elena lying limply against a masked man, who then pulled his hand away from her mouth, showing a cloth.

He dropped Elena on the floor and lunged at her. Evelyn on instinct kneed him and he groaned, staggering back. "Weirdo," she hissed at the man and kneed him once again on the nose.

"You hurt my knee now," Evelyn rubbed on her knee. "And do you know how expensive this dress was?" She gestured to herself.

Turning around, a hand was slapped over her mouth and stiffing her screams. Evelyn thrashed in their hold and then all went black, falling unconscious in the person's arm.

Now awaiting to shock an Original with the news of her existence.

Hey besties!

First chapters are always boring but
Evelyn is officially back!

As I mentioned this before, majority of the chapters will remain the same but i'll be adding more to the chapters, changing things around and improving on my writing style. The only difference is that the plot will be more detailed and intense so my baby will go through a lot. Be prepared.

The next chapter should hopefully be updated on the weekend. I will let you know on my message board if anything happens or just give a reminder that I'll update on that day.

I love you.
